spend another day without power in the wake of hurricane irma. and we are following the investigation in philadelphia after a man was struck and killed by a septa train. but the big story on "action news" at noon, is a somber farewell to a father gunned down in front of his daughter in spring garden. thousands turned out for gerard grandzell's funeral. we are live outside of the service. >> reporter: rick, this is a story, a tragedy that has struck a lot of people. this man was loved by many. this cathedral holds 2,000 people and we are told it was standing room only. >> nearly two hours before the 10:30 funeral. hundreds of people form aid line that led into the cathedral

basilica. known as jerry to loved ones, he was gunned down in front of his home, in a carjacking. he was protecting his daughter in the backseat. >> she called and said he was shot in the face and rushed to hahnemann, and ten minutes later shared he had passed. >> this morning friends and family held each other and some wept and some seemed overcome with shock after the tragic and abrupt end to a violent life. but many chose to celebrate a life well lived. >> i don't like to look at anything in the negative and i like to look at such a tragedy as being seen for the future of the community. they will remember and respect a dedicated family man and his involvement in the goodness of life. >> jerry was a family man overjoyed with the loves of his

life. his wife and two young daughters one of them born two months ago. the neighborhood handyman and an avid hockey player. >> he was always a happy guy and showed up with a cup of coffee and wired to play and sing almost through the entire session and drive us crazy but we are miss hearing his voice. >> it's hard to deal with the impact of a life loss this cathedral filled to capacity fills the void left behind. >> he was not just a colleague but like a brother and he was just so fun and made every day fun. and worked hard and was just a great human being all around. we are all sad today. >> reporter: you can hear the bag pipes going here in the background faintly. the funeral just wrapped up. the family is saying in lieu of

flowers they are accepting donations to their memorial fund. you can find that on our website at 6abc.com. jeanette reyes, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. septa is investigating after a man was struck and killed by a strain this morning in philadelphia. it happened before 8:00 right here on the 2200 block of bridge street in bridesburg. the man was hit by a trenton line train heading to center city. it's unclear why he was on the tracks after some delays, service is getting back to normal. >> the search is on for a person that opened fire in large daylight. the shooting brought a large number of police officers to north philadelphia at 15th and poplar where a large agoment broke out on the sidewalk this morning. they believe the person walked out of the nearby townhome and got involved in the fight and shot a man in the leg. all right, turning to the

accuweather forecast. which includes more occasional rain showers over et next few days for us. the rain is connected to the remnants of hurricane irma. keep your umbrella close by. looking live a dreary scene right now as we view the center city skyline. meteorologist, david murphy, is tracking the latest conditions in the weather center and as more. >> we have some precipitation popping through the region right now. sunshine earlier and now the clouds are thicker, if we bring in stormtracker 6 live double scan we'll go ahead and take a look at some of that precipitation. and you can see that it is sort of a line of it coming through the middle of the region right now. heavy rain in the leading edge of this too popping through the northern suburbs and let take a closer look that heavy stuff highlighted in yellow and orange is moving its way to the northeast and pretty much headed towards doylestown and quakertown. it will not take all that long to passover that area.

if it starts in your neighborhood. give it a few minutes and you'll taper off to this spotty precipitation and then it passes you and a shower to the south in places like millville and cape may picking up a little bit of that as well owe he after we gets band of shower activity through there could be more that pops in but generally speaking we are looking at less and less precipitation into the later afternoon and evening hours. 68 in philadelphia and 72 in allentown un71 in dover, as we go through the afternoon once that rain stops, the temperatures which are dipping into the 60s as the rain comes through will have a tendency to bounce back up. and we have a shot at 76, 77 for a high at 2:00. it stays cloudy and sock we dip down to 70 and we don't go much below that. and dew points pop up to the mid-60s in philadelphia and more humid than yesterday.

it looks like the humid pattern continues with more spotty showers towards the weekend. the seven day from accuweather has the details. >> the problems are piling up in storm ravaged florida. in the extreme heat and may be to blame for the death of six patients at a nursing home. molly hunter is live in naples florida with more on the recovery efforts across the state. >> reporter: that is right. we are in naples look at this tree, the massive tree on the condo building. look at the roots tearing up the sidewalk for those that can return home this is what they are finding. >> for the first time the residents of florida keys headed back to see what is left of their florida home. down the south dixie highway passing police check points to this tiny island where 90% of homes are destroyed or damaged.

>> we didn't know if you were going to make it or not. >> the national guard surveying from the air whole neighborhoods obliterated. houses completely flattened. the keys is 112 miles long but reads only allowed into the first 33 miles. >> a deadly situation at this nursing home in hollywood, florida. at least five people have died. >> it may be related to the loss of power in the storm. a sad event. >> millions still have no power and some no running water. >> no power, no nothing. no internet, no tv, no bath. repair crews from 30 states in canada working around the clock we see them all hours in naples. and restoration workers now numbers 20,000 is hard at work. but there is serious danger for people relying on generators.

here 20 people were taken to the hospital for possible carbon monoxide poisoning. and in orlando a generator in a garage killed three members of a family and four others are still in the hospital. >> now, it is unbearably hot and sticky in september in florida. nearly 4 million customers are still without power statewide. if you use a generator run a fan or anything to keep your house cool. you must put that generator outside of the house to stay safe. >> thank you molly. >> a star studded telethon raised more than $44 million for the hurricane victims last night. a number of a-list celebritied took part in the hand if hand benefit. the donations help victims of both irma and harvey. >> and police are looking for the person that fire aid gun into delaware county home. it was on the 1200 block of wild

avenue. one person in the house was taken to the hospital and it's unclear if the person was hit by gun fire or flying debris. upper darby police are working to identify a suspect. a new piece of artwork went up in center city near the frank rizzo statue. it's a statue of an afro pick with a wrench on the other end. it's all power to all people. the artist says the pick was place there had to highlight community and resistance to oppression. katherine scott will have more details in the next half hour. camden county freeholder board hosted a resource today. it was a kickoff to a new program designed to get homeless men and women back on their feet. it brings together various services including mental health

and addiction treatment. on any given day there is 500 to 600 people living on the street in camden county. coming up an 83-year-old grandfather stepped in to help police stop a man on the run in los angeles. and meteorologist, david murphy, has your seven-day forecast when "action news" comes right back. this is me

two rival health care bills are unveiled in washington. senator bernie sanders just outlined his proposal for revamping the current system into one where the government provides medical service for everyone and on the republican side they are rolling out the last ditch efforts to repeal and replace the current law. both are expected to fail. and congress is pushing president trump to take a stand against hate groups. lawmakers approved a resolution condemning the violence in virginia along with white nationalists and the kkk and asked trump to use all resources to unveil threats by those groups. he has 10 days to sign or veto the measure before it becomes law.

>> a large fire destroyed a tampa, florida, elementary school after they fixed a power outage from hurricane irma. the flames broke out at 6:30 last night and eventually part of the roof collapsed. they are not sure if the blaze is related to the restoration in the neighborhood. the school was closed this week because of the hurricane. three teenagers are in custody after a shooting inside of a crowded boston common, the 15-year-old was found near the bandstand with life-threatening injuries and prompted the lock down of a nearby train station and students were told to shelter in place. boston common is typically filled with people during the evening. the victim appears to have been targeted . an 83-year-old grandfather stepped in and solved a problem that police could not by pushing a suspect off the roof. here is the moment it happened. the suspect was hopping from roof to roof forcing police to surround the neighborhood to try to catch him.

but 83-year-old willford burges had enough and he climbed on his roof and pushed the suspect off. >> don't come in my house because i'm going to load up. >> are you packing? >> well, i'm packing my house. >> after it was all over a local police captain tweeted out the grandpa did what we could not. >> still to come on "action news" experts are trying to set the record straight on a new study involving the pregnant women and the flu vaccine.

health check this noon. the federal government is trying to reassure mothers that may be alarmed by a puzzling new study. they find that women that have mischarges by 2010 and 2012 were given back to back flu shots that gave protection against the swine flu and it reflects the older age of the women in the study and not the risks of the flu shot. the flu itself is a much bigger danger and don't want women to stop getting vaccinated and they warned doctors to help prepare for a potential wave of concern. past studies found that the flu vaccine is safe for pregnancy. as the bank account dwindles, the lawmakers hit a

wall on the budget plan and delayed preliminary votes on mesh tours to plug the $2 billion gap and put an end to the impasse. the main bank account is scheduled to hit zero on friday. and they may not receive medicaid payments on time unless lawmakers act. new apple devices hit stores this fall including the highly anticipated iphone 10, doubling the cost of the original iphone ten years ago and the company revealed a more expensive 8 and larger 8 plus along with a new apple watch model and update to the streaming service. a new car that goes well over 200 miles per hour is going on sale with a $2.7 million price tag. they just unveiled the mercedes

meteorologist, david murphy, is here now you mention irma. giving us a rainy glance? >> that is what we got a brief shower here or there. the main body of showers pushing through and as i take a look at the two dimensional view, we start this up for you and rain is pushing off to the northeast

and crossing the border of montgomery county into bucks county and northern bucks county picking up lighter stuff and north montgomery county 5 to 10 minutes away from starting to try out on the southern end there, that heavier cell is producing heavy rain north of the airport and willow grove and across 611 to slow you down for a bit. the heaviest cell only takes 10 minutes to get past you and pretty soon beyond that you should be drying out. a couple of speckles of precipitation through south jersey and another batch up north heading into allentown. as we take a look outside. sky 6 hd it's cloudy out there. temperatures have reacted with clouds getting thicker and the rain coming through. look now. down to 68 in philadelphia and we had been up into the low 70s. 74. and then the rain came through and we cooled down a bit and winds are calm and ocean

temperature 72 and as we look at the wide range of numbers, you see how the rain goes by and the numbers have a tendency to pop up again and 77 in millville and numbers in the 60s get into the 70s as well. trenton at 76 degrees. it cools down temporarily as the rain comes through. future tracker 6 showing you it looks fairly cloudy and not a lot of additional rain, just a spotty shower here or there. a spotty shower and 75 degrees, and down the shore fairly cloudy and sunny breaks and a spotty shower is still possible and the bulk of the rain is past you and 77 is the high on the beach and 72 in the water and a moderate risk of rip currents, be careful goes into the water. and as we take a look at philadelphia we are going for a high of very likely of about 77 degrees. just like at the shore. and that will probably settle in

over the next several hours before we start to see it drop again. going to try to get this computer to unlock and if we can we'll go to the seven day, if you call up a sky 6 hd that will help out. sky 6 hd showing you that it's cloudy across the region and probably staying that way in most spots with perhaps some rain around. later on. and guy its looks like i am going to stay locked here. your seven day from accuweather is going to show when we get it up -- that 77 degree high and then up around 80 the next few days with thursday and friday, getting muggier and see some spotty showers popping up thursday, friday and saturday and probably sunday. none of those days are a washout. >> thank you david. a nun didn't think twice about helping with the hurricane irma cleanup in florida.
