you, 6:00 a.m., saturday, september 30. here's a look at the stories we're following on "action news." a woman is hit and killed by a car in delaware. ahead details on the search for the driver. and multiple people were injured when a three story condo goes up in flames, reaction from those who escaped. plus, with supplies low and power short we take a look at the crisis hurricane maria left behind in puerto rico. those stories and more, in just a moment, but first outside we go to meteorologist chris sowers with a look at the

weekend weather. chris, you did push a button. >> reporter: winds are blowing out of the north/northwest at 15 miles per hour and the air temperatures are in the 40s and 50s. cruel need something with sleeves this morning and by afternoon you might need a light sleeve as well. wednesday was uncomfortable, forecasted a high around 90. we managed a high of 89. with the humidity it actually felt like 94 or 95. then the cold front swept through, 78 degrees, thursday. yesterday, 71. today we're forecasting a high of 67. right now we're showing 51 in slatington, and kutztown, 47 in lake harmony. warminster, 54. center city, 57. cinnaminson, 59. glassboro, 56 and dover, 58. here's satellite and radar lots of activity north of the delaware and the lehigh valleys. we have a small disturbance pushing through syracuse and

albany, that area of low pressure will continue on its journey to the east. all the precipitation that you see there should stay north and east of philadelphia today. maybe an isolated shower or two, but i think 90% of the viewing area is dry today. mostly cloudy after morning sun. breezy and cooler. peeks of sun by afternoon. 67 degrees is the forecasted high. again, with the breeze whipping around 20 to 25 miles per hour this afternoon it will make the 67 feel much, much cooler. when i come back in just a few minutes we'll talk about a warmup in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. nothing remotely close to what we saw last week. it will not be as comfortable as the temperatures we're seeing now. it's coming up in ten minutes. delaware state police are searching for the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that killed a woman overnight. "action news" learned the woman was crossing kirkwood highway in mill creek at 12:30 a.m. when she was hit by a vehicle. she died at the scene.

her identity has not been released. so far there's no description of the vehicle involved. a 20-year-old man fighting for his life ever 'was shot in the back of the head in the city's wayne junction section. police called to the unit block of abbotsford avenue. witnesses say they saw three gunmen running away from the scene, but word on a possible motive. 6:03 a.m., one person was injured after a dozen shots were fired in wilmington, delaware. police arrived on the scene after 1:00 a.m., there they say they found more than a dozen shell casings. police tell "action news" a house and several cars were hit by bullets, a gas meter at a home was hit causing a gas leak. a man later showed up at wilmington hospital with gunshot injuries. so far no word on his condition.

happening this morning a 6-year-old boy is recovering after he was shot in north philadelphia. police say the boy was shot just before 8:00 p.m. at 24th and knorr street. it's not clear what led to the shooting and there's no word about suspects. the child was rushed to temple university hospital with the gunshot injury to his shoulder. he is in stable condition. a man is waking up behind bars in chester county this morning charged in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man thursday night, 20-year-old kian carpster -- carpenter is being held without bail in phoenix ville. a vigil was held for the man who was shot where he was gunned down. first responders rushed to the scene of a condo complex in

ocean county. it happened at the covington village. jeff chirico spoke to the people who escaped the fire. >> reporter: it was an emotional night as family members reunited with loved one chased from their homes by fire. chopper 6 hd shows the flames that ripped through the condos, a 55 and over community. >> you can see the black smoke, it was really black, within ten minutes, the flames were shooting up. >> reporter: escrow heard a neighbor yelling and escaped his first floor condo with little more than the clothes he was wearing. >> he said there's a fire in the back of the buildings. i grabbed my wife and the phones and keys and took off. >> reporter: crews searched all 30 units, two police officers rescued a resident, three of them were hospitalized for smoke

inhalation. four firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion another for medical emergency. officials say the fire could have been worse. >> extremely lucky it didn't happen in the middle of the night, extremely lucky. it happened in the middle of the night, everybody was sleeping. >> reporter: red cross volunteers met with the 37 residents displaced by the fire. >> some will be staying with friends or family. to determine how many people need lodging, is the what to do next. >> reporter: with the roof and much. third floor completely destroyed, the building manager and resident said she lost almost everything, but isn't giving up. >> we'll strong we'll get through it, we'll rebuild. >> reporter: in all, 37 people are homeless, the fire marshal and the prosecutor's office are investigating this, but so far no word on a cause. as for the injuries, the firefighters and police have all been released from the hospital, but that one resident remained in the hospital with smoke

inhalation. in lakewood, ocean county, jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." >> time 6:06 a.m., crisis continues in puerto rico as residents deal with the aftermath of hurricane maria. the pentagon has pointed a three star general to lead all hurricane efforts on the islands. crews are having difficult getting the supplies to victims who need it the most. dann cuellar is in puerto rico with the problems folks are facing. >> reporter: it was a moment they had been waiting for, a chance to get a bag of ice per person for two dollars. badly needed ice to keep perishables and medication from spoiling. within minutes they had run out. >> it's horrible here. the government is not saying what is going on here. >> reporter: the truth of the matter is even to go into a

convenience store running on generators you have to wait in line, whether it is gas for your vehicle or medications from the pharmacy, you have to wait in line. >> we need help badly, we need it from the army, the coast guard, the navy, this is a devastation, this is like a war. >> reporter: the truth is some people say they are willing to pay huge amounts of money to fly out of the island if they could. >> they would pay ten thousand dollars to go to florida. >> i will, i will. i will. >> reporter: you will pay ten thousand dollars. >> you can't find a text. >> reporter: you can't find a ticket to get out? >> no. >> reporter: for the record, the national guard was out directing traffic and trash trucks were picking up trash since hurricane maria devastated large parts of the island. some people are glad to hear a general has been brought in to take charge of the emergency response. >> i hope he gets the logistics going and get the food to the

people. >> reporter: the dover air force base sent c17 globe master 3 to puerto rico loaded 100,000 pounds of food and water. dover said they will continue to provide such relief as long as it is requested. in puerto rico, i'm dann cuellar channel 6 "action news." >> new jersey is doing its part to help out. chris christie signed and executive order to have 1100 emergency responders help with recovery efforts for hurricane maria in puerto rico. that number includes national guard soldiers. 6:09 a.m., a 13th trump administration officials is out of a job. tom price has resign. he is accused of racking up $400,000 or chartered flights all on the taxpayer's dime. hours before price's resignation

state department warning americans to stay away from cuba. this comes after 21 diplomats and family members have suffered mysterious illnesses. the trump administration said the illnesses are quote attacks. all nonpersonal and family are ordered to leave cuba. all visas have been recinded issued in cuba. we're tracking your weekend, meteorologist chris sowers is tracking the temperature outside. >> reporter: it's nice to wear screens and something with sleeves instead of shorts and tank tops.

let's get you outside and start you out with a shot of the philadelphia international airport. sun has not come up yet. it rises shy of 7:00 a.m. this morning. when it comes up you'll see sunshine first thing this morning only to see the clouds build by afternoon. look like this. we expect to get sunshine to start the day. the cumulus clouds will build quickly because the air is a little unstable upstairs, isolated shower is possible north and east of philadelphia. i think 90% of us stay dry, though. overall it's a dry quiet pattern for the next week to ten days. we'll start warming things up again as we head into the middle of next week. we're not expecting upper 80s and 90s like the past couple of weekends, we should manage at least highs in the low to mid 80s by the time we get into thursday and friday. comparing the weekends two weekends ago, 87, 82 the highs. last weekend, 88, 92. look at the difference this

weekend, 67 degrees is today's forecasted high. today we're forecasting a high of 70. overnight lows tonight are down in the low to mid 40s across the area. it will be very, very chilly out there. first thing tomorrow morning. speaking of chilly, it's chilly now. poconos 48 degrees, allentown, 55. we're showing 57 and wilmington, 56. it's thanks to this little disturbance right here, you can see that counter clockwise spin. it's what we call a short wave or upper level disturbance swinging across the northern tier states. albany, syracuse, experiencing rain pushing into the new england. it's far enough to the north where the moisture stays away from us, but close enough to pick up the clouds. starting out with sun and clouds build by the afternoon. the breezes start to pick up out of the north/northwest 15 to 25 miles per hour. especially at the jersey shore we'll see gusts as high as 30 miles per hour during the

communities. federal communications commission is calling on apple to increase public safety for natural disasters. they can activate chips in iphones that can pick up fm radio signals to provide vital information for places that have lost communication like puerto rico. apple showed resistance to the request. apple responded by saying newer model iphones into not support the feature. company owned by amazon said hackers got access to credit card information for in store and taprooms, whole foods is not saying what locations were targeted or how many customers were involved in the breach.

back everybody, 6:24 a.m., saturday morning, jersey shore, gusty breeze, very fall like. we have a moderate risk of rip currents. things are calming down compared to the big wave action we had over the past couple of weeks. 67 in the city. poconos, 5. one or two areas you pick up a spotty shower. after today, september is in the books. looks like it will go down 2 1/2 degrees above seasonal averages. the first a couple of week started out on the chilly side.

highs in the 60s and 70s. here comes the middle of the month we shot into the mid 80s and upper 80s and low 90s, especially this week here. now, temperatures are starting to cool down once again. the overall participant looks like, we're seeing the jet stream areas north of the line cooler than average, south of the line, warmer than average. south of the line we're seeing cooler weather working in from canada. the high histories -- hits the coast and the winds start is to shift. the winds shift out of the south/southwest and we start to warm up. the good news, it is warm you were on the way next week -- warm up on the way next week is not close to the what we had before in the 90s. phillies are looking for a new manager with pete mccannon relieved from the duties. sports director ducis rogers has all the details.

expressway at 1:00 a.m. in the westbound lanes of moore street. the man was driving a chevrolet envoy when he lost controlled and it flipped over. a 32-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot on the 300 block of water street. the victim was sitting in the passenger seat of a cadillac about 2:00 a.m. when he was shot in the neck and back. he was taken to hanheman hospital in critical condition. police questioning the vehicle's driver. time 6:33 a.m., a new jersey man who killed his 3-year-old son was sentenced to a decade behind bars, david creato junior pleaded guilty in the death of his son brendan, although his family maintains he is innocent. nora muchanic has the details. >> reporter: he has a new look, the ponytail is gone, david

creato is in a red jump suit. he was sentenced to ten years behind bars for causing the death of his son in 2015. christine shaw read a letter from his maternal grandmother. his mother was in court, a 14 minute video was played showing dozens of pictures from his short life. the only word he said in court was no. >> my grandson is not guilty. >> reporter: ma'am he admitted it. >> he admitted to stopping, well he took a plea bargain. >> reporter: brendan's mother and prosecutors refused to comment after sentencing. djcreato maintains he is

innocent. >> he was too big of a gambler the second time around, so he took the plea bargain. we believe in his innocence. >> what he pleaded to was recklessly causing his son's death. that's a far cry from what he was initially charged with which was intentionally causing his death. a woman as arrested for killing michael mckneu was found dead with a gunshot injury to the head. according to court documents, he wanted her out of his house. at some point she returned to the home and tampered with the crime scene to make appear there was a robbery. she was charged with burglary and tampering with evidence and

posing instruments of a crime. police in delaware county are searching for two suspects who were involved in a violent robbery surveillance video on wildwood avenue in east landsdown shows the violent crime in progress. it happened at 7:20 a.m. look at this, police say the victims were pistol whipped by the suspect despite complying with their demands. the robbers ran off with several hundred dollars in cash. delaware state police searching for the gunman who shot a quick mart employee. the suspect walked into the store in wilmington before 1:00 p.m. he demanded money and got into a fight with the clerk. the clerk was shot. the suspect ran away. the clerk was taken to christiana hospital with non-life threatening injuries. beginning tomorrow, septa will begin working on improvements to several rail stations this will impact

service for three straight sunday, take note. the work will adjust the schedules on the lansdale and doylestown and west trenton regional rail lines. crews will be updating overhead wires and tracks. shuttle busing goes into effect tomorrow october 8 and october 15. check the septa regional schedules for updates. a fallen marine was honored in gloucester city. hundreds of players came to dedicate the new athletic facility to corporal mark ryan who died back in 2004. bob brooks has the story. >> reporter: it was a perfect friday night lights kind of night. the mustangs were playing. >> everybody said we're playing

for mark. >> reporter: when serven says mark he is talking about mark ryan, you see now, ryan's name is on the score board and the monument at the gate to the field. corporal ryan was killed serving our country in iraq. >> we may be a small town, but we have a large heart. >> reporter: the entire ryan family was joined by so many to officially dedicated the mustang field mark ryan field. this is where he grew up playing. he was selected captain his senior year. along the with score board a flag pole was put in to honor him as well. it will always be lit. not only does his memory inspire the young players on the field, his mother said. >> he wanted you to be proud.

much going on out here, what we're watching is this fast-moving almost like a clipper system you would see during the winter months diving across the northern tier states like this, it's going to stay far enough to the north that we pick up clouds to the system. maybe a spritz or springle. you pick up the brief shower north of philadelphia, it's not going to last long. most of the moisture stays up here today. surface maps like this, high pressure in control at least in terms of the temperature. there's the low diving off the coast and pulling away. reinforcing the air that moved in here sunday afternoon. as we get into the monday and tuesday, the high shifts just like this, as the high gets farther and farther out to sea, the winds out of the northwest today will shift in a southwesterly direction by let's say, tuesday, wednesday,
