magee, jeff skversky, var bloomquist, and walter perez. sunday night. oj simpson is now a free man. >> developing news from spain where more than 800 people have been injured in clashes with the police. the big story once again on action news is the latest on the linkers crisis in puerto rico. thousands of troops and volunteers are now on the ground, trying to get those in need desperate help >> officials say things are slowly improving but entire communities still cut off. there's still no way to really know the true extent of the damage. late today, fema updated relief efforts the organization pronounced it's approved $7 million. more gas stations are back up and running and so relief workers are refueling generators at several hospitals. also, the airport in san juan can now handle more than 250 flights day.

at least 8,000 people remain in shelters across the island. right now, there are thousands of troops on ground once again in puerto rico. a team of law enforcement personnel and emergency mel workers left from joint base maguire dix on their way to st. croix to help there. action news reporter is there and joins us with more. >> reporter: the aircraft was supposed to take off around 4:00 but a little delayed about the amount of supplies particularly emergency vehicles that we're told once they land that crew will hit the ground running. >> the organization for the department of health ems task force and the state police are departing from maguire air force base on a humanitarian mission to provide aid and assistance to the people that were affected at the u.s. virgin islands >> arm with relief supplies, new jersey state police and the emergency mel task force boarded a cglobe master 3 aircraft bound

for the island of st. croix following irma and march madness. it holds up to 102 people and can carry 180,000 pounds. emergency personnel were strapped in on the sides, flanking the ambulances generators and other basic necessary tease loaded into the center to help residents who have been recovery mode for the last two weeks. >> we're bringing 30 paramedics in. >> reporter: this is a four and a half hour flight. that crew should expect is to arrive some time late this evening, and a second flight will be taking off from here again armed with more personnel and supplies. channel 6 action news thank you. delaware valley residents continues gathering supplies for puerto rico, bob brooks takes to his newark where they were several big donation drives.

>> he everyone is simply here to help not being paid or part of a specific organization but through the goodness of their hearts, they've organized what's turned into a massive effort to get supplies to puerto rico in mexico. it all started with this video, that man is santiago, after the natural disaster he posted it asking people to bring supplies to his barbershop new creation. he showed us pictures from his hometown in puerto rico. so much help has come they moved the efforts into this warehouse on dawson drive. he can't believe what this turned into >> everybody helped. little bit or big. everybody helped. >> reporter: none of this would be possible without volunteers. >> i just showed up. >> reporter: 10:00 sharp >> i said i was going to sign up. >> his friend said these supplies can't get to puerto rico or mexico soon enough.

can help with the relief efforts. we posted dan cuellar's reports from puerto rico. philadelphia police confirm they do have a suspect in custody in connection with the shooting of a young child, happened friday near 24th and norris streets in north philadelphia. sent a 6-year-old boy to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. they took the suspect into custody this afternoon. they're expected to release more information tomorrow morning. protesters taking place right now at fop headquarters in northeast philadelphia. members of black lives matters gathered outside a fund raiser being held for an officer who was fired after shooting and killing a suspect. trish hartman is live at the scene with details. >> reporter: walter, that protest is still going on right now. a small group of protesters have gathered with signs and a bull

horn and you can see the officers there standing outside the gates of the fop lodge. they marched down the road to the fop headquarters where a fund-raiser is happening to benefit ryan paul nel the police officer involved in the deadly shooting of 32-year-old david jones on june 8 in huntingdon park. last month commissioner ross announced he made several mistakes during the stop including shooting jones in the back as he was running away unarmed and that paul knell was suspended 30 days, ross also said that jones did not listen to the officer's orders during the stop and was carrying a gun illegally. about eight protesters marched to the fop headquarters to protest this. protesters with signs and a bull horn shouted and cursed at the officers who stood silently outside the lodge. >> this is an insult. your throwing a party for a pig.

break away moves by the northeastern region. the top court declared this illegal. oj simpson is a free man after spending nine years in prison for a robbery. the former nfl star walked out after midnight. the spokes woman said simpson was up beat and happy as he left after signing paperwork. the 70-year-old was granted parole back in july. he faces restrictions during his five years of parole supervision including disclosure of where he plans to live. world news sunday will have the latest on both stories coming up on action news or after action news at 6:30. police in chester are looking for a suspect who shot and called a man inside of a home there. the action cam was on scene in 1400 block of curling street. officers received reports of gunshots in this area at about 9:30. they found man inside the house with gunshot wounds. he was pronounced dead. so far, no arrests have been made. from delaware newsroom, two 14-year-old boys were shot

overnight in wilmington after leaving a sweet 16 party. teenagers just left when a fight broke out near the intersection of 31st and north market streets. someone opened fire into the crowd. both victims were shot in the leg. they were taken to christiana hospital. police are still looking for the shooter. in delaware, a 44-year-old is killed after running into oncoming traffic on i95. this was the scene this afternoon near a service plaza in newark. police say the man got off of greyhound bus at the rest stop there. paused at the guardrail and then jumped into oncoming traffic. several southbound lanes were shut down before 12:30 as a result. creating a significant traffic backup. a somber service today in bucks county honoring those who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty. the fallen firefighter and ems memorial service took place in doylestown. fire, emergency and medical service personnel from all over bucks county were there for the wreath laying ceremony to remember the 30 service members

. it was day of polish pride in philadelphia, the 9th annual polaski day parade stepped off at noon from the parkway in center city. it aired live on 6 abc, hosted by our own alicia. the parade recognized the life and legacy of american and polish heros. >> and the day began with an outdoor mass at 19th and morris in south philadelphia today. this was the start to have the st. nicholas authentic italian festival. the event is an annual celebration of faith and also featured great italian food and entertainment. bike groups from all over the area are riding to the jersey shore to give needy kids hope. the action cam was at the starting line in deptford. raising money for the children's fresh air home in north wildwood providing holes with children without a home a nice place to

stay in the summer. money keeps the home in good condition, sponsored by st. john's lodge number 115 mrc. the sun was shining brightly and everyone talking part in this year's walk for the american foundation for suicide prevention. among the goals of this event is shining a light on the fact that there is no shame in suffering from depression, 6,000 people took part in today's philadelphia out of the darkness community walk. it raised about $600,000 for educational programs across the delaware valley. thousands stood up here as well in a sunny day in villanova to take part in the children's hospital buddy walk and family fun day. in addition to the walking there were also games for the young centers and a special appearance by who else? the philly fanatic. it's a 16-year tradition raising money for the program. it supports the national down syndrome society. ♪ . ♪
