outside today, you know it was seriously humid. now we're watching a system that threatens to bring severe storms to much of the area. meteorologist cecily tynan tracking the threat and joins us now live with the accuweather forecast. hi, cecily. >> hi, sharrie, hi rick. that line of severe storms is moving into our north and west county. you need lift, we got that with a cold front moving in and the fact that these are moving in the in the max heating of the day is also an ingredient that's really intensifying them. in fact, this line the past 15 minutes about 950 lightning strikes as it continues to push to the east at about 30 miles per hour. so, we have severe thunderstorm warnings really lining up all in advance of this system from parts of bucks county montgomery county berks county, a large portion of chester county and lancaster county. this means any storm in addition to to the heavy downpours and the lightning can contain wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour and even some large hail. so, we zoom in on this one part of the storm i'm watching

and you can actually see a little bit of a bowing out. what this is is bow echo. it means there's rushing winds moving in behind that system so that line that's moving just south of pottstown likely does have some damaging winds and we could flip this over and we can show you just how intense the rain is as well. the rainfall rate right now right around pottstown right across 422, more than 3.5-inches of rain an hour so these are blinding downpours. be very careful. we likely will see some flash flooding with this. as we extend further down to the south also that line moving through honey brook heading towards west chester within the next 15 minutes. we have a severe thunderstorm watch posted until 9 o'clock for our entire viewing area. that line likely hitting philadelphia around 6:00 moving off the coast between 8:00 and nine ooh. -- 9:00. >> these reminder with rain in the forecast get weather updates any time on your phone

or tablet including realtime views from storm track sticks live. -- storm tracker6 live. >> now from the white house there's been yet another shakeup in the trump administration. this time the president's chief strategist steve bannon is out. officially the white house says that bannon and chief of staff john kelly "mutually agreed that today would be bannon's last day" but a source tells abc news that bannon offered his resignation two weeks ago. bannon joined the trump campaign near exactly a year ago. he was the third person to run the campaign and help mr. trump pull off that big win. but insiders say bannon has clashed with nearly every top official at the white house. we'll have much more on bannon's ouster in our next half hour. >> a american man from california has been identified as a victim in that barcelona

attack. he and his wife were visiting barcelona for their first wedding anniversary when the driver of a van mowed down more than a hundred people killing 13. >> i don't know what my feelings are. i'm not angry so much as i just don't understand it and my wife's in shock. >> investigators now say that the driver is a 17-year-old and is one of five suspect killed by police early this morning during another attack at a seaside resort. in finland a man stabbed eight people today in the western city of turku killing two of them. that nation's top police chief says it's too early to link the attack to terrorism. the suspect was shot in the thigh. officials are now increasing security around the country and are searching for any additional suspects. >> the mayor of charlottesville, virginia is calling on that state's governor to convene an emergency meeting of lawmakers

to allow the city to remove the statue of robert e. lee. discomes nearly a week after white supremacists descend the on the city for a rally which that turned violent leaving one woman dead. this morning heather heyer's mother reveals that she's not interested in speaking with president trump after this comments blaming both sides for that violence. >> youyou wipe this one away by shaking my hand and saying i'm sorrily. >> distinguished guests. >> the president's comments have members of his own party calling into question his moral leadership. >> well, as cities and towns through the nation begin to move statues of confederate leaders calls are growing here in philadelphia to remove the statue of controversial former mayor frank rizzo. late last night someone spray painted the words black power on the statue. a suspect has been arrested and identified. vandalism a man named wally ramen 40 years old from the germantown section of the city. police were alerted to the vandalism after night shortly after 11:00 p.m. >> do not destroy property. >> reporter: protesting and standing guard his message he wants the president impeached but is adamant the frank rizzo statue belongs. >> mayor frank rizzo was not a racist. he did the best he could for the city of philadelphia. he loved the city of philadelphia. >> reporter: anthony not here last night when someone spray painted the statue with the words black power and an arrest was made and the statue cleaned. it was tuesday when councilwoman helen gym sent this tweet linking rizzo to racism and shafer regional rail wednesday someone egged the statue. security was stepped up and a camera installed. the camera was removed after this wednesday night march. police not saying how officers were deployed when the vandal hit thursday night.

the franklin institute had 3500 of these classes delivered this morning. they are now gone. they sold out around 2 o'clock this afternoon. take a look. here's what the line looked like around noon today, people wrapped around the corner inside the franklin institute into the lobby next to the ben franklin statue. customers say they waited 20 to 40 minutes hoping to score some of the iso compliant glasses to watch the solar eclipse on monday. these glasses will allow you to look at the sun without damaging your eyes. there's a list of reputable vendors for glasses and filters on their web site. we've posted that list on 6abc.com. these glaze here at the franklin were also on that list. the folks we talked to in line say they have been hunting for glasses for days. >> i didn't see it the first time back in, what, 79 i wanted to see it. >> reporter: who are you going to watch it with. >> probably my daughter. >> my husband called all the places like home depot the

is traveling to missouri to bring you one of the best views of monday's great american eclipse. his live reports begin sunday right here on "action news." time now for the "action news" traffic report. >> matt pelman back in the "action news" traffic center and it's friday finally, matt, hm. >> and we try to take the glasses half full approach when it comes to delivering the traffic but it's tough on a friday afternoon because there are lots of issues and the hits have just kept coming here along 95 northbound. since last we spoke there was a crash here in the northbound left lane right by the exit for broad street. luckily it just cleared out. farther north there was a broken down vehicle and we had a medical emergency on the walt whitman bridge headed into new jersey. that's now cleared as well. all these issues clearing out but you still have pretty big delays as you head towards the walt whitman bridge. of course the shore traffic isn't helping us out either. now it's pouring here in chester county. we're close to coatesville on the route 30 bypass by 340. traffic volume isn't too bad but there's a lot of rain coming down so those speeds

another 40 minutes. jobs start at $12 an hour. a pop-up museum in los angeles has some people turning heads as it's focused entirely on o.j. simpson. the museum is hard to miss from the outside where the white bronco parked right out front. it's the same year and model simpson was in during that 1994 infamous chase. inside the museum you'll find three different o j. teamed board games sports memorabilia greeting card and an entire wall of oj shirts. there's even a gift shop. it's a mix of fame and infamy and things that might make you go hm? the pop-up museum is opened until august 22nd. ooh wonder if they serve oj. >> they must. >> it looks like it's again to gorgeous fall in new england. it's been a mild summer. there hasn't been much of a drought and the leaves have been larnly spared by gypsy moth caterpillars.

>> very stormy and i just posted a photo that was shared from wyomissing of water rescues going on right now. >> wow. >> we have some flash flooding going on out there. let's get to the "action news" weather center and show you we have that severe thunderstorm warning, actually many of them lining up just to the west of i-95 just west of philadelphia and we have that flash flood warning for parts of berks county where we do have a lot of cars stuck in high water. as i always say turn around don't drown. the severe thunderstorm warning is due to the fact that any storm could contain some very intense wind gusts. 60 to 70 miles per hour and the also potential for quarter size hail and this line is really holding together very well and working to the east. so, this is the photo that corey took. this is in wyomissing, state street and penn avenue. cars are stuck on the roads, water rescues going on. be careful. these storms are dropping a lot of rain in a short tiered of time. do not drive into flooded

roads. this is the line we're tracking. you can see how it's really solid from the poconos through the lehigh valley into chester county right now and this line is crossing the northeast extension currently. this is the bowing, an indication of the damaging winds. that will be hitting lansdale, gwynedd, montgomeryville eureka maple glen and warrington as it continues to push to the east about 30 miles an hour and that line extends into chester county. we have another echo boeing out with more intense winds right at the intersection of route 41 and one. avalon yorklyn long wood all in the path of that storm, a very stormy night. part of the reason why look at these dewpoints. these are dewpoints you tip presidential candidately see in the gulf coast and the rainforest. you don't get dewpoints in the 80's very often. philadelphia mid stents so the moisture is oppressive. you add to that the temperature, the heat index, the way it feels philadelphia despite the clouds 99 degrees,

feels like triple digits just to the south but notice the north and west counties, the heat index in the 70's, rain cooled. so, satellite and radar showing this line of storms. once you get that main line moving through there's not much activity behind it. we'll be drying out. future tracker showing if you're heading out philadelphia right around 6:30 that line rolling right across the i any of corridor. down the shore should be reaching the coast between about 8 o'clock and 9 o'clock. it pull also out tomorrow morning. we see partly sunny skies. it's going to be a warm day but lowering humidity through the day. a good amount of sunshine late in the afternoon temperatures rising up into the upper 80's but with dewpoints dropping into the low 60's its going to feel a lot better. tomorrow not as humid mostly sunny by the afternoon 89 degrees. sunday warm but low humidity 88. still looking great for monday's eclipse. sun with a few fair weather clouds 89 degrees. the heat and humidity returns much returns on tuesday, 92 degrees, some

storms torrential rain and vivid lightning. severe thunderstorm warnings for all of these because these storms as they are progressing through from the west to the east winds near 60 miles an hour and even some hail with these storms as well. as we take a look at one part of the storm here on storm tracker6 live double scan near lansdale worcester this is heading to the east about 25 miles an hour has a bit of an arc to it. along 202, 309 approaching doylestown willow grove right on the brink of norristown as this is moving in and we switch from our rain mode over to the velocity mode. what you're seeing here in these green colors especially the brighter greens, this is winds moving towards our radar of speeds near 60 miles an hour so it is in that line between norristown and doylestown where we're funneling that wind through so

however it's also being reported that bannon and current chief of staff john kelly decided today would be his last day. was bannon forced out? abc's janai norman is live in washington, d.c. tonight with all the details. >> reporter: rick, speculation has been growing over whether steve bannon's time in the white house was limited and today the white house confirming he's out. it's the fourth major shakeup of the trump administration in as many weeks. now with the exception of mike pence, all of the president's original men are out. in the last month, first press secretary sean spicer resigned then chief of staff reince peeks. anthony scaramucci resigned as communications director after just 10 days and now steve bannon. the announcement just days after president trump wouldn't commit to saying whether he has confidence in bannon. >> he's a good man. he is not a racist, i can tell you that. he's a good person. he actually gets a very unfair press in that regard. but we'll see what happens

with mr. bannon but he's a good person and i think the press treats him frankly very unfairly. >> reporter: many close to trump had been privately urging him to fire bannon who also fought with several people inside the white house including trump's son-in-law jared kushner. the departure comes after backlash to trump's handling in charlottesville. brannon was best known for running breitbart news an alt right site with a record of producing a number of racially charged headlines. >> i never sat down with steve bannon put i think the toleration of it by steve bannon is inexcusable. >> reporter: and today new york investor and businessman carl icahn reply signed as a special adviser to the president.

responding to a different accident. but when he saw a red car on the side of the road. when he stopped he found a real medical emergency. a 70-year-old woman was struggling to breathe. at first trooper paul tried to get the woman identified as jill murphy to sit in the passenger seat but when her breathily stopped completely she placed him in on the secret and started yes. pr. within seconds murphy was awake. >> can you talk to me a little bit? talk to me, okay? you stopped breathing for me a little bit. >> "action news" caught up with trooper paul this afternoon. he told us his training really kicked in at the right moment. >> it feels good. it wasn't until this morning that it kicked in of what i actually d it was just like a normal day of work and i'm glad that it's a great turnout. >> and at last check the woman was doing well.

>> good news. a delaware man under arrest after a violent confrontation with wilmington police. 25-year-old rydal mills was arrested last night on the 300 block of east 23rd street. police were investigating some drug activity reported in that area. when they confronted mills they say he tried to run. well, during the ensuing struggle police say one officer suffered cuts and sprained his foot. mills was also treated for minor injuries and booked on charges of drugs and resisting arrest. >> a 16-year-old boy from hatfield, montgomery county, was volunteering on a construction project inside the building there when he fell approximately 45 feet. the victim was taken to a hospital in hamilton where he died an hour later. police say the fall appears to be an accident.

again that's tomorrow night into sunday morning but right now on the big picture still plenty of slowing on the schuylkill expressway and i-95 especially southbound heading into delco. we jam from 420 on down to the commodore barry bridge. now there's a crash on the barry headed into new jersey on the upside. speeds like just 11 miles per hour coming off of 95. depending on where you're going you might want to try to get down to the delaware memorial bridge, take that into new jersey but going its other way i would take the woman carry, just 12 miles per hour on the delaware bound delaware memorial bridge but luckily our crash on route four by the tj max has cleared out as will i, rick and sharrie have good weekend. >> downpours and storms moving into our area new. meteorologist adam joseph tracking all of it for us. >> western suburbs have been blasted. they continue to get hit just west of philadelphia now severe thunderstorm warnings in effect in and around the city of philadelphia. as we look at sky6 live you can see some of the storms

approaching philadelphia here one side, brighter than the other. you can see which side is getting whacked and the other is not. one of those days you can see the storms rolling in from the west. as we take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan here, there you can see kind of a broken line nasty storms to the north nasty storms to the south but the city itself may escape the worst of the storms as they are splitting parts of the area right now with a little bit of a void in between. but nonetheless, severe thunderstorm warnings basically in a line all the way from mercer county hunterdon county through philadelphia wilmington on either side of not only the delaware river but that i-95 corridor including northwestern parts of new jersey as well as northern parts of delaware and southeastern pennsylvania. we start with the line to the north here. through parts of montgomery county near willow grove south of doylestown, new hope, this line moving to the east at about 25 miles an hour. newtown expecting it around

6:04, washington crossing at 6:oh 8:00 p.m. you can expect very powerful be winds, 75 lightning strikes in the last 15 minutes. and as we sync down to the south the line is starting to fire back up. notice how it's just kind of popping there. really not much in the first frame and then you get the reds to explode near the conshohocken curve. it jumped over eastern chester county and now refueling as it's approaching philadelphia but this is the nasty storm near chadds ford and wilmington heading to the east aston at 6:01 and then brookhaven 6:10. you can expect the most intense part of the storm to pass by, 264 lightning stakes in this advantage point in the last 15 minutes. moving into some very impressive heat indices 106 millville, 101 dover. down to the south this is where the atmosphere has a lot of fuel still left in it and you see in the north and west how those heat indices have dropped off once the storms passed by. we have that tremendous

moisture risk atmosphere. severe thunderstorm watch until 9 o'clock this evening. passing through philadelphia around 7 o'clock approaching millville then et cetera shore between 8 o'clock and 9 o'clock and then finally off the coast between 10 o'clock and midnight when it quiets down. it has been tropical. dewpoints today upper 70's to low 80's. by the weekend 60 to 65 which will be slightly humid but going to feel very comfy compared to today. if you're heading down the shore 80 degrees the water temperature, low risk for rip currents, 86 saturday sun and clouds. sunday 83 degrees mostly sunny so a real nice weekend on tap for you at the shore and also if you're heading up into the poconos looking good up there. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 89 tomorrow. 88 on sunday with dropping humidities, lots of sun and speaking of a lot of sun, it will be here on monday for that total solar eclipse and partial for our area.

they're all in effect right now. we're worried about flash flood watches that will be in effect until at least midnight. we are especially concerned with the possibility of damaging winds. meteorologist cecily tynan is live at the "action news" big board and has the full story. >> and jim, this line of storms arrived really right on schedule. 6 o'clock tonight it's just west of the i-95 corridor and these storms are being fueled by the high humidity. these dewpoints in the 80's in some areas today. the fact that we saw some sunshine today and also a cold front that's moving in, that's helping provide lift. so we've got severe thunderstorm warnings essentially right along. i-95 corridor right in front of the line of storms and these are in that be effect until 6:45. this is because any of these storms can could and taken in addition to the heavy downpours and the lightning also wind gusts more than 60 miles per hour, winds and also you get the hail. so, this is what we're looking at right now. this i
