"action news" anchor brian taff joins us live from naples, florida, where he rode out the dangerous storm over the weekend. brian, good afternoon. >> reporter: hi, rick, good afternoon. we are pleased to come to you from what is a sunny southwest florida this afternoon. the difference between right now and what we experienced
12:03 pm
this time yesterday could not be more extreme quite frankly and extra. is the right word to describe what southwest florida naples in particular has endured since yesterday. this is the building that gave us so much heartburn yesterday our hotel not far from here and you can see that all these car ports have been torn apart. the roof of this building a largely gone and the upper floor, the condos up there we're told by the residents of this building taking on water even now as the pools of puddles that irma dropped are still seeping inside those upper level apartments. look at the force. these winds enough to tear apart these car ports and twist this metal bend metal over cars. if something doesn't describe the fours are is -- ferocity i don't know what will. most people heeded the advice to get out of dodge but we did

12:05 pm
we only saw a little bit of damage to roofs. most of the damage we saw frankly was from trees that could not sustain and toppled over, some of them going on top of roofs and cars and blocking roadways. the big story here today is the lack of resources. there is no power anywhere across southern florida and maybe worse than that for now, there is no running water. you can't shave, you can't shower, you can't drink the water. there's still a boil water advisory in effect. we're told from florida power and light they'll have to rebuild the entire electrical grid at least on the western side of florida and it could be the longest rebuilding and recovery process from an electric restoration standpoint in american history. that is not good news for the people who live here. other than that, it largely is good news in their structures, their homes are still standing. live in naples this afternoon, brian taff channel6 "action news." rick. >> all right, brian, thank you for that report. and of course we continues continue to track the effects of irma.

12:07 pm
at 75 miles per hour. there will be less wind damage from here on out but we're still looking at heavy bands of rain, so flooding still possible in these northern areas but the storm is now affecting a few tornadoes can't be ruled out especially over on the east side of the center of the storm. and we are expecting continued weakening through the rest of the day. we're also keeping an eye on josé, that other hurricane in the northern caribbean. that one is going to be mee anding -- meandering for awhile. you can see clouds, the first bands coming up what's left off of irma but we're not going to have to wore about that that much today. that will be more of an issue tomorrow as high clouds streak in. this afternoon looks pretty good. by noon 72, by 3 o'clock 78 degrees, a few high clouds around. it is going to be on the warm side this afternoon. we'll have more on irma's effect on us the rest of your seven day and the much more on josé the next storm we have to keep an eye on, that's coming up in the seven day. >> all right, david, we'll check back in later. thank you. new information this noon
