deputy. one of the suspects died. i'm rick williams in for brian taff and the big story is the ongoing investigation surrounding the deadly crash. trish hartman is live at the intersection of main and hamilton streets right now with the details. >> reporter: rick, the district attorney's office is investigating this deadly crash, authorities say that one person is dead and several others were hospitalized after one of the vehicles involved fled from police. traffic is moving once again behind me as you can see and this intersection was closed for most of date while detectives worked to see what happens. >> tracy angelo was working at fredo's pizza. and saw the crash. >> i saw the suv and car hint lock and hit and spin out of control.

>> police were called for the report of suspicious activity. when the light colored sedan sped away and ran a red light at hamilton street. both ended up on the lawn of charles moles. and ran up to the black suburban. >> i got to them and saw the bulletproof vest. >> and i said are you a cop? >> and he said a sheriff. >> he was on his way to work in his personal vehicle. surveillance video shows debris flies on to the lawn. and one person being taken by police and later a person taken away on a stretcher. and four people in the sedan were taken to the hospital. and a gray safe was removed from the car and wrapped up to be taken into evidence. >> people watched while the

police worked. >> seeing the reconstruction and the glass and hood across the lawn it's really sad. >> now, authorities have not yet released the victim's name and the sheriff's deputy was treated and released from the hospital. it's too early in the investigation to determine if charges will be filed and police were not chasing the sedan at the time of the crash. channel 6 "action news." we are following breaking news from massachusetts where a 20-year-old woman was sentenced in the last hour for encouraging her boyfriend to commit suicide. michelle carter was convicted in june of involuntarily manslaughter. her boyfriend, conrad roy died from carbon monoxide poisoning in 2014 and found dead in his truck. it was later reveal that carter sent him a string of text messages to do and including one to get back into the truck. the judge gave carter a two and

a half year sentence and may only have to serve 15 months however. we'll have more on the story coming up in the next half hour. the philadelphia day care owner accused of sexually assaulting two children at his business is out on bail. duncan round was arrested a week after the allegations were reported. and he owns sprouts day care on 9th street in south philadelphia. the victims are a boy and girl both age 5. round is a british citizen and has an address in medford, new jersey. a former police officer accused of killing his friend get a new trial. that james stewart is entitled to a new trial because there were errors during jury instruction. for the death of david compton. he said he didn't know the gun was loaded and never would have hurt his friend. now the court says that the

panel should have been told not to consider the charges together. he was already sentenced to 30 years in prison without patrol. philadelphia mayor, jim kenney has endorsed a candidate in the city's district attorney's race. larry krasner is the democratic nominee and the mayor called him a reasonable and fair arbitrator of justice. they share the same goal of knocking down bullies. one person was injured in a house fire early this morning in philadelphia. the action cam was on the 200 block of south 60th street. as firefighter responds at 5:00 a.m. the fire marshall was called in to investigate the cause. the action cam was in wilmington after a dramatic rescue here. strong currents left a man stranded near a big rock in the brandywine river. the crew was coming back from

stay in the city or the poconos -- we'll have much more in the full accuweather forecast. in just a little bit. >> he has fans. >> all right keel see you in a bit. late this afternoon a judge ordered all work on margate's controversial dune project to stop at least for now. he sided with the town granting the request for a one week injunction, at issue is the flooding that the dunes are allegedly creating when it rains, leaving large areas of standing water that block beach access. the judge wants state officials and the town to work together to come up with drainage solutions, margate's mayor is happy with today's decision. turning now to coverage of the eagles training camp as we inch closer to the preseason games. >> today was another one with full pads and full contact.

new at 4:00 today pennsylvania lawmakers are looking to change the rules of the road when it comes to cell phone use behind the wheel. the new bill would require hands free technology for adults and be stricter on young drivers. vernon odom is live now in havertown. how are drivers reacting to this news. >> reporter: the random reaction we gathered today is any firm

surveillance pictures show the suspect in the store earlier this week clearly holding the large military style long gun. fayetteville investigators say she demanded the employee to hand over the cell phones and then the suspect took off and has not been seen since. dramatic video shows a speed boat engulfed in flames in los angeles. at first a nearby lifeguard boat was not equipped to fight the fire and when the firefighters arrived the boat was a total loss. officials say they don't believe anyone was on board when it caught fire and no one was hurt. time now for a check of the accuweather forecast. meteorologist, cecily tynan standing by. >> reporter: hi guys we have pop-up thunderstorms developing not nearly as active as this time last night. last night we had a piece of energy moving through now just basically a pop-up air mass thunderstorms. they are dropping a lot of rain. this cluster is near langhorne

moving north and east. and a little lightning. one lightning strike. and they are unleashing a lot of rain and another cell we are tracking moving out of kent and sussex county delaware. they issued a flash flood warning for kent county until after 8:00 tonight. they received close to 3 inches of rain and part of the reason why, if you look at this it's not moving much. moving northeast at 6 miles per hour. so it's just kind of sitting there. and flash flooding turn around don't drown. and we have the cell moving towards south jersey. as far as temperatures warm and humid and not a heat wave. monday 89 and tuesday 91 and yesterday 89 and normal high 87. and three days in a row to make it a heat wave. we are close but not there. philadelphia 87 and cape may 86

>> and the first ever travel advisory for a u.s. state. why it's dangerous for black people to go to missouri. we begin to the end of a sad saga in massachusetts. late today a young woman was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in connection to her boyfriend's suicide. beside the fact she was more than 30 minutes away from him at the time of his death. sara bloomquist is here to explain the story. >> this is a dramatic end to a court case that drew national attention. michelle carter faced 20 years behind bar and she was sentenced to two and a half years and may spend half of that. michelle carter learned her fate for a crime no unwas convicted of before. relatives of conrad roy iii say they are haunted by the 18-year-old's suicide by carbon

accused of stealing baby formula from area targets thanks to your tips. they issued the warrant for the arrest of this man. that he stole formula from bensalem and upper township. that his crimes are to fuel a drug habit and not to feed a child. philadelphia police have released more information about the off duty officer accused of damaging several cars while allegedly drunk. authorities identified the officer as nicholas harper, they say he drove his car into several parked vehicles along the 1600 block of north sixth street early yesterday morning. when taken into custody. officer harper's blood alcohol content was .198. >> five military cargo planes

over kent county delaware moving into the mouth of the delaware bay and producing a lot of rain up to 3 inches of rain has fallen and we are getting the flash flooding. flash flood warning is posted until 8:15 for parts of kent county and sussex county delaware and that system continues to push toward south jersey. part of the reason why we get some much rain the dew points are high and the atmosphere is loaded with moisture. 68 degrees in philadelphia. we keep those dew points tomorrow and the humts take a break in time for the weekend. how about that is for timing dew points dropping back into the the low 50s and comfortable before they move back into the 70s on monday. we could see a few showers early on saturday. i'll talk more about that.

youngsters laced up their shoes and took the track. this is the camden district unified special olympics more than 300 students from the various programs teamed up for all sorts of track and field events and plenty of school spirit and fun to be had this is one event where everyone was a winner today. a 9-year-old boy from florida is making a difference on a six week road trip that involves the deliver riff a whole lot of donuts. tyler of bratt florida is going across the country to bring doughnuts to police officers, and today it brought him to buena vista in galloway township. they were eating a year ago in a local store and saw four police officers. >> he said mom cops favorite drink was coffee and favorite food was donuts.

between route 30 villanova and the schuylkill expressway traffic is only squeezing by on the far right side of the roadway, north of broomall you hit the wall of traffic through this point approaching the schuylkill on the blue route northbound you may want to think about coming up 320 or 252 instead. accident on 95 over the state line is pushed to the side and speeds in the 20s spilling on to 495 northbound. it was blocking a couple of lanes for quite a while. and we started with a crash on 95 southbound in fishtown by girard and you see the residual delays along cotman avenue down toward center city. 95 in bucks county issues for you but it's construction here on the northbound side headed towards scutter falls bridge and only one of two lanes is open. and that is why you see speeds in the 20s. and yardley road at newtown
