[whipping winds] >> hurricane harvey wreaking havoc across southeastern texas this morning. it made landfall at 11:00 p.m. anne continues to unleash it's fury with punishing winds and rains. christie ileto joins us. we have the latest on hurricane harvey lashing the gulf coast with damaging winds and torrential rainfall. >> the monster storm made landfall as a powerful category 4, but weakening as it crawls across the land. the slammed into rock port north of corpus christi. it's dark in texas, but we've begun to receive pictures,

there's possible tornadoes spawned from the storm, trees are down and appears to be a wall down from the wind. >> reporter: good morning you can tell the wind and rain and lightning and thunder have picked up in the heart of houston. hurricane harvey is a category one storm 90-mile an hour winds it's picking up right here. it came on land as a category 4, it's been downgraded as you can tell by the conditions out here, it doesn't mean anything to the people around here. millions in the path of the storm waiting to see what happens next. no audio. in more than a decade. this is not anything that's going to be a quick one and done. we're not measuring in inches of rain, but feet of rain. >> reporter: residents of texas,

over to chris sowers at the big board with the latest. >> reporter: good morning to you, christy and gray. thinking about where the storm started, 24 hours ago it was a tropical storm. it made landfall as a category four hurricane the first one to hit 2004. and it's been a long time since we've seen a monster to remember like this. there's the eye, we have hurricane warnings in effect for the southeast coast. we have tornado warnings this red box here which includes the downtown houston area where we're starting to pick up flooding. let's flip it over to the storm tracker 6 live we've zoomed into the victoria area. hurricane force winds are down to 90 miles per hour. they extend outward from the center 35 miles per hour. it's this area right here that's

picking up the hurricane force winds. everyone else seeing 40 to 60-mile an hour winds gusts with the feeder bands that continue to come onshore. we have a buoy report southeast winds gusts up to 77 miles per hour with sustained winds up to 54 miles per hour that's within the feeder bands that continue to work their way ashore from the open waters of the gulf of mexico. hurricane warnings continue south of corpus christi to victoria, south of houston under a tropical storm warning we're expecting winds gusts lither to the tune of let's say 40 to 70 miles per hour. what to expect over the next five days with little movement, the national hurricane center is using the same wording they used with katrina back in 2005. cat strorveg -- catastrophic flooding and extended power outages and areas could be without power for 4 to 7 days.

transporting the victim to the hospital. the person is in critical condition. investigators say they found a ski mask in the shooting victim's car. happening in delaware county firefighters battled a three-alarm fire at an apartment building in sharon hill. chopper 6 hd over the scene of the 1,000 block of woodland avenue where crews were called at 2:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon to reports of an explosion. flames shot through the roof and thick smoke flooded the area. one resident was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation. >> when i came out, only thing you could see was black smoke. >> the whole neighborhood was just, it was like a smoke bomb went off, you couldn't see anything. >> that fire was placed under control around 9:00 p.m. the buildings was immediately torn down. the red cross is helping 14 people displaced by the fire. >> still ahead on "action news," on a saturday morning, a

ripped off this home and minor injuries have been reported there, wow. incredible, started off as a category four weekend. >> reporter: it started out as a small little tropical storm, 24 hours later it ballooned into this huge category four storm with winds up to 130 miles per hour. now that it is over land it lost its fuel source. winds have dropped down to 835 miles per hour. it will weaken as it makes its way farther inland. let's take a look at the satellite image shot. we'll go for an infared shot. we have colored cloud tops. the strongest part of the storm is indicate bide the bright reds which are wrapped around the center of the circulation southwest of victoria, 90 miles per hour southeast of san antonio texas. there's houston. we have the heavy feeder bands

working onshore. corpus christi is out of the clear as far as the storm surge is concerned. it came onshore here it's this part of texas that saw the flooding that wall of water came in and devastated this part of texas, here. we'll find out just how bad the damage was as we start to pick up daylight which is happening now. 85 miles per hour category one storm. pressure 972 millibars. the storm is starting to weaken. the gust are as high as 100 miles per hour maybe more than that. what will happen over the next few days, we have a blocking area of high pressure to the northwest moving in across the four corner states. there's an area of high pressure blocking over my shoulder through here. the storm has nowhere to go with the jet stream so far to the north it's not even in the graphic there's no steering mechanism, it's sitting there. over the next several days, the

national hurricane center suggests it will do a loop close to the coast again and move back inland as a as a tropical depression here. we're looking at heavy drenching rain in an area that easily floods to begin with. houston you get thunderstorms you get flooding. the problem with this part of the texas it's ten feet above sea level. it's low to begin with. you get a system 20 to 30 inches of rain, some areas up to 40 inches of rain you'll have a tremendous problem. some of the rainfall totals ten inches now. we're protecting 30 inches of rain in victoria, 18 inches in houston. a big, big problem for those folks down there. for us, gorgeous out there. 54 in allentown. 67 in philadelphia. 46 in the poconos. nothing going on. high pressure in control, wall-to-wall blue skies, we'll keep it that way today, a couple

found himself in a dangerous position when he ran into the overhead highway sign with a bucket still raised. it happened in houston, texas. the impact mangled the sign and sent it crashing on to the road. boy that would be scary. the highway was shut down for hours while cruise cleared up the wreckage. >> a terrifying end to a police chase in ohio. the police officer was run over when he tried to stop the burglary suspect. the incident happened last weekend, the police released the dash cam video. during the chase, speeds reach up to 100 miles per hour, but at one point the suspect's truck spun out, that's when the deputy ran toward the truck with the gun drawn. the truck sped up pinning the deputy to the ground. police arrested the suspect who they said was incoherent.

hurricane harvey made landfall around 11:00 p.m. as a category four storm at rock port. it had wind gusts up to 140 miles per hour. huge storm. the problem with the system it's moving to the northwest, extremely slowly. only 6 miles per hour so it's crawling essential. right now situated 135 miles per hour southwest of houston, there's the center of circulation drifting off to the northwest. because there's no steering flow aloft the storm will sit here and spin for the next several days. some areas could pick up to 20 to 30 inches of rain with isolated heavier amounts up to 40 inches of rain. we'll give you an prospective of how much water there is, some areas could see an year's worth of rain from this storm. we see the cloud tops spike as

president donald trump who will visit the area next week has assigned a disaster declaration for the state of texas. >> delaware valley will see a low impact from hurricane harvey most affecting travelers, airlines grounded 200 flights across the country this weekend. many waiving rebooking fees as they cramp to get out of tax tax. if you're heading to the airport this weekend make sure you check the airline website before you leave home. hurricane harvey is having an huge impact petroleum production these dots on the map represent refineries along the gulf coast. texas gulf coast is home to one-third of the united states oil production. >> production sites they want to get back online as quickly as possible, but, again, we don't

in from fulton, texas a chair and other debris flying in the wind there. you see the rain and wind whipping around properties, of course, decimated. there was a warning damage could happen. you can barely see the backgrounds of this video. you can see the chair whipping across the screen. thankfully no deaths so far have been reported. this is early, unfortunately we'll see damage like this as we begin to see daylight.

our affiliate. governor activating 100 members of national guard and pleading with residents who didn't evacuate to have a plan. >> they need to prepare to be without power and inadequate access to food and supplies for a couple of days. >> reporter: now, just in the last hour or so, we got word that a possible tornadoes touched down southwest of where i'm standing in houston, suburb of missouri city. assessing damage with emergency officials we know that a roof may have collapsed in that neighborhood. down about four hours south us near corpus christi emergency officials say a lot of damage there, still dark outside, it will take a while to see what happened. north of there in rock port hours away from houston, senior living philadelphia roof collapsed on residents.

what it did it knocked all the humidity out, it left us with a nice refreshing fall-like feel across the mid atlantic and the northeast. this is high pressure here it will grip the area over the next two days. today 79 degrees is the forecasted high, with the light breeze out of the north/northeast. jersey shore, high temperatures in the mid 70s. sunny and nice, 76 in beach haven. cape may, 77. close to 80 degrees for the delaware beaches. now, there's no risk for rip currents today or at least i should say there's a low risk for rip currents. it's on the low side today. this will increase monday and tuesday and go to moderate and maybe high as we head into tuesday afternoon. now, let's focus on hurricane harvey for that this is storm tracker 6 live we set it in motion, west of rock port it's moving over victoria, you can see the outer edges, the feeder
