and destruction. two dozen vehicles damaged in northeast philadelphia. a look at how this happened. sky6 live hd taking a live look at the philadelphia international airport. it's been a beautiful weekend, the question becomes how long will this nice weather last. back outside we go to meteorologist chris sowers with a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast and the answer, we're in the 70s, for how long, chris? >> reporter: at least for the next several days, and we'll warm up by the middle and latter portion of the workweek. we have several locations in the 60s, here we are the end of august, the dog days of august, it is 65 in slatington. unbelievable. 65 in kutztown, lake harmony was down to 44. 64 now. 77 in center city. media, 72. glassboro, 74. smyrna, 77. tuckahoe, 74. hammonton, 75.

satellite and radar feels like a late september day. we have a thin cloud deck upstairs that's preventing the sun from blasting us. it's cool. you can see cloud cover to the west, a lot of that will fizzle out over the next few hours. the remainder of the day, accuweather says sunny skies, nice and pleasant, 78 degrees by 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m., 79 you can see the numbers drifting back down into the evening hours, 8:00 p.m., 74 and 10:00 p.m., 72. let's look at tropical storm harvey, as of 10:00 a.m. we see 45-mile an hour winds it's barely holding on to tropical storm strength. as we've been talking about all morning long, really the big story with the storm is the heavy torrential rains that continue to fall near the galveston and houston areas. southeastern texas has picked up one to two feet of rain and

expecting additional one to two feet of rain. tremendous problems in the gulf of mexico. when i come back i'll have the latest stats and track of tropical storm harvey and our beautiful seven day coming up. >> it's a flooding emergency in the south of texas. we've seen they say images this comes as tropical storm harvey once a category ii hurricane continues. the historic flooding submerged roads and cars and homes and rescuers are trying to save those trapped by the rising water. this is where some of the rescues are taking place right now. as tropical storm harvey continues to churn over texas. we have a look at the dangerous situation. >> reporter: southeast texas underwater manholes overflowing streets turned into lakes nearly

impossible to drive through. the city's mayor urging residents to stay home. >> the streets are treacherous. it makes absolutely no sense for anyone to be out on the roads, unless it's an emergency. >> reporter: these people rescued from an apartment complex. >> how many we got coming? >> reporter: the storm packing a punch. >> i can't believe this is happening and i have no apartment my apartment was decimated. >> reporter: rockport where harvey came ashore, a mangled ghost town roofs ripped off homes an buildings and boats destroyed. >> the wind was i don't know, 100-plus, 130, 140. there was a couple of times it was going faster than that. >> reporter: in austin, the state capital under a cloud of darkness and underwater. shelter also set up for those in need. texas governor greg abbott

lending a hand. we'll take care of our fellow texans, but we do it as a team. >> reporter: 300,000 people don't have power. we have received 24 inches of rain in the city of houston and we expect to receive 2 feet more of rain. from houston, natasha barrett, abc news. >> president trump is being advised on tropical storm harvey. he held a meeting to discuss flooding and emergency response and power outages. president trump tweeted he will not go to texas until the conditions are safe and the travel will not affect recovery efforts. great coordination from all agencies at all levels of government. he added many people are saying this is the worst storm

hurricane they have ever seen. good news that we have great talent on the ground. among those on the ground in texas, volunteers from across the country including right here in pennsylvania. 40 members of the pennsylvania urban search and rescue team began their journey to texas last night. the team consists of 20 philadelphia firefighters and 20 others from various departments across the state. the highly trained search and rescue members are driving tractor-trailers and trucks loaded with water and also rescue equipment. their plan is to help local texas fire crews search homes and buildings for missing residents. more team members are on standby if they are needed. >> all the equipment will go, if they move us up to a type one we'll put 40 more members on planes and fly them down to where they will be working. >> crews are bringing along especially trained search and rescue dogs and their handlers.

the trip to the navel air station in fort worth texas will take 22 hours. residents in northeast philadelphia and oxford circle are left cleaning up the damage after police say a drunk driver slammed into more than two dozen vehicles last night. "action news" reporter, jeff chirico live with a look at where the damage took place and reaction from those dealing with this unexpected situation, jeff. >> reporter: hey, gray, we're on the 6900 block of kindred street one of the four blocks people have waken up to assess the damage. an out-of-control driver went on an destructive rampage while they were sleeping, part of it was caught on camera. this woman woke up to this damage to her suv one of 27 cars on four city blocks struck by a

suspected drunk driver, ten on the 6900 block of kindred street. >> we walk out to our car and the driver smoke everywhere was coming, he turned we almost got hit by it. >> reporter: a neighbor surveillance camera caught video of the incident around 3:00 a.m., an suv hit the parked vehicle in the upper left corner of your screen and catches fire. >> his car would only drive sideways, he hit every car on both sides of the street. video shows several cars following the suspects, they were the cars he hit on another street. >> cars were chasing him while he was going sideways down the block. when he turned into the other driveway, he took off then. >> police caught the suspect several blocks away and towed his destroyed suv. meanwhile, residents are left picking up the pieces. >> i was about to get dressed for church this morning, i guess i'll be calling the insurance company. >> nobody got physically hurt

or ran over or hit, but i'm glad they did catch him. >> and these are some of the skidmarks left behind after the car caught fire. 38-year-old man was apprehended he is facing a long list of charges including driving under the influence. reporting live this noon in northeast philadelphia, channel 6 "action news." i can't figure out what time it is. >> thanks for the update. it was a close call for first responders in west philadelphia. they were caught in the crossfire and a stray bullet hit their ambulance with a patient inside. a stray bullet pierced the ambulance with a paramedic and patient in the back. the 26-year-old victim who was shot is in stable condition.

the first responders and their patient they were not injured, the story could have had a different ending. >> if the attendant was in there, they would have been missed by mere inches. >> thank goodness they are okay. the first responders went back to work after the incident. this morning police are looking for the shooter. a 3 day 60-mile journey to raise money for breast cancer comes to an end this afternoon. 600 susan b. komen participants are in the final stretch. they raised $1 million. they will wrap up today at the navy yard. walkers are expected to arrive at the closing ceremony at 3:00 p.m. >> there's much more to come right here on "action news" on a sunday after, we'll continue to

we continue to follow developing news coming from texas where tropical stammer -- storm harvey continues along the coast. this is a live picture, you can see the water standings there along the tree line there, chris sowers has been tracking this

for you all weekend long, of course he has been saying wind not a factor it's the rain that's the problem. >> reporter: the wind was immediate factor when the storm made landfall. once it moved over land, everything weakened. it will continue to rain for the next four or five days. we're seeing rainfall rates up to 2 to 3-inches an hour. with a system not moving you're seeing that rainfall rates you get the idea. it's going on to be devastating for southeastern texas. >> reporter: we're talking about much nicer weather here across the delaware and lehigh valleys. here's a live shot. it's a gorgeous day, mostly sunny conditions high, thin clouds upstairs, filtered sunshine it feels very, very nice. the headlines this afternoon looks like, we expect it to remain comfortably cool over the next several days. tuesday's high 72, 73 so really nice stuff. we're watching a southern storm

that's moving off the coast of florida, where is that going over the next few days, i'll have that in a moment. it could produce rip currents for the delaware and jersey shore. harvey is continuing to hit texas. this is the water vapor shot the outer banks of the carolinas, charleston, south carolina and jacksonville. it's this cluster, a broad area of low pressure, the national hurricane center says it will drift to the north, approximately, 200 miles to the south of atlantic city, or 250 miles south of the atlantic city by tuesday. the question will it drift farther to the north an bring rains into our neck of the woods. right now it's a close call, but we feel there's a cold front approaching in from the west that will knock it out to sea and spare the area from heavier rains. we'll see see you how that plays

to sit and spin over the next three to five days. that means areas that are seeing the heavy rains right now will see the heavy rains wednesday, thursday, and maybe friday. this takes us through friday morning as opposed to storm is east of dallas, texas that's good five to six days and we're talking about tremendous amounts of rain. what to expect over the next week or so, very little movement from harvey, that means heavy drenching downpours. some areas have picked up two feet of rain. we're expecting an additional one to two feet. grand total over 40 inches. they are looking at catastrophic flooding conditions especially since the area is so low to begin with, it's 5 to 10 feet above sea level. it's nice for us back home, sunny, 79 today. increasing clouds, 77 monday. there's tuesday cool highs

around 73. >> thank you for the update. water rescues are underway in texas as residents try to make their way to drier land. flooding is a major concern in the houston metro area as harvey continues to pummel the southeastern part of the great state of texas. emily schmidt is live in texas with harvey left its mark. >> reporter: the rain has not stopped falling in the entire region. we had a gentleman who lives downer the street who evacuated and came back, his concern is about water behind me, beyond the flood water is the river, the river right now is at moderate stage flood, they think it could go to major by tuesday, if the rain keeps falling as

they think, water could be up here that's the most water the river has ever seen. that's what's happening here, even worse in houston, harvey won't go away. >> reporter: hundreds of rescues and harrowing scenes around houston as floodwaters rise from corpus christi up to through houston, the hard -- havoc of harvey ask not over. >> most major theory -- thoroughfares are impassable. >> reporter: a second pass of search and rescue took place monday morning another day to assess and comprehend the damage. >> you see people work their lives to build something and in one night it's and gone. >> reporter: as harvey dumps more rain over the middle and upper texas coast maybe 40 inches in some areas, residents fear the worst.

>> it looks like an apocalypse, this seems like it might be close to katrina. >> reporter: texas governor said he received offers of help from all around the county. >> we've received assistance from new york, florida, arizona this is something where everybody from the united states is pitching in to help out. >> reporter: the federal government is eyeing a long recovery. >> fema is going to be there for years. this disaster is going to be a landmark event. >> reporter: so many layers of trouble from trees in the yard to people in victoria who don't have power and boiled water at advisory, when the mayor spoke a few minutes ago, the mayor said if it is not life threatening do not call 911. it's not good to have water in your house, but if it is not bad

? ten days after terror attacks in spain killed 15 people, the number of deaths continue to rise, a woman died from the injuries she received when a man drove a car into a crowd. a man was stabbed and killed in a carjacking as a van driver made his getaway. a woman died a day later in another attack. 120 people were injured, 20 more in the hospital, five in critical condition. london police arrested a

second man in connection with a terror incident. it happened near buckingham palace. friday officers arrested a 26-year-old man after he approached a police van and reaped for a sword and shouted allahu akbar. which means god is great. another man was detained on suspicion of terrorism. no members of the royal family were in the palace at the time. this is another live look in texas, dickenson texas where tropical storm harvey continues to drop inches of rain along the coast. you can see the flooding in the area. some areas have seen more than 20 inches of rain in 24 hours. we'll have the latest on the storm and the damage it is causing right here on "action news." >> so glad you stayed with us,

follow the devastation of tropical storm harvey, we've learned two people are dead as the storm surged inland. although the winds have died down, the rain continues to pummel the texas coast. not good news for the folks of texas. it's expected to drop 35 inches of rain on the lonestar state. this is in dickenson, texas. looks like a lake rather than a street there. you can see boats in the water. rescue efforts are underway right now. the boats are in the middle of a street. where the rain has paused, residents are now surveying the destruction, in some areas, homes have been wiped out. rose of rvs flipped on their side, power poles down with live waters. we go to houston texas with the latest on conditions and a warning from a lawmaker. >> reporter: overnight the situation in houston getting

dire. some of the youngest victims of the floodwaters rescued by boats. torrential rain battering america's 4th largest city. a local police chief live streaming throughout the night. >> anybody up there wants to go, you guys okay? >> reporter: officials rescuing more than 1,000 residents. >> any kids? two kids, all right, you got the baby? >> reporter: but unable to get to everyone. >> breaks your heart for our city and state. >> reporter: some residents wading through waist high waters getting to safety. 20 inches of rainfall in some areas. >> let me tell you it is dropping a lot of water and the streets are treacherous. >> reporter: cars submerged, officials telling people to stay inside and off the roads. >> it makes no sense for anyone to be out on the roads, unless it's an emergency. >> more than seven inches of rain falling for hours, houston

home to 2 million people facing historic flooding. >> there's the potential for very dramatic flooding. >> reporter: the area could get another foot of rain by the end of the day. >> of course our coverage continues with meteorologist chris sowers who has an update on the rainfall totals. chris is there any idea how long the rain will stick around? >> reporter: they are thinking it could last another 3 are to 4 days. the rain you see behind me is falling within a 36 hour time frame. we expect the rain to continue through wednesday. there are signs things will ease up a little bit by thursday and friday. a lot of these locations surrounding suburbs of the houston area. take a look at this, through 11:00 a.m., league city 2 feet of rain. clear creek up to 27 1/2 inch. passpasadena, closing in on 20 inches of rain. berry bayou, more than 2 feet.

and hunting bayou, 19 inches. the center of rain is off victoria it's drifting one to two miles per hour off to the southeast. empty meantime these feeder bands continue to come off the warm water of the gulf of mexico. the atmosphere is juiced from bottom to top hear, all the moisture continues to dump on houston and galveston and waco and will you please -- lupton future tracker 6 tells the story this lane will sit and spin and spin and spin, we get into monday afternoon. same thing it's still pouring over the galveston/hiews ton area. -- houston area. tuesday afternoon it's raining heavily in the galveston houston area. rainfall total on top of the two-plus feet expect to be an additional one to two feet. these are harvey rains through wednesday, additional two feet

[chatter] >> reporter: volunteers are fielding hundreds of calls from texas as the storm pummels the state. >> you're helping people on the the worst day of their lives and talking to people on the worst day of their lives. people are calling in in tears and freaking out. >> reporter: in addition to the call center, the american red cross of eastern pennsylvania has sent two volunteers to texas we spoke to one of them on the phone. >> it makes you feel good when you see how you're helping these

people and it makes you realize how lucky we are up there, none of the storms have hit us like other areas of the county. >> reporter: fred is preparing emergency response vehicles when the storm dies down he'll head to corpus christi. >> we'll have kitchens around there, that's when our vehicles will start to feed people and we make sure that they are running and nothing happens all the safety items are working on it, you don't want anybody to get hurt. >> reporter: a way for folks here at home to help, donating blood. >> people who give the blood in our community we'll get that blood to texas. >> reporter: other organizations are ready to help, too, spca says it has sheltered animals from disasters before and could be called upon again to help animals who need shelter. red cross of new jersey have 12

all. let's show you mean the video of the neighbor's surveillance camera it catches part of the incident, in fact the tail end of the incident. the suspected drunk driver's rampage happened at 3:00 a.m. it hit the car and then the driver's car burst into flames while the driver kept going another half block before ditching the vehicle and running. witnesses say he was being chased by cars he had hit earlier in the rampage. >> the cars were chasing him while he was going skyed ways down the block, when he turned into the other driveway, he took off then, because the cops started looking for him in the driveway. and there was nobody in the truck norm. >> norm -- no more. >> i'm glad nobody got hurt or hit, and they did catch him. you can replace material stuff, but a life you can't replace. >> many folks are calling their insurance companies to file a

claim today, 27 vehicles in all are damaged. police arrested a 38-year-old man charged him with a number of offenses including driving under the influence. jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." >> okay, thank you for the update. happening now at noon, 38-year-old man is in critical condition after he was hit by a car overnight in north philadelphia. police say the man was crossing the 2100 block of north broad street when he was struck. he was taken to temple hospital with two fractured legs and head injury. the driver of the striking vehicle stopped and is cooperating with police no word about any charges. community members in ambler, montgomery county came together to support a church's antihate message visitors packed the church to show their support. church members say they have received messages online threatening to burn the churn you church down.

police have been made aware of the situation. beginning tomorrow, it will kohl's you more money to buy wine and spirits at pennsylvania state owned liquor stores, prices are going up on 422 items, 393 of them will cost a dollar more. stores can continue, however to run sales and discounts. liquor lobbying groups are not happy with the price increase. pennsylvania restaurant and lodging association said the move is one more reason for pennsylvanians to go shopping in delaware and new jersey. super heros and their youngest fans are hanging out at the please touch museum in fairmont park this weekend from comic books to the big screen to philadelphia. super heros met with their fans and took part in theme story time and whole lot more. batman, spiderman and wonder woman and a hole lot more. >> there's much more to come on

now. allentown, 73. philadelphia, # 7. dover, 75. cape may, 75 degrees. with dewpoints in the 50s anything less than 60 is nice and comfortable. it will stay that way through wednesday afternoon. the humidity starts to increase a little bit by thursday and friday, even though we're not talking about anything too terrible for the delaware and lehigh valleys. there it is high, thin clouds over the tri state here, nothing too dense or thick just a couple of thin wispy clouds as high pressure skirts off the eastern seaboard. mostly sunny, and pleasant, 79 degrees. a nice gentle breeze out of the northeast at 5 to 10 miles per hour. once the sun sets the numbers will drop off dramatically. jersey shore, same kind of idea. mostly sunny skies, high, thin clouds, nice day overall, low humidity levels, 76 degrees, ocean temperature, warm as the air temperature, 74. tropical storm harvey beginning to lose it's features here.

the center of the circulation is northwest of victoria texas. heavy rain for houston and louisiana. lake charles rainfall rates 3 to 4 inches an hour. maximum stained wind 45 miles per hour. look at the satellite and radar shot here, all the yellows and oranges and reds a tremendous moon of the rain. we have a tornado watch box up for the coast, galveston is included in that. lake charles on the edge there. these bands will filter in over the same areas until the center starts to pull away. some of the latest forecast guidance suggests it will not pull away until thursday or friday. we'll see on and off periods of tremendous rain over the next several times e several days. moving off to the south/southeast 2 miles per hour. this is taking us through friday, the storm is still over southeastern texas. this area here is just going to

see historic flooding, some areas could see over 40 inches of rain when all is said and done. there's forecast models out there that show 50 inches of rain affirm big beating, a pounding for those folks down there. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast it's nice and quiet for us in the mid atlantic. mostly sunny, 79 degrees, increasing clouds tomorrow, 77. as we head into tuesday, the southern system i showed you earlier in the broadcast it will pull away from the florida and move up the eastern seaboard and bring breezes to the area and high of 73. there could showers around for south jersey and the jersey shore, delaware beaches are included in that. north and west of philadelphia. you'll stay dry. wednesday, clouds and sun, 79. 82 for thursday, that's prefrontal, cold front pulls through late in the day, that drops the terms back down friday and saturday, could be a late-day shower or thunderstorm. no i do not see any 90s for
