11 days after he was introduced and four days since his profane laced interview with the new yorker magazine, scaramucci offered his resignation to newly sworn in white house chief of staff john kelly who accepted. that was the official line. sources are saying that kelly told president trump today scaramucci had to go. kelly is now the gatekeeper in the west wing, the new chief of staff having been sworn in this morning and many expect the white house to be a much tighter ship under his supervision. time will tell. world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the latest shakeup inside the white house. that is next at 6:30 right after "action news". >> ♪ more subpoenaes have been issued in the ongoing investigation into possible misuse of health insurance plans in several jersey shore communities. the atlantic county prosecutor's office set out a grand jury subpoena to clerks

in atlantic city, margate and ventnor on friday. they're requesting the birth dates home addresses and insurance information of all police, fire and city employees in those municipalities. the three communities were put on notice last month that they are under federal investigation. there is now a reward in the offing in the wake of saturday's sidewalk shooting death in the haverford township portion of ardmore. live john rawlins with an update tonight. john. >> reporter: well, jim, investigators are waiting on the results of a ballistic test to see if the shooter who was involved here in haverford township was also involved in an earlier nonfatal shooting in philadelphia. in the meantime posters like this one going up in haverford township a part of a full court effort here to try to identify and locate the man who was wearing a red hoodie on saturday evening. >> we need the public's help on this. >> reporter: authorities released an enhanced image of

the suspect plus a new image that shows the man they are seeking without a hood over his head. there is also now a reward. >> the delaware county district attorney's officers in conjunction with the haverford township police are offering a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the shooter of john le. >> reporter: john le was at this pizza shop picking up an order his plan to walk a short distance to a friend's haverford apartment but along the way he crossed paths with that man in red who had a gun. >> some sort of confrontation, was it a robbery? we don't know that yet. >> his phone is missing. >> his phone is missing, yes and when we look at the video, it appears that a cell phone is in the shooter's hand as he's running away. >> reporter: less than an hour before the deadly encounter someone matching the description of the shooter had been confronted by neighbors in the overbrook section of philadelphia for acting in a suspicious manner. questioned by the neighbors the man responded with gunfire. >> i heard about 15 shots at least. >> reporter: remarkably no one was injured in that earlier incident. john le's family says the

we continue to follow developments from bensalem where police have located the mother of a seven month old child left at a hotel this weekend. authorities found 34-year-old erica avila lopez at einstein medical center in philadelphia. officials say she was undergoing a medical procedure but they haven't given any details. police say her baby was discovered alone in a motel room just after 12:00 noon yesterday. surveillance video shows lopez leaving that hotel at 4 o'clock saturday afternoon. cleaning crews discovered the baby along with crack, heroin and drug paraphernalia. the baby was evaluated, now in protective custody. lopez faces charges including endangering the welfare of a child. a stray bullet hit a 17-year-old girl sitting in the living room of a home in feltonville late last night. the shooting happened at midnight along b street. an off duty officer told police he saw six men standing

outside just before the shooting. they exchanged words. and then some of the men went into a home, came out with guns and started firing. the victim was that rushed to saint christopher's hospital but has since been released. fire damaged three homes in the north wood section of philadelphia late this morning. firefighters were called to the 5300 block of horrocks street just before 11:00. crews arrived to find smoke coming from a two-story building. you can see the extensive damage caused by the flames. they spread to two more homes. fortunately nobody was hurt in all of this and investigators have not said yet what sparked the blaze. is one of the country's most notorious drug dense soon to disappear? within 30 days, the area in philadelphia's so-called bad lands called the tracks will be completely bulldozed, cleaned up and fenced off. reported on this open air drug den in april and has these new developments today. >> reporter: this area has been dubbed ground zero for philadelphia's heroin epidemic. where users live and sometimes die. many call it home. they shoot up in areas like the lounge. hundreds of thousands of used needles litter the ground. >> you see a mirror over here where they cut their drugs. >> reporter: "action news" brought viewers on a tour of the tracks in april. now three months later the city and conrail launched a comprehensive plan to rebuild the area and build up the community. >> everyone standing with us will be working tirelessly to reduce the supply and the demand of the illegal narcotics in this neighborhood. >> reporter: the first steps began today as seen here from drone6 and will continue seven days a week for about a month. conrail will pay for the cleanup aimed at shutting down philadelphia's largest open air drug den. >> we're not just going clean up and leave. we're here for the long term. the cost is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands of

dollars. the city of philadelphia will help with the cleanup at a cost of about $90,000 for security, waste removal and building secure fences. >> the whole key is to be able to get them to stop going down there where they get hit down into the track area where we can't find them. >> reporter: the efforts come on the heals of a dea report that found fatal did you go overdoses skyrocketed 37 percent in 2016. a journey not just to curb the sale illegal narcotics but also focused on getting help for the addicts by supplying recovery and housing resources for those in need. >> people under the bridge they need our help. they're fighting a disease and an ailness. they're somebody's child, family member. >> reporter: conrail says they've tried multiple times to clean up this area as recently as 2013 and 2015 but they say within weeks the drug dealers and addict return. the go now is to give this community hope and a long term solution. in kensington, wendy saltzman channel6 "action news."

>> a judge has found man guilty in the murder of a bensalem teenager three decades ago. today 56-year-old george shaw was convicted of third degree murder in the death of barbara rowan. rowan was just 14 when she was killed in 1984. shaw faces a maximum 27 years behind bars. the sentencing date hasn't been set yet. the body of a swimmer who got swept away in the ocean off point pleasant beach ocean county has been recovered. 24-year-old susanna oravcova of slovakia disappeared while swimming with a friend at 2:30 sunday morning. two off duty lifeguards found the body at 11:45 last night along ocean beach two in toms river. there was a dangerous rip current warning along the jersey shore this weekend. new jersey governor chris christie's trip to a public beach during the government shutdown drew international attention. now a proposed law aims to stop it from happening again.

the democrat led assembly passed a measure that would force the governor's beach house to close during a shutdown. a second measure would keep state parks opened. those bills still need to be debated in the state senate. a measure to pay state workers furloughed during the budget dispute also passed today. governor christie has said that he will sign that bill. delaware's senior senator tom carper is seeking a fourth term. carper announced his run for reelection in a campaign fundraiser e-mail during a cable news interview carper said that he was considering retirement before last year's presidential election but when president trump's victory carper says he still has work to do and is more motivated than ever to serve. a beloved member of the "action news" family was honored today for her longstanding commitment to the community. lisa thomas-laury was celebrated during a luncheon today at the green valley country club in lafayette

in a total of six separate incidents. crafts men were placing the glass on the door after it was hit with bullets last night at the landmark kingswood community center. the center was not the target a motorist sitting at the stop sign last night on about we are street was hit in the arm with a stray bullet. this community center an all purpose agency that has served this area for more than 70 years. >> it is frustrating because today we have to clean up the mess, we have to replace the glass, limit our services to the community. we're here to serve the community so it's frustrating. >> we were doing very well for awhile. things were trending down. we're in it for the long run and then obviously when you have a weekend like this it's disappointing but you got stay to the plan look at what you're doing, you follow up on it, prevent retaliatory shootings. >> reporter: many of the townspeople continue to be horrified by the violence that shows no sign of stopping. >> these younger people that are doing it that have no value whatsoever for life and

no fear. >> reporter: tonight wilmington still relatively new police chief robert tracy says they're close now to making an arrest in at least one of these shooting cases. at police headquarters in wilmington, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> dozens of kids from philadelphia, delaware and montgomery counties are learning all about law enforcement. this is the camper's first full day at troop k camp cadet. the kids range in age from 11 to 14. they spent the morning learning about crime scenes. pennsylvania state police showed them how to dust for fingerprints and when the young people graduate friday, they'll be certified in cpr and they will have gained new tools that will carry them throughout life. >> ♪ [ indistinct chatter ]

down the shore, this week, you have picked a great week. because we have heat wave number six on the way. temperatures climbing back into the 90's. it's going to get more humid and then a cold front will bring us the risk of some storms late in the week and to start the week. right now it's warm out there. not all that humid. philadelphia 88. allentown 87. cape may currently 81. wilmington 85 and trenton 86 degrees. so, satellite and action radar showing that we do have mostly sunny skies. there's been one little downpour that's snakes over the poconos. it is really beginning to -- there you go fizzle out right now but generally we have quiet conditions here. however, down across florida it's very different. we have got a tropical system. it became tropical storm emily earlier today. moved on shore in florida and some areas up to 8-inches of rain. now, tropical depression emily will be picked up by a trough and what this means it will be heading out to sea.

so it's no immediate threat to us but as we head into the middle of the week and towards the weekend this could cause some rough surf and some rip tides as well so you do want to be careful. tonight mostly clear a pleasant night 65 degrees in the suburbs, 70 degrees for center city and this is the theme this week. building heat and humidity. temperatures climbing up into the low 90's and then as we head towards the weekend a cold front will bring us cooler air. also the possibility of some showers and thunderstorms. so down the shore tomorrow enjoy it. slightly humid. lots of sunshine. you will be getting a little bit of a sea breeze. not quite as warm as inland and atlantic city 85. beach haven surf city 84, ocean city 85. that ocean temperature pretty comfortable 75 degrees. rehoboth and bethany beach 86 degrees. lots of sunshine. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, it gets hot tomorrow. 91 degrees. o slightly humid but dewpoints generally in the upper 50's so not all that bad. wednesday mostly sunny, hot

and humid with a high of 92 degrees. thursday again 92 degrees. it will be humid, three days in a row, officially makes this a heat wave. we could hold onto temperatures in the 90's one more day on friday. 91 degrees and then there's a cold front moving in. at this point looks like the best chance of showers and thunderstorms will be saturday morning and then as we head into the afternoon some sunshine. temperatures begin to drop. 84 degrees and sunday second gorgeous sunday in a row. you liked yesterday? you'll like next sunday. low humidity, comfortably cool, 82 degrees and monday sun mixing with clouds for a high of 83 degrees. so, the bad news is if you don't like it hot another heat wave is on the way. the good news is four days and temperatures in the low 90's not that bad. >> it's summer time. >> yeah, heading into august supposed to be hot. >> yeah. all right. coral coral directors have taken over.
