those that live there know sunrise tomorrow will bring a grim sight. >> it is wednesday night. jim's off. i'm brian taff. the big story is the wrath from a storm named maria. it moved ashore in puerto rico this morning as a category four the strongest to hit has territory in 80 years. 155 miles per hour winds tore roofs off of house, snapped trees and unloaded 20-inch also of rain. es of rain. the concern is widespread flooding. officials caution as of tonight it's too soon to know the number of deaths. meteorologist adam joseph is in for cecily tynan. maria is a category two now. where is she going next?

>> she will be over the open waters for days. the storm is in the atlantic at this point. you can see the eye forming as it moved over puerto rican and weakened over the mountainous islands, feeling the wrath in the dominican republic. as we zoom in here, there you can see the eye forming which is typically an indication that the storm is trying to strengthen once again, and it should as it heads north and west, winds sustained at 115 miles per hour. rainfall totals, 25-inches in puerto rico with isolated amounts of 35-inches funneling down the mountain into the valleys creating flash flooding. the statistics, 88% of the deaths in tropical systems are due to the flooding, not the

strong winds. as we look at the forecast as it moves forward, the turks and caicos would be next. we have the exact track coming up in the full forecast. >> adam, thank you. hurricane jose left behind flood waters and beach erosion at the jersey shore. the ponding is back behind dunes market. it will take about $2 million to repair the damage. >> the erosion that we saw in these couple of blocks is the most significant we have seen in a decade. >> the mayor says moving forward he hopes to use pardoning structures like a seawall to prevent scenes like that. in new castle county, the high tide caused the airport road to largely disappear beneath the water. several cars stalled out and were towed away.

jose slowly falls apart to the east. high pressure is stuck. temperatures stay ten degrees above average. this is the latest as of 11:00 p.m. cacategory two storm, winds sustained 110 miles per hour, scrapes the turks and caicos as a category three. the latest with maria, the storm continues to weaken. it's starting to curve away with the latest models out to sea. we are seeing that trend. let's hope it continues into the middle of next week. we have to monitor. there could be a lot of fluctuations that far out. the exclusive accuweather forecast, it eats summer like. less humid, temperatures near 90 for the eagle home opener
