you, 7:00 a.m., saturday, october 14. here's a look at some of the stories we're following on "action news." a search is on for a driver who hit a man and kept driving in north philadelphia overnight. parents have new information on what's plaguing their children's school in new jersey. details on what's forcing kids to attend other schools. plus, get ready for changes to healthcare. president trump is ending subsidies to insurance companies, we'll tell you what this means for you. those stories and more but first outside we go to meteorologist chris sowers tracking the forecast. chris i have shorts, should i keep them out? >> reporter: and the flip flops, as long as gray kept the flip

flops and sands out, we'll be fine. tomorrow afternoon we're back in the 80s. yesterday we managed a high of 66 and day before that it was 67. and priority that we were in the 80s. tomorrow, boom, back into summer. 67 in reading. philadelphia, 62. millville, 65. cape may, 64. we have patchy fog this morning and drizzle. right now i have a little mist taking place on city avenue. three miles is visibility report in dover and philadelphia. 8 miles in trenton. 5 in the poconos and 7 in allentown. just slow it down on the roads this morning, traffic is moving along just fine, but the roads are wet, sidewalks, everything is damp this morning. storm tracker 6 live showing the steadier rains are through ocean and monmouth counties just a little bit of light rains for the barrier islands stretching from point pleasant beach through sandy hook. everybody else else seeing clothed skies and drizzle and

mist. temple taking on ucon at the linc. start time, noon. 70 degrees the first quarter temperature, 4th quart, 73. somewhat on the cool side, but warmer than yesterday. speaking of warm weather, tomorrow back up into the 80s and most of next week is above average, as well. i'll have the details in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast in just a few minutes. gray? >> thank you for the update. happening right now philadelphia police are searching for the driver who hit and killed a man in port richmond earlier this morning. it happened along the 2100 block of allegheny avenue right near the csx freight tracks at 2:30 a.m. the man believed to be in his 40s was hit by a vehicle and thrown on to the sidewalk where he died. police say the driver kept going. they are working on a descrips of the car that hit -- description of the car that hit the victim. a man is accused of

stabbing his wife in their north philadelphia home. the happened on north orkney street. the man stabbed his wife after they got into an argument. the victim's husband was taken into custody. he is facing a long list of charges. time 7:03 a.m. if you're just waking up with us, pinelands regional high school shut down indefinitely. parents flocked to an urgent meeting where they learned air quality is no longer a concern. jeff chirico explains why school leaders closed the doors. >> i'm happy about that. >> reporter: parents were upbeat when they left an emergency meeting when they learned that the high school will be closed until further notice. the decision was made after a screw from the roof fell on a student. >> we have to ascertain what the issue was and check outline the screws that are in the roofing. the number of screws there are

tens of thousands of them. >> reporter: this comes zahree leaf for some parents who called for the school to be closed during air quality concerns. abest tows -- asbestos was found. >> my kids were having issues, we thought was seasonal, come to find out it may not have been. >> reporter: high school students will take classes at the junior high for four hours in the morning and junior high students 4 hours in the afternoon. >> they will be getting half the instruction time they are getting now. >> reporter: what do you make of that? >> i'm not happy about that. school officials say classes won't resume until the roofing work is done. despite the inconveniences, parents and students are glad classes will no longer be held in a construction zone. >> i believe it's better than being in the school with what's

happening. >> there's a lot of questions that need to be answered, but we're a community and we'll come together. >> reporter: the acting superintendent said the students will receive the mandated minimum of four hours of instruction daily. the roofing project was supposed to be complete in november, that will not happen. officials could not say when the school will reopen. in tuckerton, ocean county, jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." >> there's an update on the mold problem that has plagued schools in monroe township, gloucester county. some of the schools that were closed for a week because of the mold will be open on tuesday. holly glen elementary will remain closed. the students will attend classes in other schools for several months while the remediation project is underway. white hall students will not be back at their buildings for at least a week while cleaning is done to remove mold there. 7:05 a.m., there's

important information to tell you about, if you're traveling on the northeast extension of the pennsylvania turnpike this weekend. a major shut down north of allentown underway. crews are replacing the 60-year-old bridge over contractors -- cracker sport road. it will take 55 hours to replace the bridge. the northeast extension expected to reopen at 4:00 a.m. on monday. penndot planning some changes to the two-lane stretch of the blue route in delaware county. they are between i-95 and the commodore barry bridge. engineers they are designing a system to occasionally open the shoulder to traffic in order to alleviate that congestion, this is still about four years away. a similar system is already being used outside of washington. all right, so get ready for changes in your healthcare. president donald trump says that

payments for subsidies that reduce out of pocket costs for low income americans will come to an end. it is the biggest move yet by the trump administration to kill the affordable care act. serena marshall explains it has many consumers concerned. >> reporter: it could be a difference of hundreds of dollars a month for americans like marcy shelton. >> it scares me. >> reporter: the retired skin cancer survivor living with a fixed income worried that the end of the subsidies means shell no longer be able to afford her headlight insurance. the president taking on the promise to repeal and replace by himself. >> we're taking a different route than we hoped because getting congress, they forgot what their prejudices were. >> reporter: the white house said the insurance payments they were make be for months were

unlawful and did not have congressional funding. the attorney general said they cannot spend $7 billion a year without congressional approval. >> no reason except spite and cruelty. >> reporter: the congressional bucket office predicts premiums to climb to% by 2018. -- 20% by 2018. many working on a bipartisan solution to authorize the payments. the president said he will work with democrats on a deal. he argues that his decision hurts insurance companies. >> that was a payoff to nrs -- insurance companies. >> i am not a dead beat, i pay my bills, i've worked hard all of my life.

>> reporter: many argued to keep the payments show they can work an agreement. shah arena marshall, abc news washington. >> we have learned that half of the country has joined a lawsuit to stop the president from halting the subsidies. delaware and pennsylvania are two of 18 states that plan to sue the trump administration in federal court to keep the money flowing. 400,000 in pennsylvania could see premiums spike. 20% in new jersey, 252,000 people would be impacted by this. delaware governor said thousands of low income residents would be hurt by the president's move. 7:10 a.m., free at last, a family that was taken by the taliban in afghanistan is back home safe and sound in canada. we have the details on their release. plus a home used in a popular tv show being pelted with pizzas what?

>> in north jersey a police officer was suspended after he was recorded on video grab ago teen girl by the hair. the 17-year-old twin sisters say they were getting pizza when the officer approached them. davis grabbed one of the girls by the hair, both girls ended up on the ground. the school's principal tried to intervene and was put in a head lock. students from orange high school marched to police headquarters yesterday to protest what they

wind. the moist easterly flow. when the winds shift off the water it's like the marine layer on the west coast. you get the low-level clouds. as soon as you take off cruel hit this cloud deck immediately. maybe you're only in it for ten seconds. once you break that low-level cloud deck, it's clear. if we could get the winds to shift out of the of the south or southwesterly direction we would see sunny skies. that's not going to happen today. we'll be stuck in the low-level clouds. perhaps a few peeks of sunshine. but it's tomorrow when the winds shift and we get into full sunshine and warmer temperatures. with that said let's go over to storm tracker 6 live, we have patchy drizzle out there this morning mainly across ocean and monmouth counties. a lot of this is close to the coast. everybody else seeing cloudy conditions with a little bit of

mist occasionally picking up drizzle, something like that, not a big deal. roads are wet, though, allentown, 60 degrees. philadelphia, 62. millville, 65. dover, 63, atlantic city, 65 degrees. the dewpoints have come up a little bit. anytime you get higher than 60 it's a little bit humid. most of the area sitting at 60 if not higher. millville, 65, dover, 62. you can see how low the clouds are, you can see low, they are not showing up on the satellite image. if we could get the winds to shift out of the of the southwest, the clouds would burn out quickly and we could get into sunshine. that will not happen today. it will happen tomorrow. future tracker 6 shows clouds and drizzle through midday. tomorrow morning, we'll see low level clouds and patchy fog and

>> reporter: it's been very, very warm, the last couple of days have been chilly, but the weather pattern has been very, very mild. i'm surrounded by sugar maples we have no color on them at all in the middle of october. we have nothing on the maples as of yet. 58 degrees, that's up there in northern bucks county. quakertown, 58. bethlehem, 58. warminster, 60. media, 60. center city, 62. low to mid 60s in south jersey. fortescue, 63. dover, 63. blueberry countries in hammonton, 63 degrees. satellite and radar along with action radar. lots of moisture off the coast, all that is working north towards long island and southern new england getting into rhode island and eventually connecticut and places like boston. they will see the wet weather. for us we're stuck with an easterly winds. that means more clouds and

scattered drizzle. it's mainly a humid-type of day. 74 degrees is the forecasted high. we have an approaching cold front if we don't get a shower there, look what happens the rest of the week, high pressure takes control, wall-to-wall blue skies. lots of sunshine and no chance of wet weather if we don't get the shower on monday, most of next week is dry. m i will be back with the details in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. >> philadelphia police are investigating a shooting in the wissinoming section that left a man dead. it happened near a dollar tree on the 4,000 block of benefiter benefiter -- benner street. officers found a 48-year-old man shot in the chest. the victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. firefighters were called to

a two-alarm fire that damaged two apartments in haddon township, camden county. the fire was reported at the cedar court apartments on whitee horse pike and cuthbert boulevard. crews got it under control and no injuries were report. in california, the fight continues to douse killer fires. 35 people are dead. hundreds more are missing. firefighters are battling winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour. making it more challenge to bring the fires under control. >> sir, you have to go! >> that is a sheriff's deputy making a desperate rescue of a disabled resident and her husband in sonoma county, california as their home burned early monday morning. the flames all around them as

the officer makes the rescue. elizabeth hur has the latest. >> reporter: a dawngt -- daunting task for firefighters attacking wildfires. nearly 6,000 homes and businesses destroyed in area large than new york city burned to the ground. it will be weeks to determine the causes. more than 2800 homes were destroyed in santa rosa alone and surrounded by the devastation including cars, trucks and all the furniture. take a look at what we found. a hand. of homes still standing and the homeowners say they can't believe it. jean and mike overwhelmed by the instruction everywhere they -- by the destruction everywhere they look. >> i've been here 39 years. >> this is only three homes for three-quarters of a mile that way and one mile that way.

molestation started. the city of chester, delaware county has surpassed an on ominous milestone. there have been more murders in the city than all of 2016. a 30-year-old man was shot in a hail of bullets on thursday on sunny side avenue. he died from the injuries yesterday afternoon. he is the 27th homicide of 2017. police are asking anyone with information about that most recent shooting to give them a call. time 7:36 a.m., president donald trump did not rip the iran nuclear agreement as he promised, instead he accused iran of violating the landmark accord and directed lawmaker to say fix it. the president announced he would not certify the deal. it was negotiated under the obama administration. the president accuses iran of committing multiple violations of the agreement and wants congress to come up with solutions to approve the nuclear

deal. under the accord iran promised to freeze their nuclear program, and in exchange u.s. would lift sanctions. >> the iran deal was the worst one sided transactions that the united states has ever entered into. >> president said if lawmakers don't strengthen the deal he will terminate it. harvey weinstein may get kicked out of the academies of arts an sciences. the academy's 54 member board will meet to decide whether he should remain a member. weinstein has denied the accusations and reportedly seeking treatment for sexual addiction. the woman who claimed that rapper nelly remained her on his tour bus last weekend is

dropping the charming and refusing to testify in court. through her lawyer, the women said she believes the system would fail her. nelly was arrested last saturday night in seattle. he was released several hours later without being charged. the attorney called the rape claim fabricated. happening next week the radnor township board of commissioners will elect a new board president. the special meeting has been called for the election. phil are was in court wednesday on child pornography charges. by law he cannot be kicked off the board if he refuses to resign. albright college in reading has cut two players from its football team. they decided to demonstrate unity by kneeling together during the coin toss and stand together for the anthem. the two players did not fully

kneel, therefore they were in violation of the unitsy code. backup quarterback was cut from the team for refusing to stand during the national anthem. from our delaware newsroom, the first production brewery in wilmington in 60 years is under construction. wilmington brew works is set to open in the spring next year. it's built on the sight of the harper teal electroplating company. the owner of the brew works said they will offer ipas and craft loggers the specialty beverages will be wood fermented and wood aged sour beer. >> we don't focus on food. the focus will be on the beer. >> reporter: they hope to add a food hall on the other end of the buildings and looking for a

stop an attempted car jacking at a michigan gas station. a woman was pumping gas, a man creeps into the car and drives off. the woman dives into the passenger side and puts the car into park. a truck driver saw what happens happening and grabbed the suspect by the shirt. he was able to getaway, the woman with as not hurt. >> okaying a farm worker in minnesota treating to spread joy by dressing up. tom harvested sugar beets. he wanted to make his co-worker smile, so he started buying costumes and wearing them in the field every single day. he said a near fatal car crash changed his outlook on life. he helps in the bean harvest and he has costumes ready for that,

disturbance here is pulling north into boston area. because of an easterly breeze we're pretty much stuck in the clouds today. tomorrow the winds shift out of the southwest, we break the marine layer and we'll see sunshine. all the clouds move north into new england. you can see the high. once we break the easterly wind this is all high pressure, all you have to do is going 6, 7,000 pete feet up. all of a sudden it's completely clear. if you're at the airport when you start taking off, when you hit the cloud deck, it only lasts 5 to 10 seconds you break its completely clear. that's what we'll see tomorrow, high pressure. frontal system approaches from the west on sunday, we're prefrontal winds shift out of the southwest that's a southwest win flow. we're in the 80s. cooler air arrives monday and tuesday, cloudy conditions today, drizzle this morning and cloudy throughout the remainder of the afternoon.
