virginia. we know more about the woman who was killed when a car plowed into a crowd of protesters. abc's elizabeth hur reports from charlottesville. >> reporter: geerchg as -- good evening as the city and country rally for unit. we're hearing from the victim's friends and family. the chaos that ended in death and devastation. messages of unity and condolences for the victims. >> i want the country to know that the city is a place of extreme compassion. >> reporter: including heather heyer a 32-year-old paralegal from virginia killed when a car plowed through a car. friends and family talked about her independence.

no word on any possible injuries in the case. it was a violent night in the city of chester. three people were injured in what turned out to be a police involved shooting overnight. today community members gathered to pray for peace in the community. bob brooks has more. >> reporter: they prayed outside the chester police station this afternoon in fact members of the life of christ ministry prayed around five locations around the city. their goal to bring change to the town. church members hit the street today after a violent night in chester. one of three men police say were shot close to the church. >> we trust god to give us guidance to know what to do, how to pray and pray for the mayor and the officers is in the city. it's a difficult city right now. >> reporter: investigators say there was a shootout between two suspects and officers around 2:00 a.m. this morning. there was a high-speed chase

that would end with a high-speed crash. police say it started at the gold room bar on edgemont avenue. officers were monitoring things outside when people were leaving around exchange of gunfire erupted. one man was shot on the street. two men got in the dodge durango and fired at the officers responding. there was a brief shootout and took off. 6 blocks later they crashed into a tree. when police approached the vehicle they found both men shot multiple times. but those you saw praying out in the community today ♪ , also in the new life ministry's church despite another set back they will continue to pray. >> chester needs a reason to hope and believe things can be different. the things that are going on in the streets, the church cannot be silent about it. >> it's not going to be a negative thing to think about coming to chester, balls chester

will turn around. >> reporter: a lot of time people hope change can happen here. no officers were injured during the incident. bob brooks channel 6 "action news." >> from our new jersey newsroom police are investigating a homicide in hamilton township on the 800 block of south olden avenue. a woman was found inside the home dead from a gunshot wound. in atlantic city a woman was taken to the hospital after crashing a jet ski. police say she was skiing in the back bay near rhode island avenue this afternoon when she crashed. no further information about this case has been released. dozens of people gathered on the beach in margate but they were not sunbathing they were protesting the government ordered dune project. the judge ordered the army corps of engineers to get rid of the hazardous storm water that collected on the beach and build elevated walkways until the

project is complete. the people said this project would do more harm than good to their community. firefighters had to rescue a man who fell in a sinkhole in the strawberry section of the city. the man was trying to fill or cover the hole to keep others from falling victim when the grounds opened up beneath him christie ileto spoke to the victim today. >> reporter: walter, cones continue to line the area of the opening. that has eugene clark upset. he worries with all the cars and foot traffic on the block one of his neighbors could easily end up like him. panic on the 3100 block of knorr street. eugene clark's wife screaming for her husband trapped several feet after falling into the sinkhole. he put back cones back that a car knocked down around the safety hazard. >> i stood over there, trying

to put the pieces and standing over the hole when i opened it up, the ground went in. >> i hear him screaming my name, all i wanted to do was jump in the hole. >> reporter: rescue workers retrieved clark an hour later. his wrist, ankle and back injured. >> i'm suing now. >> reporter: the water department was alerted to a potential leak last thursday and sewer maintenance crew will be out there to do an inspection this week. in the meantime he worries that a the cones are not enough. >> it's a band-aid for a bigger problem. >> it's the cause of the whole block going it's going to spread from here it's going to spread. >> reporter: so clark said the city should put a proper cover over the sinkhole rather than cones. the water department will be out here later to do inspections. he hopes they can find his

this year's chester community affair including a room filled with backpacks. students with little advice from mom and dad were able to pick their own. firefighters in lower merion grabbed their boots and hit the streets in bala cynwood this morning for theda. the union has raised $5 million for the mda. new york auto show returns to bucks county. dozens of perfectly polished were on display at the solbury high school. organizers raised money for scholarships and the fox chase cancer center. a 113 year tradition continued today in norristown.
