a.m. pacific time they were arriving for a scheduled late start today. the three injured victims are expected to survive. and no word yet if the suspect is a student or an adult. you can count on "action news" to bring you more information as it becomes available from spokane, washington. we are also following tragedy amid the aftermath of hurricane irma. six nursing home patients have died after spending days in the overheat the facility in florida. and others were rescued from the same building that still has no air conditioning. marcy gonzales is live in naples with what is called a criminal investigation now marcy. >> sharrie, following hurricane irma 3 million people are still without miles per hour and with this. we see what doctors have been warning about for days. that this is not just for days. and the situation could be

life-threatening. sweltering heat and no air conditioni conditioning blamed for at least six deaths in hollywood, florida. rushed to the emergency room across the street. >> the police are not talking to people. they are outside. >> the entire facility evacuated and a criminal investigation now open. police looking into why these senior citizens were not taken to safety sooner. >> we rely on them to care for the most vulnerable population and it's sad when something like this goes on. >> and while they wait for service to be restored. there is more dangers with the disuse of generators. in bermuda springs people were hospitalized including 13 children and a generator going in the garage killed three family members. sad ness and desperation growing in the caribbean hard hit by irma.

>> we don't have food or water or a place to go. and in the keys where 90% of homes were damaged or destroyed. >> i didn't expect to to be this bad. honestly. slowly starting to clean up. >> president trump is traveling here to florida. he plans to meet with the coast guard, fema and first responders when he visits this area tomorrow. channel 6 "action news." >> such a long road ahead. thank you. meantime, evacuations continue in the hard hit caribbean. the state department tells abc news since friday more than 2300 people are evacuated from saint martin the majority of those are american citizens. late today the coast guard released these images of the rescue of 99 people in st. thomas. of that total 12 people are children. additional evacuation flights are set for today in saint martin and tortola in the

ongoing investigation into the death of a student at lafayette cleaning. the medical examiner says that mccray williams dried from blunt force head injuries. walter perez is live with the details. >> reporter: well rick, there is still a lot of work to be done in the case involving the death of mccray williams. now authorities know why he died they want to know why he died and if alcohol may have played a role. >> the lafayette freshman died of blunt trauma to the head according to the lehigh valley coroners office. the manor of death will not be completed until the toxicology tests come back. students came to honor mccray williams being remembered as a standout student and lacrosse player. school officials say that

organizing the vigil was the least they could do. >> to comfortable one another and try to make sense out of something, that at this page and this time of their lives didn't make sense. >> williams was found unconscious outside of a dormitory on sunday afternoon. he was take tonight hospital and pronounced dead approximately 24 hours later with his parents by his side. despite paramedics were called on sunday. they say that mccray williams death was the culmination of events from saturday. >> some incident took place that possibly contributed to the medical emergency and we are trying to determine what occurred and why it occurred and who else played a role, if anybody. >> williams graduated from an elite boarding school in massachusetts earlier this year and committed to playing lacrosse here at lafayette a few months ago. he was only 19 years old.

walter perez, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a loud argument led the gun fire in philadelphia. police are still searching for the shooter, and police say that the argument broke out with several men and women at 15th and poplar when a person walked out of a townhome and got involved. and a short time later the man was shot in the leg and the man went into the house and an s.w.a.t. team was called entered the home and found the gun but not the suspect. and police are investigating a deadly incident on the tracks in bridesburg, that a man was killed when a train hit him at 8:00 this morning. the train was headed from center city to trenton. it's unclear why he was on the tracks. there is a great deal of activity around former mayor frank rizzo and now a brand new sculpture that sits beside it with a strong message.

mural arts of philadelphia is behind the art next to the municipal building on board street an afro pick on one side and called all power to the people. the work of hank williams thomas. 800 pounds and 8 feet tall it stands in sight of the rizzo statue, a topic of heated debate with called to take it down. reaction is mixed. >> i think especially in light of the rizzo statue that i think should come down and i think has a legacy of police brutality and white supremacy and home phobia, i think power to all people should make people feel comfortable. >> i don't see where this includes everybody. this one is in my mind, specifically targeted towards one particular group of people.

>> donald trump appreciates the effort to get rid of obama care. inaction is not an option. lindsay graham of south carolina says that the bill is the best and only chance they believe for repealing and replacing the affordable care act. this legislation would do away with the various subsidies and mandates of the current health care law and instead gives the states money in block grants to help individuals pay for health coverage. >> i can tell you there are a lot of colleagues that are dying to have another shot at health care. a lot of colleagues of mine that would like to talk about money and power out of washington and returning it to their state closer to the patient. and in the hands of people you can actually complain to. >> graham says there is still a lot of fight left in republicans, despite a sound defeat in the senate earlier this summer.

meanwhile, there is a rival bill happening democratic senator bernie sanders outlined his proposal today. it calls for revamping the system into one where the government provides medical insurance for everyone. >> thank you. a veteran houston police officer who drowned in harvey's floodwaters was laid to rest today. sergeant steve perez was remember ford his faith and dedication to his family and to public service. hundreds of fellow officers and top officials were there to pay tribute. he was driving the patrol car after the storm when the highway underpass became flooded. prepare served 30 years on the job. and flames tore through a -- in kansas city, missouri. officials say that the fire started when employees were transferring chemicals at the plant. and despite the intense fire one worker only had a minor injury.

and crews were able to put the fire out after an hour and a half. it may seem hard to believe but target is looking ahead to holiday hiring, the retailer plans to bring on more than 100,000 temporary workers that is nearly 30,000 more than they brought on last year. if you are interested target is holding recruiting events from october 13th to the 15th. the workers are charged with stocking shelves and helping customers and unloading products. on wall vote we are in the green again. the dow jones up 39 points on the day and the nasdaq up nearly 6 and the s&p 500 up nearly 2 points today. >> the new program in wilmington is one stop shopping for all things having to do with energy. the energize delaware community launched the program today including the mobile unit operated by catholic charities

allowing residents to get assistance and receive information on weatherization and home repair services. meteorologist, adam joseph, joining us now. he is here. >> you want to do the forecast? >> i'll leave that to adam. of course we heard the rain outside today off and on. >> this morning especially with the steady showers and downpours, then a bit a break and now this has pushed in your trying to look at the center city skyline here from sky 6 hd, you can kind of see the buildings in the foreground here but low lying crowds are locked in and mist and drizzle out there. and kind of a dreary end to the day, as we look at stormtracker 6 live double scan live, any heavier showers are long gone. on the radar scope not much happening here in and around philadelphia, wilmington and chester county and wilmington county and montgomery county. the radar beam works and goes up and away from the radar site so it's overshooting the tops of

the low lying drizzle and cloud cover. that is why it's not picked up on the radar. it's out there. in fact, because of that mist you can see the visibility has dropped quite a bit. fog reports down to a mile in philadelphia and wilmington and see the gray colors and parts of gloucester and salem and newcastle and chester and delaware county as we see the biggest batch of mist pass through. and temperatures they look cool from this vantage point but when you step out you don't say it's cool out there at all. it's the tropical atmosphere that moved back in. 70 allentown and 72 philadelphia. a little warmer to the south where you have a little glimmer of a little bit of sunlight this afternoon in the upper 70s for millville as well as dover. as we look at the month so far pretty remarkable where temperatures are running 5.5 degrees below normal. it came off a cool august as

well. in fact, the last eight days straight high temperatures are below normal and signs that the second half of the month we turn this around and go back above normal. the satellite and radar drifting through and way to the west here. that will pivot through in the form of a cold front. and tonight we do have the areas of drizzle that develop and patchy fog developing as well. 62 allentown and 68 in millville and future tracker 6 tomorrow morning dry and cloudy and patchy fog and warm and muggy and tomorrow afternoon we could see the showers even the rumble of thunder passing through with the cold front at the end of the day tomorrow. about this time. as we look at the four day at 4:00 forecast, 78 and humid tomorrow with the afternoon showers and downpours developing and on sis of today and tomorrow morning they are in the afternoon and evening. clouds and more in the way of sunshine and friday 82.

pre-k program. all classes are filled to capacity. and a few children enrolled and a few hundred on the waiting list. mayor kenney pay aid visit to a pre-k school in rhawnhurst funded by the controversial beverage tax. a tax that the industry is challenging in the state supreme court. they gathered in center city philadelphia today to thank first responders for being on the front lines in times of danger. the hero thrill show kicked off with a grand pep rally, this is the 63rd annual event that raises funds for the families of fallen police and fire heroes. city leaders including the fire and police commissioners took the stage to announce the worthy cause, as the motorcycle drill team lined the street. the actual drill show, a thrill show is scheduled for september 23rd at noon outside of the wells fargo center. well, a nonprofit community

center on the main line got a big financial boost today thanks to the kindness of strangers, the new leaf club in rosemont is dedicated to helping those overcome chemical dependency and depression. the money was raised as part of a project called next level that used social media to raise funds and donations and in the span of a month this is the end result a big donation to ensure the future of the new leaf club here in rosemont, pa. there is still nora head in the next half hour of "action news" at 4:00. delaware county has a new weapon in the war against sexual predators and her name is charlie. how this k-9 is able to sniff out child important. after the break.

kyle gentry last week. according to the report from the ntsb the pilot experienced mechanical problems after takeoff and tried to stop the engine and perform an auto rotation that would glide the chopper down and instead it crashed near the airport in medford killing 54-year-old gentry and the pilot. he was half of the duo montgomery gentry. philadelphia police are searching for the drive their struck a man on kirkwood highway and took off. investigators say that 48-year-old michael aiken was trying to cross the highway and walk into the path way of the car. he was not in the crosswalk and may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time. he is expected to be okay the vehicle that struck him may have been a dark gray toyota forerunner. if you have information you are

can asked to call police. two men accused of dealing crack cocaine in trenton. they were both arrested yesterday after a traffic stop. police say that harper was driving and sped away. and the pair was captured after a brief chase. officers found 45 bricks of heroin and six grams of crack cocaine during a search of harper's car on kent street. and recovered a fully loaded handgun stolen from its rightful owner in pennsylvania. delaware county has a new four-legged tool to fight sexual predators. vernon odom got to meet the especially trained k-9 officer today and see how she sniffs out child pornography. >> the name of that weapon and special tool is charlie. >> the delaware county da has inlisted a 2-year-old labrador as pennsylvania's first and only electronic forensic k-9.

will sit. k-9 charlie is made available to law enforcement agencies across pennsylvania. where there were 303 child porn arrests last year. 29 of them here in delaware county. i'm vernon odom, channel 6 "action news" in media. wow amazing. >> it is. time to talk about the forecast and the dreary start to the day. adam joseph is inside now with a closer look at the forecast. a little bit of irma affecting us. >> that tropical atmosphere down south flooding up the eastern seaboard and rain to come along. and we are dealing with some of that drizzle out there this evening. and temperatures they are not all that high. they are actually below average. 70 in allentown and 70 in philadelphia and 74 at the atlantic city airport. and the problem with the low lying clouds and some of that drizzle that has developed is because the air temperature and dew point are basically the

same. almost 100% relative humidity and what is tropical air and that is why we see the cloud deck lower from the sky. we take a look at sky 6 hd at philadelphia international airport creating some issues i am certain there at the airport with the visibilities drastically reduced over the last hour. visibility now down to a mile in the city of philadelphia. you can see it as far better as millville and dover. you say what mist or drizzle. it's confined to all the area you see grayed in here. chester county and newcastle county and parts of camden and gloucester and reading 2.5 miles at the present time. we'll talk about another unsettled day tomorrow and we'll brighten it up here this weekend. >> that is what i'm looking forward to. adam thanks. there is a new plan in place to end homelessness in camden county. the announcements was made

authorities in italy are investigating a triple family tragedy at a dormant volcano popular with tourists. police outside of naples says

you are looking at speeds like 3 and 4 miles per hour. as you come westbound on the 30 bypass from exton, an absolute parking lot and stay as far away as you can. the pennsylvania turnpike or business 30 are better bets. the purpose took westbound speeds in the upper 50s. looks like it is drizzling again in the northeast philadelphia and traffic slowing on the northbound lanes of 95 and the crash at academy is gone and now a 45 minute travel time is three times what it should be but better than the 1:04 during the last report. but we have the emergency construction in gloucester county at delsy drive. 10 miles per hour there north of national park. we'll keep an eye on these situations in the 5:00 hour. >> yes, thank you matt. stepping outside, a live look from sky 6 hd believe it or not center city is somewhere in

80 degrees, everyone is feeling the same kind of tropical nature to the outdoors. it's a warm front that has drifted through. any heavier batches of showers or downpours they are way to the north at this point. but as we zoom to the south and west an area of low pressure that originally irma in the ohio and tennessee valley spinning to the west with a cold front and bringing downpours tomorrow afternoon. areas of drizzle tonight and patchy fog developing and 62 to 68 degrees, future tracker 6 tomorrow morning, lots of heavy cloud cover out there and that continues into the afternoon, a cold front arrives, 5:00 we'll watch for showers or downpours and even the rumble of thunder and not severe weather just slowing drifting by and that continues into south jersey tomorrow night at 11:00. the latest with jose still a hurricane winds sustained 75 miles per hour drifting to the south at 3 miles per hour.
