we begin with break news, there has been a mass shooting in texas, a gunman opened fire , inside of a baptist church, this afternoon. >> that is right officials say 27 people are dead, at least 27 more were injured before the gun man was taken down by authorities. the horrific scene unfolded in the small community of sutherland springs 30 miles

from san antonio. >> annie mccormack has been following developments and joins us live from the satellite center. >> reporter: death toll stand at 27, possibly 30 wounded. reports from the scene say that the suspects shooter ace monk the dead, he was killed after a brief pursuit. aerials over first baptist church in sutherland springs, texas now scene of the bloody massacre with the death toll and number of wounded still rising. witness report seeing a man, walk into the church and begin shooting around 11:30 this morning. church's services began at 11:00 a.m. sunday school at 9:45 a.m. texas rangers, fbi and atf all responding securing the area around the church. multiple helicopter were called into transport the wound todd area hospitals. the town is about 40 miles outside of san antonio with the population of only about 1,000. also, outside of the crime scene today.

philadelphia, that is where we will fine "action news" reporter christie ileto with the very latest, christie? >> reporter: well, walter his family identified him as 16 year-old marquis houston who reportedly came out with friendness his neighborhood block, you can see that makeshift memorial, teddy bears and candles sits where he was gun down. his family is now struggling to understand why he is the cities latest teen to die from gun violence. now, police say that the calls for help came out just after midnight this morning on the 2700 block of 19th street, detectives say marquis was shot multiple times at least once to the head, a 12 year-old boy was shot in his side, it is not immediately clear if the victims knew the gun man or the motive. >> i was in my home. i heard eight gunshots. when i saw them i threw through my clothes on and ran outside my husband and neighbor was on the porch and i said i have to check, if he

has a pulse or anything. once i check anything and saw there was no pulse i didn't want to move him right away because i didn't want nothing to be disturbed and i took my jacket and covered him. >> why would somebody do this to him? he doesn't do anything, when i say he is not a bad kid at all he is not a bad kid at all. i cannot understand why this has happened to him. we don't know. we just don't know what the motive would be. we don't know why it happen. >> and now back out here live the 12 year-old we're told was taken to st. christopher's in stable condition, suspect is described as an mid 20's, thin build with wavey hair. anyone with information is asked to contact detectives. live from north philadelphia, christie ileto for channel six "action news". >> christie, thank you. also in north philadelphia a 18 year-old is in serious condition after being shot just blocks away from the temple university campus. police say that the teenager was walking on the 1700 block of north 17th street when he

was shot in the pack right around 12:20 this morning. he was taken to temple hospital. no word on what sparked the shooting and no arrests have been made. victim's identity has not been released but "action news" has learned that he was not a temple university student. a woman suffered smoke inhalation when a fire broke out in a new castle delaware home. fire fighters were dispatch to the unit block of gene avenue just before 11:00, it took them 20 minutes to put out the flames month. man in her 60's was taken to christiana hospital, investigators have not said how the fire started. moving on to sports, eagles freight train rolls on. >> the team dominating the broncos beating them big today >> jeff has the highlights. >> thinks one of the greatest starts in eagles history. now they aring together bye week, flying high this team is soaring. who saw this coming? wow what a start, by your eagles. they are now eight-one for the first time since 2004's super bowl season. how about this history, every other time the eagles started eight-one they ended up

we're continuing to follow breaking news, out of sutherland springs, texas, authorities say a man walked in the first baptist church,

and opened fire, during sunday morning services. he killed 27 people and injured 27 others before leading police on a chase. gunman is dead but according to the spokesperson for the sheriff's office it is unclear if he was killed by police or took his own life. sutherland springs is a small community 30 miles from san antonio. we are awaiting an update from authorities in texas and we will bring that to you live when it does happen. president trump is in japan where he is kicking off a 13 day trip that will take him to five countries across asia. here's abc karen traverse with his lot his first day. >> reporter: president trump kick off his asia tour with a ruckus american welcome. addressing a boisterous crowd of u.s. service members stationed here in japan. nuclear she down with north korea looms large, it will be key issue on the table when president trump meets with leaders of the japan, south korea and china today no specific mention of the north korea from president trump but

thousands ran and walked today to fight lung cancer, the annual 3 degrees 5k filled the area around the memorial hall in fairmount park. our own nydia han and mced the event and walked witt her family. all of the proceed helped lung cancer research foundation advance science and improve the quality of life for lung cancer patients. cars made way for feet this morning on the ben

franklin bridge. more than 4,000 runners took part in this years cooper norcross run the bridge race. 10k run and 2-mile walk benefits the lark school in bellmawr, new jersey to help children with disability learn how to speak, walk and do other daily activities. over the years the race has raised five million-dollar. moving on to health check a teacher in delaware is hailed a hero for jumping into action to save one of her students, choking. health reporter and registered nurse allie gorman has the story. >> reporter: at his desk just last week inside pleasantville elementary school in new castle delaware. fifth grader london garyty was eating a pair during snack time, moments later his teacher laura oakly at another spotted landon at a water fountain choking. >> he turned around and made the sign that he could in the breathe. >> reporter: he shows us how he sprung into action and performed heimlich maneuver, also called abdominal thrust on longon just one squeeze and

outside 63 in philadelphia. sixty-two for allentown, lehigh valley. poconos right now 52. at the coast in cape may 62. down in dover numbers are in the lower 60's. satellite six with action radar showing we have a mostly cloudy sky, is there the batch of moisture from earlier today that is shifting over into new england but looking off to the west we have a cold front moving across great lakes and ohio valley. tornado watch boxes posted across that region as severe weather is likely there tonight. this front will wolf east and as it does so a lot of that energy will really fall apart. we are not anticipating any severe weather but some showers will move in as we get into tomorrow afternoon and perhaps a rumble of thunder. for rest of tonight mostly cloudy, temperatures steady in the 60's in most locations in the upper 50's. sixty-two the overnight low in philadelphia we will drop down to 60 in allentown. sixty-two in cape may. fifty's for millville and into dover. as we get into monday,

the new york city toy day less than one week after the deadliest terror attack to hit the city since 9/11. >> new yorkers are resilient, you know, i think they love to make statements and this is a way to make a statement to come together and show the world that we don't hide. >> reporter: the security has increased in the wake of the boston marathon bombings but authorities say this years record security is unprecedented. >> surveillance teams, k-9 units and thousands of police officers are lining 26.2 miles of this marathon, all the way up until the finish line. with nearly triple the number of law enforcement personnel along the route including heavily armed counter terrorism units, snippers, helicopters and boats. port authority patrolled public transportation, bridges , tunnels and airports. >> we're going through every possibility. >> reporter: after eight were killed when terrorist turned a truck in the weapon on tuesday afternoon officials have brought out extra blocker vehicles and concrete barricade at vulnerable
