t the 69th street transportation center in upper darby when a train crashed into a cars that was stopped. sara bloomquist is live with more on the investigation. >> reporter: monica and walter we are waiting on the first briefing from the national transportation safety board in regard to this incident. this is not the first collision, the only collision at the 69th street terminal in recent months. investigators are working to figure out what happened this time around. investigators are expecting tracks and other equipment to determine the cause of this collision on the rails. >> just to let them do their job and do a thorough investigation, i have all the confidence that septa will do that and the national transportation safety board takes a little longer. >> the northbound high speed line was arriving at the busy transportation center when it crashed into an empty stationary

train. the impact caused injuries that sent 42 people including the operator of the moving train to hospitals. ramon woodard says it tossed him through the seat. >> it hit the other train and i automatically flew out of my chair. and the glass came out after that. >> most of the fellow passengers suffered minor injuries and four others required observation at a trauma senter. we have been through the emergency response on prior occasions this one went like we would have expected with the plans we put in place and the scenarios we practice. back on february 17th four people were hurt when car as long frank ford septa line derailed here at the 69th street turnal and in may two trolleys came into contact causing minor injuries to four passengers. woodard was surprised by is the speed of the train on at

experienced wiley veteran. tom mezzoro -- >> they should be arriving tonight for the full team to be here. before i go further -- >> we had to depart from vernon odom briefly because we want to take you live to the news conference in the center city hotel on the update on the two septa trains that crashed. >> the ntsb is an independent federal agency charged by congress to investigate transportation accidents and determine the probable cause and make recommendations to recent a rio occurrence. like i ted before we are arriving on scene and starting to get our investigation started so here is just some preliminary information we have to date. at 12:15 a.m. septa train 155 struck an unoccupied train rail car 148 while entering the 69 and street transportation

center. preliminary reports from local authorities indicate there was 32 passenger injuries and one train operator injury also. on board video recorders from the two rail cars are downloaded and sent to our vehicle recorder lab in d.c. for further analysis. the ntsb has brought an eight member go team. each team member is an expert in different fields and they will be collecting evidence in their specific disciplines, including mechanical and operation and signal and train control, and crash worthiness and emergency response, and human performance. throughout the next few days ntsb investigators are worth on scene to gather the details of this accident. our mission during this investigation is to understand not just what happened but why.

why it happened and to recommend changes to prevent it from occurring again. we will not be determining the cause of this accident while here on scene. right now we are just beginning the investigation so we do not have a great deal of information. we'll keep you updated address we learn more. on scene is the media relations officer eric weis and members of the media can reach eric. i can take a few questions now -- >> so when you guys when can we get an idea of results from the investigation? >> we'll be here on scene for four or five days collecting once we continue here we continue at our home headquarters in was all the documents we collect and all t we collect we'll open up a docket

eventually and that will become available to the public in the docket is our factual reports from each discipline and when we finish 9 to 12 months from now the final report will be available to the public. >> walk us through some of the things, like specifically you look into something like this what you investigate checking this thing? kind of what the list of things would be in something like this? >> it's very extensionve they are not all the same. our mechanical person does a complete mechanical inspection of the train. they check the equipment, and the operation of it. the mainance history on it and do a complete run through of the whole system. the propulsion and braking and our train control system expert looks into the signals. were they working properly are

they maintained properly and what were they indicating to the train at the time of the accident and looking at the communications at the control center and the field. our survival factors, the crash worthiness, he will be looking at the cars themselves what caused the injuries to the occupants, the design of the car and crash worthiness survived and performed during the crash and if there is improvements to be identified. and we'll have our operations. they will do interviews of the train crew the train dispatcher and any other pertant person we identify as having information. >> can you tell us about the damage to the two cars there doesn't seem to be a lot of damage to the back of the car and the car coming in.

>> we did a followup inspection of the two vehicles there is damage inside. there is buckling of the floor, but where the cars are situated right now doesn't allow for a complete inspection to get underneath the cars we did a preliminary examination and there is some damage once we get the cars moved to a shop and look underneath them we'll do a thorough examination and document any other damage. >> i know you can't speculate but it appears not only here but in new york. several train accidents in the last couple of years, all appear to be caused by speed. what would you say to train engineers out there that may be listening about your concerns about speed on the rails? which appear to be the cause of many of these crashes? >> well we are focusing right now on this investigation. we are collecting all the evidence we can. make sure we don't lose

the driver was also hurt. both westbound lanes and one eastbound lane of christiana road were closed for a time. disturbing story here. two men are arrested for allegedly trying to arrange sexual encounters with children in montgomery county. michael houston from philadelphia and nicholas mosque from willow grove. both used the internet to can't anyone they believed might be a child to arrange sexual encounters but in reality. they were talking to june cover police officers. houston is held on $200,000 cash bail and mosque on $125,000 bail. authorities in montgomery county are asking for the public's help to find a would be bank thief. these pictures were taken yesterday afternoon at the td bank in flourtown. he walked in and handed the teller a note. and the teller did not give him
