breaking news to tell you about, a child is dead and 6 others hurt in a fast-moving fire in camden overnight. an "action news" viewer sent a picture of the fire after it broke out on the 1200 block of morton street. when firefighters got to the scene they found flames coming from both floors of the home. witnesses say some children were being tossed to neighbors to escape the fire. however, one child did not get out alive. although the fire is under investigation, officials do not believe it was intentionally set. >> i would say no, you won't normally have a suspicious fire when you have occupied

structures like this with that many people being at home. they do have working smoke detecters, we did hear them. they are still active. >> four children and two adults were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. a neighboring home was damaged in the fire. it's a stormy saturday morning, we're tracking an accuweather alert for the start of the weekend. as we look at the center city skyline vee -- via, sky6 live hd it's been raining all night long, the jersey shore is taking a beating. looking live at cape may, new jersey. there are roads in the area that are closed because of the flooding. bob brooks is monitoring the conditions along the jersey shore, but we begin with meteorologist chris sowers who has the latest on this storm, chris, how long will it stick around? >> reporter: the good news it will not stick around too much longer, actually. the tail end is pushing through the jersey shore counties, atlantic, cape may and

burlington counties, as we speak. flash flood warnings have been issued until 8:15 a.m. southern cape may county. we've seen pockets of rain up to 4 inches. the villas the western side of cape may county picked up close to 4. reeds beach close to 4, 3 1/2 inches of rain. we have flood advisory shaded in green, burlington county, southern portions of ocean all the way down to cape may point. in particular it's the smaller creeks and streams we start to see fill up here, they will get close to their banks, minor flooding is possible. storm tracker 6 live shows heaviest rain hugging the coastline and rapidly pushing over to the east. in an hour it will be off the coast. we're seeing drier air work through western portions of south jersey. the lehigh valley has not seen any rain at all.

allentown has not reported a single drop of rain from the system. most locations north of the pennsylvania turnpike, missed out with the storm as it tracked farther to the south. therefore the southern area picked up a good walloping with this. everything starts to improve, 7:00 a.m., it starts to rapidly improve. 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., it looks nice, nice in terms of the rain shutting off. we'll have cloudy skies, comfortable with low humidity levels and temperatures in the 70s. this is the day planner. this is not bad for the end of july. 72 degrees by 11:00 a.m. lots of clouds, but no rain in the city at that point. maybe a leftover shower, 1:00 p.m., 73. 4:00 p.m., probably peeks of sunshine, 74. low humidity levels, we're anticipating a nice comfortable high today of 75. speaking of comfortable, tomorrow looks really, really nice. high temperatures struggling to

picture, that speaks for itself, what the tremendous rain has down in wildwood. that's the intersection of hudson avenue and west rio grande avenue. you can see it's flooded at this point. there's a road block there. you will see several road blocks throughout wildwood, streets have been shut down, floodwaters from the rain have gotten pretty deep. i can tell you i've seen time and time again cars driving through the intersection. really i have been the victim from trying to adulthood this, - trying to do this, that jeep is taking its time getting through. my advice if you live at the shore or one of the areas facing the heavy rain you get your vehicle moved to higher ground, also please protect your property, sandbag it and do whatever you can to prevent water from getting into your

the suburban shopping plaza in newark. the victim a night manager at the restaurant had just left work and walking to his car. the suspect shot the employee during the robbery attempt. the victim is in christiana hospital and listed in stable condition. a new chief is running the west wing following president trump's shakeup at the white house. the president used twitter to announce the changes. he announced that reince priebus was out and homeland security secretary john kelly was in as new chief of staff. reince priebus leaves office after the vulgar tirade against him by scaramucci. reince priebus said he supports the president's decision. >> the president has a right to change directions and hit a reset button. i think it's a good time to hit the reset button. i think he was right to hit the

reset button, it was something that the white house needs. >> reince priebus said he offered to resign once it became clear the president wanted a change. announcing secretary kelly as the new chief of staff, he called the general quote a star. this morning there are concerns about north korea's latest missile launch it was the second missile test this month. analysts say it has the capability of reaching the u.s. mainland. secretary rex tillerson and japan's foreign minister will work together to stymie nor korea's nuclear ambition including a new u.n. resolution with sanctions. sanctions against russia north korea and iran, the bill

will prevent president from rolling back sanctions without congressional approval. russia retaliated closing american embassies and reducing diplomat staff. today the state is continuing its two day gun buy-back program at three sites around the state. residents can turn in three guns no questions asked. those who sell their gun can get up to $200 per weapon on the spot. yesterday officials collected 400 guns in the first two and a half hours. >> every single one is meted down and destroyed. it's taken out of circulation and not coming back. >> it was left by my father-in-law after he passed away i don't want to see it wind up in the wrong hands.

at paable.gov. the storms have dealt a blow to western pennsylvania, this is video of washington county where roads looked like streams after heavy rain fell in the area. several homes had flooding in their basement. emergency crews received several calls from people trapped by the rising waters. of course, meteorologist chris sowers tracking the rain we're getting, and the folks down the shore are getting hammered by the rain.

>> reporter: in particular, it's the southern shore areas, cape may county we're expecting flooding shortly. we have flood watches up for the shorepoints. philadelphia and west did not see much from the system. the official numbers at the philadelphia airport is .3 of an inch. other locations south and east picked up 4 to 5 inches of rain. it's a fine cut off line it depends on where you are how much rain yiewrch seen in the last few -- you've seen in the last few hours. the camera is shaking there. it's a coastal storm coming up from the delmarva. once it hits the coast it will intensify, we'll see gusts up to 35 miles per hour. the cost system will wrap up and pull out to sea. as it does so it will drive cooler and drier air in the

delaware and lehigh valleys. high temperatures today, high 70s and tomorrow, low 80s. sunday looks beautiful, the pick of the week. sunday looks really, really nice. next week overall is dry, there's a chance of a thunderstorms isolated in nature, thursday and friday, but most of the week should be dry. another heat wave potentially is on the way. that could start as early as us tuesday. the good news we're not talking about mid 90-degree temperatures we're talking about 90 or 91. with an increase in humidity, not the oppressive stuff like last week. this is cape may, county, stone harbor, cape may, the villas, in particular we're seeing street flooding there. smaller creeks and streams about to overflow their banks. minor floodinged and he coulded in the viewing area. we have a flood advisory for the entire shore surf city to cape may. storm tracker 6 live that's all that's left over from the coastal system, heavy rain

battering the shorepoints and barrier islands from surf city to cape may. that's the tail end, mays landing egg harbor, galloway township nice and dry to the west, maybe leftover showers or spritz or sprinkle that's about it. if you look farther to the west, a pocket of moisture across southwestern p-a that will dive off to the southeast. that will pin wheel around the trough of cooler air and miss us to the south. whatever rain we see in the next couple of hours, it will be brief and pull away. by afternoon we're looking at a combination of sun and clouds. delaware and new jersey are the hardest hit areas where the storm. last week they got pounded with the torrential rain. we have road flooding being reported here. rainfall totals 2 to 4 inches.

6:21 a.m., saturday morning, 69 degrees out there, mobile 6 in atlantic city along arctic avenue where some flooding had been reported in the back bay areas of atlantic city. you can see the rain is coming down, looks like there may be ponding on the roadways. we saw bob brooks down the shore in wildwood where there is heavy flooding. if you're down the shore prepare yourself for the rain event. meteorologist chris sowers is tracking thissal morning long, he will let you know how long it will stick around and when the sun returns. so glad you stayed with us we have an important recall to tell you about this morning affecting ford vehicles, the company said it is recalling 117,000 cars because bolts in

>> reporter: all right, welcome back everyone, 6:25 a.m., saturday morning, heavy rain is beginning to wind down. a flood advisory is in effect for the jersey shore, for extreme southern ocean county down to cape may. it's the smaller creeks and streams we're concerned about. storm tracker 6 live you can see the drying for cumberland county and western atlantic county. the movement is rapidly off to the east at 30, 35 miles per hour that's pretty much all that's left here, but the rainfall totals have been very, very impressive. these estimated rainfall totals you get the idea some locations have seen a tremendous tremendous amount of rain. let's go down to the villas, 4.4. north of the ocean city, or south of ocean city around strathmere, 4.5. this bulls eye right here, let's make a quick zoom i believe

that's the egg harbor area, around the atlantic city airport, near pomona, this area has picked up 7.3 inches of rain north of pomona, 4.9. we had a bulls eye there, we're seeing flooding this is mainly for low-lying areas creeks and streams, maybe road flooding, as well. a lot of this is starting to recede now that the rain has stopped. major rivers will be okay. >> thank you for the update. sports now, phillies make a couple of trades, eric hellerson is heading to baltimore. hers jeff skeverski. >> reporter: phillies wheeling and dealing trading howie kendrick to the washington nationals and finalizing a deal

we're tracking soaking rain moving across the delaware and lehigh valleys. many will be wondering bhl the sun return -- when will the sun return? we've live team coverage. a crash causes a massive leak of diesel fuel overnight. those stories in a moment, chris sowers is tracking rain, how much longer does it stick around? >> reporter: not much longer, let me tell you what a fun drive into work this morning. lots of heavy rain, it was coming down so heavily across south jersey where i came in from, it was hard to see the road. all the ponding on the road, the car was going everywhere, obviously i had both hands on the steering wheel, but it didn't matter it was a mess getting in. sky6 live hd temple university camera. we're dealing with spotty

patches of drizzle in and around the northwestern suburbs, that's about it. the. it's the jersey shore that continues to see the heaviest rain. flash flood warning from sea isle to cape may point. this is in effect until 8:15 a.m. this area picked up two to three inches with isolated heavier amounts before. that is the back edge. it's extreme eastern portions of atlantic and cape may county that are dealing with the heavy rain. most of south jersey is dry, route 40 from elmer to mays landing is all right. into the medford lakes area. one lone shower push into northeast philadelphia. that's pulling away, a couple of spritzes and sprinkles north of the pennsylvania turnpike. what's happening we have two crairls of low -- two areas of w pressure. the good news this low did not catch up this surface low. if it caught up, it would have

from a storm, a gas station there was a leak in it, when it was pouring, the leak was huge now, it's just a drizzle at this point. a good indicator that the rain is starting to let up here. i do want to show you what it did cause that was severe flooding down here at wildwood, you see the trucks, a jeep plowing through if you have a car you're trying trying to go h the flooded streets, i've been in a vehicle that stalled before, it can damage the engine and it can be expensive. that's the intersection of hudson and rio grande avenue. many streets in wildwood look like this right now. if you have a vehicle in the area on a flooded street. get it moved to a higher area, please, please, protect your property. sandbag it, do whatever you can, at this point it's might be too late, always the storm has come in and the roads are flooded there. you can see the ripples coming

tractor-trailer ruptured on woodhaven road at 3:00 a.m. 09 gallons of diesel fuel spilled on the roadway and nearby soar drain. no word on what caused the taks to rupture. police arrested a man in south jersey for a violent purse snatching. take a look at the video. police posted this surveillance video on their facebook page. watch as the suspect, walks by the 78-year-old woman on learner court. this happened july 21. he turned around and pulled out a knife and held it to that elderly woman's neck. he then, as you saw grabbed the purse and runs off. he was arrested yesterday. he faces a number of charges. >> this truck hit an overpass so hard in south jersey it damaged a railroad track on the bridge above. here's what that means, service on the new jersey transit line will be out while repairs are made this weekend. a witness tells "action news"

the truck driver didn't realize his boom was raised when he hit the river road overpass in pennsauken yesterday. nj transit said it damaged the rail line. atlantic city rail line will be suspended between philadelphia and cherry hill through the weekend while the repairs are made. there's a mystery surrounding historic bones during a construction project in old city. 12 sets have gone missing. 70 full sets of human skeletons were excavated last winter when crews buildings an apartment building stumbled upon them. the site was a burial ground from 1707. experts put them in storage for examination, now they say 12 are missing. there was a call from top law officials in nearly 20 states in washington, d.c. to protect members of the military who are transgendered. this comes in the wake of president donald trump

announcement this week they would ban transgendered people from serving in the armed services. attorney general in 18 states have sent a letter to congress asking for legislation to be passed to prohibit such legislation. president trump announced via twitter on thursday he would ban transgendered people in the military. president trump comments during a speech on gangs is raising eye brows. the president suggested to an audience of law enforce. it was okay to be rough with the suspects. >> you just see them thrown in, rougher, please don't go away be too nice, like when you guys put somebody in the car and you're protecting their head, the way you put your hand over -- like don't hit their head and they just killed somebody, i said you can take the hand away, okay.

area, 4.8. we'll go farther to the west, vineland, 3.4. millville, 3.8. cumberland, 3.2. salem county, the bridgeton area, 2.7. greenwich, 2.1. cohancy 1.2. ton of rain has fallen in a short period of time. because of that we're dealing with a flood warning for cape may county even flood advisory for all areas highlighted in green. in particular we are worried about the smaller creeks and streams. all the rain is producing runoff, all the creeks and streams will fill up here, if you live in the flood prone area pay attention to the surrounding. major rivers looks like they will stay in the clear, with this system. rainfall totals, lehigh valley you ever not seen much of anything at all. maybe a few spritzes or

>> roads are turned into rivers after our stormy weather dumped several inches of rain across the area. the hardest hit the jersey shore where a number of roads are closed off because of high water. the big story on "action news" is a stormy saturday morning that's causing problems across parts of the area. sky6 live hd is taking live look outside at the ben franklin bridge and you can see the rain drops on the camera there. drenching soaking rains fell overnight. now, we're taking live look down the jersey shore, it may look a little bit better down there, but we're dealing with flooding in south jersey. this morning we have team coverage of the stormy saturday, bob brooks is monitoring the high water along the jersey shore. but we begin with meteorologist chris sowers who has the latest on the storm system, bring us up to date. i'm happy to report most of the heavy rain is gone and off the coast. all the heavy rain that fell overnight, the smaller creeks and streams are beginning to fill up.
