friday night, i'm monica malpass along with rick williams. the big story on "action news" is two major projects that will impact motorists. >> one will take several years to complete the other funded by the turnpike commission starts in a few hours. >> john rawlins live with more. >> reporter: hi there. long term story here is a study of the blue route. if it works, we may all be driving on the shoulder there in a few years. the turnpike story far more immediate. if you're heading north on the northeast extension and plan to go past allentown, you better get going or otherwise you're going to have to pack your patience tonight. >> actually just asking drivers and the traveling public to avoid this region if at all possible because the turnpike will be closed starting tonight at 9 o'clock through monday october 16th at 4:00 a.m. >> reporter: the region involves the northeast extension above allentown, the toll road from exit 74 mahoning valley to 56 lehigh valley will be shut down for 55 hours. the official detour marked in

blue uses u.s. 22, routes 33 and i80. expect congestion and delays. >> it is going to be slow, yes. >> reporter: this time lapse video from the turnpike of a western pennsylvania project shows what's expected to happen. for months, crews built a pair of replacement bridges parallel to the existing worn out bridges. overnight crews will demolish the old bridges and the new units will slowly slide into place. >> the slide of the two bridges will happen tomorrow morning at some point. >> reporter: the plan, the new bridges to be ready for traffic early monday. meanwhile congestion on two lane portions of the blue route and adjoining i-95 south on the mind of penndot secretary leslie richards today. >> penndot is now planning to implement dynamic part time shoulder use. $8 million earmarked to study something called hard shoulder running. if green lighted this blue route shoulder would be set up as a part time third traffic lane. penndot points to i-66 outside

washington, d.c. where overhead signs now signal when drivers can use the shoulder as a traffic lane. >> what we are hoping to come up with is a plan that will allow us to add a lane in each direction on the blue route when it is needed. >> reporter: now, officially that's a multi year study of the blue route but penndot seems to like this idea. it's already considering it for the schuylkill expressway. all of this, though, would be years off we're told. the more immediate issue for drivers tonight if you're heading north on the northeast extension and you plan to go past allentown, as we say, after 9 o'clock, that stretch of highway after allentown north will be shut down and you will have to detour. live in plymouth meeting, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> all right, john, thank you. in other news tonight this is 56-year-old warren southard of lower providence township. officers were conducting an online investigation into alleged child porn sharing.

they say they stumbled upon an anonymous account which they is he led them to his home and his computer. he was taken into custody yesterday and is now being held on $100,000 bail. >> an overturned tractor-trailer caused major traffic tieups along i-95 in south philadelphia today. chopper6 overhead where 95 leads to the walt whitman bridge. take a look. it's not clear what caused this big rig to flip on its side but it did block all lanes as you see the driver was not seriously injured. it took crews several hours to clear that scene and open all lanes back up to traffic. from our new jersey news room, a fire caused part of a vacant house to collapse in trenton. firefighters first got on the scene about 1:30 this morning and found a three story building engulfed. the fire in fact was so intense the back of the house collapsed. crews called in a second alarm to get the necessary backup equipment support to fully knock out that blaze. residents living in homes on either side were safely

evacuated. >> well, day two of the greater leadership exchange is under way inly if. mayor jim kenney was there this morning to address the attendees. the economy league is meeting at the national museum of american jewish history on independent mall. the initiative is aimed at developing leaders of business, civic and government organizations into visionaries. the group connects industries to help shape the future for the greater philadelphia region. >> ♪ >> all right, now a developing story involving the u.s. current agreement with iran over its nuclear ambitions. today president trump announced that he's not happy with iran and he wants congress to come up with solutions to make the nuclear deal better. he says if lawmakers can't do that in quotes, in a short period of time he's prepared to "terminate the deal." trump added iran has to behave much differently. the president's worlds is drawing reaction from iran as well as other world leaders. more announcement on the announcement and the response from tehran coming up in our

next half hour. early today president trump tried to strike a different tone on storm ravaged puerto rico which is still reeling from hurricane maria. trump tweeted this. "the wonderful people of puerto rico with their unmatched spirit, know how bad things were before the h's. i will always be with them. the message has a positive tone but it also allude toss recent comments by trump that were not so positive. he tweeted yesterday that the federal aid can't be there forever suggesting that puerto rico will have to shoulder more responsibility for its recovery efforts. >> firefighter its battling the wildfires in northern virginia -- california are starting to contain some of the bigger fires. there are new concerns with winds set to pick up again. tonight 17 fires are still burning and they have scorched more than 200,000 acres. at least 31 people are dead. abc's elizabeth hur reports tonight. >> reporter: the current california wildfires now the deadliest fire disaster in

state history. so far killing at least 31 people, burning an area as large as new york city and destroying thousands of homes and businesses. firefighters now racing against time with winds expected to get stronger overnight and through the weekend this as new questions emerge with some families claiming the staff at a senior center in santa rosa left dozens of elderly residents to fend for themselves. >> why did nobody stay behind to ensure that everybody was evacuated? >> reporter: while homeowners in communities still threatened continue to watch the forecast nervously. >> here we are and this looks like world what are war two. >> reporter: gene welch and mike hib barred already overwhelmed by the destruction surrounding them. >> i've been here 39 years and to find it still standing, i don't know what i did but it must have done -- i must have done something right somewhere along the lines. >> this is probably the only three homes from here for

nuclear deal and other top stories from today. and you can watch all that following "action news" at 6:00. >> turning to other news now, an event in south jersey celebrated heroes who risked their lives to keep communities safe. this afternoon luncheon benefits the atlantic city police foundation and specifically acknowledged two officers for their bravery. officer josh biddle was shot in the head when responding to a robbery back in september of 2016. his partner, tom mccabe returned fire hitting the suspect. they along with teams of law enforcement who responded that night and the doctors who saved biddle's life were all recognized for their efforts. wilmington's first production brewery since 1955 is now under construction. wilmington brew works is set to open in the spring of next year. it's being built on the site of the old hartford electroplating company vacant since 2000. the owner of the new brew works says they will offer their ipa's and craft lagers. the specialty will be their

wood fermented wood aged sour beers. >> the contrast to a brew pub we focus on food. the sole focus is the quality and production of our beer. >> they hope to add a restaurant or food hall on the other end of the building and they're looking for a tenant. >> see what matt pelman has on tap on a friday night. how are things tasting. >> traffic always hops on a friday evening, it's always really busy rick and monica and this evening we've had two separate accidents along 95 here in fishtown. northbound side by girard avenue, this is the second of the two. you can see a fire truck in here now, a couple penndot vehicles as well. they do have the right lane blocked as you come northbound. we were already jammed because of the first accident. now it's even more jammed, 4 miles per hour as you come northbound from the walt whitman bridge its a parking lot. stay local through the city, if you can. maybe even broad street as an alternate. westbound schuylkill is a little better but 8 miles per hour over there.

had a crash farther west by city avenue, luckily that's now on the shoulder and we've been watching one on the blue route, 476, southbound side by the route one media bypass but all that's left there is one suv on the shoulder so at this point the southbound delay on the blue route is pretty much normal, 28 miles per hour coming down from villanova. have a new crash in upper moreland by the turnpike overpass along davisville road. some westbound slowing on the turnpike as well as you head toward fort washington. but at least in chester county our crash along 202 that gives us big delays coming north of west chester is now gone. 100 remains jammed toward the 30 bypass. in delaware 95 is busy because of that new work zone by county road. we'll check it again, rick and monica, coming up in the next half hour. >> thanks matt. >> flu season is here. that means of course it's time for a flu shot. >> still to come on "action news" tonight, health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman will disspell some of those rumors that come along with rolling up your sleeve.

this robbery is asked to call police. a woman was rushed to the hospital after she was attacked by a dog today in southwest philadelphia. chopper6 over the scene as police responded to the 6100 block of upland street. no word if the woman owned the dog that bit her or if it belonged to someone else. >> a kensington community is experiencing philly pride after receiving a makeover from some dedicated volunteers. an organization called rebuilding together philadelphia sent volunteers to east somerset street today to renovate 11 homes. those volunteers include philadelphia and septa police officers. the projects range from removing old carpet to repairing dry wall improvement that is will help residents have a safer and healthier place to live. >> rebuild philadelphia together organizes about four of these rebuilds a year and when you attend one of these things, my first time volunteering, i saw all types of people from corporations,

about 15 minutes ago a vehicle flipped over here in the eastbound lanes just past conshohocken. looks like they're trying to free someone from the vehicle. we've got emergency crews kind of surrounding it here. fire crews just arrived on the scene a couple minutes ago. and as you can see, on the eastbound side traffic is only barely squeezing by on the shoulder of the roadway. as we watch live here comes another fire truck pulling up to the scene of this overturned vehicle. it's on its roof eastbound approaching the conshohocken curve. westbound got a police officer temporarily blocking the left lane so westbound we're also seeing big delays start to form. it is a major mess in fact the fire truck is having a tough time right now getting to the scene of this crash. vehicle on its roof, schuylkill eastbound just past conshohocken. we're watching as the second fire truck pulls up to the scene of the crash. so, the speeds are not good whatsoever. 11 miles per hour eastbound, 12 miles per hour westbound. at this point you definitely want to think alternates to the schuylkill expressway like ridge pike, like route 23, like route 30 lancaster

around 74 degrees and then add 10 degrees to sunday. if you wake up early sunday, you're going to still see a lot of lolo clouds and fog but that will burn offer to sunshine in the afternoon and it turns windy and muggy as well with temperatures again in the middle 80's. as we look at the present numbers as we go towards sunday, again with that forecast high of 84 degrees, another warm weekend on tap for this fall season. in fact, four of the last five weekends we've had at least one of the two days with highs in the 80's so pretty exceptional weekend after weekend if you like the warmth. it is hanging on. 63 in allentown, 66 philadelphia 2 degrees shy of our normal high for this time of year so if you say it's chilly out there, that's the way it should be here as we head into mid october, 64 in cape may. there are the clouds. there's a few, again, scattered showers in southern delaware, southern parts of cape may county. some of that may work its way inland overnight for a spotty shower but most areas it's just cloudy, 55 in the

suburbs, 60 degrees for center city. front to the north tomorrow, the clouds still in play here but again turning warmer with a land breeze, not that wind off the water, 74. as we get into sunday low pressure races into new england and northeastern parts of canada, really ramps up and that's going to send a wind out of the southwest so that's where we go from fog to sun, muggy as well with that high in the mid 80's and then high pressure behind it brings in a blast of fall for the beginning of next week. in fact we're going to have the coldest start to our mornings that we've seen this fall season. in fact, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, a lot of clouds tomorrow, 74 degrees. again, brighter but windy, humid and warm sunday, 84. and then that front comes in on monday with clouds, maybe a quick shower and a cooler north-northwest wind of 65 and it's early tuesday morning we'll see the coolest temperatures. 46 in the city, maybe upper 30's in the suburbs to start tuesday but then tuesday through friday, it is sunny
