in the philadelphia suburbs is under investigation tonight. the big story on "action news" is a pair of natural disasters hitting close to home. tonight there is an outpouring of help for the far away victims ravaged by a massive earthquake and monster storm. right now hurricane maria is lashing turk and caicos after destroys homes and decimating the electric grid in puerto rico. they could be without power for months. and that is unfolding as crews race to save victims trapped under collapsed buildings after mexico's 7.1 earthquake. gray hall is following the local relief efforts tonight. and joins us live with more. >> reporter: well rick, happening now the mayor along with other city leaders are meeting in the building right behind me to show their support for puerto rico and letting people know how to give back and people in this community are not

ignoring the devastation in puerto rico and also mexico they are eager to help out. >> this feeling of what can i do? why do i feel this horrible? i have not done anything about the situation and i'm all the way over here and there is nothing i can do? >> the mexican association of students at university of pennsylvania is proof you can do something. they are lending a hand for the people that affected by the 7.1 earthquake that levels buildings and started a go fund me that raised over $30,000. >> i trust the efforts that are happening by the government and people and everybody is working together to rebuild. >> as mexico works to rebuild so does puerto rico. they got a one two punch and first from irma and then hurricane maria. a local latino organization is collecting funds through its

website and council woman sanchez and mayor kenney discussed reliefs efforts and ways people can give back. money is what is needed. >> we want to prioritize it look at generators and filtration systems. >> and both have a long road to recovery and many in our communes with ties to the impacted areas say their support will not stop when the story is out of the headlines. >> this is a long-term situation, in two days people may talk about something different but the people that lost things will still have lost that. >> all right back out live we can tell you that the fundraising efforts continue through the weekend and no doubt for days and months to come. the university of pennsylvania students raised over $30,000 and their new goal now is $50,000. that is the latest here in hunting park. channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. and you can keep up with the latest track of hurricane maria

fox chase and another in willow grove. >> someone with a little bit of electronic or mechanical skills you know could put it together. >> two men were scap toured on surveillance in abington and it is believed they install aid skimmer on a bank there. captain roland lee of the philadelphia police major crimes unit explained that the scanner uses a magnetic strip to steal the information off the card when inserted. >> it looks parts of the regular equipment and it's not part of the regular equipment of the atm much and a tiny camera up above records the pin number. >> and they make a duplicate. and take money out of your account. >> they need help identify the men and advise customers to take

caution. >> i make sure everything is legit and i put my code in i cover it up first. >> police are not sure if the men seen in the surveillance photos are working together or if there are several groups operating, the so-called skimming is an ongoing problem with 20 of these skimmers found just in the city of philadelphia this year. and even more in the suburbs. live in west philadelphia, i'm sara bloomquist, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. police today charged 34-year-old sam chay with a pipe bomb violation. they discovered the pipe bombs in the basement of a home or fair hill street. they had explosive materials but did not have a fuse. he is charged with having weapons of mass destruction and risking a catastrophe. and video shows a dry-cleaners being robbed at knife point in south

philadelphia. they are looking for the man that barged in and demanded cash and a 75-year-old employee tried to lock the man outside and the worker was overpowered and assaulted and the suspect got a different person to give up the money. 30-year-old anthony tinny is facing disturbing charges involving contact with a 13-year-old girl. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live at the eddiestone police headquarters with more on the investigation. >> reporter: rick, police here tell me that this case is outstanding because there has not been a crime like this reported here in well over a decade. it's a tiny town where everyone knows everyone else. and the arrest of tony tinny is reverberating all over the place. >> 30-year-old anthony tinny is in the delaware county prison his bail set at $200,000.

his volunteer firefighter vehicle is still parked in front of the apartment building where he lives with his mother and daughter and brother. tinny worked at times as a pizza deliveryman was a volunteer firefighter as well. they launched their investigation in march when a 13-year-old girl a friend of tinny's told them he touched her inappropriately on several occasions. she has told police he tried to show her porn movies and offered buy her sex toys. >> it's repulsive and a hard crime for such a small community. >> and he knows her parents. >> that is correct and started with the relationship with her father and got introduced to her through that relationship. >> this neighbor from across the street knows tinny his entire life and is not surprised by the shocking alligations. >> a lot of people around the

town never trusted him and i have a daughter and now seeing that, and he lives across the street from me, i'm glad he got caught and can't affect anybody else's kids. >> reporter: rick, police say that tinny at this point is not being looked at in any other cases in delaware county. police tell me at times he worked for the victim's father and at times even baby sat her. i'm vernon odom, channel 6 "action news" in eddiestone, delaware county. gun violence in philadelphia has risen to the level of a public health crisis. councilman johnson gathered are naacp leaders and mothers of homicide victims to address it's issue and plans to introduce gun legislation to fight it. and republicans think they have the votes they need to finally repeal and replace

points are in the 50s and dew points are low. allentown 85 and millville 85 and cape may 80 and trenton 84 and wilmington 85. and hurricane maria right now is southeast of the turks and caicos islands a category three hurricane and the eye is getting stronger and north of dominican republic and getting heavy rain and it looks like maria will pass east of the turks and caicos and east of bahamas and jose has little to do with that. it's keeping two areas of high pressure away. we have a bermuda high and another air of high pressure developing over us, those two high pressures merge together maria would be pushed into the southeast coast but jose is creating a weakness in the high pressure and almost a path to help pull maria out to sea and

that is the national weather service official track heading maria out to sea at cape hatteras and bermuda next week. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast no sign of fall tomorrow. 85 degrees. and fall officially arrives at 4:02 in the afternoon and temperatures crank up for the weekend. 89 for the union on saturday and sunday 91 degrees and monday, the record high 92 set back in 1970 looks like we may tie that. and tuesday if we hit 90 degrees that would be three days in a row in the 90s than would be heat wave number six. it stays warm on wednesday when take an edge of the heat off 86 degrees and thursday remaining 14 degrees above normal with a high of 87 degrees. i'll have a new update on hurricane maria coming up on "action news" at 11:00. >> maybe i'll be a lifeguard for
