>> ♪♪ >> friday night. we have the latest on another terror attack in london. and teachers in the methacton school district are set to strike on monday. but the big story on "action news" tonight is the probe into repeated incidents of luring on the streets of the tacony and wissinoming sections of philadelphia. six times since tuesday children have been approached by a man driving a car and in each case the children have scampered to safety include to go here at sullivan elementary school. needless to say police want to find this guy and fast. "action news" reporter vernon odom is at police special victims. vernon, what's the latest on this? >> reporter: it's up to six cases they're looking at now jim and we're talking about several possible suspects. tonight police have now realized six different cases all -- all of these cases have converged in the lower northeast of philadelphia in rough a four day period, four or five day period, three

incidents today. >> do not talk to strangers. >> reporter: at dismissal time at four schools in the lower northeast, students were told to walk home in pairs. in the wake of four attempted abductions in the last two days. this morning at 8:00 in the 4900 block of ditman, a man described as hispanic with a beard pulled up next to a 10-year-old female asking if he could take her picture. she ran to school. 10 minutes later in the 5300 block of jackson a male pulled up to a 10-year-old female. she tells police he showed her cash and a camera and asked if he could take her picture. she ran to the sullivan elementary school and told an adult. he's described as a white male, 30 to 40 years old with a beard and a mustache. driving a black car with tinted windows. incident number three today at 8:45 in the 5300 block of gillespie a man told a 10-year-old female to come over to his car then started

unzipping his pants. she ran to her school and told adults what happened. this time the victim describes the man as a white male green eyes black shirt, black boots, 30 to 40 years old no facial hair with black hair bald on the top. incident number four, yesterday morning at 8:00 in the 5300 block of ditman, a student saw a man taking pictures and recording children in the schoolyard. description, an hispanic male with a beard and light green shirt. jim, now late developments. two additional names -- two additional cases were cited by police just moments agopolice tell me both happened in the 400 block of tomlinson street. today two women say a hispanic male offered them cash to get in the back seat of his vehicle. they ran away and told police.w one more. from earlier in the week in the same block the 400 block of tomlinson on september 12th, the same

scenario. two young women left school that day. they fled as well. so did the suspect. this is obviously a frightening pattern in northeast philadelphia, jim. police have an intense manhunt under way tonight and they're asking the public for any help they can provide in helping them get these people off the street. live in hunting park, i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you vernon. in london england tonight there's a massive investigation going on to find out who planted a bomb on a commuter train this morning. the device was hidden in a plastic bucket inside a supermarket freezer bag and then left on the floor of the train. it did go off but only partially exploded and while it provoked panic on the train and on the platform, the bomb caused no life-threatening injuries. 29 people did suffer flash burns but they're not being called serious. authorities are calling this a terror attack. the train was carrying many children coming in from the suburbs to go to school.

british media say the bomb was equipped with a timer. world news tonight with david muir will have much more on the terror investigation in london. that is next at 6:30 right after "action news." five people including an infant were hurt in a chain reaction crash in delaware late this morning. the accident happened in the northbound lanes of south college avenue in newark. police say a bakery truck failed to stop at a traffic light and rear-ended an acura. two other cars in front of the acura also got caught up in the crash. a seven month old was flown to a.i. dupont hospital. four adults were taken to christiana. there's no word yet on their conditions. word late today that josé is a hurricane again having regained strength out in the ocean about 485 miles southwest of bermuda. the big question, might josé cause us some problems next week? meteorologist cecily tynan is keeping a close eye. cecily what's the story so far? >> and jim the biggest

concern with josé is still what it's doing to the ocean producing large swells, the risk of rip currents on a weekend when a lot of people are going to be heading to the beach. it's going to be warm and sunny. so, this is the latest. maximum sustained winds 75 miles per hour. it's getting more organized moving to the northwest at about 10 miles per hour. it looks like over the weekend on sunday it will start to make that turn up to the north. now, the latest forecast track very similar to the same one we had last night keeps the center of this track about 200 miles off shore. however, we all know about that cone of uncertainty and the western edge does bring a possibility of it clipping the coast of new jersey. so if it keeps on the expected track it means that the chance of tropical storm force winds the best chance will be heading towards cape cod but we have about a 20 percent chance that there could be tropical storm force winds right along the coast if it hold on its current track. so, this is what we do know. rough surf, rip currents will be a big problem right through the weekend into next week.

also tidal flooding possible. still uncertain the exact track of josé and that will determine the extent of the rain and wind. more details coming up in the seven-day forecast. jim. >> cecily, thank you. "action news" reporter bob brooks is live in brigantine tonight. bob, how are authorities there staying alert to potential josé problems? >> reporter: well, jim everyone is staying alert right now. they're keeping their eye on this. everybody sort of talking about this storm and though we don't know the direct line of the storm just yet again everyone is asked to be patient but also be vigilant. over the weekend waves are expected to start to get pretty big. rip currents are expected to start forming so that's the real problem this weekend. today at the shore we watched as the waves got bigger. surfers who saw it love it. families we spoke to not so much. today they're keeping a closer eye out. >> definitely today is a little bit more choppy. >> reporter: seems about everyone's eye is now on hurricane jose.

>> it's looping around. >> it's definitely colder and definitely a little bit bad. >> knock on wood. >> reporter: the storm is expected to crawl up the east coast. it just got upgraded into a hurricane. before any big time actions are taken you're asked to be patient for the next 24 hours. the head of cape may emergency management says the next day day and a half will be telling. >> we'll probably have a better idea by saturday night. >> reporter: one thing he can guarantee is big time surf and rip currents. with most beach patrols closed for the summer, he says that's where the real danger lies but be prepared. >> first responders are going to be monitoring and watching, you know, for any problems along the beach. >> reporter: on the weekend some of the beaches down here still have lifeguards on duty so if you do want to head out into the water this weekend you find one of those beaches and there's no doubt today the waves in brigantine are a little bigger than usual. down in sea isle more of the same. as the storm comes this group from deptford new jersey says summer is definitely over. >> we'll not be on the beach. >> reporter: their strategy is keeping their eye on things

first trial in june. jurors from -- thi be picked from mo county. in june, jurors came western pennsylvania. >> ♪♪ this is new at 6 o'clock. jeffrey sandusky pleaded good the guilty to 14 counts of child sexual abuse and child pornography. the 41-year-old son of penn state coach jerry sandusky made the deal one week before his trial was set to begin in centre county court. authorities say jeffrey sandusky committed crimes involving two under aged girls over a five year period. jeffrey sandusky faces three to eight years behind bars. teachers in the methacton school district in montgomery county announced today that they intend to strike monday morning. contract negotiations have been going on since january with no deal. any decision to close schools will come by 8:00 p.m. sunday night. school and district offices would remain opened during any work stoppage.

>> the pennsylvania state government is delaying almost $2 billion in payments to medicaid insurers and school districts. that's because the legislature has yet to come up with a way to fund the government and as long as that stalemate continues, officials expect payment delays for months. "action news" reporter john rawlins has more. >> reporter: this week state treasurer joe torsella said he was disinclined to green light harrisburg's budget impasse drags on. as of today schools could lose funding, universities like temple and penn state might lose state dollars and state workers including police, state park staff and others might halt some operations. that might have been a risk in the past but not now. >> that is no longer the case. as a result of certain litigation employees must continue to work. >> reporter: steve crawford heads government relations a one time chief of staff of governor ed rendell told us the average pennsylvanian.

>> out there just trying to deal with their family vacations and kids and school and things like that don't necessarily feel the pinch that they would have felt a number of years ago as a result of a budget impasse. >> reporter: he says that kind of pinch could occur down the road but not at this point. so pennsylvania government for now chugs on no shutdown but the governor did take some steps today to delay some big money payments. >> there are large payments that the governor could delay payments to managed care organizations, for instance, or payments to retirement systems. >> reporter: which is exactly what governor wolf announced delaying more than a billion dollars in medicaid money to well-known benefit managers or gate keepers. they will likely have to borrow to fill the gap. wolf is also delaying for now more than a half billion earmarked for the state teacher's pension fund. short term today's action should create little pain but long term crawford says if harrisburg does not correct its structural deficit it will cost. >> the commonwealth will have to pay more for its lower bond

ratings, pay more for financing and at the end of the day that does come back and bite the average taxpayer. >> reporter: john rawlins channel6 "action news". >> they are relics from a way of communicating long ago. the pennsylvania turnpike isnd getting rid of those bright yello emergency call boxes. not surprisingly in this age of cell phones they are rarely used. turnpike officials say they are roughly 1,000 boxes but they were used just 772 times all of last year. the turnpike commission will save about $250,000 a year in maintenance costs.

sunshine and yes, this is our last weekend of summer. fall officially arrives next friday only seven days away but in the meantime, it definitely still feels like summer. temperatures running 6 degrees above normal. currently philadelphia 83. allentown has dropped down to 71 degrees. a few showers up there. wilmington 81 and cape may currently 76. so double scan live showing a scattering of some showers across the lehigh valley beginning to sink down to the south. we had some near bethlehem and allentown and there you go, near macungie right now south of 222. once the sun sets shortly after 7 o'clock all of this will just completely peter out. the reason why, we're seeing some of those showers out there, we've got the buildup of heat and humidity so satellite and radar showing started the day with sunshine with the clouds building up in the afternoon. we keep this warm humid air mass right into the weekend and into next week. tomorrow, you like today you'll like tomorrow. mixture of clouds and sunshine.

by 8 o'clock already 70 degrees. by 2 o'clock 82. 5 o'clock 84. could get an isolated shower but i think most areas will be rain free and if you're heading to the beach, the ocean temperature is 74 degrees but do be careful with josé lurking offshore there will be a moderate risk of rip currents but on the beaches pretty nice weather. mix of sun and clouds 78 degrees and sunday partly sunny with a high of 77. so josé is now officially a hurricane again. it's moving to the northwest at about 10 miles per hour. i think my weather computer has logged off so i can actually just tell you about this storm. looks like it will begin to make a turn up to the north as we head through sunday and with that track it would be about 200 miles off our shore. so what that would mean, could get some breezy conditions down the shore. could be clipped with a little bit of light rain but really i think the big problem with josé like the weekend would be that moderate risk of rip currents. so the exclusive accuweather

7-day forecast for your saturday mixture of clouds and sunshine with a high of 84 degrees. on sunday, it stays warm and humid with a high of 83. monday increasing clouds as josé begins to get closer, 80 degrees and tuesday calling for breezy conditions, mostly cloudy, again if josé makes that jog to the west could get some rain developing at this point calling for a dry day. 77 degrees. behind that system on wednesday, morning clouds break for afternoon sunshine for rosh hashanah with a high of 82. thursday our last official day of summer, it will be warm, 84 degrees, partly sunny and friday when fall arrives some sunshine with a high of 79 degrees. we do get an update from the national hurricane center on hurricane jose at 11 o'clock. i'll have new information also. see if that track shifts a little bit to the west or a little bit to the east, something i'm definitely watching. too close for comfort. >> did you have a good summer? >> i did but it was too short. >> oh. >> used to be like three months longer. >> i thought it was too long.
