injured in any of the fires. bob brooks is gathering more information on this story and he'll have a live report at 5 o'clock. >> a charred shell is all that is left of a pool company in quakertown bucks county. a car crashed into the building overnight killing the driver and igniting a massive fire. "action news"'s gray hall covering the story for us. he joins us live and gray you spoke to the property owner who arrived on scene just moments after the crash. >> reporter: well, sharrie, the property owner describes this scene as devastating and painful. just take a look behind me. you'll see this huge hole that's left behind. tonight there's no clear reason as to why that driver lost control. >> there were over a hundred firefighters here and total chaos. >> reporter: the property owners and the owner of pool pro store along route 309 in

springfield township surveyed the damage. about 1:45 this morning police say a car somehow lost control and slammed into the pool store burst into flames and started two alarm fire. the driver of that car did not survive. minutes after the fire gail who owns the property arrived to the scene. >> they were just getting the flames out. there was a little bit of flames. you couldn't see the car. the car went straight in. >> reporter: one fatality is too many but everyone admits this fire could have been much worse. there are nearby businesses and at least six apartments are attached to the pool store. >> this accident caused so little noise that nobody living here woke up that was asleep. he went in and the car burst into flames. somebody was awake and he saw it out -- the flames out his window window and got everybody out. >> reporter: pool pro's owner says while it's heartbreaking to see a business he's owned for 18

years go up in flames, he's more thankful for the lives that were saved. >> who cares. you know, you know, it's a loss but somebody died and nobody else died. this could be rebuilt and we love what we do, so we'll rebuild it again. >> reporter: all right, back out live a frightening and very dangerous situation here in bucks county. again, tonight police have not identified the person who died in this incident. they're also trying to figure out what made the driver lose control. that's latest from here in springfield township, gray hall channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> many questions still could be answered gray. thank you. the search is on for four suspects who carried out an armed robbery at the avis car rental at philadelphia international airport. police say they punched a gate guard in the face and then stole at least four cars. one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. now, all of this happened around 4:00 in the morning.

investigators are asking anyone with any information to come forward. the guard is expected to make a full recovery. >> a man and a teenager are accused of killing a woman in winslow township. 20-year-old tyler dralle from vineland and a 17-year-old are facing murder charges. they broke into a home on the 700 block of vardemor avenue and shot deanna scordo. dralle is being held without bail much the 17-year-old is at a juvenile facility in delaware. first responders in atlantic city have identified the body that washed ashore last night. it's that of 31-year-old jeffrey wilkins from illinois. he had been missing since going into the ocean around 8 o'clock tuesday evening. multiple agencies were searching for him over the past few days t a passerby spotted the body in the surf near the old revel casino. >> cleanup is under way today after torrential rains caused

some flash floods in several south jersey communities. parts of route 130 in burlington city were under water last night. the area was so swamped it forced police to shut down roads but for some drivers it was too late. they ended up trapped. today greenlanders park was still under water and remains closed. it was actually designed to take in flood waters but it wasn't enough to completely spare the nearby homes. plumbers have already been called in to access the damage. >> the rain just started and then it just kept coming down more and more intensely. >> i never seen it in this area like this. i've done excavations in this area a lot, we're always in here doing excavations and i've never seen that. >> the assessments continue of that damage as at one point during the flooding rescue boats were used to save four cars that were under water. >> all right, time now for a check of the accuweather forecast for your friday afternoon. >> all right. meteorologist melissa magee is outside for us today.

i can see the sunshine behind you. she's in for adam. hi, mels -- melissa. >> temperatures are in the upper 80's. it's 88 degrees in philadelphia, 88 trenton, glitch reading and lancaster same thing in allentown. down the coast in cape may coming in at 81 degrees. up in the poconos at 75 so we've been dry for the majority of the day. when you look at the dewpoint numbers and how hot it feels in some spots it feels like the lower 90's for reading and lancaster 94 dover and 91 degrees in millville. storm track sick live double scan radar 3-d showing you we're tracking a lot of activity right now well off to our north and west. you can see those showers and storms firing up as close as pottsville but the rest of the moisture to our north and west but that will creep eastward as we go throughout the rest of tonight and during the overnight hours. if you're heading out to the north and west in bethlehem as musikfest is getting going tonight, santana will take the stage at 8:30.

>> time now for the "action news" traffic report this friday. >> matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center its a busy afternoon, hm. >> yeah, already watching serious accidents on this friday rick and sharrie. looks like they're getting ready to tow away the last seek involved in this crash. this is route seven limestone road at brackenville road by the limestone veterinary hospital. this was a really nasty accident in fact, one person was ejected from one of the vehicles involved. you can seal it looks like they had to take off the roof of this car to get the other people out. two people transported to christiana regional hospital via medical chopper. two people with serious injuries and you can see all the stand they put down on the roadway as well because of a fuel spill. they're putting the finishing touches on the crash but for now no creek road and mendenhall million road would be alternates around limestone road and brackenville road. coming out of delaware on 95 northbound crash this afternoon here in delco.

these are the northbound lanes near 452. this also looks like a serious one. couple of the vehicles off in the grassy median here and the two left lanes are blocked at this point. so you just have one lane coming into pennsylvania out of delaware which is giving us quite the delay. farther north we're seeing single digit speeds headed towards the girard point bridge. there was a crash there as well and that would be busy any way with people heading to the shore. we're also watching a crash on the trenton makes bridge as you come into pennsylvania and more construction this afternoon along 95 northbound in bucks county head toward the scudder falls bridge. let's grab the ipad do the commuter report on this finally friday afternoon. watch out, major crash reported along south second street there in maurice river township cumberland county. as you can see a lot of backlog associated with it. we'll check it again in the next half hourly. >> still on "action news" at 4:00 a jury hands down its decision in the trial against

>> ♪ >> former pharmaceutical ceo martin shkreli talked to reporters after being convicted on federal charges that he deceived investors. a brooklyn jury deliberated five days before finding shkreli guilty today of three of eight counts. he hiked up the price of a life saving drug and insisted

he did nothing wrong. the judge continued shkreli's $5 million bail allowing him to stay out of prison for now. no sentencing date was set. two university employees are still on the run wanted for a murder in chicago. police say they stabbed a man to death in a luxury highrise made a donation in his name at a library in wisconsin and then took off. abc's reporter has the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: u.s. marshals on the hunt for the northwestern university professor and the oxford university employee wanted for murder in chicago. >> considered arm and extremely dangerous. >> reporter: that's 42-year-old former northwestern professor latham along with oxford university treasury employee 56-year-old andrew war went both men believed to have stabbed 26-year-old trenton cornell to death in this luxury chicago apartment. officers arriving on the scene thursday night after a 911

call reporting a crime on the tenth floor. >> stabbed no doubt about it. this place is very safe most of the time. i been here 14 years. >> reporter: police believe latham a professor at northwestern for 10 years had a relationship with the victim. northwestern officials telling abc news latham has been placed on administrative leave and is banned from entering their campuses. >> i had him give a talk to some students about his research and he just seemed like a perfectly normal guy. >> reporter: oxford university offering to assist in any way with the ongoing investigation. ariel reshef channel6 "action news." >> a concerned neighbor led police to a mom and two sons who were held hostage for two years in virginia. police say 43-year-old kariem moore kept his girlfriend plus the eight and 11-year-olds locked inside. windows and doors at the home were all covered. according to court documents, well, they say moore used force intimidation and deception to keep them held

hostage. the woman was hospitalized with an injury from an alleged assault. investigators say the two boys appear healthy and are now with other family members. >> for the second time flames engulfed a massive apartment complex in dubai. the fire broke out overnight and sent debris plummeting to the ground. everyone made it out of the 86 story tower safely. firefighters would, for two and a half hours to get the blaze under control. this same apartment building caught on fire in 2015. investigators have not said how this most recent fire started. >> a new development emerges in the russia investigation. special counsel robert mueller impaneled a grand jury in washington, d.c. a few weeks ago. that panel will allow mueller to issue subpoenaes in its russia probe. now, during a rally in west virginia last night president trump called the russia story a "total fabrication." meantime u.s. senators have

now introduced bipartisan bills to protect mueller and to ensure that he will not be fired. later today trump is departing for a 17 day working vacation. >> the trump administration is showing it's serious about cracking down on leaks. this morning the department of justice announced new measures to punish those who release information without permission. attorney general jeff sessions says the leaks compromise national security. >> this nation must end this culture of leaks. we will not allow rogue anonymous sources with security clearances to sell out our country. we feel the pain of those betrayals intensely. i will do everything in my power as director of national intelligence to hold these individuals accountable. >> the trump administration has been battling leakers for months now but the most recent case involves transcripts of the president's private conversations with the leaders

of australia and mexico. they were published in the washington post. >> two japanese automakers bringing jobs to the u.s. mazda and toyota say they will build a manufacturing planter in this country. they've not released details on the exact location. the joint statement says the $1.6 billion facility should be up and running by 2021. when it's all said and done the project will create about 4,000 jobs. mazda will build crossover vehicles at the new plant while toyota will build corollas. president trump is celebrating the news of that factory and the latest monthly jobs report. employers added 209,000 jobs in the month of july. the labor department says those positions put the unemployment rate at 4.3 percent and that matches a 15 year low that was first reached back in may. and here's a look at the day's closing numbers and it was an up day on wall street. all three indices doing pretty

11 o'clock we've got a mostly clear sky and numbers will be in the lower 80's and upper 70's across much of the region. here's satellite6 along with action radar. still dry and quiet across the delaware and lehigh valleys but there's a severe thunderstorm watch box off across western and central sections of pennsylvania state. a cold front will be working its way eastward so a lot of showers and storms starting to move through and as these thunderstorms clash with the heat and humidity, there is a likelihood of finding a stray shower and rumble of thunder north and west of that i-95 corridor so for the rest of tonight, it's partly cloudy, we'll drop down to 68 in allentown, 69 in reading, 72 in philadelphia for the overnight low and the lower 70's for millville, cape may, also into dover. here's future tracker six. we time it out for you. later on this evening, 5:30 a couple spotty showers the bulk of the energy off to the north and west. as we get into the overnight hours, notice the showers lining up from the poconos into allentown reading and

a downed tree causing some problems for motorists in tredyffrin township. this is on old eagle school road. it's blocking the road as you can see there in the middle of your screen and brought down some wires with it as well. >> now, no injuries have been reported so far. this again happening on old eagle school road. it's actually shut down between cress line road on deep del road. not sure if weather may have been a factor in this tree coming down. we'll keep an eye on this and of course update you in our traffic report as well as we get more information as to how traffic is being impacted. this happening in tredyffrin township, chester county on old eagle school road. well, new this afternoon, a philadelphia police officer accused of injuring a man while in custody is off the beat. james yeager has been suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss. that according to philadelphia police. an internal investigation was launched when this video surfaced last month and then went viral. the video shows officers

taking a man into custody in kensington back on july 10th. well, police say officer yeager is then seen slamming the suspect to the pavement. that clip later shows the handcuffed suspect collapsing to the ground. officer yeager has been on the force for four years. >> a fight involving three men in delaware ended with one man stabbed and all three facing charges. wilmington police say it started with a disagreement at a bus stop along the 2700 block of market street. but when one of the trio started to get physical, the victim pulled a knife and cut him and that victim then fled into a store trying to keep the other two outside one of whom had a bat. when police showed up none of the three cooperated. all were arrested and charged with assault. no one was seriously injured. a former nurse in bucks county has pled guilty to secretly recording patients while they were undressed. james close a father of two worked as a licensed practical nurse at penn medicine

dermatology in lower makefield township. police say he filmed 18 videos of eight patients on his personal iphone including several of a 17-year-old girl. close now awaits sentencing. attorney robert mongeluzzi represented the teenaged victim in the case. he says he'll conduct a investigation into the failure of the medical system that allowed this to happen. >> police are still trying to figure out what sent a car into a building in philadelphia's olney section this morning. chopper6 hd was over the scene at tabor road and mascher street. that's where a car slammed into the garage door outside of a business around 6:30. now, the building and the car were pretty banged up. no one was hurt. the man best known for hiking up the price of life saving drugs has been found guilty of federal securities fraud. martin shkreli was accused of funneling money from his companies to investors. abc's ariel reshef has been following the developments from new york. >> reporter: the so-called

pharma bro' martin shkreli found guilty on three of eight charges. shkreli never taking the stand in his own defense but defiantly speaking out after the verdict. >> this was a witch hunt of epic proportions and maybe they found one or two broomsticks but at the end of the day we've been acquitted of the most important charges in this case and i'm delighted to report that. >> reporter: a jury convicting the former pharmaceutical ceo of federal securities fraud and conspiracy for cheating hedge fund investors out of more than $11 million. prosecutors calling it a ponzi scheme. >> we have been gratified throughout the trial at the close attention that the jury paid to the evidence. and we're gratified as we stand here today at the jury's verdict. justice has been served. >> reporter: 34-year-old shkreli once dubbed the most hated man in america after he increased the price of a life saving cancer and hiv drug by 5,000 percent. since his arrest in 2015 on these unrelated charges, shkreli not shying away from

from santander bank. >> ♪ >> a truck sent fire and smoke and flames billowing in front of manhattan's iconic grand central station today. the blaze which broke out on the elevated platform outside grand central terminal was put out in about 15 minutes. no one was hurt. no word, though, on what caused it. >> an ancient farm tool was the weapon of choice for one man in utah. police say he threatened a store clerk with a sycthe. this is surveillance video of the man who announced his intentions of becoming the grim reaper. a clerk was able to lock herself in a room and call for help. the man left but not before damaging a car outside with his sycthe. >> responding officers made their way to his house, they

were able to see him inside the house. they tried to engage him, make contact with him. it was uncooperative. >> negotiators got the man to peacefully surrender. dunkin' brands the parent company of dunkin donuts is thinking about dropping the doughnuts not from its stores but from the second half of its name. a new location in pasadena california will simply be called dunkin' a move the company is calling a test right now. a few other stores will get the one name treatment as well. dunkin' wants customers to think of its stores as a destination for coffee but it will still sell doughnuts. a final decision on whether it will change its name at all stores won't be made until late next year. >> over here at the big board on this friday with big talkers. beginning with a new wedding trend that's illegal in 42 states across the country. only legal in eight. apparently many brides and grooms are now swapping traditional open bars for marijuana bars. it's becoming so popular there

blocking a couple of the left lanes. just one lane squeezing by head towards the commodore barry bridge. it is jammed solid. you might want to stay local on 13 as you come out of delaware in toward marcus hook and eventually chester. mess on 95 northbound. then farther north along 95 right by philadelphia international airport, about 20 minutes ago this car was in flames. luckily fire crews o got on the scene extinguished the fire and volume here headed northbound toward the girard point bridge isn't terrible because everybody is stuck back in delco. it is slow around the walt whitman bridge as people head out for the weekend head down the shore and we're just getting word of a broken down vehicle on the schuylkill expressway eastbound near spring garden street taking out a lane. so, extra heavy as you come eastbound away from the roosevelt boulevard. still have road work along 95 northbound in bucks county taking out a lane so it's slow there headed toward the scudder falls bridge. a crash on the trenton makes bridge westbound side has cleared out and we had a crash on the northeast extension southbound by lansdale. it, too, is gone but still some residual delays as you

eastward as we go throughout the rest of the early evening hours and into tonight. looking at the weather headlines an isolated shower or thunderstorm is likely mainly north and west and during the overnight hours but once that front moves on through turning less humid as we get into our weekend and a weekend winner on the way as well. temperatures right now are in the 80's in most locations. it's 88 in philadelphia, 88 in trenton, to the north and west in allentown, all the way down to reading and lancaster temperatures are holding at 87. down the coast in cape may, 79 and in dover, we are coming in at 84 degrees. the humidity, though, is still a factor. as you look at the dewpoint numbers it's the level of moisture in the air it's relatively humid here in philadelphia. we're down to 62 degrees but 70-degree dewpoints for reading and lancaster, quite oppressive for wilmington dover and also into cape may. that will be changing a as we head into our weekend. here's satellite as we head into our weekend. all of the activity off to the west with that severe thunderstorm watch box popping up across western and central

sections of pennsylvania. this moisture will be working its way eastward as we go throughout the rest of tonight. for the next 12 hours it's partly cloudy with late day shower or storm we'll drop down to 68 in the suburbs and 68 degrees in philadelphia for the overnight low. the setup for us on our saturday, here's what's going on. that front moves on through and it moves off the coast. so some early showers are likely in the morning. then turning less humid by the afternoon, a high temperature in at 84. high pressure over the ohio valley takes over and wipes away all of that humidity so by sunday, mostly sunny, it's beautiful with high temperature coming in at 83. so, good place to be over the weekend. down at the shore. on saturday, a morning shower, otherwise mostly sunny, high temperature in at 83. on sunday, it's sunny and pleasant with a high coming in at 80 degrees and temperatures the ocean temperature will be in the upper 60's -- upper 70's i should same up in the poconos it's breezy and nice tomorrow high at 72, partly sunny on sunday with a high temperature in at 72 degrees.
