so he drops on a knee and proposes. but what made her open her eyes in surprise? frank pans the camera around and you see the flowers and the will you marry me sign. they're weird looking. they're prehistoric looking. and if you've ever been on a beach in the east coast, you may have come across one and not known about it. but coyote pete is going to fill us in. coyote is stomping through the tide pools right here and looking for animals. when he comes across an interesting one. >> it is alive. look at that. look at that. wow. >> what? >> it's like out of aliens. >> what a bizarre looking creature. >> isn't it cool? we used to see these things on the jersey shore. i never knew much about them. but coyote fills us in. they're really cool animals. >> they have no stinger. no fangs.

no teeth. >> but they sure look intimidating, don't they? >> people think that's venomous. it actually is not. >> it's called a horseshoe crab. >> but it's not related to crabs at all. it's more closely related to spiders and scorpions. >> what? >> huh? >> who knew? and those little things on top of that helmet structure? >> those are compound eyes. they have nine eyes. two here and then five and then on the underside, two simple eyes. >> this thing hasn't changed for a couple of years. >> that is me holding a living fossil. the ancestors of the horseshoe crab have been on the planet for 150 million years. this is the atlantic horseshoe crab. it has not changed in over 230 million years.
