apartments with new information from fire investigators. good evening, bob. >> reporter: rick and monica, this is a big, big problem. again, we're talking about the sterling building right here in center city behind me a well known building deemed as a luxury apartment building. we just learned from atf they believe the man doing this might have a vendetta against the management company. it was around midnight today, firemen, fire trucks ems and investigators surround the sterling building in center city. officials say another fire has been set the key word another. officials say this is the seventh blaze set inside the luxury apartment building the first happening july 13th and now several neighbors say they're willing to move and seeking safety. >> let us sign our leases and get to -- let us out of our leases and get to someplace safer. >> we're kind of in a tough spot right now staying here. >> reporter: at a news conference the atf philadelphia fire department

and fire marshal say they believe they're getting close to the arsonist. >> it's an individual that has an ax to grind. we believe it is someone from within that building. >> reporter: residents think they're running out of patience. >> the last two to three weeks it's happened over and over again. >> reporter: as you can imagine residents' worst fear is what if one of these fires spread out of control and they're trapped near the top floor. what's your worst fear. >> i live on the 19th floor and, you know, getting down in time. >> reporter: investigators say so far the fires have been small in nature and don't believe the suspect is trying to burn the building down. but fire commissioner adam thiel says every fire starts off small. >> all fires are dangerous even small fires are dangerous. >> reporter: law enforcement also says extra security measures have been implemented to assure safety. as for a motive. >> i think it's more of an issue that he may have with somebody within the building or even the management company. >> reporter: now, another live look at the sterling building.

this person needs to be caught before something catastrophic happens. if you have information about who the arsonist is, if you reach out to local law enforcement and it leads to an arrest you can get that $10,000 cash reward. for now reporting live in center city, bob brooks, channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you, bob. philadelphia police want your help finding four people who held up an avis car rental at gunpoint. it happened at 4:00 this morning at the company location at philadelphia international airport. now, police say the suspects punched the gate guard in the face and stole at least four cars. one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward. the guard is expected to make a full recovery. >> ♪ >> a man and a teenager are facing murder charges tonight after a woman was killed on a south jersey blueberry farm. according to police 20-year-old tyler dralle and a 17-year-old suspect from new castle county broke into a home on the 700 block of baird moore avenue in the middle of robbing the place the suspect

that the press plays and will give them respect but it is not unlimited. >> leaking the phone calls between our president and other heads of state is nothing short of a national disgrace. >> reporter: and it's not just the white house condemning those leaks. even a senior obama administration official calling the leaks of those phone records absurd. in new york, erielle reshef channel6 "action news." >> philadelphia police are still trying to figure out who shot a woman while she was waiting for the bus in the city's logan section. police say two men were shooting at each other at broad and west olney avenue when a woman was caught in the crossfire about 3 o'clock this morning. the woman was hit in the wrist and walked a half block to einstein hospital for treatment. police say there are a number of cameras and they'll be going through them. cleanup continues today after torrential rains flooded streets across south jersey last night. parts of route 130 in burlington city swamped traffic several vehicles. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes with more on the aftermath and what is next for these communities.

>> reporter: heavy rains flooded parts of this burlington neighborhood. take a look. many areas of this park are under water and homes were not spared. a lot of residents are now looking at thousands of dollars worth of water damage. for residents along route 130 in burlington city last night's torrential rains seemed like it would never end. >> the rain just started and then it just kept coming down more and more intensely and the winds started and it was the lightning and the house was shaking. >> i wasn't expecting that that fast that much but it came. >> reporter: thursday night the downpours quickly swamped a used car lot and flooding forced police to shut down roads. this morning under sunny skies residents got a better look at the damage. >> it was just crazy, the amount of damage and the flooding that occurred. >> reporter: officials say greenlanders park was that designed to take in those flood waters and with picnic tables and benches partially under water, it seems to have done its job but it wasn't

>> something has been in the water along 95 northbound this afternoon. just had our fourth crash of the afternoon. luckily this one cleared out pretty quickly. it was here in the northbound lanes by tasker as you head towards columbus boulevard. gone now as is the vehicle fire on the northbound side by philadelphia international airport. all the activity with that is off to the side so all the lanes are opened. but we also had that big crash on 95 in delco northbound by 452. that, too, is cleared out but still some lingering delays coming north of marsh road and those delays spill back onto 495 northbound in delaware as well. meanwhile, out here in tredyffrin township still have this downed tree near the goddard school blocking old eagle school road. wayne avenue would be an alternate around that. there's emergency construction in maple shade this afternoon along 73 both ways at high street so big delays there headed northbound and coming southbound off of 90 away from the betsy ross bridge. and of course, it's musikfest. we're seeing all the local closures in and around bethlehem. some slow speeds there as well and expect extra traffic along 78 and 22 for the next 10

>> for the second time flames engulf the massive apartment complex in dubai. the fire broke out overnight and sent debris plummeting to the ground. everyone made it out of the 86 story tower safely. firefighters work for two and a half hours to get things under control. the same apartment building caught fire back in 2015. investigators have not said how this most recent blaze started. venezuela ruling party has installed a new assembly despite worldwide criticism. the power shift opens the door to a dictatorship. supporters of the so-called super assembly promised the

move will pacify the country. one of the foreign ministers was elected head of the new assembly she's a loyal follower of the current venezuela president and has promised to take action against his opponents. the assembly will meet again tomorrow. >> the nationwide manhunt continues for a northwestern university professor and an oxford employee wanted for allegedly stabbing a chicago man to death. this is video of 42-year-old professor wyndam latham who has been banned from campus. police were called to his chicago apartment july 27th. inside they found 26-year-old trenton cornell who had been stabbed to death. >> this place is very safe most of the time. >> i been here 14 years. >> and it's pleased latham and the victim were in a relationship. police say latham along with his accomplice andrew warren drove to wisconsin where they made a $1,000 donation to a library in the victim's name before the victim's body was found. >> all right, health check tonight.

it's summertime. that means plenty of hot and humid days and while parents may think they're doing what's best for their baby, a common mistake with strollers could put their little ones in danger. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman with a health alert tonight. >> it's a common summertime sight plenty of parents enjoying the day outside with their kids. >> walked around in the park and play on the swings and stuff like that. >> one-year-old henry loves being outside. he also likes our camera. but when the sun beats down, temperatures soaring, his mother rachel takes extra precaution. >> i just careful about what time we go out and where we're going and try to stay in the shade. >> she also limits his time in the stroller and makes sure he always gets circulating air. pediatrician dr. kristen kaharchek says that's key.

while it may be a good thing to block out the sun completely covering the stroller can be worse. we tested how quickly the inside of a stroller can heat up. in just about five minutes with it covered the temperature went from about 94 degrees to now 104 degrees. >> it can happen pretty quickly and pretty quietly so you do have to pay attention in extreme heat. >> kids under four are more susceptible to heat related problems. they absorb more heat and their bodies don't cool off as well as adults. the doctor reminds parents to be smart about playing outside. go out at cooler times, seek shade and take breaks. >> so, for the older kids, you know, call them in. they're not going to want to stop playing but say you know what, it's time to take a little break. >> also make sure they're drinking and wearing loose light clothing. if you notice fatigue pale and clammy skin move inside somewhere cool. if skin becomes hot and dry call 911.

organization. their command post now resides on the sidewalk in front of the building on fifth avenue. in a statement to abc news the secret service says it continues to work with gsa to obtain permanent work space in an appropriate location. and despite relocating to the sidewalk, they say there's been no impact to the security plan. martin shkreli the eccentric former pharmaceutical ceo notorious for a price gouging scandal has been convicted on unrelated federal charges. a brooklyn jury deliberated five days before finding him guilty of securities fraud. shkreli was upbeat after the decision saying he was 38ed to report that he had been acquitted of what he killed a the -- had been acquitted of what he called the more important charges. world news tonight will have more including the latest on the russia investigation. >> the remains of two soldiers killed in afghanistan arrived at dover air force today.

army specialist christopher harris of jackson springs north carolina and sergeant jonathan hunter of columbus indiana were both killed in action wednesday. they died when an ied detonated near their convoy in kandahar afghanistan. both had been stationed at fort bragg north carolina. a philadelphia police officer accused of injuring a man while in custody is off the beat. officer james yeager has been suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss. according to philadelphia police an internal investigation was launched when this video surfaced last month and went viral. the video shows officers taking a man in custody in kensington july 10th. police say officer yeager then slammed the suspect to the pavement. the clip later shows the handcuffed suspect collapsing to the ground. officer yeager has been on the force four years. one wrong turn sent a car straight into a pool store in bucks county. the impact killed the driver and sparked a two alarm fire creating a dangerous situation because of the swimming pool

"action news" reporter gray hall with that story from springfield township. >> the car went in the building and the gas tank ignited i guess and just wiped everything right out. >> reporter: david woods has owned pool pro for about 18 years. a car lost control and slammed into his store. in a matter of hours the building was a total loss. the impact caused a two alarm fire and his business was destroyed. >> i really want to thank the responders who came out. a hundred people and the red cross and all these people jump out of bed at 2 o'clock in the morning and came here to help a stranger its amazing. >> reporter: the driver of the car did not survive and it's not clear what caused the person to lose control. the business is located along route 309 in springfield township bucks county. >> 309 does have its chaotic moments. it is very busy. but this is a huge shock. >> there were over a hundred firefighters here and it was total chaos. >> reporter: in the midst of

this tragedy there was a hero. several apartments are connected to the pool shop and one of the tenants happened to be up and saw the flames. >> this -- this accident caused so little noise that nobody living here woke up that was asleep. he went in and the car burst into flames. somebody was awake and he saw it out the -- the flames out his window went around and banged on all the apartment doors and got everybody out. >> reporter: firefighters say things could have been much worse and more lives could have been lost. the store's own are plans -- owner plans to rebuilder at for pool pro, the company says it plants to continue to operate. they'll set up shop in a temporary location. reporting in springfield township, gray hall channel6 "action news." >> a serious crash in hockessin delaware sent two people to the hospital and closed the seconds of a busy road for about an hour today. chopper6 was over the scene at

the intersection of limestone road and brackenville road just after 3:15. when police and paramedics arrived they found three vehicles with extensive damage. one driver was thrown from their car, another trapped behind the wheel of his vehicle. they were taken away with serious injuries. the third driver was treated at the scene. a deadly crash in berks county claimed the life of a driver early this morning. authorities say 30-year-old mary nl east. ckenjer died when she and a another driver collided head on. the other driver was rushed to the hospital. still not clear what led up to the crash. detectives say neither driver was wearing a seat belt. >> from our new jersey news room tonight, first responders in atlantic city have that identified the body that that washed ashore last evening. it's that of 31-year-old jeffrey wilkins from illinois. he had been missing since going into the ocean around 8 o'clock tuesday night. multiple agencies were searching for him over the past few days. a passerby spotted the body in

the surf near the old revel casino. >> a fight involving three men in delaware ended with one man stabbed and all three facing charges. wilmington police say it started with a disagreement at a bus stop here in the 2700 block of market street but when one of the trio started to get physical, another victim pulled a knife and cut him. that victim then fled into the store trying to keep the other two outside. one of the other two had a bat. well, when police showed up none of the three cooperated. they were all arrested and charged with assault. nobody was seriously hurt. a former nurse in bucks county has pleaded guilty to secretly recording his patients while they were undressed. james close worked as a licensed practical nurse at penn medicine dermatology in lower makefield township. police said he filmed 18 videos of eight different patients on his personal iphone including several of a 17-year-old girl. attorney robert mongeluzzi represents the teenaged victim in the case.

>> a network of pipes outside a rolls-royce assembly flanders indianapolis literally collapsed. fortunately nobody was hurt. these massive pipes funnel air into the building to test jet engines. they simulate air flows at an altitude of 20,000 feet. one of the pipes may have collapsed first causing the others to come down as well. investigators in kansas city are trying to determine what was inside a package that that sickened 10 people in an i.r.s. facility. the package had a scent of ammonia. people were complaining of vomiting and sweating. two had to go to the local hospital. that package was isolated, the building did not have to be evacuated. federal authorities have now taken over that investigation.

but the big story on "action news" tonight is a big puzzle for philadelphia police. they're trying to answer the question who is setting fires in a residential highrise. the building is the sterling apartments at 1815 j.f.k. boulevard. the building has been the scene of six fires in the last two weeks. the most recent one, overnight. "action news" reporter bob brooks is live outside the building tonight. bob, what do we know about the arsonist and what's been going on there? >> reporter: well, jim, this is no doubt a major major problem here. plain and simple whoever is doing this needs to be caught accused of igniting six fires again at the sterling building just behind me. and atf tells us they believe it's a person who has access to the inside of the building. it's not the first or second but around midnight this has become the seventh call for a fire at the sterling building.
