search for a suspect after a couple was found dead in a south philadelphia apartment. >> 50-year-old candido gonzalez and his 23-year-old girlfriend caitlin were discovered late last night in their home on the 1300 block of federal street. "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist live at philadelphia police headquarters with the latest on this investigation. sarah. >> reporter: we're still waiting to hear the cause of death, how the 50-year-old south philadelphia man and his 23-year-old girlfriend, this afternoon after all family members were notified, police did release their identities. >> at this point we know just as much as the rest of the media. we just got phone calls this morning saying that there was a double murder down here. >> reporter: family members of 50-year-old candido gonzalez described him as full of life. late last night he and his girlfriend 23-year-old caitlyn jaje were found dead in their apartment in the 1300 block of federal street in south

philadelphia. >> she was a wonderful person. like came into his life about a year ago and she became a stepmother to his son. like she had great energy, too. and they just tried. they tried but on this day god wanted them and he had a better plan for them. >> reporter: around 11:45, police were called out after a family member discovered the couple unconscious. the bodies were found in separate rooms. the victims appeared to have been assaulted. sources tell "action news" something was tied around their necks. there were no signs of forced entry. neighbors awoke to police activity and were stunned when they learned what police were investigating. >> very rare. i mean, it's like -- wow. it's very quiet neighbor, nothing, you know, like very, very good things here but this is very, very rare. >> reporter: gonzalez's 10-year-old son was not at home at the time. family members said his mother was upstairs and heard nothing. compounding her grief, her other son gonzalez's brother was shot and killed on the

steps of this very same home a few years back. >> this is the second tragedy. she has two children, two sons and this would be the second murder at the same address for her. >> reporter: the family is asking for prayers and anyone with information to come forward. live at philadelphia police headquarters, i'm sarah bloomquist, channel6 "action news." >> ♪ >> sarah, thank you. now to an update on that violence in virginia over the weekend. police in charlottesville just spoke to the media in the past half hour. >> that's right. and tonight officials in the virginia town are calling the deadly violence over the weekend "a tragic tragic weekend." one person was killed when 20-year-old james alex fields allegedly rammed his car into a group of demonstrators counter protesting against a white nationalist rally. tonight police say 36 others were tended to by medics over the weekend including those hurt in the car ramming incidents. two state troopers are also

it is very, very clear video. so, we're going to watch it and hopefully get this guy caught quick. it's 12:30 a.m. yesterday. police say a man in his 20's walks right up to the security camera. he makes no effort to hide his identity. he makes an obscene gesture and proceeds to urinate on the wall. he then jumps into this white bmw and takes offer. it happened at a philadelphia synagogue. the congregation again solomon on tomlinson road. now she needed to find out who this man is. >> that's horrible. that's a disgrace to do that to a synagogue to do that to anything, a place of business, a home, a synagogue a mosque a church, anything like that. i think that's horrible. >> to do something like this there's just no good reason for it. >> reporter: you can hear neighbors are upset and today lieutenant dennis rosenbaum says this is something the philadelphia police department isn't going to stand for. they do believe this is an anti-semitic attack. >> we believe the synagogue was targeteddism neighbor jan channing lives a few homes down at the congregation.

target on route 73 spotted him trying to take pictures with a cell phone under the dressing room door. the incident happened last wednesday. police say the woman confronted vain and he took off. they later tracked him down at his williamstown home where investigators found additional pictures of women getting undressed in other unknown fitting rooms. vain was that charged with invasion of privacy. he was released on his own recognizance. one person was stabbed on the 3500 block of north fairhill street. investigators have not told us the victim's condition. >> a group of kids in camden are learning all about water safety this week. the action cam stopped by the boys and girls club. this is the fourth year the organization has teamed up with the zach foundation. over the next few days the five to nine-year-olds will get swimming lessons, learn about safety equipment and take part in other hands-on activities. the zach camp is named after

shades of gray. not the book, i'm talking about the forecast. >> gray hall, he's outside. >> we got a lot of clouds. you can see what i'm talking about. the clouds are in place and also the dewpoints are rising. yesterday late in the day dewpoints dropped into the 50's. it felt so refreshing. now they're climbing back up again. there's more moisture in the air. in allentown right now the dewpoint is 64. philadelphia it's 65. cape may notice it's tropical, the dewpoint is 71 degrees and dewpoints will continue to rise overnight and tomorrow dewpoints in the 70's, very humid and then we drop a little bit on wednesday into the 60's. that's also the hottest day of the next several and then dewpoints rise again on friday and late in the day on friday could that get very stormy. double scan live showing we have a scattering of light showers, really nothing all that significant but we do have the highest concentration of some showers right now over the new jersey turnpike, again they're light. it's all associated with a boundary that's pulling

through and what that will do is bring us the return of 90-degree weather on wednesday. haven't had it for awhile. today our tenth day in a row at or below normal with the clouds on the sprinkles, temperatures dropping into the 70's. philadelphia 78. allentown 77, cape may 78 and wilmington 79. so, tonight a few showers around, lots of clouds. it will be warmer than the past two nights, 66 degrees in the suburbs, about 70 degrees for center city. and future tracker showing tomorrow another cloudy day and somewhat unsettled. tonight the clouds here, some showers tomorrow morning, some light showers around. this may a little bit overdone but it shows that we're not going to see the sunshine in the morning. as we head into the afternoon, a few more showers developing across south jersey and delaware. by 5:30 rolling off the coast and we could see a little bit of brightening in the skies but really we have to wait until wednesday to see a good amount of sunshine. we've got tropical storm gert which is really strengthening. it's about 450 miles west-southwest of bermuda.

people injured. also a police officer in ohio is put on leave after this video emerged showing him making a violent arrest after a traffic stop over the weekend. and an amazing scene in nepal when elephants step in to help rescue people from flood waters. >> ♪ >> but we begin with breaking news from west philadelphia where chopper6 is live over the scene of what's being described as a marijuana grow house. this is happening on the 4800 block of cedar avenue. fire crews were called to the scene just after 3:00 this afternoon for report of strange fumes. and when they arrived they went into the building to discover a large number of marijuana plants and growing equipment. homeland security and the narcotics division have both been notified. no word yet on any possible arrests but the investigation continues here in west philadelphia. >> philadelphia police are working to piece together a shooting that happened late last night. it happened during a block party in the city's mantua section. the gunman opened fire

spraying more than 30 bullets throughout an area where families were enjoying the night. when it was over, four young people were injured. "action news" reporter walter perez covering the story. he's live now for us at the scene with the very latest today. walter. >> reporter: hi, sharrie. there are surveillance cameras all across this neighborhood but so far investigators have not found any video that can help them with this case. so, at search continues for the gunman, four people are injured and this neighborhood is shaken. the shooting occurred just after midnight as a block party was breaking up a short distance away: cynthia young lives a few feet from the scene of the crime. she says what was a quiet night in this part of mantua ended under a hail of bullets. >> pop pop pop pop pop. that's all i heard. i wouldn't get up. uh-uh, no, squared to get up. >> reporter: we also spoke with a young mother who did not want to be identified who says she was walking across the intersection of 39th and mellon streets moments before the violence erupted. >> i had just came in the house me and my baby and, um,

as soon as i get in the kitchen all i hear is all these gunshots. i didn't know whether to run up the steps or -- or what to do but i know they were real close. >> reporter: when it was over, investigators recovered 31 spent shell casings from the scene. four people, all in their late teens and early 20's, were injured. one of them remains in critical condition at penn presbyterian hospital. we spoke with neighbors here who have grave concerns about their community. >> it needs to stop before it elevates to a higher level of crime. >> this place here nobody is safe. you never know who has a gun. kids, you know, teenagers out here, you never know who has a gun and bullets don't have no name on it. >> reporter: now, in the wake of this case just moments ago, a 16th district police officer was walking around handing out copies of this flier here to organize a prayer vigil and peace walk at this location at 6 o'clock on wednesday night. reporting live from mantua, walter perez, channel6 "action news." back to you guys. >> walter, thank you.

one person was injured early this morning after a gun apparently went off accidentally inside a vehicle on the ramp from the betsy ross bridge to i-95. it happened around 4:00 a.m. in the city of bridesburg section. officials say the whole thing happened inside of that vehicle and appears to have been caused by careless handling of a firearm. no word yet on the victim's condition or whether any charges will be filed. philadelphia police say this is the man who shot another man in front of a target store in northeast philadelphia last week. 30-year-old terrell wright is charged with attempted murder. the shooting happened on friday in the 7400 block of bustleton avenue. investigators say it started as a fight. police say wright fired seven shots hitting the victim once in the back. wright turned himself in later that evening. the victim remains hospitalized in stable condition. >> students in pennsylvania will spend less time taking standardized tests. governor tom wolf announced today that sections of the pssa's have now been removed.

and other sections have been shortened. the governor says he's responding to concerns from that parents and teachers who say students need to dedicate -- were dedicating too much time to taking the test. the pssa's are administered to children in grades three through eight in english math and the arts. >> to the latest on north korea now. when a top u.s. military officer says the united states is ready to use the full range of its capabilities to defend itself and its allies from north korea. the top u.s. general arrived in south korea today as part of an annual joint military exercises. it comes during a time of heightened rhetoric as president trump threatens that the u.s. military is locked and loaded. the president's top military adviser and chairman of the joint chiefs of staff stresses that the u.s. will retaliate with military action but only as a last resort. >> i don't know if they're going to do what they say they're going to do but we're not complacent about it. we're paying attention to everything that they say,

everything that they do and we're preparing accordingly. >> north korea's threatened to launch missiles towards gaum in mid august. tomorrow is liberation day in korea, the anniversary of the end of world war ii and the korean's peninsula liberation from japanese colonial rule. north korea launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile on july 4th independence day in the united states of course. meantime president trump headed back to new york city later this evening he's expected to be met by protesters who are already marching outside of trump tower. this is only the president's second return to the big apple since taking office. he met with australia's prime minister there back in may. the visit to trump tower will force the city to shut down several streets especially fifth avenue. police officials estimate the cost of securing the president while he's back in town to be around $300,000 a day. that could change, though, depending on how many people he brings with him and where

he decides to go while he's in manhattan. >> a 23-year-old man was out for blood when he allegedly tried to blow up a bank in oklahoma city. that according to authorities. jerry barn nell was arrested saturday morning. according to court documents, barnnell was upset the law enforcement took notice of it. they say he loaded what he thought was a bomb into a van parked it next to a bank and attempted to detonate it. the bomb was fake. it was part of an fbi operation involving an undercover agent posing as someone who could help with this at affect barnell faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. >> a police officer in ohio is on paid administrative leave after video of a brutal arrest was posted on facebook over the weekend. the video shows a violent struggle after the officer pulled man over on saturday morning. investigators say the officer responded to the driver committing a traffic violation. they ordered the man out of the car and tried to take him into custody. police say he began to resist arrest and refused to face

away from the officer and that's when the struggle broke out. lasted about three minutes during which the officer can be seen punching the man in the face. the victim was not seriously injured. officials continued to review exactly what happened. white a mess at a private airport in massachusetts today. when the fire suppression system malfunctioned sending foam flying all around a hangar here. four workers actually got lost inside and couldn't find their way out because they couldn't see the exit. some of those workers were taken to a local hospital to be checked out because that foam is apparently an irritant. no lasting effects are expected and most of the foam will dissolve into the ground eventually. >> today's overcast skies did not stop dozens of people from hitting the golf course in bucks county and all for a great cause. >> ♪ with the sound of bag pipes the 14th annual daniel e. dennis golf outing got under way at the bensalem

country club. proceeds benefit the make-a-wish foundation. of course that goes to help terminally ill children. >> nice cause. >> yeah time for a update on our "action news" traffic report 91 might. >> let's go live to gina gannon. >> hi, rick and sharrie. it's monday. we're seeing a lot of heavy volume right now on 76. here's a live look for you on the schuylkill expressway right at the blue route and you can see this long line of traffic, that's your eastbound delay. so, you are jammed from actually beyond this point from gulph mills all the way out through to the conshohocken curve. then you pick up again as you make your way from montgomery out through to the vine. looks like the travel time we're still in the yellow not bad about 28 minutes between the blue route to the vine. the westbound side looking great here at the blue route but you will see some delays especially from the roosevelt boulevard out through to belmont on that westbound side and it's about 22 minutes right now between the vine out through to the blue route. on the big picture we have slow speeds out there but looks like we're starting to see an end to rush hour but we showed you the schuylkill and right now that's our worse backup.

the next 24 hours. that oppressive -- oppressive -- oppressive feel will be back in the forecast starting tonight and tomorrow. and a couple of 90's on the board in that seven-day forecast. temperatures have been running each and every afternoon at or below normal through much of this month. and in fact we're only in the upper 70's right now. we did cap off in the low 80's in philadelphia this afternoon but the limited sunshine today prevented those temperatures from getting close to that normal which is 86 degrees for this time of year. as we look at satellite and radar, you can see all that cloud cover that spilled in after early this morning. we saw a little bit of sunshine but again those clouds quickly raced in and there's some energy in the atmosphere with the flow in the upper part of the atmosphere coming from the south and west you can look all the way back into kentucky and the clouds do not break up and there's those scattered showers around so that is our forecast tonight into tomorrow. so, a few showers developing tonight. you may hear a quick little pop of a downpour that tries to develop as that more humid

air arrives. warm, though, 66 to 70 for that overnight low. and as we look at the forecast for our tuesday, temperatures in the lower to mid 80's inland upper 70's along the shore so another cooler than average day temperature-wise but when you look at the humidity tomorrow will be down right tropical feeling and that will get us into trouble at times for some hit or miss and scattered thunderstorms both in the morning and afternoon. future tracker trying to give you the idea that there will be some scattered activity around. 2 o'clock in the afternoon the same thing. it won't be raining everywhere but one could pop here or there as the energy comes through but it's gone by the time we get into wednesday. sunshine returns. awaiting a front from the north so it's hot, humid with temperatures back to 90 degrees. tropical storm gert is on the verge of becoming the second hurricane of the atlantic season. winds sustained 70 miles an hour. right now it is between the u.s. mainland and bermuda, well to its east. it will curve out to sea, become a pretty strong
