reported. >> this was the first hurricane to hit mississippi since hurricane katrina. in the meantime, accuweather's paul williams has more on the storm track. >> good morning, kendis, diane. as we take a look at what we're expecting to thursday we're looking for heavy to extreme rainfall throughout portions of the carolinas down the deep south but i see reaching to moderate to heavy showers throughout the northeast. nate will bring scattered showers throughout the entire northeast. although it's going to bring much needed rain watching out for flooding, slippery in spots. traffic will be a monitor throughout the northeast and mid-atlantic. kendis, diane. >> if paul williams says it will be a monster it will. thank you. major headlines out of washington. the vice president's early departure from an nfl game in just a moment. >> first to the explosive comments about the president from a fellow republican. senator bob corker says president trump could lead the country into world war ii. abc's arlette saenz has details live from washington.

strong words, arlette, especially from someone from his party. >> reporter: totally, kendis and diane. for political junkies this is the ultimate political smackdown. the pres a republican war of words erupting pitting tennessee senator bob corker against president trump. in an interview with "the new york times" corker slammed the president saying he treats his office like a reality show and could set the country on the path to world war iii. corker, the powerful chair of the senate foreign relations committee said, quote, in several instances he's hurt us as it reels to negotiations that were underway by tweeting things out and he didn't stop there. the senator added, quote, i know for a fact that every single day at the white house it's a situation of trying to contain him. that extraordinary rebuke of a president of his own party capped off a day of in-fighting

not often seen in public. last week corker who recently said he won't seek re-election made this jab. >> secretary tillerson, secretary mattis and chief of staff kelly are those people that help separate our country from chaos. >> reporter: the president lashed out sunday in a barrage of tweets. senator bob corker begged me to endorse him for re-election in tennessee. i said no and he dropped out. said he could not win without my endorsement. hence, i would fully expect corker to be a negative voice and tan in the way of our great agenda. didn't have the guts to run. the tennessee republican disputed those claims and fired back. it's a shame the white house has become an adult day-care center. someone obviously missed their shift this morning. this comes at a tricky time for the president's agenda. senator corker will be a key vote on tax reform and the president needs his help when it comes to the iran nuclear deal. diane and kendis, we'll have to see whether attacks complicate things for president trump?

and have to see what the president says as of 6:00 a.m. >> thanks, arlette. vice president mike pence reignited the feud with the nfl. pence traveled to his home state of indiana to to see the colts play the 49ers but left early after several san francisco players took a knee during the national anthem. pence tweeted that he would not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, flag or anthem. president trump then tweeted that he had asked pence to walk o out. critics say it was a publicity stu stunt. >> president trump is seeking in exchange for d.r.e.a.m.ers and ended the daca program and gave lawmakers until march to fix it. now he says any reforms to that program must be coupled with full funding for the border wall and overhaul of the green card system and a series of other demands. >> leaders chuck schumer and

nancy pelosi slammed the list as going far beyond what is reasonable. they had recently had dinner with the president and announced they had reached a deal on daca that did not include the border wall. in the meantime, the president has yet to explain his tweet that stated only one thing will work with north korea, but a top aide says there's no misunderstanding about the president's words. white house budget director mulvaney says the president is clearly saying that military options are absolutely on the table. las vegas has marked exactly one week since the horrific shooting rampage with tributes to those killed. hundreds gathered last night for a candlelight vigil where the names of all 58 victims were read outloud. the bright lights of the famed welcome sign and marquee signs went dark symbolizing the length of the shooting for ten minutes. the gunman's brother is now in nevada talking to the fbi. this as investigators conduct another search and share some

disturbing details about the shooter's mental state. here's abc's kenneth moton. >> reporter: the fbi back at the mesquite home of killer stephen paddock. authorities say the new search warranted executed after interviews with the gunman's girlfriend marilou danley. sources reveal investigators increasingly believe paddock had severe psychiatric illness likely undiagnosed describing paddock as standoffish, disconnected and anti-social. new chilling details about that note found next to paddock's mandalay bay perch. officials say it contained handwritten numbers for wind, trajectory and distance to maximize his shots and kills. one of the first responders t l telling "60 minutes" about the note. >> the elevation he was on, the drop of what his bullet would be for the crowd. so he had had that written down and figured out so he would know where to shoot to hit his targets from there. >> reporter: authorities are interviewing people like reno card dealer scott armstrong who says he came face-to-face with

paddock two months ago. >> he said he was terribly depressed and that his life was miserable. >> reporter: investigators are focused on paddock's final days that included hours of gambling and hiring a prostitute focused on september and october 2016 when paddock started to build his arsenal, buy more than 30 guns. >> he didn't talk to anybody. that's the scary thing about this shooter. >> reporter: kenneth moton, abc news, las vegas. we'll move on and take a look at your weather. what was hurricane nate spawned possible tornadoes as it moves across the carolinas. this one near polkville, north carolina and damaged some homes. the county fair was evacuated and behind the recommend naventss of the hurricane will be summerlike temperatures. new orleans will top out at 86. memphis will reach 90. the high in atlanta will be 80 but it will also be 80 in chicago. that's 15 degrees above normal.

customers have electricity. black lives matter activists gathered in salt lake city to protest the clearing of a white officer in the shooting of a black man. patrick harmon tried to run from officer as tempting to arrest him for several felony warrants and prosecutors say clinton fox opened fire after harmon turned to lunge at the officers with a knife. prosecutors say the use of force was justified. officer fox remains on modified duty pending an internal investigation. bowe bergdahl is expected to plead guilty to avoid a trial over desertion and misbehavior. he would held captive by the taliban for five years after walking away from his post in afghanistan. he was freed in a prisoner swap three years ago. the 31-year-old faces life in prison and a dishonorable discharge. we're also learning three men do face life in prison for an alleged isis-even inspired terror plot against new york city. two are only 19.
