sharrie williams joining us and the big story on "action news" is that 10-year-old boy found by a passing driver in burlington county. >> "action news"'s walter perez hacked down that mother today. he's live in millville with the full story. walter. >> reporter: hey, guys, the charges in this case are deeply disturbing. a short time ago as you mentioned we had an opportunity to speak with the suspect in this case but she was not in the mood to speak with us. we went to the home of debra wisler of millville hoping to get her side of the story but she stopped us before we even set foot on her property. i just want to give you an opportunity to explain what happened. >> just leave the property. i'm asking you nicely. >> reporter: thank you. the 39-year-old mother is accused of abandoning her 10-year-old son who has special needs in this wooded area near joint base mcguire dix lakehurst nearly 70 miles family home in millville.

someone sop the youngster emerge and contacted authorities. the youngster has been taken into proem ticket tiff custody. new jersey stays police contacted miss wisler the next day after the 10-year-old provided them with her name and address. the detectives from the bordentown station say that when she was questioned about the case, investigators determined that wisler allegedly left the youngster in the woods with only his luggage after finding out he was not eligible for a youth program at the base nearby. barbara tot says she was the younger's teacher's aide in kindergarten and first grade and she is floored by the accusation. >> i was just so shocked because mom adores him. he was her life and i -- i just can't believe it. i can't believe she would do that. >> reporter: we also spoke with people who live near pie who say they cannot come to grips with what the suspect is accused of doing. >> if it's true it's pretty sad. it's pathetic. >> it's terrible. i couldn't even imagine how squared that little kid was.

it's horrible. >> reporter: so, clearly miss wisler was released pending her next court hearing. she faces a slew of charges including endangering the welfare of a child. we're happy to report that while the youngster was that found frightened and hungry, he was not injured. reporting live from millville, walter perez channel6 "action news." back to you guys. >> walter thank you for that report. in other news four men were arrested after a violent home invasion turned into an hours long standoff in montgomery county. it all started around 8:30 this morning when a neighbor spotted a pair of suspicious men knocking on the doors of a home. two other men were spotted entering the home through a front window. once inside, those suspects allegedly threatened to kill the homeowner. two suspects were captured trying to run from the scene. two others caught when police converged on the house. they'll be charged with home invasion burglary and weapons offenses. >> developing news now from washington, d.c. president trump responded to

shooting in north philadelphia which left a new jersey man in critical condition. the exchange of gunfire was caught on camera. police now say the suspect shot first forcing officers to open fire. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live at philadelphia police headquarters tonight with the latest on the investigation. vernon. >> reporter: good evening, rick. josé gonzalez aged 30 of camden, new jersey, remains in critical condition tonight at temple university hospital as a result of a bad decision he made when he was confronted by philadelphia police in north philadelphia just after 4:30 last night. but frankly, gonzalez has a long history of trouble with the law especially across the delaware river. [gunfire] >> (screaming). >> reporter: this was the way it looked and sounded in broad daylight on north fairhill street just after 4:30 yesterday as a wild gun battle erupted between police an 30-year-old suspect from camden, new jersey.

[gunfire] >> reporter: when the shooting was over this man josé gonzalez from camden was down critically wounded by the police. they say he opened fire on them as they responded to a 911 call of a man with a gun. >> didn't say a word. they told him what to do and he refused to comply and then fired instead so we're fortunate, you know, that the police officers weren't struck with gunfire. unfortunate that a home was struck and very fortunate that no one inside was actually hit as well. >> reporter: police say gonzalez's bullets penetrated the home of fairhill street resees dent natasha -- residents natasha. >> it went through the window and ceiling and the shell fell above her head,. >> reporter: josé gonzalez has a long rap sheet more than a dozen arrests in camden for drugs, assault, kidnapping and

stalking. he was just out of jail here in philadelphia after being arrested and charged with an august 3rd car theft. sharrie, when gonzalez is released from the hospital he'll go right to the state -- to the city jail and be held on charges of attempted murder of a police officer. everyone here is saying today it is so fortunate there were no more serious injuries. live at police headquarters in center city, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> vernon, thank you. well, philadelphia police say they have recovered the rental cars stolen from an avis over the weekend. officials say four thieves roughed up a security guard then stole four cars from the avis at the philadelphia international airport early saturday morning. one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. the guard is said to be okay now. so far none of the suspects has been tracked down. >> they held a beat the heat rally in center city today but it was more about just the

weather. hundreds gathered in protest of the trump administration's plan to undo years of environmental progress. today's event was meant to highlight the rising temperatures that have led to increased levels of smog, dangerous heat waves and more. they also talked about clean energy solutions. >> legislators labor leaders and citizens calling on the pennsylvania house to return from recess and pass a tax on marcellus shale to fund the state budget. pennsylvania is the only state in the nation that does not place an extraction tax on the booming natural gas industry. those gathered today to spread a message. >> a trial is under way now in colorado involving pop star and berks county native taylor swift. swift has accused a former radio host of sexual assault. in the high profile trial drew hundreds of people to the courthouse in denver today. fans lined up in the early hours of the morning in hopes

pending. >> health check tonight students in philadelphia and across pennsylvania will have some new requirements on immunizations when they go back to school in a new weeks. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman at the big board with more. >> the first change is that every child from kindergarten to 12th grade must be fully immunized on the first day of school or they can be left out. the law used to allow eight months. now there's only a five day allowance. the philadelphia school district reminded parents of two other changes. all students must have a fourth dose of polio vaccine including one at or after age four and students entering 12th grade now need an additional dose of meningitis vaccine. the city's health commissioner says parents shouldn't wait to check their child's record. >> any children who need to be caught up before they start school this fall. message top parents today is make an appointment with your child's doctor before school

"action news" reporter katherine scott has the full story. >> reporter: in the daylight you could see the broken windows the shell of the two story end row home in kensington. debris piled on the sidewalk on the 1800 block of east clementine street. authorities initially came for a fire here. they found a body. overnight the crime scene unit searched the property with

flashlights. a k-9 unit accompanied investigators from atf. l and i examined the building. last night shortly before 11:00, 24th district officers were flagged down. fire crews arrived in two minutes and were met with heavy flames on the first floor of the two-story home. once they extinguished the flames firefighters discovered the body of a 28-year-old man on the second floor. fire officials say another person had escaped the flames by jumping from the second floor. that civilian and one firefighter were taken to the hospital in stable condition. >> we have one of our own members transported for heat related injuries and he is also and stable and being evaluated. >> reporter: neighbors say the building is vacant and is often used by squatters. still, as the investigation was going on, authorities went door to door to raise awareness about fire prevention. >> our fire prevention division is on location canvassing the area and giving out smoke alarms and fire prevention literature. >> reporter: the fire marshals office and the homicide division continued to

investigate this case. at police headquarters, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> and atlantic county sheriff was taken to the hospital following a crash this afternoon in south jersey. this was the scene along malone avenue near route 40 in mays landing. the sheriff's cruiser and an suv collided. authorities have not told us if the other driver was hurt or if any charges will be filed in this case. >> the search is on for an armed thief who stormed into a local wawa demanding money. philadelphia police just released this surveillance video from inside the store on the 800 block of cottman avenue in the city's fox chase section. the suspect walks in with a backpack puts it on the counter opens it up pumps out a gun and -- pulls out a. >> and and told the clerk to clean out the register. the clerk wasn't injured but if you recognize the thief, detectives would like to hear from you. bucks county prosecutors have filed several new charges against hulmeville funeral director david faust.

police say the 52-year-old stole a total of $297,000 from 54 different clients who paid him advance for prearranged funerals. faust allegedly forged one woman's death certificate so he could spend the $8,700 she gave him to cover her future arrangements. authorities say that many woman is still alive. she and others contacted faust funeral home to check the status of their accounts after his first arrest on fraud charges back in april. >> it took police and firefighters roughly 30 minutes to free a person trapped upside down in a retention pond in delaware. officials say the car went off the 600 block of east basin road in new castle delaware around 2:00 this afternoon. fortunately there was very little water in the pond. so rescuers were able to quickly rescue the driver. the person was rushed to christiana hospital by medical helicopter. >> all right. time now for another check of our "action news" traffic report tuesday night. >> let's get the update now

comcast business. >> inside -- dozen of people were injured when an earthquake struck in the southwest part of the country. chandeliers and ceiling fixtures swinging back and forth in people's home during the quake. officials are assessing the damage in the area. scientists say the quake was so strong it was felt several hundred kilometers from the epicenter. 28 passengers including women and young children including three crew members rescued from a ferry boat. the chilean navy was able to rescue everyone. no one was injured. police in britain searching for a jogger who pushed a woman into the path of an oncoming bus. the incident was caught on camera right there. the incident happened on putney bridge in southwest london. you can see the runner rushed the woman into the bus lane. thankfully the bus driver avoided her and the woman only suffered minor injuries. >> ducis rodgers here now with the top sports and the eagles
