>> (screaming). >> oh, my god. >> reporter: the video is only about five seconds long. it's first view it's not easy to make out exactly what happened. after repeated viewings it can be hard to watch. the back story july 12, 9 p.m. in a parking area adjacent to ridley high school there was an altercation between ridley students and students from a rival district at 1 pint 17-year-old driver of the suv runs into several ridley students. that's the video. one of the students a 15-year-old is run over. remarkably that 15-year-old was treated and released with only bruises and abrasions. kevin bateman knows a relative of the 15-year-old and talked about the video. >> the one i saw was real hazy. you can see it. i mean, we were just shocked and then when we saw him pop up it was kind of like we were amazed and then like i said the fight i think -- that's nothing normal -- or not out of the ordinary. >> reporter: this is a traditional rivalry. >> pretty much. >> reporter: kids here.

>> for 50 years. >> reporter: police say the 17-year-old driver turned himself in. he's been charged as a juvenile. the 15-year-old is fine and was practicing with his sports team. >> he went to practice the next day and the he was worried that he was in trouble. i don't know how you worry about that getting run over but he's a good boy. >> reporter: well, again that 15-year-old not seriously injured. when we spoke with him briefly today he was preparing to go to his lacrosse practice this evening. the 17-year-old driver turned himself in the next day. he is facing various assault related charges as a juvenile. live in ridley township, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> thank you john. president trump's son-in-law jared kushner appeared on capitol hill today as part of that ongoing russia investigation. kushner spent more than two and a half hours meeting with the senate intelligence committee about the trump campaign's contacts with russian nationals. and tomorrow kushner will have a similar conversation with house lawmakers. we'll have more on what kushner had to say and its

impact on the russia investigation coming up at 5:30. in texas, 10 people are dead in a case of human smuggling busted yesterday. officials say people were found in a tractor-trailer in a wal-mart parking lot in san antonio. the driver of the truck, 60-year-old james bradley, appeared in court today. he said he did not know what was in the trailer. officials said the conditions in that trailer were disturbing to say the least. >> these people were in that trailer without any signs of any type of water so you're looking at a a lot of heat stroke, a lot of dehydration. >> reporter: one person on board told investigators the people inside took turns breathing from a hole punched in the trailer's wall to provide ventilation. bradley, the driver, could face life in prison or even the death penalty. >> a new jersey family is recovering tonight after they found themselves just feet from a towering water spout during yesterday's storms. roxanne yates of franklinville was in a canoe with her

daughter and boyfriend near downtown ship yesterday when the water spout suddenly came right towards them. using the emergency button on her phone she called for help. >> the ping in her cell phone was able to give us a gps coordinate and sent us a map where they were the last time they called. >> rescuers were able to spot them because 93 put a lifeguard jacket on top of a paddle. no one in the canoe fortunately was seriously hurt. >> yesterday's storms packed quite a punch inland. parts of the delaware valley still cleaning up after the system swept through. looking live right now today was a quieter day weather-wise but we are still tracking the potential for another spotty storm tonight. meteorologist cecily tynan at the big board with the call from accuweather. cecily. >> hi, monica. double scan live showing that there is a broken line of some strong thunderstorms rolling in from the west. this is all ahead of a cold

front and some of that has been severe, actually there was a tornado warning for the wilkes-barre scranton area that just expired at 5 o'clock. a lot of that will be pushing up to the north, will be clipping the lehigh valley but the whole system is moving east at about 20 miles per hour. so, future tracker showing this is likely will be rolling right into the philadelphia area crossing into south jersey around 9 o'clock tonight and it's one of those situations not everyone will get the storms but those who did expect some isolated severe winds, some brief but heavy rain and then behind this system, temperatures really fall. today the heat index about 90 degrees. that's how it feels right now. if you look north and west, though, a dramatic drop. the heat index dropping into the 60's. i'll talk about the cooler weather on the way and how long it lasts coming up in the full accuweather forecast. back to you. >> all right, cecily, thank you. well, here's a question. who is ready for some football? the eagles are back in south philadelphia and carson wentz and crew hit the practice field today for the

first time this season. >> sports director ducis rodgers live outside the novacare complex where eagles are gearing up for the preseason just three weeks away. ducis. >> reporter: 17 days to be exact, monica, but who's counting. yes, we are. what a difference a year makes. a year ago at this time carson wentz was a bright eyed rookie out of north dakota. this year at this time he is firmly cemented as the franchise quarterback. now, during the off seats son season the front office got wentz some help. nick foles was brought in as the backup quarterback. back in 2013 in his first stint with the birds, foles tossed 27 touchdowns against just two interceptions. because he's been there before, foles will be a guy wentz can lean on throughout this season. >> basically i can relate to what it's like being a starting quarterback in this city which is so unique and that was one of the things that intrigued me about coming back here is that it's such an

[cheers and applause] >> reporter: former assistant d.a. kelley hodge became philadelphia's 25th district attorney. chosen by the court of common pleas board of judges. there were 14 candidates trying to get the nod to succeed seth williams who is now in federal custody waiting sentencing after pleading guilty to corruption last month. hodge's husband son and parents were beaming with pride when she was sworn in a packed city hall courtroom many of the d.a.'s office. >> for the time i have to lead this office i will promote and encourage the honor integrity and professionalism that is expected and that exists in each of you. >> reporter: kelley hodge made her own history today. she's the town's first black female d.a. today her former colleagues came out in big numbers to hail her elevation even though it is only temporary. she'll be serving out the

flooding rains rick and monica, but they're still not going too great here on the schuylkill expressway, new crash just popped up in the eastbound lanes by girard avenue, the zoo would be right over there. the left lane's out of commission. state police just pulled up on the scene. and this minivan looks pretty badly banged up. if you're coming eastbound coming in toward the city, towards the phils game i would use the river drive not the eastbound side of the schuylkill. in chester county watching a serious wreck along 252. that's darby paoli road close to sugartown road. some speeds like 13 miles per hour on the westbound side of the 30 bypass even though that crash near 282 is long gone. getting reports of a wreck now on the westbound side of the pennsylvania turnpike past downingtown but speeds there don't look too bad. at least not yet. out in west norriton a vehicle doesn't want to run along trooper road near norris hall road near the greek orthodox church. a lane is out of commission there. 422 westbound just 9 miles per hour is because of this crash approaching oaks taking out the left lane. ambulance on the scene.

>> members of linkin park have broken their silence following the suicide of chester bennington. he was found dead in his l.a. area home last thursday. in a statement released today the band said in part "while we don't know what path our future may take we know that each of our lives was made better by you. we love you and miss you so much ." the statement online also includes a link to suicide prevention support tools. >> ♪ now to a consumer alert about a popular summer fruit papayas. the fda is urging folks not to eat the carbena brand of papayas. they have been linked to a salmonella outbreak. at least 47 people have gotten sick in 12 states and one

person has died. that brand of papaya comes from mexico and they have a red, green and yellow sticker on them. officials are investigating if other brands are also linked to the outbreak. >> health check tonight. there is promising news in the fight against aids. a south african girl born hiv positive has now been virus free for more than eight years and without medication. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman with more on this incredible story. ali. >> researchers have been testing whether giving aggressive treatment early on can keep the virus at bay long term, even after the medication is stopped. this is the third time that it's worked for a child. the girl started hiv medication when she was just two months old and stayed on it for 40 weeks. she's now nine years old and there has been no sign of active virus in her blood for more than eight years after stopping medication. researchers hope to figure out how the child stayed in remission so they can develop

barclays and hsbc workers who will soon be laid off. sallie mae requested more than $2 million to hire close to 300 of the 600 employees let go by the two financial service companies. the taxpayer grant would be used by sallie mae to offset the salaries of the new employees. state counsel on development finance will vote on the request on august 28th. the world war ii epic "dunkirk" tap heard the top spot at the box office this weekend. plenty of awards helped push the buzz to the moviegoers to see the christopher nolan film. >> time for a check of that accuweather forecast. >> meteorologist cecily tynan here with the details. welcome back. >> nice to be back. tracking more storms. >> oh, boy. >> that's been the scene lately. >> where did you go on vacation. >> go on vacation and then the heat comes back. head over to the weather center and show that you double scan live is showing a pretty strong line of storms approaching from the west.

and what this is, it's a k it's the dividing line between air masses. right now the heat wave is over but we still have a warm and muggy air mass over us. once that cold front moves through, what that does, it brings cooler less humid air on the way and you will feel the difference in the air mass right away. basically temperatures will be holding into the 80's until that front moves through around 9 o'clock and then dropping into the 70's and early tomorrow morning temperatures into the 60's and much lower humidity. so, it will pay off but first we have to get through the storms. and this is the first cell that's moving in and this will be hitting the lehigh valley. this has 50 miles an hour winds, also the threat of some hail. it's moving to the southeast about 25 miles per hour so lynn port new tripoli signs corner schnecksville and fogelsville all in the path of this storm. that could cause some damage with the potential for gusty

winds. the chance for severe storms looks like the best chance will be philadelphia areas south and areas to the west. we're looking at the possibility of some isolated storms, severe storms. not everyone will get the damaging winds but we'll all feel the change in the air mass. so, future tracker timing out the storms, around 7 o'clock hitting the lehigh valley, some storms generally west of philadelphia. looks like it moves through philadelphia into south jersey around 9 o'clock and should be rolling off the coast shortly after midnight. by 1 o'clock, the storms are over. they're quick hitting storms. tomorrow morning you wake up lots of clouds but by the afternoon sunshine is back and it's going to feel pretty nice. temperatures running about 6 degrees below normal. philadelphia 81 degrees tomorrow, millville, wilmington the same. the boardwalk in atlantic city only 78 and northwest suburbs temperatures only in the upper 70's with lower humidity. the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow starting off with fog, clouds in the morning, sunshine by the afternoon. it will be cooler with less humid air, 81 degrees.

obamacare and that will put medicaid on a sustainable path for the first time since the program was launched. >> senator toomey says insurance premiums are up almost 130 percent in pennsylvania just since 2013. >> for their part democrats turned their attention to the economy today. unveiling a platform that included plans to address rising prescription costs and stagnant wages. new york senator chuck schumer led the event and massachusetts senator elizabeth warren also took part. among the proposals new standards for big businesses before they complete larger mergers. it called for a crackdown on pharmaceutical companies that raise prices excessively. they're hoping to put forth a cohesive message ahead of the 2018 midterm elections. sad day for a british couple who decided to give up their legal fight to keep their 11 month old son alive. these parents have been battling to bring little charlie gard to the united states for treatment.

today they revealed that his most recent mri scan shows that nothing more can be done. >> we are truly devastated as charlie devoted and loving parents we have decided that it's no longer in charlie's best interests to pursue treatment and we will let our son go and be with the angels. >> charlie suffers from a rare mitochondrial can disease for which there is no cure and causes muscle weakness and irreversible brain damage. he will now be moved into care where he'll be allowed to die naturally. >> a squirrel believed to have bitten at least five people, one victim says it happened while he was feeding the animal but another family says the squirrel bit their daughter in an unprovoked attack. the health department is urging anyone who was bitten in the last two weeks to be checked for rabies. there are also fliers posted at park entrances there so everyone is aware of the

situation. residents fiersteiny phoenix arizona dealing with catastrophic flooding after what is being described as a monsoon. this drone video captured the scope of the flooding in the town of apache junction. officials say the town was hit and especially hard when one storm system moved in from the east while another was moving in from the west. in another part of the state, 17 hikers had to be rescued when they became stranded by flooding. good news for folks in a illinois town that was hit hard by flooding, the fox river in algonquin is receding. residents have been dealing with this for two weeks. last night the river crested at a record 13 feet. well, today those levels are coming down but the sand bags remain to try and save homes all around the river. >> time for another check of our "action news" traffic report monday night. >> let's take it live to matt pelman again in the "action news" traffic center to see what's going on. hey, matt. >> hey, matt. >> trying to get through this monday evening but it's a tough one on the schuylkill expressway, mick and monica, but unfortunately not a lot

has changed in the last half hour. still have this crash in the eastbound lanes by girard avenue, by the zoo taking out the left lane. making it a zoo as you try and come eastbound on 76. speeds like 11 miles per hour with in left lane being blocked because of the crash. if you can get to the river drives, that's going to be the way to go as you head in towards center city maybe in towards the phils game tonight. had a crash on the roosevelt boulevard southbound at whitaker but sounds like that's in the process of hearing. our disabled vehicle in west norriton along trooper road has also cleared out of the way but trooper is still busy as people avoid 422 westbound. that crash approaching oaks is off to the side now so ever so slowly we're starting to pick up that very slow pace on 422 westbound. watching a situation as well here in chester county its a crash along 252 near sugartown road. sounds like a serious one so emergency crews are on the scene there. and you don't want to be anywhere near the garden state parkway northbound in egg harbor township this afternoon. nasty crash in the northbound lanes approaching route 30

pomona has those northbound lanes blocked. it's jammed coming away from the a.c. expressway. stay over on route nine, not the parkway if you're near the shore this afternoon. closer to the coast there's a wreck along brigantine boulevard on the ac brigantine connector. rick and monica, back over to you. >> all right, matt thank you again. a large portion of an apartment building in the city's parkside section had to be evacuated late last night after a fire broke out on the fourth floor. the blaze started at about 11:30 p.m. here on the 1600 block of north 52nd street. firefighters traced the blaze to a mechanical room. luckily no one was hurt. the red cross is helping residents whose apartments were affected by the smoke. in parkside an armed robbery at a family dollar store caught on camera. happened back on july 16th at the store on the 5600 block of lancaster avenue. police say the male suspect pretended to make a purchase. that's when he pulled out a gun. the man got away with more than a hundred dollars and several cartons of cigarettes. the worker was not hurt. anyone with information is

camp got going at 8:50. first few days for quarterbacks rookies and selected veterans. all eyes on doug pederson and carson wentz on day one. those two will be forever tied at the hip. both entering their second season with the birds. fans are looking for both to get better in year two. coach pederson says he's already deal ticketed a change in his franchise qb. >> as he comes into this camp he's refreshed, he's rejuvenated eager ready to go. he's got the best thing i think that -- that he and i going into year two is that he played 16 games last year and that's the exciting thing about it. he's a year -- a year experienced now in this league. >> he's the leader of the football team. there's no doubt about it in our eyes. he's not going to have carry the team but he's going to be the focal point of the offensive in particular. as an offense i think we're really excited to see how he's developed over these past five weeks. >> speaking of zach ertz, we
