towards the car on conestoga road the driver took off at a high rate of speed. there was no police chase. but a few minutes later they got a report that the car had crashed into another vehicle and flipped over on newtown road near abrams lane. when they arrived two women were still in the car, a third had fled on foot but they caught up with her and took her into custody. two of the women suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital to be checked out. as you may have seen from chopper6 there was a lot of merchandise scattered on the road, items that fell out of trash bags like sheets still in packaging. police are investigating reports that the women might have been involved in shoplifting. that's the word they're getting which of course, may explain why the driver took off at a high rate of speed after being stopped for a motor vehicle violation. it's something that police are looking into as part of this motor vehicle accidents in which the driver lost control, struck a black suv and then flipped over on newtown road shutting down the traffic here that's passing through abrams road but as i just indicated

the scene has now been cleared. the investigation still ongoing. we're live here in radnor, i'm dann cuellar channel6 "action news." back to you guys. >> all right, dann, thank you. in other news tonight it's been the target of intense scrutiny protests and vandalism over the past few months. after much debate and public outcry it's been announced that the frank rizzo statue is moving from the place it has stood for more than three decades. >> and now to the city's decision to relocate that statue from its current spot in front of the municipal services building. >> for some philadelphians the statue of the mayor represents a mayor of division and discrimination and those beliefs led to many protests demanding the statue be removed. "action news" reporter trish hartman live in center city tonight. trish, you have reaction to the news. >> reporter: that's right, rick. after asking for the public's input the city says it received almost 4,000 submissions and announced today that the rizzo statue will be moved from thomas

paine plaza. the frank rizzo statue in front of the municipal services building will soon have a new home. >> rizzo was a bully. you know. that's the way i feel about it. i'm not italian, i'm a black american. >> reporter: in a statement, managing director for the city said earlier this year we initiated a call for ideas on the future of the rizzo statue. we carefully reviewed and considered everyone's viewpoints and we have come to the decision that the rizzo statue will be moved to a different location. frank rizzo rose up through the ranks of the philadelphia police department and served as the city's mayor from 1972 to 1980. while he is known for decades of service to the city, many associate him with racism and minority oppression. calls for the statue's removal escalated this summer after a deadly white nationalist rally in charlottesville. the rizzo statue was egged and a man was arrested after the statue was spray painted with the words black power. city council member helen gym.

in our previous reports about this ongoing debate. we also have an in depth look at why frank rizzo is such a polarizing figure in philadelphia. you can find it right now on 6abc.com. >> a small plane crashed near the vanzant airport in bucks county this afternoon. chopper6 hd overhead in tinicum township about 2:00 p.m. that plane came to rest upside down at the edge of the field near some trees. we still don't know if the pilot was injured or if anyone wells was on board. investigation -- vectors are working to determine what caused the crash. an officer reportedly found illegal drugs and a canine was called in. investigators also recovered several pounds of marijuana and the weapons you see there. the driver and passenger were taken into custody. >> well, the republican tax plan is drawing praise and criticism from both sides of the aisle tonight including lawmakers in our area. "action news" sat down with

delaware senator chris coons and pennsylvania senator pat toomey. senator coons says while ambitious, the tax plan misses the mark. senator toomey believes everyone will benefit. >> this package as of now should cost $1.5 trillion over 10 years. that's a lot more money to borrow from the chinese and what is in there for the middle class increase in child credits or child deductions increase in some of the individual deductions, doesn't make up for the fact that the vast majority of that 1.5 trillion is going to the biggest corporations and the wealthiest individuals. >> everybody is going to have a savings here. this has been designed that way from the beginning. that was always the intention and that's going to be the results but moreover, the relative burden of the tax load is going to continue to be spread roughly as it is now. >> both senators do agree that they want this to be a bipartisan effort. turning to our weather now friday night and hopefully

you've enjoyed the september-like temperatures out there because it will be turning colder this weekend. taking a live look tonight from our sky6 cameras at the ben franklin bridge and parts of 95, clouds and sun for much of the day but when will it all change? meteorologist cecily tynan outside with the answer. first weekend in november and perhaps going to feel a little like november, cecily. >> it certainly will rick and to answer your question, it will all change tonight. the cooler air moving in tonight but it's still pretty mild right now. officially in philadelphia the temperature is 72 degrees. washington, d.c. even warmer, richmond 81. but if you look to the north and west, behind the front that's moving through now, temperatures are in the 50's and 40's. and double scan live showing that this moisture -- this front is moisture starved, barely has anything at all. maybe a little bit of a sprinkle here or there but the front is passing through right now and once it does, it will usher in much cooler air. so, future tracker showing tomorrow morning you're stepping outside, definitely grab a jacket.

propaganda images on the suspect's home computer and cell phone. the 20-year-old suspect -- the 29-year-old suspect from uzbekistan most recently lived in new jersey with his wife and three children. he is facing terror charges after officials say he gave a full confession. >> army sergeant bowe bergdahl learned today he will not face any addition in ally time in jail. today a military judge decided bergdahl would be dishonorably discharged from there army and lose a rank as well as forfeit a thousand dollars pay for 10 months. bergdahl was captured by the taliban where he spent five years in captivity. the 31-year-old faced up to life in prison. world news tonight with david moo muir will have much more and the latest on the investigation into that new york city terror attack. you can watch all of that and more following "action news" at 6:00. >> time now for a check of our "action news" traffic report friday night. >> all right. let's take it live to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center. happy friday, matt. >> it's been a crazy week rick and monica.

we're ready to get this weekend started but first on the way home some issues. problems in the way like here in great valley chester county northbound side of 202, had some fire department activity off to the side. it was blocking the right lane but now it's pushed off to the side and southbound a couple extra minutes on the travel time but it's not too bad. elsewhere on 202 in king of prussia right by the pep boys word of a crash. that's 202 at salmon boulevard. watch out for that. we keep watching the situation that dann was telling us about in radnor township, newtown road at abraham's lane is where that vehicle flipped over. it's jammed in the area. church road would be a local alternate. had an earlier crash on the pennsylvania turnpike westbound side out around malvern, route 29. that's off to the side so speeds are increasing but it's still sluggish as you come west of valley forge and elsewhere in chester county still have that bad crash with the vehicle into the pole in kennett township. burroughs run road is blocked as they try and clear that. one more in pennsburg a new wreck along knight road at kutztown road. emergency crews responding

this is a nice place. yeah. he plays basketball with lauren. steve called, fairly frantic. you know, he had a premature baby and i think he had just been given the diagnosis that she had down syndrome. lauren brought out the best in me. she made me a different person. deep down in his heart he feels for people who are disadvantaged. lauren's a light in everybody eye. she's the spark that has started the fire. the goal is to keep places like this open so all people, regardless of disability, have an opportunity for employment. see, i love you. i love you guys too. you know that. yeah. if you'd have told me three years ago... that we'd be downloading in seconds, what used to take... minutes. that guests would compliment our wifi. that we could video conference... and do it like that. (snaps) if you'd have told me that i could afford... a gig-speed. a gig-speed network. it's like 20 times faster than what most people have.

now more businesses in more places can afford to dream gig. >> ♪ >> go ahead. >> after you. >> okay. >> accuweather forecast friday night. >> we complete each other sentences. meteorologist cecily tynan with the weekend outlook. >> hey, guys, temperatures definitely dropping over the weekend. lots of clouds out there. head over to the "action news" weather center and live on sky6 taking a look at the commodore barry bridge and these clouds are associated with a cold front that's moving through as we speak. and behind that front, we have a reality check. after two days in the 70's, tomorrow the high only 59 degrees. that's close to where we should be for this time of the year. the average high for tomorrow is 60. we'll see a mixture of clouds and sunshine and then saturday night a warm front starts pushing in. what this will do is bring us rain late saturday night into sunday morning and sunday lots of clouds, not quite as cool, 65 degrees. a damp start with a little bit of some drizzle, even holding into the afternoon. can guarantee though this weekend will be one hour longer than any other weekend

this year. and that's because we turn our clocks back late saturday night when you go to bed, officially daylight saving time ends on sunday morning at 2 o'clock. fall back one hour and the sun will set sunday evening at 4:53. so, reality check there. right now temperatures still very mild. philadelphia 72. the same in trenton. atlantic city airport 75. cape may 74. allentown and reading beginning to cool off, 69 degrees. and satellite and radar showing the system a lot of cloud cover with it but very limited in moisture. had a few scattered sprinkles here or there so not much moisture but it will bring us a wind shift tomorrow and what that will do is cool us off dramatically. even tonight if you're heading to friday night football games, take a jacket because once that front clears, the skies will begin to clear out as far as clouds and the winds really pick up. winds increasing out of the north 10 to 20 miles per hour so that kickoff temperature 65 but will be down into the 50's

for the fourth quarter and with that wind, it will feel even cooler. so, the day planner for your saturday mix of clouds and sunshine, seasonably cool. we start off at 45 degrees at 7 o'clock. by 11 o'clock, 52 and temperatures holding in the upper 50's as we head through the afternoon. so future tracker showing that warm front late saturday around 11 o'clock we'll see a few showers breaking out but then as we head into sunday morning, some more showers lingering along the coast at 6 o'clock and even into the afternoon when the eagles are playing could get a little bit of drizzle. not going to be nearly as wet as last sunday and good a amount of cloud cover. the five day at 5:00 tomorrow a mix of clouds and sunshine 55 degrees the high. we fall back to eastern standard time. by sunday morning. then sunday mostly cloudy, a touch of drizzle, 65 degrees. behind that warm front we're back in the 70's on monday, 72 degrees but a strong cold front brings us some afternoon showers for election day 58 degrees. wednesday 53. it gets even cooler by friday. the coolest air mass so far

>> ♪ >> "action news" continues with meteorologist adam joseph, jaime apody, rick williams and monica malpass. >> ♪ >> hello again. here's what's happening on "action news" friday night. he walked away from his post in afghanistan and sparked a search that left several soldiers wounded. today bowe bergdahl learned what punishment he'll receive and it's one that president trump is calling "a complete and total disgrace." tuesday is election day and philadelphia's biggest race is for district attorneyly we'll hear from both candidates on why they should fill the post. dramatic life saving actions by a team of police officers on a new york city subway platform. the moment they saved a baby's life and it was all captured on camera.

>> now the details. sergeant bowe bergdahl faced a judge today. now that judge decided not to send him to prison. instead, giving him a dishonorable discharge from the army. the decision though drew a response from the president who called it disgraceful. abc's maggie rulli joins us live. >> monica, good evening. this case has been at the center of a political firestorm since the very beginning and his sentencing is no exception. an emotional army sergeant bowe bergdahl learns he will not face any time in jail. >> sergeant bergdahl has looked forward to today for a long time. >> reporter: president trump quick to tweet, the decision on sergeant bergdahl is a complete and total disgrace to our country and to our military. the president has long been critical of bergdahl. the 31-year-old faced up to life in prison after admitting to walking off his base in

afghanistan in 2009 getting captured and held by the taliban for five years. two soldiers were seriously wounded while searching for him. >> he's a traitor, a no good traitor who should have been executed, he's gone. >> reporter: bergdahl's lawyer countered his captivity was punishment enough and claimed candidate trump's bashing of bergdahl makes a fair trial impossible. >> president trump's unprincipled efforts to stoke a lynch mob atmosphere while seeking our nation's highest office has cast a dark cloud over the case. >> reporter: and while the judge ruled that the trial was fair and would go forward, he did say that the president's comments would be taken into account as mitigation evidence during his decision. bergdahl is released on a dishonorable discharge and must for fit $1,000 of pay for 10 months. inside the courtroom we're told that bergdahl became very emotional and his lawyer says

they plan on appealing the dishonorable discharge decision. in new york maggie rulli channel6 "action news." rick. >> maggie thank you. a scare at the white house after a man approached secret service agents claiming to have dropped explosives in the area. the incident prompted officials to put the white house on lockdown and close nearby streets to pedestrians. the president just departed the white house for his trip to asia 20 minutes earlier. secret service swept the area but found in explosives. a 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with one count of felony threats. >> president trump's twitter account went down for 11 minutes last night and tonight a former employee of twitter is being blamed. this was the image users received when they tried to see the president's page, a message saying "sorry that page doesn't exist." twitter blamed a customer service employee for deactivating president trump's account. it was that worker's last day on the job which had been preplanned. twitter has been trump's

primary means of communicating with the american people since he took office. >> tuesday is election day and in philadelphia two candidates are vying for the district attorney position left vacant by seth williams who was indicted in march. matt o'donnell sat down with both candidates and brings us this report. >> reporter: larry krasner beat six other candidates to win the democratic nomination for philadelphia district attorney partly due to a $1.4 million campaign contribution from liberal financier george sorrows. krasner has represented black lives matter and occupy philadelphia protesters. he has sued the police department dozens of times and has never served as a prosecutor. krasner wants to bring criminal justice reforms to the d.a.'s office. >> we are putting our money in the wrong places. you want to stop crime you have to start with education, you have to start with job training. >> beth grossman a democrat until four years ago won the republican nomination unopposed. she spent more than 21 years working as a prosecutor in the

very office she now seeks to run. and spent a few years in the city's department of licenses and inspections. grossman is pushing her experience in her quest to become d.a. >> first in my 21 and a half years as prosecutor in the d.a.'s office i have dealt with victims from all walks of life including young children all the way to senior citizens. so the d.a.'s are trained to treat and speak with respect. >> the fraternal order of police has rejected krasner's candidacy with some calling antipolice endorse grossman. while grossman faces a huge uphill battle as the city's registered independents now outnumber its dwindling republican days. >> for a police officer whether you're on duty or off duty if you commit a crime it will be investigated and if there is sufficient evidence he or she will be prosecuted. >> there isn't the police get the benefit of every doubt and no one else does. standard. we have to be evenhanded. >> you'll hear more from grossman and krasner during a special edition of inside

into the apartment of a 63-year-old woman in claymont. police say this is the gun that the teenager used to fire shots into a home in the haver house apartment complex. the woman who lived there was not hit. investigators were able to collect shell casings from the apartment and trace them back to the teens. when officers searched his home they discovered a gun with a fully loaded clip. the teen is facing a host of charges tonight. philadelphia police are searching for the suspect who held up a store in south philadelphia at knife point. the crime and the suspect were captured on surveillance video. happened back on october 10th just before 3:00 p.m. on the 2600 block of south 11th street. the suspect pulled a knife and demand cash. if you recognize him, you're asked to call police. >> meantime time to check conditions on the road friday night. >> for that we go to matt pelman who is live in the "action news" traffic center with the details. some slowness behind you there, matt. >> yeah, some times at this point in the week rick and monica, we don't feel like

running. apparently our trucks and cars don't feel like running either. a broken down truck on the ben franklin bridge. our good buddy ben coming out of camden heading toward the mid span. there you can see it right there and it's causing a pretty big backlog to the toll plaza in camden that's spilling back onto the admiral wilson boulevard and 676. so, i would head for the betsy ross or the walt whitman coming into pennsylvania instead of the ben franklin right now. started the afternoon with a crash right outside channel6 along city avenue southbound. that's gone. if you're headed to the sixers game this evening slow going on 95 northbound at the girard point double decker bridge and coming in on the schuylkill, speeds like 17 miles per hour. here's what that looks like live right by the blue route. eastbound traffic dealing with more than a 20 minute delay on the travel time from this point into the vine. westbound slow as well heading toward king of prussia. sun glare a.m. factor on the westbound side. meanwhile on another chunk of 76 had a crash on the westbound turnpike in malvern. that's gone.

to cry which is usually a good sign. the baby was later rushed to the hospital and thanks to those quick thinking officers and their cpr she's expected to be okay. >> wow. well, some high school juniors and seniors in south jersey were exposed to careers in energy today. members of the south jersey chapter of the american association of blacks in energy visited the atlantic county institute of technology. they spoke to the students in the auditorium then went outside where several representatives from local energy companies were set up to talk to the kids. the companies included atlantic city electric, public service electric and gas, south jersey gas and utility line services. seniors in philadelphia got some important information today about improving their health and lifestyle. the 15th annual bringing city government to philadelphia senior citizens was at the west philadelphia senior center. elderly residents and their caregivers were welcome to come to talk with local agencies that can offer assistance.

sacked 12 times. let me show you a couple of those times. this is an where the eagles must clean something up. the redskins brought pressure right up the middle. they did not want to give carson wentz a nice comfortable cradle to throw from. as we roll this tape, you will see this pocket collapse on carson wentz. one linebacker comes, one linebacker spies, they crush the pocket, ryan kerrigan gets the sac. you want to play quarterback. look at this. they're in your face quickly. the ball has to come out. that's an area carson wentz has to improve the temple with getting the ball out. the san francisco 49ers what they did last week, blitz pressure on carson wentz. one, two, three, four down line men, a linebacker, number five, and another linebacker, six rushers after carson wentz. now he's going to run the play action to legarrette blunt in the backup. what blunt has to do is get quickly to the linebacker

blitz and get a body on a body. he did not. carson wentz gets pushed out of the pocket and i hate this hit. this is what worries me. when the quarterback's shoulder gets driven into the ground his head smashed on the ground this is where injuries happen. when you see the quarterback get hit as much as carson wentz gets hit, i concern myself the injury factor. >> how much more vulnerable is carson because he extends plays with his legs. he gets out of the pocket and that's made him a great quarterback in this league yet he's taken those hits. >> jeff, i agree with you. what we love about carson wentz is the ability to extend the play, make plays outside of structure. he's been phenomenal with that but i always worry about the hits. the cumulative effect of a quarterback getting hit knocks you out of games. >> obviously lane johnson the right tackle said it felt like a loss last week. yeah, that's how badly the offensive line played. i'm going to ask you for your prediction this week against the denver broncos. who do you like in this game. >> tough hard fought game but i like the eagles 21-16. >> there you go. philadelphia eagles we're going to win this game according to jaws.

>> first friday in november. meteorologist adam joseph is here with a check of the forecast and a couple of reminders as far as times. >> yeah, the weekend have to change the clocks back. >> more sleep. >> more sleep. [laughter] >> as we take a look at the action cam, right along the delaware there, you can see the moshulu in the background with part of the center city skyline. filtered sun during the today but definitely a lot cloudier than yesterday but we did hold onto that warmth. as we take a look at the weather sent we have that eagles game on sunday in town again and the temperatures aren't going to be as warm as they were today or won't be as dry as it was today but still not horrible. we're not going to have that soaking rain like we had a week ago on sunday so mostly cloudy for the kickoff at 1:00 p.m., 64 degrees. and during the game, there may be some mist or drizzle at times, so may want to bring a poncho or some light rain gear in case.

temperatures aren't going to be chilly, it's not a cold, cold rain. 64 to 65 degrees which is technically about 5 degrees above normal for this time of year. as we look at the present numbers, we're starting to see that change arrive in those northwestern suburbs. we did hit 73 philadelphia, down to 72 right now. 75 millville. 74 in cape may. but you're starting to see some 60's popping up. lancaster reading, allentown and in fact, now at 50 degrees in mount pocono as a cold front is starting to push through. in fact, the front is not going to bring any rain here this evening. really it's just a wind shift from the southwest, that warm direction today to more of a north northeasterly direction as we get into the weekend. so you're going to notice those winds kick up and we start to feel those winds kick up and that cooler air coming in. you'll know that the front has passed through your neighborhood. so, the sky will gradually clear as that front sinks to the south and turning much cooler, in fact chilly by the morning in those northwestern

suburbs. 46 for the city and there's that north wind up to around 10 to 20 miles an hour. high pressure comes in behind it over new england on saturday, a fall chill at 59 degrees. a dry day. sun giving way to clouds in the afternoon. those clouds building because of a warm front to the north and west. so it's a really good weekend at least for tomorrow to get out if you want to check some of the foliage because we are peaking in the heart of the delaware valley right up to the lehigh valley, it is past peak in the poconos so don't head up there if you want to check out some of the foliage stay local and moderate fall foliage for south jersey as well as delaware, probably another half a week to a week to peep there. its this reminder. saturday night again turn those clocks back an hour before you head to bed. also, check the smoke detector batteries as we end daylight saving time and in fact on saturday night also we'll be watching some of the showers increase around 11 o'clock. about a 10 to a quarter of an

>> ♪ >> friday night. a woman's body is discovered in cobbs creek park. police temporarily shut down an urgent care facility in willow grove. the big story on "action news" tonight the decision to move the statue of former mayor frank rizzo. philadelphia, the city, has been considering responses from citizens after a call for philadelphians to contribute their ideas about this statue and where it should be located. the statue has recently been the target of considerable controversy because some say that rizzo was feared within the minority community. "action news" reporter trish hartman is live on thomas paine plaza across the street from city hall. trish, what's the story? >> reporter: well, jim, the city says the statue will be moved to a location that's still yet to be determined. we found folks on both sides, people who are happy about the news and people who say they plan to fight the decision. >> i don't think they should destroy it.

however i think they should not have a it have it in the center of the city. >> reporter: the statue will be moved from thomas paine plaza after receiving almost 4,000 responses from the public. frank rizzo served as commissioner of the philadelphia police department and was the city's mayor from 1972 to 1980. while he is known for decades of service to the city, many associate him with racism and minority oppression. calls for the statue's removal escalated this summer after a deadly white nationalist rally in charlottesville. the rizzo statue way egged and spray painted. a number of people we spoke with think the statue should stay. >> i think he did a great job for the city in the 70's but i'm from the 70's so i think he did a great job. >> reporter: jodi was rizzo's personal secretary for five years and knew him for decades. >> i knew him. he never said are you black, are they white are they democrat republican asian, hispanic? he helped everybody. >> reporter: she says the committee to keep the statue where it is
