unrestrained. five officers face internal disciplinary trials set to begin next month. we learn nor about a college student and promising athlete found dead outside of his college dormitory. walter perez is live with the investigation. >> reporter: an autopsy is scheduled tomorrow and toxicology tests are pending still a lot of questions surrounding the death of a promising student athlete. funeral arrangements are made for 19-year-old mccray williams a talented lacrosse player playing for lafayette college. we lost a player at lafayette but the facts are not out yet. >> but that williams death was the end of a chain of events that ended with a medical emergency.

they were called to the dormitory where they found williams unconscious and pronounced dead three hours later at lehigh valley hospital with his parents nearby. >> they released a statement. losing a student is a heart breaking start to the year and that the support of the community will be help to all during this very sad time. we spoke to students here ala if a yet. they are shocked and saddened. >> we lost a member of our community. >> it's awful for everyone involved and not involved but as a community we rally together. >> mccray williams is remembered as a standout student athlete from a boarding school in massachusetts. the autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow but determining the cause of death will do little to relieve the pain of such a senseless loss. >> a great opportunity to do well. and skills with lacrosse, a good student from what i know about

him. and we want to answer questions for his family eventually but we can't answer them today. >> officials from the victim's high school released a statement indicating that he died of a severe head injury but nobody handling the investigation would confirm that information. we expect to learn more about this case over the next few days. walter perez, channel 6 "action news." >> now to the latest on the cleanup after hurricane irma. as crews begin to restore power to parts of florida battered by the storm the death toll continues to climb. tonight 12 people are confirmed dead in the u.s. as a result of irma and people are still without power. but crews in florida have a long way to go. 25% of homes in the florida keys where irma made landfall in the u.s. are destroyed.

meantime what is left of irma makes its way north tonight and that could mean wet weather for our area. meteorologist, cecily tynan, live in the weather center with the latest. >> a big increase in humidity. you'll really feel the difference in the air mass the next several days. look at this radar, irma is now just a rain storm. losing all of its tropical characteristics. and it's moving into the tennessee valley and a wide area of rain, there is moisture trying to move in here but this is really virga it's evaporating. and it will take time to squeeze out some showers but that happens overnight on and off over the next couple of days. this is what to expect over the next few days. more clouds than sunshine with scattered showers perhaps a thunderstorm, especially on thursday. rainfall most areas not a lot. about a .25 to .50 inch. areas with a thunderstorm could get more than an inch of rain.

died at temple university hospital. the shooter got away and has not been caught. >> a real sin you cannot walk anywhere in frankford. >> the woman says her ex-boyfriend was assaulted in the same neighborhood recently. >> now, to an update on an unusual story we brought you last night. swarms of flying insects were seen in large groups around the region today. so what exactly are they? "action news" reporter sara bloomquist spoke with local researchers to get some answers. she is live in washington square tonight. >> reporter: rick, did you see them last night? i did. about 6:15, 6:30, there were swarms of these insects everywhere. this lit up on social media people asking what are these things and where did they come from? what is going on? we turn to some local insect experts for an explanation.

it was an insect invasion, this is what it looked like when swarms of insects took to the skies yesterday evening. this is from medford, new jersey and they were in philadelphia. >> i was standing next to my friend and there were bugs in her hair and all over our front porch. >> the insect event went wild on social media people were mosting pictures like this. philadelphia police tweeted by insect overlords. these were not flies. >> they are flying ants. >> from the academy of natural scientists. she collected samples last night. >> they are not going to bite you they are minding their own business and they will be gone soon. >> director john cambridge runs the butterfly pavilion, we think

time now for the accuweather forecast for the evening. cecily tynan is here with big changes. >> we have unsettled weather on the way. lets head to the weather center showing philly phanatic some love because the phillies are back in found for a week with the marlins and the weather is looking nice tonight. we see clouds thicken and temperatures not dropping much. not compared to the past several nights. 76 at 7:00 and by 10:0070 degrees and winds are light out of the southwest at 2 miles per hour. we do have some moisture from irma that is trying to move our way and with it we have an increase in dew points and temperatures a bit. right now philadelphia 78 degrees and yesterday's high 76. and feels more like summer and reading 80 and wilmington 75. satellite 6 along with action radar showing what is left of irma just a rain storm.

it lost all tropical characteristics. we are getting feeder bands getting close to us. the clouds thicken and gets more humid and we have showers developing overnight in the wee hours of the morning at 3:00 or so. temperatures the past several nights in the 60s. allentown dropping to 59 degrees and philadelphia 65 and cape may 64 and wilmington 62. future tracker 6 showing tomorrow morning lots of clouds and we have showers developing especially west of philadelphia right in time for the morning compute. but it doesn't rain all day. as we head into the afternoon a break in the action and more moisture moves in on thursday as we get the low pressure moving over us. in the meantime, hurricane jose is a mess of a storm. it has weakened. maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour. the problem with jose is we have the risk of rip current as long the east coast right through the week and weekend into next week.

the spaghetti plot showing a consensus that this storm will head back out to sea between the u.s. and bermuda. something we are still tracking but it looks like a hit in the u.s. is unlikely with jose, finally good news from the tropics. the five-day at 5:00, tomorrow humid with more clouds than sunshine, a few showers especially in the morning. again, not all day rain. 77 degrees, thursday 80 degrees with a shower or thunderstorm. friday again still a little bit unsettled. a chance of showers and otherwise clouds and sun and a muggy day and 81 degree, the weekend is warm and muggy and showers are very limited. most of the weekend will be rain free. 82 degrees on saturday. and sunday partly sunny and high of 83. we cool things off in the seven-day forecast. >> all right thank you cecily. quick break and more news after this.

county that storm fired at least 10 gunshots into the mobile home park. people were in the office there and several other bullets when into mobile homes and towards a bus stop where children were standing and a man rushed in and tried to grab the gun and police tackled him and he lived in the mobile home park and was upset because of a maintenanceance request denied. and now an advocate from mothers to protect victims from gun violence. moms demand action for gun sense in america. that is what they are known as. they are encouraging lawmakers to pass senate bill 501, require all domestic abusers subject to final protection from abuse orders to sounder their guns and shorten the 60 day period that the offenders have to sounder their guns to 24 hours.

you come south on 676. crash on the blue route at villanova and broomall has cleared. the accidents are clearing but the delays have work to do to thin out. this is the blue route at norristown a slow pace near villanova on the southbound side of 476. this one is gone too, pennsylvania turnpike past fort washington, the delays are not. coming west of willow grove and farther west a mile past downingtown the overturned vehicle here. this is a big deal right lane is blocked and single digit speeds west of valley forge and use the detour, 202 southbound to 100 northbound and for the most part you'll miss the single digit speeds. in wilmington we are watching a crash on centerville road. and a water maybe break has holly drummond road partially

we are learning more about the pilot hurt in this small plane crash caught on camera in connecticut. the plane veered off the runway and came down in a parking lot after hitting a tree. the pilot suffered minor injuries and he says he was flying to a breakfast and it was registered to a flight school. and no one on the ground was hurt. but the tree actually buffeted
