>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program with ducis rodgers, meteorologist cecily tynan and jim gardner. >> ♪ >> wednesday night and a mysterious rumbling is heard and felt from the jersey shore to philadelphia. and a newark teacher is the first from delaware to receive a prestigious award. but the big story on "action news" tonight is new information about the shooting last night that killed two philadelphia teenagers. police have now identified the two 16-year-olds who took fatal shots to the chest. salvador dee knuble and caleer miller. today their friends and their families gathered in grief at the spot of the shooting on south 12th near ritner in south philadelphia. "action news" reporter walter

perez is live at police headquarters. was there, any word on the search for the gunman? >> reporter: well, investigators tell us at at at s point that this heartbreaking story started yesterday about 8:20 with two groups of people gathered, someone pulled out a gun and now two promising young lives ended way too early. the gunfire erupted just before 8:30 last night. the surveillance video captured the scene as neighbors ran for cover. police say they believe it was one person who opened fire killing two 16-year-old victims. today friends and family gathered outside the home of salvatore dinubile. he was a junior at saint joe's prep where he was a beloved member of the hockey team. >> teammate and close friend owen kelly says there's one thing in particular he'll miss the most. >> his laugh. he had a real funny type of laugh. he had a big smile. so it's a shame.

>> we're one giant community. today we had a tremendous mass where everybody grieved together and there's a lot of counselors there and it's very tough on these young kids. >> reporter: also killed was 16-year-old caleer miller a junior at the thomas campus of mastery charter school. friends and loved one say caleer was a soft-spoken hard working young man who was always respectful. >> called me mr. goldie every time he see me. i see hum coming from school, going to school or whatever, you know, going to play ball and he spoke and he was very respectful. >> caleer was a very nice young man. he was very respectful and we will never know what he had in front of him because of the tragedy that has occurred. >> reporter: so far no suspects or arrests but investigators say they believe the gunman and the victims knew each other. meanwhile two more families are left to pick up the pieces after act of senseless violence. >> where does it stop? where does it start? who is giving these kids these guns? and it's crazy. >> reporter: as you heard, saint joe's prep held a mass today in sal's honor and

counselors are being made available at mastery charter's thomas campus for anyone who knew and loved caleer. anyone who knows anything about this case is asked to call police. reporting live from police headquarters, walter perez channel6 "action news." jim. >> ♪ >> thank you walter. we continue to follow breaking news from logan township, gloucester county. a multi vehicle accident at the tolls of the commodore barry bridge. the accident involves a box truck and two other vehicles. this is a live picture from chopper6. we are working to find out more details but right now traffic is backed up on the new jersey side. state police in delaware are investigating the burglary of one of those big storage facilities. this one on east lee boulevard in wilmington. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live at the scene of this crime. vernon, what are the details? >> reporter: details, jim, the owner of this storage property is not providing any at all tonight. state police are on the case.

they have video with which to work but right now, they could use some help from the public with any tips or ideas or lead ins they can get. the victims are sad and they are bitter. >> on the ground so it's a whole bunch of them with the cut locks. >> reporter: this is one of the overnight monday into tuesday morning burglary victims who rent storage space here at sentinel self storage onley boulevard. a long respected outfit. the manage?er is refusing to answer questions clearly embarrassed by what happened. they called 180 customers to come take a look and see if their unit was among those hit. we're shielding their identities. >> i thank god that they didn't go to the back of the storage because that's where my flat screens are. it's so tight in there you wouldn't have had time to do it. >> two unknown suspects wearing dark clothing cut a hole in the northwest perimeter fence and gained access to the property. once inside the fence line

they made forcible entry multiple individual storage units. >> reporter: state police tell me they're still downloading the surveillance video which shows the use of metal cutters to get onto this property. >> people crying back there. it's people personal items. you bring your stuff to a self storage and you think it's safe and it's not. >> i struggle hard and for them to take from my babies that ain't cool. you need to replace all them people stuff 'cause it ain't cool at all. >> reporter: wouldn't it be nice, jim, if the bandits would do that but you can always bet they've sold off that stolen loot by now. i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news" live in wilmington, delaware. >> thank you, vernon. a rumbling sensation reported by residents in south jersey and across the delaware valley remains a big mystery tonight. calls from folks living in cape may county to philadelphia and bucks county came into "action news" at about 10:30 this morning. the u.s. geological survey said no earthquake activity

has been recorded. sonic booms caused by military jets prompted similar reports in the past but officials from the new jersey air national guard 177th air wing out of atlantic city say don't look at them. we'll find out presumably in a couple of days. or not. drone6 got as close as it could to the overnight fire that destroyed a south street landmark in philadelphia. bridget foy's bar and restaurant. crews had to take down part of the structure today to prevent any possibility of collapse. meanwhile many in the neighborhood are just plain devastated. "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is live at second and south street. sarah, you've got the full story. >> reporter: jim, they're still working right now to take down that part of the building. it is looking like the entire structure may need to be leveled. they're still pouring water on hot spots right now that keep flaring up. investigators want to get down to the basement where they believe the fire started.

the restaurant does look to be a total loss. neighbors are deeply saddened to lose this long time bar and restaurant here at second and south. >> i've been crying crocodile tears all day. >> reporter: neighbors looked on, some with tears in their eyes as they watched the demolition of bridget foy's, a landmark here at second and south, a place many considered a second home. >> this was our spot. this was our cheers. and the family, i mean, the family. >> reporter: bridget foy was on hand as the family business came down. she was consoled by some of the regulars. her father opened the restaurant in 1978 in a building that stood for decades before that. >> it's part of history. >> reporter: a lot of memories. >> a lot of memories, yeah. >> reporter: firefighters were called around 1:15 this morning after reports of smoke pouring from the building.

onlookers couldn't believe they were seeing bridget foy's burning down. >> it was just a shock. like this place has been around here for so long and it's like i don't know what's going to happen without it. >> reporter: 100 firefighters battled the blaze for hours pulling back because of the intensity of the flames. >> very dangerous, very difficult, very stubborn fire. >> reporter: 11 people were forced from their homes. nearby businesses filled with smoke and water. two dogs at a groomer's next door were killed. this was the overhead view from drone6 this afternoon. neighbors are hoping the foy family can find a way to rebuild. >> it's the heart and soul and the people who live here. >> reporter: as we look back live still quite a bit of activity hours after this blaze broke out. again, they're trying to extinguish a hot spot there right now. the atf and other investigators were on the scene throughout the day today largely because of the size and scope of the fire. they will be back on the scene

tomorrow. they told us it could be days before they know the cause and origin of this devastating blaze. live on headhouse square, i'm sarah bloomquist channel6 "action news." jim. >> sarah thank you. jefferson university hospital and the jefferson health system confirms it is laying off several hundred employees. a statement from the ceo says the staff reduction amounts to about 2 percent of 30,000 employees. the workforce. half by layoffs, about half by attrition. maybe just under 2 percent. jefferson has recently grown from a three hospital system to 13 hospitals. ceo stevenasko says that growth has prompted the hospital to re-evaluate its staffing needs. a teacher in newark got quite a surprise this morning. students and staff at newark

"action news" reporter nora muchanic has the story. >> it's horrifying. like why. >> reporter: that's the question port richmond animal lover kim schmidt is asking. her 16-year-old cat stinky got out of the house saturday night. when she located the long hair mix on monday, she showed up at the city's acct animal care and control team shelter to find that stinky's right rear leg had been amputated. >> i lost it. the first thing i know she's shaved and she had no leg and so i lost it. >> reporter: stinky was born with and learned to get around

with a crooked curl on her back leg. the shelter says when stinky was brought in she had no identification and she clearly had a medical issue with her foot. >> her back hind leg with width they ared malformed. her pau was turned backwards and it appeared painful to us. >> she got around fine. there was no reason for them to assume anything. there's all places like that -- if you're going to and rate on something you should take a x-ray at least. >> reporter: the shelter doesn't have an x-ray machine and officials say the amputation gave stinky a better chance of being adopted rather than euthanized. >> you come to pick it up from the shelter and she's missing her leg. that's shocking. we do feel very sorry that she had to go through that. >> reporter: kim is considering legal action even though the shelter says it was within its rights. right now stinky is still recovering and learning to walk on three legs. in port richmond, i'm nora muchanic channel6 "action news". >> a sword use in the revolutionary war has been donated to philadelphia's

newest museum. this sword was used by colonel jonathan pettibone of connecticut. it is considered rare because it's inscribed by both its original owner and the person who made it. the sword was donated to the museum of the american revolution by one of pettibone's descendants.

>> temperatures dropping temporarily through tomorrow and we'll climb as we get towards the end of the week back above normal. as we take a look at the weather center live on sky6 a beautiful shot here with that golden glow on the horizon as we're looking westbound and it was philadelphia west this afternoon that did see a good amount of sunshine throughout the day but if you're in the city you got a mixture of that sunshine and clouds and then especially eastbound in new jersey, it was a pretty cloudy and cool afternoon, but the rain at least held off the coast. but really nice shot here as we say so long to the sun for today. 59 degrees right now in the lehigh valley. 58 reading. 57 in lancaster. still holding onto 65 in the city of philadelphia which was the high -- the high was 66 so 65 was 1 degree below the high for the day so we're slipping back to the 50's now for millville as well as wilmington and at the shore right around 60 degrees. but a big difference from this time yesterday. it's about 13 degrees cooler in allentown than this time yesterday. 7 degrees cooler in philadelphia.

12 degrees cooler in millville. all because of a front that pushed through. and that front brought a good amount of soaking rain especially along the shore this time yesterday. as we take a look at some of the highlights or let's just say warm lights of october, for philadelphia, we've had 20 days this month where the high temperature was over 70 degrees. that's tied for the second most in the month of october when you're taking a look at all of the historical facts for philadelphia international airport. the average temperature for the month so far is 66.2 degrees. that factors in the daytime highs along with the nighttime lows and that is the record warmest so far when you take a look back at the record books and it's the fourth month this year where temperatures have averaged 5 degrees or better for the month so it's been a very exceptionally warm fall month and it looks like we're going to kind of back that off here the next couple of days. satellite and radar, there's that line of clouds east of

philadelphia that continues to kind of pivot through the eastern shores of new jersey, delaware. there's that clear slot of air that will temporarily move in with some clouds overnight tonight. so, we'll call it partly cloudy and seasonably cool, 43 allentown, 44 philadelphia, 43 millville, dover coming in at 44 degrees. but tomorrow those clouds are going to race right back in. we have a really cold pool of air that push through during the day tomorrow creating instability clouds through most of the day and that will keep temperatures in the upper 50's for most of us, could touch 60 for a time in philadelphia and could also be a quick little shower in spots. then on friday, saturday, high pressure builds, 60's, 70's, beautiful, brighter, milder and then the jet stream takes a dip on sunday and that will link in with tropical moisture from the south so cold front and with that tropical moisture one to 3-inches likely on sunday creating some street flooding and it will turn windy even behind that system monday. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, a sprinkle
