intensifies. as police say this is the man they are looking for in connection to a killing in delaware county and a shooting in philadelphia. investigators stress he is armed and dangerous. >> it is tuesday afternoon, i'm sharrie williams. >> and i'm rick williams, in for brian taff. the big story on "action news" is the rapidly evolving search for derek rollins wanted for saturday's violence. sara bloomquist is live at southeast detectives with the breaking developments. >> that is right, police, u.s. marshals and the fbi now using every available resource to track down darren rollins, they believe he is here in the city but has can'ts elsewhere in the state and given what he is accused he is likely armed and extremely dangerous. this is darrenral ins. he is believed to be the suspect

captured in this photo. in the murder of john lee in haverford township. >> this guy is a dangerous individual and we are not sure what he is capable. we need him off the street. >> police say that he fired multiple shots at neighbors that followed him to 73rd and sherwood after spotting him peeking into a window. when they asked rollins what he was up to he pulled a guchb. >> he fired shots into the passenger door. rollins driving his gray volvo followed the victim into haverford. and then he showed up at a pizza shop and john lee was shot at a nearby apartment complex. police believe that the deadly shooting was random possibly a robbery attempt gone wrong and a tip call led police to rollin's volvo in the 5100 block of

locust. >> we will not stop until we have this individual. we have law enforcement looking for him and we think he is a danger, we don't know what he will do. >> as well as the 40 hundred block of north a street. the s.w.a.t. team did go into an address on locust and he was not there. ballistic testing show that the bullets were the same guns used in haverford township. police believe that rollins still armed with that weapon. i'm sara bloomquist, channel 6 "action news." >> sara, thank you. the former mayor of reading appeared before a federal judge this afternoon to face corruption charges. vaughn spencer pleaded not guilty to allegations he sold the power of his office in exchange for campaign contributions, his lawyer says they are ready to fight the

charges and spencer remains free until his charges. the mayor of allentown pled not guilty to similar charges last week. and the owner of a day care admitted her role in a baby's death. sharon ballic plead guilty. makayla died at her first day of the day care. and her business violated regulations by placing her facedown at her nap time. she was left unsupervised and was found unresponsive. the state shut down the day care and shut down the license. and developments in a jersey shore town. the army corps brought in pumps to start drainage but homeowners cannot access their beaches. it's dubbed lake margate.

john rawlins live with the latest. >> reporter: a number of moving parts. the pumping situation hit a snag and at this point they will work into the night to try to get the water out of these basins, and there is a question the mayor here in nature gait. he is questioning about the quality of the water pumped out of these basins and into the ocean, he has preliminary notices there is contamination, and we are waiting for final results on the water quality reports but it looks like at one point that water will end up in the atlanticic ocean. >> it was not suppose to look like this. they were suppose to work as short time buffers and rain runoff was to drain away in 24 to 36 hours into the sand but days after the storms stagnant ponds persist and frustrated long-term residents know dig deep enough at the beach you hit

water. >> any elementary school kid would have known that the area was saturated sand it could not absorb anymore. it was impossible. >> as a remedial fix pumps were brought in to move the water to newly constructed dunes but plan b is to pump the basin water directly into the ocean. some beach walkways were closed people made it to margate shore but only a fraction of a normal summer crowd. >> ten times more. a lot of people. >> the beach dune project is controversial. it has angered residents and now talk of going to court to stop the current work. says the mayor. >> we are having a special meeting tomorrow at that point whether to hire an attorney to apply for a temporary restraining order. >> at this point, i am positive that will pass. >> reporter: margate and its residents have twice before tried to stop this overall dune

standards. they say they should reduce the levels because of harmful smog. 7800 pennsylvanians suffer an early death because of high levels of smog. that is the second highest number in the entire country after only the state of california. >> the epa has no response to the lawsuit. it's called philadelphia's most notorious stretch of squalor and finally being cleaned up. work got underway to clean up a drug den in kensington. it's frequented drug addicts that left behind trash and close to a half million used syringes. conrail and the city teamed up to move the debris and fences will be installed to keep the intruders from returning. time now for the "action

place to check out in the winter season. in philadelphia on the brink of that for reading and allentown and trenton, 88 in wilmington and cooler but still very nice at the shore today. temperatures there in the low to mid-80s with the ocean temperature nearing 80 degrees. as we look at the next eight hours as we go through this evening, upper 80s through 6:00 and then it slides a bit and we don't get into the upper 70s through 8:00 tonight through the midnight hour and temperatures slowly drop into the mid to low 70s for the rest of the overnight. dew points that measure how it feels outside. 60 degrees is technically not all that humid in philadelphia and slightly humid for trenton and allentown and 67 for lancaster and dover and close to that in wilmington and more humid in delaware and southwest of the city in philadelphia. satellite and radar a few thunderstorms popping up in the poconos and downpours but the biggest concentration continues

to be along the appalachians in west virginia and into kentucky. it's a good thing because we need a break from some of that rain coming off the month of july. and the first day of august we look back at last month, atlantic city came in with 10 inks of rain in july alone. 8.5 inches for reading and 8 inches for allentown and philadelphia over 5 inches of rain during the month of july. quiet here for tonight. warm and muggy. and 68 in the lehigh valley. and 74 philadelphia and 70 degrees for cape may. tomorrow it's pretty easy. more of the same the hazy sunshine a tad bit humid and temperatures climbing into the 80s as we get into the late morning hours and touching 90 degrees by the middle part of the afternoon and like today a pop-up up toward the poconos and the lehigh valley. i want to show you tropical depression emily not getting its act together. the national weather center expected this to turn back into a tropical storm but that

court this afternoon but did not say why. sean dalton told "action news" he would release new details about the case tomorrow morning. 47-year-old michelle long was founded in her pool on june 17th and an autopsy revealed she died of blunt force trauma. a case of animal cruelty is under investigation after someone shared video of the incident on snap chat. showing young men forcing a baby alligator to drink alcohol and then putting a cigarette in its mouth. they are trying to find out who they are and where at abuse took place. >> those things done would be considered violations under pennsylvania law. people think they are bullet proof and don't go to the eventual end results and we get a lot of cases on social media of people doing heinous things, whether it be to an animal or

person. and the shock value is going down and down. >> once authorities locate the alligator, the spca may seize it from its owner. one of the main routes into the city of wilmington was blocked after a bridge got stuck if the up position. "action news" was on the scene as officials kept drivers from passing over the south walnut treat draw bridge at noon time. the main corridor using route 13 north. it took del/dot officials roughly an hour to get it to lower. and runners and walkers and cyclists have to find a new way to access the schuylkill river trail. they closed the crosses gates this morning. and csx is replacing rail ties in the area and the overhead bridge near the crossing is still open for people to access the trail. another hot day if you spend time outside find a cool spot

and drink water. meteorologist, adam joseph, is here now with more on what is a very humid day compared to yesterday. >> coming up a bit. temperatures of 90 this afternoon and more of it to come the rest of the week. if you like august it's here on the calendar and here when you step out. right now we look at the temperatures, 90 degrees still at 5:00, by 6:00, 88 degrees and finally to 80 degrees but takes until 10:00 tonight to lower the temperatures just a little bit. as we take a live look now at sky 6 hd from the temple university camera, haze in the atmosphere and lots of sunshine and just a few high clouds at times as well as a cumulous cloud here or there. and overall a clean picture. temperature in philadelphia 90 degrees and summer like across the eastern half of the country and nothing too up bearable we don't have a core of heat and dallas matching the temperature for new orleans.

a man hiding in a closet was taken down by police in arkansas accused of breaking in while two teenagers were home alone. >> he was in my house. i just walked in the bedroom. >> is your sister home? >> yes but she is autistic. i don't think she knows what is happening. >> that is the voice of a 14-year-old boy worried about his safety and the safety of his 17-year-old sister who is diagnosed with auto tim. police arrive and this video is captured by their body cameras with guns drawn while they look for the home intruder -- >> 22-year-old quenton barlow

was arrested and deputies say he had stolen prescription drugs from the home, and the teens who were home alone were not hurt. travellers are getting a friendly reminder before heading out the door for summer vacation. they are warning people traveling by train to watch for heavy luggage showing people falling down and hurting themselves, with large luggage at an escalator. they are asking them to bring the baggage on the elevator instead. nobody was seriously hurt in the travel tumbles. the nfl is apparently reversing field on a major medical issue using marijuana for pain management. they offered to work with the player as association to study medical marijuana for acute and chronic conditions. right now all marijuana use is banned by the league and in

april commissioner roger goodell says that he sees no medical benefits in its use. over at the big board, with the big talkers beginning with the controversial custody decision, an oregon couple says this their two young sons were taken away because they scored too low on an iq test. they lost custody of their first child four years ago after he was born. this after a friend contacted child services about concerns about neglect and their second son also taken into state custody as a newborn never even making it out of the hospital. according to court documents officials fear that the couple cannot create a safe environment because they have iqs of near 70. >> we don't think that iqs

should have anything to do with it. as long as you the qualities to support your child and care for your child. >> the couple says they fulfilled the state's request to take parenting, cpr and nutrition classes but are not reunited with their boys yet and the agency overseeing their case say they cannot comment on the case. but intelligence is not the only factor for removing a child from a home. a woman says that the powder of this can safe here, a device used to conceal valuables is just a plastic lining, but authorities in honduras say it's cocaine. >> she was looking to buy a rental property and used the can safe that looks and feels like a can of iced tea to store her jewelry away from her hotel

should 90 degrees for the the next three days. hot and humid typical for the first week of august. as we look at stormtracker 6 live double scan we are dealing with some downpours and thunderstorms popping up closer towards the poconos and a few now starting to drag themselves down into the northwestern part of the lehigh valley and north and west of allentown and on the corner of northern berks county and they flair up and rain themselves out and don't last that long and slowly drifting and staying in the region. overnight tonight, for most of us warm and humid and partly cloudy and 74 degrees. 68 in allentown 71 in wilmington and 66 in northern parts of ocean county. more of the same today. hazy sunshine and a tad humid, there could be an isolated downpour north and west in the afternoon. and most areas look to stay dry and the temperatures running at 90 degree orz or so.
