homes moving inland. this storm will likely be a category three hurricane when it unleashes its furry on this part of the united states. >> it is thursday night. the big story on "action news" tonight is the approach of a monster storm. you are looking at video from the eye of harvey photographed by airborne hurricane chasers. 700 members of the national guard have been called up by the governor of texas. meteorologist cecily tynan is live in the "action news" weather center with the latest on what could be a massively destructive ept, cecily. >> jim, this is a possible worst case scenario. we have a strengthening hurricane slowing down dramatically. i want to switch to weather one and show you the storm system. we have the infrared satellite. this storm was a suppression yesterday. it ramped up to a category one hurricane today.

now you can see it continues to spin 250-miles south of corpus christie. if you look at the cloud tops, we have a lot of convection north of the center. once it comes together overnight, it should ramp up, continue to strengthen lieu the overnight hours. part of the reason why, you look at the gulf of mexico, it's like bath temperature. temperatures in the water, upper 80s. that's feeding the storm. there is not a lot of wind sheer and the storm will make landfall likely corps corpus christie asa category three hurricane and essentially stall. it will be so close to the coast, it won't weaken much. we are looking at the potential for major flooding, 15 to 25 to perhaps 30-inches of rain. we have the local forecast later on.

collision between the u.s.s. john mccain and an oil tanker near singapore. one of those sailors has been found, kenneth smith of cherry hills. christie ileto is in the satellite center. what did you learn? >> his friends say he was a kind and generous person without a bad bone in his body. they are struggling to come to terms with the fact that he's gone. >> it's hard when you get the news that he's missing. two days later, you find out there is no coming back. >> it was the grim outcome friends and family of kenneth smith were hoping wasn't true. his ship collided with an oil tanker overseas, his body

recovered days later. >> i'm sure he was terrified. samantha says this was the last time the group of friends saw smith. >> we watched t.v. and caught up on life. then he was back on the ship. >> did you ever think that would be the last time you would see him? >> no. that was -- a complete shock. >> gary miller says they became fast friends when smith moved here from virginia in 11th grade. he talked of joining the navy like his father. >> last thing i said, i'll see you when you get back. i miss you buddy. >> smith's father said i'm incredibly proud of his service. i'm glad we had 22 years together. >> he put others before himself. >> is it settling in? >> it's starting to. it hurts more and more.

bucks county is dealing with a devastating case of racist graffiti. jeff chirico is at the building in language horn. was was the reaction there tonight? outrage over the incident prompted a town hall meeting. it was a way to explore ways to prevent racist and hateful acts in the future. >> it concerns me a lot that this happened in our community. >> concern and outrage after someone spray painted racist words on the elementary school in language horn. it read nonblacks, the rest was so bad we blurred it. >> it's disturbing that this happened in our neighborhood. this is too close to home. >> the incident worries adrian collins who will soon be in the
