the national constitution center celebrates 230 years since the signing of our constitution. the big story on "action news" at noon is a accuweather alert. we're watching hurricane jose and what it could bring to the jersey shore in the next day or two. >> the storm is moving up the east coast expecting rough surf and strong wind gusts in the next coming days. nora muchanic is live at the shore, but let's go over to david murphy tracking the storm from the weather center. >> reporter: we're watching the storm watch in effect across the delaware and jersey coastlines, it is kicking in now and through tomorrow and wednesday morning him we'll have onshore winds and degree of rain and rip currents and heavy surf and flooding, as well from this. the wide view on satellite shows the center of jose continues to progress toward the north off the coast of the carolinas and a

ways to go before it gets closer to us. already we're getting the outer cloud layer from the storm coming through and we'll see showers popping through, as well. we're kind of cloudy, 73 degrees in philadelphia. not too humid. 71 in allentown. 72 in trenton. 71 in cape may. as we roll through the rest of the way it will be warm and humid fairly cloudy for the next few hours abbey sunshine breaking through before we're done today. 79 degrees at 3:00 p.m. 76 by 6:00 p.m. and 70 by 10:00 p.m. in the mid to upper 60 across the region as we go into the evening hours. jose is a big hit for us tomorrow with the winds down the shore we'll talk about the specific effects coming up. i want to point out hurricane maria which has jumped to a category three status it's going to hammer the leeward islands

and puerto rico. it could be coming more or less into the general direction of the southeastern united states. we'll track these storms and give you the details of what to expect from jose on our coastline in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. >> all right, david we'll check back in later, thank you. now, let's head to the shore where new jersey correspondent nora muchanic live in atlantic city on the jose watch at this hour, nora? >> reporter: hi, rick, we are watching really big waves off north carolina avenue and things are only going to get bigger as jose gets closer. speak of that, let's move in closer so you can get a tighter look at the swells. the angry waves continue they are pounding the shoreline. the guards are on duty at selected beaches. if they let you in at all it will only be ankle deep for good reason. >> we were worried about people

being concerned about hit by the shore breakers high tide at 6:30 we're at dead low right now and we lost most of the beach we already gained from the mixture of the sand bump and the new sands with the tides and surges is making it very dangerous, rip tides are vicious. when you see the waves what do you think. >> ? beautiful. >> reporter: and powerful. >> i would stay out of the water today. >> that tide could as you sucku right out. listen to the lifeguards they say the beach is closed, stay out of the water. >> that gentleman told him it happened to him, you don't want it to happen to you, stay away from the water. we're going to see strong winds if you live at the shore you may want to make sure you put furniture away, gusts here

tomorrow and during the hurricane could be up to 45 miles per hour. even though hose say is skimming the -- jose is skimming the coast it's causing beach erosion. there was a replenishment job this summer and it's already chewed out. the chief said 1,000 saves made 30 in the last week, they had to pull a father and son in the water, in a matter of seconds they dove in and they were in trouble immediately. the guards pulled the father out, rather son right away, the father was down a block all the way down by the pier. it really, really is dangerous. we've had rain on and off this morning it's been lightly raining, but we've had the last hour or so has been dry. that's good news, we're socked in with clouds there's no sundown here at all right now. the waves as i said are expected

currents and rough surf. not a good day to be in the water. there have been problems, stay out that's the best advice. 79 degrees in philadelphia. mostly cloudy and a little humid. overnight tonight, mostly cloudy and humid, 68 degrees. by morning there could showers popping up. as we look at josie jos -- hurricane jose continuing to weaken getting to tropical storm force as we go through the next 24 hours. as a category one up close to us it will degenerate a bit to a tropical storm close to our latitude. ahead of that we'll have the winds coming in over top of the storm. this will be a building problem tonight and tomorrow and wednesday morning. after that the storm disa dipsy doodle out to sea.

as for rain 4:00 a.m. up to noon we'll be on the air early we'll have bands of shower activity coming in off the ocean. doesn't look like a whole lot of rain overall, some of you could get an inch at the shore and half an inch inland. tomorrow night looks like the storm is over as the pulls away. there's a one to three foot storm surge is not out of the question. one is more probably than three. the waves ten to 15 feet. rip currents a bigger problem tomorrow along with beach erosion. for my money the 40 to 45-mile an hour gusts are to watch if you're homeowner down there. it will move deck chairs and awnings and tree branches that could threatened by sustained 12 hour period or more with gusts 40 to 45 miles per hour. hurricane maria a big deal a

hurricane maria as it churns in the eastern caribbean. we have coverage as we watch both storms. meteorologist david murphy has the latest on their projected path. >> let's begin with john rawlins who is live in rehoboth beach with the latest. john. >> reporter: hello from rehoboth beach beach delaware we just got here a few minutes ago. this has been a generally gray over cast day, it's windy and at times rainy. as you look at the beach behind me here, this is, you can see there's still folks down here on the beach at this point in time, but there are red no swimming flags posted probably every 50, 60 yards along the beach. the surf is definitely churning up. local officials have been monitoring the storm along with officials from the county and the state here, they are looking at the potential for impacts. at this point, well, we spoke earlier with police chief keith banks about that as to what
