bed tonight. reporter sara bloomquist is live in camden tonight. sara mayhan has a lot of trouble with the law before and now this. >> reporter: he is just 19 years old and has three felony convictions and at least three arrests since becoming an adult and tonight he is charged with shooting a police officer and remains behind bars and that officer's colleagues are credited with quick thinking that likely saved his life. >> delron mayhen is charged with figure murder and other crimes. he is charged with shooting the officer last night and the tweet calls him a hero cop. there is nothing short of heroic the way the officer responded to the situation and the way his

fellow officered responded. >> this is the scene as officers rushed to be at the officer's side the shooting happened at 8:15 and the officer approached three men acting suspiciously and the suspect ran off. he pulled out a gun and shot him at point-blank range in the thigh and tried to shoot the officer in the face and the gun jammed and the officer got the weapon away and subdued the suspect. >> and i said are you okay? are you okay? and he said i'm shot. >> he said training kicked in and we shouted for a tourniquet and one officer had it in his vest. and it was applied. >> and that may have saved the officer's life. the trauma doctor advised us if not for the tourniquet and the

rapid response of getting him into trauma as quickly as they did his situation would be worse. >> that was the time you think about it we needed for a brother in blue and everything worked out great. >> as you said the officer had just one year on the force and remains under observation at cooper university hospital tonight at least until tomorrow. that bullet went straight through the thigh and did not hit bone or major artery. he is expected to make a full recovery. sara bloomquist, channel 6 "action news." newcastle city workers made a gruesome discovery along the delaware river, the crew was cutting high weeds and came across a body on the shore line. investigators say it is that of a man in his 20s and the body appears to have been in the

facebook page and it's in honey brook and you can see how the fall foliage is out and people ask me why do the leaves change this time of year because trees no longer produce chlorophyll. it's used in the spring and summer for leaves to become food factories for the trees but when you have less sunlight and cooler temperatures, the chlorophyll breaks down and this exposed different pigments. it produces the reds and purples and always in the trees produce the yellows and oranges and a lot of that going on despite the fact it doesn't feel like fall. last thursday it felt like fall. 58 degrees and felt like mid-november but today 75 degrees that is more typical for late september. and even now it's still really mild. philadelphia 71 and trenton the same and allentown and reading in the 40s and right now 65 degrees and cape may 67 and
