>> it is sunday morning and the big story on "action news" is hurricane nate making landfall for a second time overnight on the gulf coast. >> this is new video right here of the storm surge crashing ashore in biloxi, mississippi. water flooded homes anticipate knocked out power to businesses there. nate is the first hurricane to make landfall since monster hurricane katrina back in 2005.

[wind] a storm chaser was there as the water came up to the front door of the hotel/casino in biloxi. new orleans managed to avoid serious impact from nate. but elsewhere others fled for safety. first to maggie ruly live in mobile alabama, maggie, what are you seeing there. >> reporter: nydia and gray we've been seeing heavy rain and storm surge all night in alabama, but now it seems like the worst of the storm is over. hurricane nate coming ashore twice during the night first in southeastern louisiana and again on the mississippi gulf coast. the storm system lashing coastal areas with winds packing over 80 miles per hour. from the gulf coast to the northern regions of mississippi and alabama, residents bracing

for the worst. >> they have tornadoes in these things you don't know when they are going to pop up. a storm surge hitting low-lying coastal regions, heavy rain. >> you can see the rain off the gulf of mexico coming in easterly, piling up the water. >> reporter: causing massive flooding across the gulf coast. this family stranded in biloxi had to be rescued. now residents are waiting for all it to be over. >> we have water, gas, our generators are working. >> reporter: this couple after planning their wedding day for 20 months gets mothered in mobile. >> we hope everybody has a blast. >> i was holding my dress and we were dancing. >> reporter: nate is moving fast and already making its way out of the region. now the big concerns are heavy rain and flash flooding as this

storm moves inland. in mobile, alabama, maggie ruly, channel 6 "action news." >> we turn things over to chris sowers for an update. >> reporter: one thing maggie said which i was pointing out yesterday the fact that the storm is moving so quickly. that was the saving grace because the waters are so warm in the gulf of mexico, the caribbean, the tropical waters of the atlantic, anytime you have a tropical system like this moving over the warm waters you get an explosion in development. but the fact that the storm was moving quickly that prevented that from happening. mobile, alabama, this area, the storm traveled east of new or lorena's which put the worst of the storm surge in the mobile alabama and pensacola, florida and western portions of the panhandle in florida. this is booking along at 20 miles per hour. everything is calming down on

the gulf coast to mobile. 80 miles per hour north/northeast of biloxi, millions mis. it's moving at 20 miles per hour. maximum sustained winds at 70 miles per hour and gusts up to 80. the storm will book along the appalachians today and the tropical rain get here tomorrow, and by tuesday it is into southern maine. that rain will be siphoned north from the cold front which is approaching from the west. the canadian front will lower the humidity levels by the time we get into wednesday morning and calm everything back down, we won't feel the summer heat by the middle of the week. you'll see clouds out there today. because of the frontal system you'll get showers and clouds and spotty shower this afternoon. accuweather will go warm and humid with showers today, highs around 80 degrees. i'll be back along in just a few minutes, i'll have the rest of the the exclusive accuweather

"action news" at the scene the 4400 block of win gate street as firefighters worked to put out the fire. the call came in about 12:30 a.m. people were inside, but thankfully they made it out okay. the fire marshal is working to determine what started the fire. new from overnight, fire force add family from their town home in camden county. investigators say this could have been a whole lot worse. firefighters say fire walls prevented the flames from jumping to other communities in the manner hall community. we learned that three adults and two children who lived in the

home were not injured. they are getting help from the red cross. investigators on the las vegas massacre are frustrated because they cannot understand a motive. shots fired 58 concertgoers and wounded five hundred others. >> we thought we would find economic or political or social reason, or medical reason, we have not found it yet. >> authorities say the gunman's final days included a prostitute and gambling spree. officials are posting billboards in las vegas asking for tips about the killer. vice president mike pence joined in a prayer service for the victim and prayed for those who risked their lives to save others. the gun control comes to a debate on 6abc. two iraq war vets who serve in

congress talk to martha raddatz about gun rights on this week at 10:30. a child fell into a fire on the home on the 800 block of allentown road in telford. at this point, police are not saying if this was an accident or a crime. students in the pinelands regional school district are waiting to hear when they can go back to class because of air quality concerns. testing is complete. we'll pass the information along as we get it. tomorrow, columbus day is a previously scheduled off day in the district. a truck was filled with school supplies with teachers and students displaced by mold in gloucester county. holly glen school was shut down. the students were relocated to

three other schools while the issue was taken care of. president trump revisited the healthcare issue last night. he said he was willing to pursue a temporary deal. the president made the remarks while leaving the white house for a fundraiser in north carolina. he said healthcare reform should include block grants for the states. >> so basically if we could do a one year deal or two year deal, as a temporary measure cruel have block granting to the states which is what the republicans want, that's a repeal and replace. >> earlier yesterday, the president said he was willing to work out a healthcare deal with democrats. senate democratic leader chuck schumer said he would work with president trump to improve the existing system. this time next month, new jersey will have a new governor. 6abc will host a debate between

6. give you a shot of the center city skyline, it's warm and soupy, the temperatures above the normal high for this time of the year. it's not even 6:30 a.m. yet. when you feel the humidity later today you'll be confused as to what month it is. the eagles taking on the cardinals at the linc here, if you're doing tailgating showers, first thing this morning. overly during the game, it will be cloudy and temperatures 70 to 80 degrees. there could showers in the first part of the game. as the game wears on we'll see breaks of sunshine. 74 degrees, the normal high for this time of the year is 70. that occurs around 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon. it's early, we're showing 74. dewpoint extremely high it's 69. that's an indicator how much moisture is in the air. once we reach 70 or higher that

becomes oppressive. feels like the gulf coast states. everybody seeing the 70s. poconos 68. millville, 75. 74 a popular number for the i-95 corridor. we have a couple of areas of moisture heading this way, the dispatch is from the west in the form of a cold front crossing across the northern tier states. the second round is right here, this is obviously what was once hurricane nate. both areas converged on the region over the neck 24 hours or so, and bring wet weather to the area, much needed wet weather, we have not had a good soaking in 2 1/2 weeks. in some locations it's more than three weeks. future tracker 6, we're zoomed into the gulf coast states. nate is weakened into a tropical storm roughly 80 miles per hour north/northeast of biloxi, mississippi. the heavy rain bands are pulling

northbound from birmingham alabama, and montgomery, alabama. it's moves north over the next 24 to 48 hours. 9:00 a.m., expect clouds and patchy fog and scattered shower or two, we're not looking at a wash, but there will be some wet weather around. by the afternoon pretty much the same thing. we're looking at mainly cloudy conditions with one or two scattered showers around, as we get into monday throughout the afternoon we're looking at periods of rain, that's the remnant of nate, especially west of the city, where some locations could come awful close to 2 inches. one to two inches when all is said and done. forecast for today, 80 degrees in philadelphia. lots of clouds and showers around, a muggy 80 in reading today. allentown, the lehigh valley feeling like august, 80 degrees. millville, 82. dover, 82. cape may, 78. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, shows the muggies continue at least through tuesday and they they begin to back off a little bit. cloudy and damp this morning, a

tragic stories of people losing their lives in fire because they didn't have a fire alarm or escape plan in place. officials are trying to get the warning out about both things. mayor kenny was on hand for a sound alarm event in overbrook. red cross volunteers talked about fireproofing homes and being prepared in case of fire and dozen homes received new fire alarms.

had much wet weather over the past two to three weeks. speaking of wet weather we have some of it approaching the area now as you can see on storm tracker 6 live. we've set everything in motion. far western suburbs seeing showers, maybe every now and then you pick up something heavier than a shower. you can see reds and yellows in berks county. between 422 we see darker shades of green and every now and then a yellow or orange pops up. that would indicate a heavier downpour pushing east/northeast

at 20 miles per hour. spotty showers this morning. 73 degrees at 9:00 a.m. m 11:00 a.m., 75 degrees. 1:00 p.m., 78 degrees, 4:00 p.m., 78 degrees. the normal is 70 we're a good nine or ten degrees above seasonal averages. here's a look at tropical storm nate it came onshore at midnight. it made two landfalls, one southeast of new orleans and one west of mobile, alabama. the storm is starting to pick up speed. maximum sustained winds at 70 miles per hour. it will book along the spine of the appalachians and move into our neck of the woods after midnight tonight and into tomorrow. bringing heavy rain at times.

better. >> reporter: through the heroic and quick actions by her friends, we can report that the victim is in stable condition. bob brooks channel 6 "action news." >> a firefighter in delaware county was injured battling a house fire, a fire gutted a home in the 300 block of south new middle town road in middletown and part of the house collapsed. the flames were so intense firefighters had to retreat for a time. firefighters injuries are minor. a car crash outside a major tourist attraction was an accident not a case of terrorism, 11 people were hurt when a car drove up on to the pavement outside the natural history museum. the driver was detained for questioning. no word if they will be charge. similar crashes in london have put britain on a severe threat level which indicate terror attacks are highly likely. more details coming in about the las vegas shooter's

it or not, if you're watching the michigan state game yesterday, this was the heavy rain that blew through there, they were playing in a monsoon. this is the same line. it will push through here and weaken over the next few hours, but push through here in the morning hours. this is a cold front, a pacific front it will knock the temperatures down in the middle of week. this is what was once hurricane nate. the remnants will run along the spine of the appalachians and into the mid atlantic states after midnight tonight and through the day tomorrow, kind of gets siphoned to the north here. the heavy rain stays to the south today and move in here in the morning hours tomorrow. later this morning, we're looking at mainly cloudy skies, showers around from time to time. that continues through lunchtime, all of a sudden we'll go just cloudy peeks of sun, maybe a shower or two, you can see this model is not too bullish on the idea of any kind of moisture later this
