grandson. tonight a frankford high student is surviving only because he's on a ventilator. the identity of the man accused of shooting him has been released by the police. he's only 18 years old, he's in custody. he is 18 as i said. there will be no bail set for him at all. sha in. , the franklin high junior will eventually succumb to the gunshot wound to the head he sustained wednesday afternoon on mcgee avenue during a fight among teens in oxford circle. >> this violent has to stop. they took my son for nothing. >> reporter: the alleged gunman 18-year-old muhammad goode was arrested by a police officer who witnessed the shooting from a distance and chased goode down. the current charges include attempted murder but that's

expected to be changed to homicide at some point. >> what we do know is a group from frankford that traveled all the way up to bustleton and mcgee, to the area of bustleton and mcgee looking to engage in confrontations with students from northeast high school. >> reporter: as this family's nightmare continues his maternal grandmother asked. >> you just can't understand how someone could take someone else's life. it doesn't matter what goes on. so, we need to get these guns off the street. he was 18 years old. that boy was 18. and shot my 16-year-old grandson. there's no reason. why does he have a semi automatic handgun? >> reporter: sharrie, all the carnage and tragic out here on the streets because of gun violence continues. i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news" at police headquarters in center city. >> heartbreaking story. vern, thank you. for the past week, crews have been decontaminating all

six schools in monroe township gloucester county where mold has grown into a major concern. this afternoon still no word on what will happen come monday. "action news" reporter bob brooks covering the story for us live now at the school administrationing building and bob test results are supposed to come back today. >> reporter: sharrie, good evening. they are supposed to come back but as you said, there's no word on that yet, also no word if there's going to be school for the district on monday and we spoke with a lot of parents today who say it's that lack of communication they're most upset about. what has the school district told you throughout the week? >> really haven't gotten any updates throughout the week. >> there's been no calls to the house. >> i haven't heard anything yet. >> reporter: right now they're in limbo. parents of children who go to school in monroe township, there's been no class all week because of mold issues and little to no communication from the district administration making it hard for a lot of families. >> i have this kid here who is trying to do the right thing. he wants to get an after

school job. >> reporter: that's patty marcelis. they warranted to pick up working papers but with everything no luck. the school is closed they won't get you sign id to get it. >> right. we tried to meet with school board members or any administrators at their headquarters on academy street but. >> the superintendent is not here at this moment. >> reporter: is there anyone here? >> no administrators. >> reporter: the district has shut down all the schools to test for or clean out mold from the school buildings. holly glen elementary has been shut down until further notice. for a district that has 6300 plus students, you can bet a lot of plans have been altered or ruined. >> i couldn't imagine parents that have work that count on their children to be in school. i was infuriated. >> reporter: at this point more than anything those just want transparency a solution and more community involvement moving forward. >> regular checks, regulations, accountability. >> i hope that the town maybe

gets together and goes to more school board meetings instead of when they just feel it's needed. >> reporter: okay, back out live here the reason why we're facing that minivan is just about 20 minutes ago the school superintendent pulled up. i spoke with him briefly. he says he's going to have an update soon. for now we'll wait and see. reporting live in williamstown bob brooks. >> a tractor-trailer caused a major problem at the base of the walt whitman bridge this afternoon. somehow it ended up on its side blocking the ramp from 95 south onto the bridge. chopper6 was overhead about noon as police responded. we don't know the exact details of the crash but officers say the driver appears to have lost control. no word on any injuries at this point but that scene has since been cleared. >> a fire caused part of a vacant house to collapse in trenton. firefighters first got on the scene there around 1:30 this morning to find the three story building completely overtaken by fire. this along the 1000 block of

south broad street. well, the fire was so bad that the back of this home collapsed. crews called in a second alarm and residents living nearby were safely evacuated. >> it is gloomy out there and a little bit chillier than we're used to but it's friday. >> it is friday. >> yeah. >> and maybe the weekend will be better. let's get the latest now from meteorologist adam joseph who is outside with no coat today, though. hey, adam. >> i call this refreshing. a lot of people call it cool and chilly. it is cloudy with an easterly wind and temperatures closer to where we should be for this time of year. right now 65 in philadelphia. new york city 64 and baltimore. 73 degrees in pittsburgh so there's warmer air to the west and that will be puncturing in here as we go deeper into the weekend but as you can see the clouds they have been locked in all day long and there's a little trough, just a little front, little atmospheric energy down to our south and east bringing a couple showers to the coastal communities of delaware, maybe cape may, down to virginia and that could

spill a couple of showers our way late tonight but overall this evening on a friday night, temperatures don't move all that much. they drop by a degree or two between 7 o'clock and 11 o'clock. again, cool, cloudy with a low temp only going to 64 tonight which is actually close to 10 degrees above average and as we go into the weekend, especially on sunday, this is 3 o'clock in the afternoon, signs of summer along with humidity back into the 80's for the east coast. but then there's a bigger change to come in post sunday. we'll talk about all those changes and monday will be much brighter than the other this weekend, alicia we'll have all those details coming up in that full accuweather forecast. >> adam thank you. president donald trump had tough words for iran today about its nuclear ambitions. he called the country a rogue regime and the world's greatest sponsors of terror. he is now calling for more sanctions and he's pushing congress to make changes to the current nuclear deal. he says if lawmakers can't do that in a "very short period

of time" then he's prepared to terminate. it calls the current deal one of the worst the u.s. has ever entered into and after his press conference today he placed the blame on his predecessor. >> we will see what happens with iran. we're very unhappy with iran. they have not treated us with the kind of respect that they should be treating. they should have thanked barack obama for making that deal. >> well, he fell short of pulling the u.s. out of the current deal, he did decertify the agreement and also imposed new sanctions on iran's revolutionary guard for supporting terrorism. president trump vows that his policy means and he said today, that iran never acquires a nuclear weapon. the iranian foreign minister today said it's america who has made clear it's "lack of adherence to the deal and its spirit." the governments of france germany and the united kingdom also issued a joint statement saying they're concerned by the possible implications of

the president decertifying the deal but they do remain committed to ensuring that it is maintained. so, now await and see how this all plays out in congress. brian. >> all right, alicia, thank you. meanwhile attorneys general from several states announced plans today to sue the trump administration. the move comes in response to the president's decision to stop paying subsidies intended to lower out of pocket medical costs for millions of americans. now in taking that action, mr. trump said the subsidies aren't legal. california, connecticut, kentucky massachusetts and new york are among those threatening a lawsuit. they argued that ending the subsidies will make insurance premiums skyrocket to force some consumers to give up having coverage. >> let's check the "action news" traffic report. >> matt pelman standing by to get us where we want to be. looks like a slow go there matt. >> we're working to end our week but first we have to get home, brian and sharrie and this a little bit of a feat on friday afternoon usually this friday afternoon being no

exception. roosevelt boulevard extension northbound locked up already on this friday afternoon from the schuylkill up to broad street but the even bigger problems are on the southbound side of one coming out of mercer county into bucks county, that's where there's a crash on the pennsylvania side just off the trenton-morrisville bridge blocking one of the two lanes past pennsylvania avenue. and there are the results, just 5 miles per hour coming into new jersey along the southbound side of one. so, i wouldn't, i would head on the scudder falls bridge that's 95 southbound or even the turnpike connector bridge. one southbound is not where you want to be heading into pennsylvania. a crash in the work zone at girard of a pushed off to the side now but we're treated to speeds like 6 miles per hour as you come northbound away from the walt whitman bridge. even though it's on the side it's still causing a substantial delay. warning for you if you're heading to the poconos this weekend i'll do so soon. they're closing the northeast extension at 9 o'clock tonight between lehigh valley and

last night's performance and the magnitude of the win could have major implications down the road. >> yeah, in case you haven't heard yet the birds pulled out a dramatic win against the panthers in charlotte last night. jaime apody joins us now. jamie a lot to be excited about. it's been an impressive road show from this team. >> yeah, it's been a long time since we have been able to be excited. i'd say let us. it was a huge victory and like you said maybe we can start thinking into january. hm. consider the eagles beat another top team in the nfc on the road on three days rest on national television, the birds who won once last year away from lincoln financial field are now five and one having played four of their first six games on the road so it feels like they're for real. the eagles played great in all phases. last night the defense picked off cam newton three times and the offense turned two of those into touchdowns. carson wentz's new go to guy his tight end zach ertz hooked up for two scores. this tied the game at 10 in the second quarter.

moving to the fourth, eagles clinging to a five-point lead, wentz to nelson agholor defended by nobody, love that. puts the birds up 70 i've 17. -- 20 to 17. jalen mills seals the deal. eagles win 28-23. they have the best record in the nfc. time to take these guys seriously. doug pederson says he's trying to keep his players from getting caught up in the excitement. >> it's tough its a fine line because the players are -- you know, they're going to read and they're going to listen to the -- all the media outlets on tv and stuff and just hear how people are talking about them and saying how good and how great they are, but i got to keep it real, too and that comes from me and i'm -- yeah, we're winning these games but there's a lot to fix. >> coach please don't fix

houses on the 1900 block of east somerset street. the project was organized by rebuilding together, a nonprofit that helps low income military veterans and seniors. now, when the group put out call for volunteers, they say the response from the officers was overwhelming. >> new life is coming to an old school in hunting park. work is under way to turn roberto clemente middle school into a affordable housing project. city and project leaders broke ground this afternoon. the building on the 3900 block of north fifth street will have 38 units and some retail spaces as welly. >> philadelphia mayor jim kenney is pushing hard for amazon to build its second north america headquarters in the city and is tapping some young talent. he stopped by the university of pennsylvania's wharton school of business to hear ideas from those talented students. the school organized a competition for students to come up with pitches to lure that online giant to the steve city of brotherly love. amazon needs each city's official proposal by next

thursday. >> local teenagers preparing for life after high school got some very exciting news today. [applause] hugs and cheers today at crystal ray philadelphia high school as students were accepted to college right there on the spot today. this is the school's third annual instant college acceptance day. more than 40 graduating seniors participated in interviews with college admissions representatives and during that time, students had their transcripts on hand, their act scores and college essays which then led to them being accepted to college right there on the spot today with more than five colleges taking part. >> awesome. >> pretty cool stuff. >> listen, the last five stories have been very positive. >> yes. >> meteorologist adam joseph. >> what are you telling me to keep that positivity going. >> yes. >> oh, the second half of the weekend. >> okay, that's something. >> not everything but. >> a little gloomy out there as we take a look there. sure, i'm the bearer of bad news this afternoon.

with all that cloud cover overhead on sky6 but the good thing is at least it's not raining here on this friday evening. but again, a little bit on the coolish shied with winds -- side with winds coming in off the atlantic. it is a cloudy start to the upcoming weekend for saturday but we will have one more summer-like day on sunday with that sunshine returning and then the coolest temperatures we've felt so far since early spring will be coming in on monday night and tuesday morning. right now our temps are coming in at 63 degrees for allentown, 63 trenton, 67 beach haven, 65 philadelphia, and if you think there's a chill in the air these numbers are pretty close to our average for this time of year. in fact right now 65, 66 which is near our normal of 68 degrees but look at how fast those temperatures tumble. the normal one monday from now as we get into november 57, 2 months from now december, 45 and in january our normal high

is 40 degrees so take these 60's, 70's and our 80's coming in here, soak it all in on sunday. as we look at satellite and radar, there's a lot of cloud cover along the midatlantic and as you can see some moisture down to the south here and some of that could spiral through late tonight and throughout part of the upcoming weekend but again, it is far from a washout here. friday night lights for your high school huddle games, cloudy and damp, jackets will be needed, a chill in the air, 60 degrees basically from the kickoff to the end of the game. those temps earn going to drop all that much but with kind of that low level moisture definitely feeling a little on the damp side. tomorrow morning at 8:30 there you can see the clouds continue to lock in and there's a little bit of a blip of green there west of dover. again, there could be a little bit of drizzle in spots. that continues into tomorrow afternoon with those clouds hanging around and especially southern areas near the coast, there could be some showers tomorrow afternoon while most areas stay dry. as we wake up on sunday morning, if you're up early

you're going to be going, where is the sun, where is the warmth because there's going to be a lot of low clouds and fog to begin sunday morning and then as we get into the late morning, afternoon, 1 o'clock there you can see that sunshine puncturing in and that's when temps will be offer to the races. as we look at the four day at 4:00 forecast it is warmer tomorrow despite it's cloudy like today of 74 degrees. the winds turn more off the land as opposed to off the water and in that morning fog gives way to sun sunday afternoon. humid as well, 84 degrees but then a big drop by 20 degrees or so on monday with a cool north-northwest wind a lot of clouds maybe an early shower and then the sun is back in full force, it's nice but it's cool with a high temperature of 64 and there you can see those overnight lows in the 40's for the city, maybe 30's for the suburbs. we'll have that seven-day forecast coming up for you in the next half hour. brian. >> all right my friend. thank you. more "action news" coming up right after this. >> ♪

>> an event in south jersey celebrating heroes who risk their lives to keep communities safe today. this afternoon's luncheon benefited the atlantic city police foundation and specifically acknowledged two officers for their bravery. officer josh biddle was shot in the head when responding to a robbery in september of 2016. his partner, tom mccabe returned fire, hitting the suspect. well, they along with teams of law enforcement who responded that night and the doctors who saved biddle's life were all recognized for their efforts. >> hundreds of people in our area are fighting cancer through research and treatment. but many more are also involved. volunteering to drive patients organized walks and make phone calls. today we meet one woman helping others to beat the odds of breast cancer. >> oh, this is a good shirt. >> even in summer betsy williams is preparing for the making strides against breast cancer walk in october. this elementary schoolteacher could spend her break on the beach but that's not in her dna. >> my mom was -- she was going

to school to be a nurse. my mom was a caregiver of everybody. my mother taught me to do these kind of things. >> and when she lost her mother to breast cancer, betsy began volunteering with the american cancer society. >> i just was trying to find a way to deal with my grief. i wanted to turn it into action some way to make a difference. >> she helped out at one event then another and another. she's also made a fundraiser at her school an annual event. >> the past 11 years have raised well over $100,000. >> and she's always in the midst of a making strides walk every year, usually at the registration table. >> my favorite part is welcoming the people. i love seeing people come back, especially survivors, that they're still there and they're healthy and healthier than they were the year before. >> betsy also speaks to groups recruiting other volunteers. she firmly believes all the researchers and trials of new treatment will cure cancer. >> if my little bitty part can help then how can i not do it. >> and you can join betsy and

yard sale than an office today. all those belongings aren't for sale. they're stolen. and investigators are trying to get those items back to the rightful owners. "action news" reporter gray hall joins us now from media, delaware county with more on this story today. hi, gray. >> reporter: hi, sharrie. well, this was a major bust by police. we're talking about thousands of dollars worth of equipment. tonight the suspect locked up in jail but police are still not sure what he was planning or doing with all of that equipment. it kind of looks like a garage sale but pennsylvania state police say what you're looking at are items a thief collected while on an illegal shopping spree in delaware and chester counties. >> we have close to a hundred 50 items that were recovered which were power tools, weed whackers, leaf blowers and we're asking anyone that has had a recent burglary to contact us. >> reporter: police arrested the suspect after investigating recent burglaries. they say the thief had a garage full of stolen items. investigators believe he had

been on this crime spree for about two years snatching up the high priced equipment. >> our state troopers do a great job, they work real hard for us. this time the good guys won. >> yes, everybody wins. eagles win, great game, eagles win, i win, thank you. >> reporter: state police put the items on display and allowed victims to come and retrieve the stolen equipment. those who showed up needed a receipt serial number or some form of identifying information to recover their stolen property. >> i run christie landscaping and probably $4,000 worth of stuff. >> reporter: a couple thousand maybe. >> yeah maybe, anything. a couple hundred would be nice. >> reporter: residents like bill galloway admit they were shocked when they got the call from police that their stolen equipment was relocated. galloway you a reunited with tools including this first power tool. >> that's pretty cool.

>> reporter: all right, so back out live here's a tip from police. they say if you buy a big ticket item, keep the receipt also jot down that serial number and etch your initials into that equipment. if you could not make it out today, not to worry, contact state police they will try to reconnect you with your stolen property. life in media, gray hall channel6 "action news." brian. >> thank you. police released surveillance video of an armed robbery inside a north philadelphia dunkin donuts on wednesday. it happened just before noon in the store at the 900 block of west girard avenue. now the suspect was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and red bandana to cover his face. when the worker refused to open the register the man jumped over the counter and broke into the register himself. now as the suspect ran from the scene he ditched some of his clothing. he was seen a short time later in a different store with a group of people. anyone who might have information about this crime is urged to contact police. a woman was rushed to the hospital after she was attacked by a dog today in southwest philadelphia.

chopper6 was over the scene as police responded to the 6100 block of upland street. no word at this point if the woman owned the dog that bit her or if it belonged to someone else. we're working to find out the extent of her injuries. >> turning back to our forecast on this friday, definitely feels like fall out there. >> yeah, weekend lies ahead. looks like kind of a 50-50 kind of deal. meteorologist adam joseph spanned of standing by with the details. >> we're going to warm up. 80's by sunday so return of summer-like air. in fact today as we have been dealing with the clouds, we've been dealing with the wind especially ripe along the shore and as we take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan, as you can see most of the area is dry. there's a few scattered showers with some drizzle from atlantic city down to cape may, to the eastern parts of southern delaware near rehoboth and bethany beach but most of that is going to hold at bay to our south as we get into our friday. as we take a look at our camera live on sky6 in cape

may there you can see some drops on the lens there as we have a very choppy atlantic ocean, almost a washing machine out there with those winds and again a little bit of that many -- that drizzle but most that of confined down to the south. high temperatures so far today 65 in philadelphia 3 degrees below our normal of 68 degrees but notice the 70's in raleigh, cincinnati and chicago. that will be our air for tomorrow. and then 80's in wichita, memphis and atlanta. it will be here for sunday but that summer-like air that returns is not going to last very long. we'll talk about back to normal temperatures getting in here for next week with that seven-day forecast, brian, in just a little bit. >> all right, adam see you shortly. thank you. most of us can't imagine running one marathon in a month. much less 31 of them. that's exactly what one marine veteran is doing. yes, 31 marathons in 31 days. rob jones' journey started yesterday in london. well, today he began a state side tour along kelly drive in philadelphia. and get this, jones lost both

technology symposium this morning showing off some of the cutting edge advancements that will one day transform how electricity is made and delivered. regulators and advocates were on hand to see everything from solar generation to smart city technology. the event was called the first of its kind for delaware. inventors from around the country are showing off their futuristic creations that the drexel brook event center. the latest technology in drones 3-d printers and robots on display at this manufacturing summit hosted by the delaware valley industrial resources center. the event brings together industry leaders and local and national tech companies. >> montgomery county welcomed a new business to the neighborhood today. crazy errands opened its new worldwide headquarters in norristown. the occasion was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a big outdoor bash with games and also food trucks t crazy aaron's makes and manufactures thinking putty for kids and also for adults. the company says it was looking for a growing local

>> authorities in las vegas responding to critics today saying they stand by their time line of the deadliest shooting in modern american history. sheriff lombardo held a press conference to clarify. lombardo says at 9:59 p.m. on october 1st, stephen paddock sprayed 200 rounds from his suite into the hallway but doesn't believe the security guard was struck until around 10:05. that's around the same time the gunman unleashed a barrage of bullets on the festival below. lombardo's time line contradicts other officials that say six minutes passed between the guard being shot and the start of the concert rampage. now that led to questions about whether lombardo's office bungled the response. >> in the public space, the word incompetent has been

bases when i look at these maps and speeds on this friday the 13th brian and sharrie, speeds like 10 miles per hour on the northbound side of 202 in chester county its a mess because of a crash up around the 30 bypass in exton. the crash is actually on the grassy median so it's impacting traffic both ways but impacting the northbound traffic more as you come north of west chester. think about using pottstown pike, maybe 352 as another alternate but the northbound side of 202 is not where you want to be at this hour. and the blue route has a crash in delaware county, southbound side at the route one media bypass, lima springfield. here it is. all is left is one suv at this point. speeds are slow southbound from villanova down to that scene. they're closing the northeast extension beginning tonight at 9 o'clock and then it's going to remain closed all weekend its about a 20-mile stretch from the lehigh valley interchange up to mahoning valley. you'll be detoured starting at

up in the poconos, 53 degrees here this afternoon. we've been kind of socked in that cloud cover from upper parts of new york state right through the midatlantic and the deep south. there's a bit of a trough which is kind of a little bit of energy in the atmosphere. it's almost like a cold front, warm front that is draped itself right along the coastal communities with some scattered showers and as that pivots to to the north and west there could be some periods of drizzle or light showers in spots overnight tonight especially like right now cape may county and parts of sussex county in delaware. cloudy damp overnight and damp not meaning it's going to rain all night but it just feels damp out there with that northeast wind four to 8 miles an hour with a couple of spotty showers around, 55 in the suburbs, 60 degrees for center city. front is off to our north tomorrow and the difference with tomorrow, we're not going to have that wind coming in off of the atlantic like we've had the last couple of days. it will be more of a land breeze tomorrow. but that should move the temps back up to 76 so it's much warmer despite still a lot of clouds here for the beginning of the weekend on saturday and then all of that washes out
