crime scene. let's show you video from chopper6 hd. you can see police questioning some of the shoppers within the past five to 10 minutes, individually questioning them allowing them to return to their cars in the parking lot. this all played out around 3:30 this afternoon. we're told there was some sort of argument near the front of the store. when shoppers and employees heard three to four gunshots. one of the witnesses explained what happened next. >> looked at my mom and we looked up and we seen all these people started running towards us and all the workers came by and were like everybody to the back of the store so as we got to the back of the store i walked over and we seen the door and all you seen was the guy who o got shot he walked in and literally like fell to his knees. >> reporter: the shoppers and employees then were rushed into the back of the store where they stayed for 10 to 20 minutes we're told. at that point they were allowed out the back entrance. now, at this scene you may be able to see what appears to be a hat and maybe some shell

casings there in the parking lot. police still on the scene, still investigating and about to provide some additional information to the media who is, , who are gathered here but what we know at this point is that one man was injured, shot multiple times. one suspect is in custody. there was a s.w.a.t. team that went through this store looking for a possible second suspect. at this point we have no word whether there was. what we do know, though, is that the situation does appear to be under control. one person being treated at this point at aria torresdale. reporting live in the northeast, jeff chirico channel6 "action news." >> thank you jeff. more breaking news right here out of the crescentville section of philadelphia. chopper6hd captured huge flames shooting out of the auto repair shop in the 5500 block of tabor avenue. that fire reached two alarms but in the last hour firefighters were able to get it under control. no injuries reported in crescentville. fire crews still on the scene,

though investigating at this hour. we have worked here to get information about an incident at a pharmacy in the unit block of west state street in media. officials tell "action news" they have multiple units there and we have a crew there as well. we'll get updates for you throughout the newscast and on 6abc.com. >> now to the latest in that hazing death trial under way near penn state. today a judge demanded answers from an adviser to the fraternity under investigation. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live in our satellite center with all of today's developments. chad. >> yeah, rick, we're in month three of this preliminary hearing and still no word if these frat members will be held for trial but a possible defense is beginning to take shape. defense attorneys want to call penn state football trainer tim been to testify. he was a live in adviser to the beta theta pi fraternity house. they want to know what he knew about the alcohol fueled pledge event that led to the death of 19-year-old timothy piazza. it appears defense attorneys

are trying to lay blame on breen. >> if he can't foresee that this creates the kind of problems and risks that the da are arguing our clients should have seen. >> at this point mr. bren was not there participating that night. he didn't buy alcohol, he didn't contribute to serving alcohol, he didn't participate in the gauntlet. >> a retired state trooper says he hasn't been able to serve breen with aspen nap despite contacting university lawyers and authorities at the building where breen. the judge will hold a contempt hearing later this month. breen has not been charged with any crime. prosecutors expect breen to take the fifth amendment and not testify. >> if there's evidence that someone wants to give the prosecution about mr. breen bring it. otherwise i don't feel comfortable talking about it

as if he's in trouble for something. >> contempt and preliminary hearings will resume on august 30th. i'm live in the sat center chad pradelli channel6 "action news." monica. >> thank you chad. more tough words tonight from president donald trump in the wake of possible threats from north korea. trump says north korea's leader kim jong un will "regret it fast if he threatens or acts against gaum or any other u.s. ally". lawmakers and world leaders expressed concern about trump's rhetoric towards north korea and the war of words it has sparked. today trump said his critics are only complaining "because it's me." >> the margate dune dispute continued in court today. this time the setting was a state level show down. margate is fighting to halt the dune project. for two in the courts this week, this time the hope was to get a judge in atlantic city to compel the state department of environmental protection to delay the fed's resumption of work until at least after labor day. the beach at margate today, heavy machinery used in the dunes project still parked but the corps of engineers say with yesterday's federal court order work is expected to resume early next week. this afternoon margate's mayor and lawyers made a bid to delay the resumption until after labor day. the city is convinced the project is damaging its beach. >> how can you have someone do something, admit that the whole thing is wrong, they have no idea what the solutions are and we're going to let them go down and ruin our town t it just doesn't make sense. >> reporter: the issue, the ponding of polluted storm water that formed earlier this movement while large pumps removed much of that water margate wanted a state judge today to force new jersey to order the court wait while an

acceptable solution to the ponding can be found but the judge only ordered new jersey to ask the feds if they would delay. much less than what margate wanted. >> so how are you feeling at this time? >> pretty bad, pretty bad. >> reporter: residents who attended the hearing not happy. some fear the government will build the dunes then move on without solving the storm water issues. >> when this project gets completed the core is going to say we spent all the money that was allocated, the $63 million. the core can't spend a nickel more after that so they're going to say goodbye. >> reporter: we're told there are legal safeguards that would convenient anyone involved here from walking away from any of the new problems that might be created but i think it's probably safe to say at this stage of this rather long and protracted fight that there's not a lot of trust between many of the people in margate,. ofmany of the residents there. >> wilmington police say now

only one u-haul truck was stolen from a business on northeast boulevard this week. police were called to the u-haul around 11:00 yesterday morning after a building was broken into and keys were stolen. officials say they are looking at surveillance video to determine a suspect and a motive. pokèmon go players will no longer find creatures in new castle's battery park at night. officials in new castle said the park had become a popular place to play even though the park closes overnight. residents had complained about littering and loitering there. council president says the city reached out of the to the game developer who was able to put a time control limitation in place. >> it is friday night so let's get a check of our "action news" traffic report for you now. >> take it live to gina gannon in the weather center. >> looks like we're seeing a lot more yellow on the map and less red. we like that especially on a friday and you can see right now we still have some red out there. don't get me wrong but it's only on a few spots the schuylkill expressway, it's

going to be heavy, slow on the eastbound side and northbound 95 although that that's why i'm seeing just about 19 minutes if you're traveling between the vine all the way out so really good news for you. let's take a look right now on the schuylkill expressway. if you're traveling on the westbound side this is right at city avenue westbound not bad. you can see between the vine and the blue route 23 minutes. now on the eastbound side we do have some backups and they're still taking you just about 40 minutes. 30 minutes between the blue route and the vine so definitely give yourself time out there eastbound but looks like things are wrapping up for you on that westbound side. things wrapping up on the westbound side of the vine. look at that, nice clearing happening but if you're traveling on that eastbound side you're heavy so if you're trying to make your way into center city the vine still will be crowded on that eastbound side. rick and monica back to you. >> thank you gina. >> thank you. more than 600 newly hired or returning teachers have completed orientations. sessions included discussions on classroom environment culture planning and instruction. teachers and counselors were able to have elective

>> a flight instructor killed and two passengers hurt when this single engine plane crashed in connecticut. the cessna c172 crashed at the end of a runway in new milford. a female passenger is in critical condition. a man sitting in the back seat was hurt but was able to run to a nearby house for help. the ntsb is now investigating. >> ♪ >> health check tonight. the fda says five people who were using a balloon weight loss treatment have died since 2016. that's just a short time after those devices were approved.

>> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman joins us with details. >> the agency is investigating. right now they can't say for sure if the devices are to blame. there's a few on the market and they are minimally invasive. the device goes through the mouth, then the balloon or balloons are inflated. it mimics the feeling of fullness. it's kept there for about six months while patients are monitored. all five of the recent deaths happened within a month of having the balloons inserted. on the healthcare front despite no changes passed yet a new report shows some people could face much higher premiums. experts from the keiser family foundation say the trump administration has created uncertainty and that could lead to insurers seeking higher premiums in 2018 than what was previously planned. and on a lighter note, it's fitness friday and today we take you down to the shore for a class unlike any other. it's boot camp on the bay.

represents. henon has done surprise appearances before, once as a sanitation worker and as a tour guide. >> a 93-year-old world war ii veteran is traveling to a remote japanese mountainside to deliver something a promise he made to himself while he was on the battlefield there. this is the first stop in his 10,000-mile journey to return a japanese flag. it belonged to a japanese soldier he came across when he got separated from his squad and was that behind enemy lines. he says he noticed the silk flag sticking out of the dead soldier's pocket and something that he decided to take with him. >> if i didn't, somebody else would and it might be lost forever. so, i reached over and took it, and i kind of made a promise that i'd return it. >> and he is. he hung that flag in a glass cabinet in his home for all these years but now 73 years

later he who is 93 as we said will return that battlefield souvenir to his fallen enemy's family. >> wow. well, coming up tonight on 6abc, it's the first interview with the father and daughter convicted of murder in north carolina. >> according to molly martin corbin her husband jays set corbett got angry when she woke up after tending to their daughter who had a nightmare. her own father thomas martins was in the house at the time, he was awakened by loud thumping sounds and went to check on his daughter. >> he wanted to shut me up so he covered my mouth and then he started choking me. but at some point when he stopped, i screamed and then he started again and then the next thing -- the next thing i remember is my dad standing in the doorway. >> and so i reached around and i hit him in the back of the head with the baseball bat. >> investigators though say a bloody brick found at the scene tells a much different

a lot of haze in the sky as well. that has been the case for the majority of the day and we're also tracking some moisture. storm tracker6 live double scan radar showing you those showers and thunderstorms starting to bubble up mainly to the north and west of that 95 corridor so we'll go in tighter on street level with storm tracker6 and you can see those showers pressing into bethlehem. so something to keep in mind if you're heading over to musikfest at this hour. also along route 39 to the south of lynn port heavy moisture to the north of route 222 just to the north of macungie so we're tracking the moisture as we go throughout the rest of tonight but for the majority of the day those showers are confined to our northwest suburbs and overnight it moves down to the south and east and affects all of our region as we get into our weekend. right now in philadelphia, we are coming in at 82 degrees. it's 80 degrees in trenton, 67 up in the poconos to the north and west in allentown and also into reading, temperatures are in the upper 70's. at the coast in beach haven 77, millville coming in at 81 degrees. satellite6 along with action

radar showing you it's mostly cloudy but what we are tracking is still off to our west. we've got an area of low pressure moving across the great lakes and a cold front that works its way through the eastern great lakes and back to the ohio valley. that swings our way as we get into the start of our weekend. we'll time it out for you. future tracker6 showing you by midnight we've got those showers pressing into philadelphia. they are still to our north and west. as we get into early tomorrow morning 7 o'clock it's mostly cloudy, a lot of humidity in the air and that humid moisture will start to spark more showers as we get into saturday by noon you could see that activity from lakehurst down to atlantic city and also into wildwood, it continues on and off throughout the day even at 6 o'clock tomorrow evening. and all eyes will be up in the skies as we look at the total solar eclipse on august 21st, so if you are within the path of totality you have a good chance of finding great conditions from portland across areas in south carolina but here in philadelphia we will be eclipsed by -- the

>> ♪ "action news" continues with meteorologist adam joseph , jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. >> ♪ >> we begin with breaking news tonight at 5:30. philadelphia police investigating a shooting in north philadelphia today. it happened about 5:00 p.m. it's in the 3100 block of north darien street. police have fired three shots and we now know one person was wounded. we don't know if the person was hit by police gunfire or by someone else who was shooting. no officers were injured. that wounded person was that rushed to temple university hospital. no word yet on their condition. again, breaking news in north philadelphia this afternoon, a shooting which is still under

way. >> we're following breaking news from northeast philadelphia tonight. police are once again letting employees inside of a target there following a shooting. man was shot multiple times outside of the store in the 7400 block of bustleton. he is in stable condition we're told. no suspects in custody at this time. police did swarm the store after the shooting. employees and shoppers were herded to the back of the store and eventually evacuated. police sent in s.w.a.t. as a precaution to check the store for suspects but just a short time ago employees were allowed back inside to grab their belongings but the search for a suspect still under way. >> more drama for the president tonight. abc news has learned investigators are interested in speaking with mr. trump's long time aide to learn what she knows about any possible ties between russia and members of the trump campaign. abc's lana zak is in washington with more. >> reporter: in the new york real estate scene it was sometimes said that if you wanted to get to donald trump you needed to get first

through rona grass. now investigators want to ask miss grass some questions in the ongoing russia probe. grass has worked for the trump organization for 30 years and is known as the executive gatekeeper. seen here on the first episode of the apprentice. >> he asked me to call you and tell you to meet him tomorrow morning at the new york stock exchange. >> reporter: grass currently serves as a senior vice president in the trump organization and while she did not join the president in washington, her name is seen here in that e-mail to donald trump jr. inviting him to meet with a russian lawyer claiming to have dirt on hillary clinton. meanwhile president trump said thanks to vladimir putin for his recent retaliation. >> i want to thank him because we're trying to cut down on payroll. as far as i'm concerned i'm very thankful that he let go of a large number of people because now we have a smaller payroll. >> reporter: president trump's comments coming under

fire by some like nicholas burn who writes on twitter as a foreign service veteran i 90 it elemental that our great career diplomats are treated with such disrespect by their president. reporting from washington, lana zak channel6 "action news." >> and we'll have much more on the trump administration and the growing tensions with north korea. that's coming up on world news tonight with david muir right here on "action news." >> well, five days after a woman was run over and killed in center city, police have released a picture of the person of interest. this is the man right here and the vehicle they are looking for. anne broderick was crossing the 1300 block of race street sunday morning when that white jeep rubicon hit her and kept going. police say the vehicle was captured on surveillance cameras after the crash driving through the city. the jeep rubicon has a very distinct look. it has black fenders big tires and a white top. >> we did not recover any car

parts on the scene. so, there might not be that much damage to the vehicle. there may be a dent in the vehicle from where the impact occurred. >> and here's one last look at the person of interest and the jeep involved in that deadly hit-and-run. if you recognize either, please call philadelphia police. >> surveillance video captured a robbery inside of a chinese takeout restaurant in philadelphia's logan section. a 62-year-old man was grabbing food thursday when two men approached him from behind. you could see one of the men grabbed the victim and they get into some type of altercation. the second suspect grabs the man's money offer the counter. the two men got away with the victim's wallet which contained more than $300. philadelphia police ask anyone who recognizes these men to contact them as well. >> a philadelphia woman is accused of stealing prescription pads from her employer's office and then forging the doctor's name. 49-year-old annette scott is charged with 23 felonies. investigators say she stole

the pads while working for a wilmington area doctor and distributed 23 prescriptions all for controlled substances. the investigation began in may when 25-year-old devan hawks of bear tried to steal one of the forged prescriptions at a walgreens. he was also arrested. police say the investigation is ongoing. only 10 days until what's called the eclipse of the century. on august 21st parts of the u.s. will go dark when the moon covers the sun. it should be quite an amazing sight. "action news" reporter gray hall talked of talked to an astronomer about what we can expect. >> for us here in philadelphia the last time there was a total solar eclipse right here in philadelphia, 1478. the next time in philadelphia, 2079. >> reporter: franklin institute head astronomer derek pits excited about the total eclipse coming august 21st. he said you should too. >> it will be something they've never experienced before. >> reporter: pitt says in

our area it will be a partial eclipse about 80 percent of the sun will be covered. he stresses while this is all exciting, it can also be dangerous if you don't protect your eyes. pitts advises people to use solar viewers. you can get a pair for about two dollars. >> you have a magnifying glass right in your eye called your lens. that lens will magnify the light from the sun and it will burn your retina. >> reporter: local time the eclipse starts about 1:21 and ends about 4:00 p.m. pitts says if you're able to drive to a location where you can view a total eclipse it will be an experience to remember. >> the sun is completely covered. you can seal bright planets near the sun, you can seal bright stars that you are near the sun and you have this really great experience of feeling the temperature drop. >> reporter: the franklin institute along with other places like the free library of philadelphia wynnefield branch will host viewing parties for this astronomical phenomenon. >> libraries tend to be fantastic learning centers. we'll integrate a lot of science activities including

six minutes. northbound 17 between the vine and woodhaven so we'll take that. we still have some red on the map in particular we're still a little slow on 95 northbound between i would say the vine out through allegheny. the schuylkill still hanging on with a delay in both directions eastbound and westbound. let's take you outside if you're traveling into northeast philadelphia taking the roosevelt boulevard up and over the twin bridges that that northbound side is still crawling along slowly from 76 out through to broad street so there you want to give yourself a little more time. also more time needed in particular if you're traveling in pennsauken. emergency road work on the northbound side of 130 right at route 38. this is scheduled to be out here until 8:00 p.m. and it's out there blocking the right lane and you can see with single digit speeds it's definitely a good idea to give yourself more time if that's where you're traveling. your travel times, again we saw delays they're still hanging in. on the eastbound side of 76 still 39 minutes between the blue route and the vine. if you're traveling on the blue route southbound just about 27 minutes between 76 through to 95 and on the

the owed dar made its way through the or even sickening 17 staffers. you can see them being treated on the lawn outside the hospital. the hospital still trying to figure out where that owed dar came from. day care employee accused of leaving a little three-year-old in a hot car for nearly 12 hours made her first court appearance. debra saint charles appeared to fight back tears as she faced the judge much she's charged with aggravated manslaughter in the death of little miles hill. police say on the monday morning that she had the children they were being dropped off but she failed twice to do ahead count of the van. her bond is eight at $30,000 and she is barred from working at other day cares. >> indiana state trooper being hailed as a hero tonight. he if you would two people from fiery wreck this morning. police say a ford fusion was trying to pass a semi on the shoulder when the driver overcorrected and hit the wall. the car ended up under the semi and burst into flames. a state trooper responded to the scene and was able to pull one of the passengers out through the window before it became fully engaged.

the victims were not seriously injured fortunately. dramatic dashcam video here capturing a hit-and-run in california. on the right-hand side of the screen you see an infiniti coupe speeding. watch as it tries to squeeze between a semi and another car it hits the bmw which spins out and gets stuck under the semi. the woman inside of the bmw walked away with minor cuts and bruises. police are looking for the driver that hit her. >> jaime apody in for ducis and the eagles took a beating by the packers. they're making some changes. >> this was an interesting move. you can't get something for nothing. the birds had to give up something substantial. bye-bye jordan matthews. hello darby. the bills send darby to the birds. he's young only in his third year out of florida state. he started 29 games for buffalo since they drafted him in the second round in 2015. his rookie season he was even named defensive rookie of the year by one publication. the birds give up matthews and

"action news" reporter jeff chirico has the full story. >> reporter: shattered car windows and shell casings mark the spot where gunfire erupted outside the target on bustleton avenue. chopper6 over the scene. choppers inside heard arguing just before several shots were fired. >> they were yelling at each other at first and then the security guard, as soon as he went outside that's when we heard the shots. >> we looked up and seen all these people started running towards us and all the workers came by and were like everybody to the back of the store. as we got to the back of the store i walked over and we seen the door and all you seen was the guy who got shocked -- shot and he fell to the knees. >> reporter: police dispatched the s.w.a.t. team to evacuate the store. police say the shooter had fled. >> s.w.a.t. officers go in and clear the target. we don't
