again flew it over northern japan. the missile fell into the sea. it is causing another round of massive political waves. it's thursday night. the big story on "action news" tonight, the firing of a medium range missile by north korea. it was the second north korean missile to fly over japanese territory in the last month. the missile launch follows the test of what may have been a hydrogen bomb september 3rd. defense secretary james mattis didn't want to talk about the response. the missile test comes days after the security council approved the latest round of sanctions. you can follow updates on the free "6abc" app. the latest developments from

the jersey shore and with it, risk of rip currents. tropical storm jose is churning up the waters off the mid atlantic coast. that can be dangerous for folks taking advantage of the warm weather at the shore at beachess with life guards no longer on duty. >> jose will cause trouble with the rip currents, large swells. this is the latest on the storm. if you see this, it's not all that organized. maximum sustained winds 70 miles per hour. it's a tropical storm, not a hurricane now. it's moving into warmer waterlikely to become a category one and turn north. this is shifted back east, a windshield wiper effect.

there is word that the state of pennsylvania is close to unable to pay its bills. starting tomorrow the state's bank account will be at zero. the house last night approved a plan to take money from environmental protection instead of a $500 million tax hike. governor wolf is against the plan and is not willing to bail out the state with a short term loan. >> this woman tried to kill her mother. donna repeatedly gave insulin injections to her 76-year-old chronically ill mother in an attempted mercy killing. >> there are times when a parent is begging a child not to let
