wiretapping former trump campaign manager, paul manafort for years. >> and police are investigating an attempted adduction in the northeast. and hurricane jose continues to bring wind and rough surf and a lot of beach erosion along the knowledge and delaware shore lines. >> but a big worry is hurricane maria that slammed into several caribbean islands last night as a category five. it could still be category five when it hits puerto rico tomorrow. we have team coverage with meteorologist, david murphy, on the track of the hurricane but first lets go to new jersey corresponde correspondent, nora muchanic, live in ocean city. >> >> reporter: we have lots of wind kicking up and we are protecting because we are next to the music city pier. but no doubt contributing to the

waves we have seen. a lot of people are coming to check out what the wild ocean is doing today. look at what hurricane jose is doing to the ocean at the jersey shore. we started at longport off 12th avenue and the waves are astounding in their power and fer osity. >> it's so powerful. last night we saw people out there surfing. they are just taking their life in their hands by going out there. >> in the wind whipped back bays of ocean city the turbulent water is tossing around this boat. you hear the clanging of walkways picked up by the wind. and some docks are under water making it hard to this crew to build a bulk head. >> have you the fool moon and then jose behind that. a little bit of everything. >> we have been through it several times more in the winter time than now it's unusual but we are used to it i think.

>> this is the high tide with a nor'easter. last night we had not quite this much water and tonight this much and tonight a lot. tonight the cars out back will have to get moved. >> west north 15th street. this woman was stepping through the water blown out of the cans and now floating around. >> i'm not sure if i will pick it up today you can't get down there. i'll bring the trash a little back and pick up my neighbor's stuff. >> people are coming for the firsthand look at the wild waves and are in awe of what they are seeing. >> something to behold and something to watch. feel bad for the individuals down south going through this but it's amazing the power of the waves and the water. >> reporter: it is really amazing. back live now you are looking at the ocean off the ocean city music pier.

the waves are just incredible and it's drawing a crowd here right now, dozens of people have been here all morning long with cameras and video cameras and just to get a look in person what this looks like. it has kicked up and it's quite a show. nora muchanic, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. well, after this and the damage to the shore line. residents will be happy to see hurricane jose move out. sky 6 hd taking a live look at the beach in cape may, new jersey, right now. rough surf there as well. david murphy is live in the weather center with a first check of the forecast. >> in some ways we are doning the bullet with jose but not completely out of the woods with problems at the coast. the center of the storm down to the south and west and it moves up and away from us. far enough away to prevent the tropical storm force winds on the ocean but close enough to cause beach erosion and heavy surf and that sport of thing.

the storm is down to 75 miles per hour winds. that is where it has been over the last 24 hours or so. moving north slowly at 7 and that forrd motion picks up a bit and stalls off our coast. the maximum wind gusts are 90 miles per hour. that is at the center of the storm. the storm will stay off the coast and minimal rainfall out of this, a little bit of that down at the shore. less than a .25 inch and points inland could get a shower but not amounting to much. gusts at the ocean front topping out at the 30 to 40 miles per hour range. we have breakers on the ocean front of of of 8 to 10 feet and that produces the heavy rip current action and beach erosion along with the heavy surf. if you get in there without a rip current it could potentially do you injury to your back and neck. we have a coastal flood warning until 1:00 in the morning on wednesday. a little after midnight tonight

there are those breakers and a high tide this morning after the rush hour and that produced minor tidal flooding but this high tide tonight will do a moderate flooding number on you. if you are in the areas that gets the flooding you'll want to move your car and secure yourself as well. i'll be back in a little bit with more on the track of this storm as well as maria, a major hurricane right now heading toward puerto rico and the details ahead. >> the island of dominica is reporting widespread damage after hurricane maria slammed in as a category five overnight and the prime minister says they lost quote, everything that money can buy. and tweeted the storm was so fierce he dare not look outside. the roof was torn from his home and later was rescued. communications from the

island of guadeloupe were cut by hurricane maria. and winds gusted more than 140 miles per hour. and in a message up loaded to twitter told of flooded homes and highways and the full picture is not known for hours. authorities in puerto rico are warning people to find safe shelter before the storm's arrival. many residents just removed the plywood from their windows after the brush with irma. and now have to put it up again. they have shelters capable of taking 130,000 people in a worst case scenario. you are never more than a few click as way from the tracks of hurricanes jose and maria, with stormtracker 6 live double scan on our 6 abc app it's a free download for your mobile device. president trump this morning delivered his first speech to the united nations his biggest speech on foreign policy.

a convoy of trucks and trailers were loaded up in wildwood to help parts of hurricane ravaged volunteers are taking supplies north of orlando and head to lehigh acres florida hit hard by irma. sponsored by american legion post 184. people were arrested after violent protesting outside of georgia tech. scout shultz called 911 to report an intoxcatted person and people were told to seek shelter. >> the police department was like fighting with him actually. i saw some police officers put them in the ground. >> two georgia tech police officers suffered minor injuries in the protest.

>> a small earthquake rattled los angeles overnight. the u.s. geological survey said the magnitude 3.6 quake was centered west of the section and the tremor was not strong enough to cause damage and dozens of people reported feeling it and lit up twitter with their comments. the speculation is over but toys r us has indeed filed for bankruptcy. the store suffered with billions in debt. and the company plans to restructure and revamp and close stores. the filing is having a ripple effect. the toys r us suppliers including mattel and hasbro, each says that 10% of their sale goes to toys "r" us. last november's election and the aftermath gave the english vocabulary a big boost. the dictionary added 250 new words and meanings in light of the split and social climate.

learn about the celebrations on the parkway all year long. >> a great backdrop for events. >> as a kid they didn't do as much. >> stormtracker 6 live double scan -- all right so we have showers down the shore. and there they are spinning in off jose just light rain for the most part. a couple of cells highlighted in yellow in belmar and fairly nuisance rain compared to what it could be if the storm was closer. sky 6 hd and the camera starting to bounce a bit in center city. haven't seen this in a while with the cameras bouncing more windy and unsettled and getting into autumn because of the storm at the coast. the temperature was up to 79 and slid to 78 and there is the sustained wind at 17 miles per hour. in philadelphia we get gusts at times going into the 20s today. and ocean temperature 73.

not that this is a day you want to get in the water. you do not. 78 in allentown and 74 in millville and down the shore in cape may, 74 degrees. hurricane jose is still a category one hurricane at this hour. did a jog toward the coast that got folks in hatteras all excited but still heading up to the north and looks to stay offshore. and degenerate tonight into a tropical storm, and stays that way into the next couple of days and over the weekend an extropical low. and atlantic city and local beaches we see some impact. there is not much rain to cover, some cells may make it past philadelphia but the storm is fairly weak in terms of precipitation. wind gusts up to 29 miles per hour at the airport in atlantic city. and possibly that we see a 30 to who miles per hour gust and perhaps higher than that at time as long the immediate coast but not a sustained tropical storm

wind. that is why the tropical storm watches were lost or dropped yesterday. the biggest impacts along the coast is breaking waves. breakers around 8 to 10 feet and causing damaging beach erosion and minor tidal flooding coming up in the evening high tide between 7:15 and 8:15 tonight. and dangerous rip currents and surf that can get you all mangled up if you try to go in there. mostly cloudy and dry, 80 in the lehigh valley and can't rule out a shower. and at the shore mostly cloudy and rip currents are an issue and 74 in the water and 84 is your high in philadelphia and mostly cloudy and on the damp side and clouds and sunny breaks and winds gust well through the 20s to 30. then 67 with an early shower overnight. as we look at hurricane maria, a monster storm clearly defined eye of the hurricane how often

have i said that. 160 miles per hour winds and we plow through puerto rico tomorrow as a category four and turks and caicos, getting hit by irma and looks like round two from maria, and then spinning off the east as a category two. and most projections take it off the coast. tomorrow damp and sun and high of 85 and still humid and friday autumn arrives and 84 and for the weekend mid-80s saturday and sunday and 85 and 86 nice weekend ahead and not feeling like the first weekend in fall. >> feels like summer. thank you. another half hour to go when we come right back.

on a course to puerto rico. the governor says they are bracing for a hit from maria that will have force they have not seen in several generations. >> sky 6 hd showing you the beach in cape may, new jersey, hurricane jose is churning out in the atlantic in the east coast. the surf remains rough along the shore and chance for coastal flooding as well. we have team coverage on the hurricanes. lets get the latest from jose and maria from david murphy in the weather center. >> jose a pretty big storm. still a category one, and you see the center of the storm pushes foreign and forth to the northern and off the coast of norfolk, virginia, and over the next several days it will spin out and become a tropical storm and that could happen today or tonight and then an extra tropical low that will not cause much damage. we see the rain
