we do say good morning on this tuesday. we start with the president on attack firing off more than a dozen tweets in less than a day as he marks 200 days in office with those dismal new poll numbers. >> the latest figures show the president's approval rating dipped to 38%, an all-time low in cnn polling. the president is also spending his working vacation taking direct aim at a sitting senator. erielle reshef has the latest from washington. erielle, the president keeping busy on vacation. >> reporter: i would say so, kendis and diane. good morning. so, the president not giving much credence to those polling numbers, instead focusing on his fervent supporters and turning his sights on a democratic senator. the president spending more than two weeks away from the white house after a turbulent first six months in office. the most recent cnn polling putting donald trump's approval rating at just 38%. his favorability among republicans, 59%. >> it needs to go up. they are telling him just enact

your program. >> reporter: still the commander in chief isn't putting too much stock in the findings tweeting the trump base is far bigger and stronger than ever before despite phony fake news polling. pointing to rallies in ohio, pennsylvania and iowa as evidence of solid support unleashing a tirade targeting richard blumenthal. the president reviving an old embarrassment for the lawmaker who once apologized for insinuating he served in the vietnam war. interesting to watch senator richard blumenthal of connecticut talking about hoax, russian inclusion when he was a phony vietnam con artist trump tweeted. the president incensed after blumenthal criticized the justice department's war on would-be leakers. >> i'm very concerned that the department of justice is weaponizing these laws for its personal and political ends. >> reporter: in that interview blumenthal also embracing robert mueller's investigation into

possible collusion with the russians and the senator not backing down. >> i won't be distracted by these bullying tweets. if anything, they strengthen my resolve. >> reporter: and some interesting polling numbers or rather numbers on the president's twitter i should say. the cnn poll found the majority of people don't believe that twitter is the most effective way for the president to be communicating his views. 72% saying it sends the wrong message to leaders around the world and one other quick twitter number, only 10% of those polled have actually either responded to or shared one of the president's tweets. kendis, diane. >> give you zero, the likelihood that the president will care about what we think about his tweeting habits. erielle reshef, thank you there in washington. the secretary of state rex tillerson is in thailand continuing to turn up the pressure on north korea. tillerson is urging thai officials to tighten their visa program to keep north korean businesses from setting up an economic hub with sham companies

threatening revenge over tough new sanctions imposed by the united nations. a new government report says americans are feeling the impact of climb change right now obtained by "the new york times" found the average temperature in the u.s. has gone up rapidly since 1980 and recent decades have been the warmest of the past 1500 years. much of the blame is attributed to human activity. a claim questioned by president trump in the past. and the trump administration has to sign off on the report before it's made public. some scientists are now concerned it'll be suppressed. much of the eastern u.s. is bracing for another round of violent weather. >> the latest radar shows a severe weather system stretching nearly 1200 miles from way down there in the deep south you see the scene in houston to the northeast. >> now, that follows a day of dangerous storms in maryland where a possible tornado blew through the city of salisbury flipping cars in this parking lot. police posted to twitter no injuries have been reported. other damage around the area

included roofs torn off walls caved in trees as well uprooted and power lines in this d.c. suburb knocked down. >> moving over to delaware roads inundated but despite the flooded roads and repeated warnings of people not to drive through flooded areas, it didn't stop these drivers from braving the wear and now let's take a closer look at today's forecast. good morning. looks like we'll have more of the wet tough than we need. particularly throughout salt lake city, nevada, utah going into southern portions of wyoming and all of colorado just to start off but that's not the only place. this is where it's going to be a problem for the southeast. steamy flee continuing out of the south will create continuous rain for the entire week for houston, jackson, mississippi, new orleans as well as atlanta, over towards jacksonville, tampa all the way towards miami. i'm accuweather meteorologist paul williams.

tropical storm franklin has made landfall on the east coast of the yucatan peninsula. franklin is expected to track across the peninsula and back over open water before making a second landfall on thursday in eastern mexico, possibly as a hurricane. franklin could dump more than a half a foot of rain across the yucatan before heading back offshore. the godson of el chapo is now under indictment in the u.s. he pleaded not guilty to smuggling and other charges during a bail hearing in san diego. serrano's father is a reputed top lieutenant for el chapo, the leader of the sinaloa drug cartel. el chapo arrested last year. the pentagon identified the three marines killed when their osprey aircraft crashed off the coast of australia. lieutenant benjamin cross and corporal nathan ordway both members of the flight crew as well as private first class ruben very last co-who just

turned 19. all three died when it went down during a training mission. the wreckage of the aircraft has also been located. and 16 years after the 9/11 terror attack the remains of another victim have been identified in new york. the identity of the 1,641st victim was discovered through dna retesting. about 40% of those killed more than 1100 victims still remain unidentified. also here in new york, an emotional and rare ceremony where lost purple heart medals were returned to the veterans and their families. >> bagpipers opened the ceremony because one was returned to a member of the department in iraq who was injured 13 years ago. several others were turned to veterans' families awarded to men who fought in korea and vietnam. well, still ahead, we learned overnight about cruise ship passengers taking extreme measures because of pirates. plus hikers come

what's being described as an around the clock manhunt is now under way in missouri. heavily armed police as you can see there have been going door to doorp outside kansas city looking for ian mccarthy charged with first degree murder of a rookie police officer. authorities consider him to be armed and dangerous. just learning about a luxury round the world cruise that included preparations for a pirate attack. a freelance travel writer is telling the story of the "sea princess." it included a ten-day dusk to dawn blackout. no lights or loud music. the 1900 passengers endured pirate drills warning that the risk 6 a pirate attack as they traveled from the indian ocean to the suez canal was real. luckily no pirates spotted. hackers going by the name of mr. smith have posted a fresh batch of stolen documents from hbo and are now demanding several million dollars in ransom from the network. the documents appear to be
