law enforcement says a good samaritan shot kelley when kelley emerged from the church to make his get away in his car but kelley drove into a ditch and died either from that shooting or that he ended it with a self inflicted wound. sharrie williams is live in sutherland springs tonight. walter perez is standing by at a church in bucks county. sharrie let's go to you first. what's the situation as you find it in that tiny rural and devastated community? >> reporter: well, jim in the community this size, where there's only a few hundred people who live here, it didn't take us long to get a lay of the land. the church where those deadly shootings happened is only feet away on this side of me. on the other side of me is the main thorofare a highway 87 that runs through this community. as for the people here and speaking with them today, the residents this is already a quiet place, a place that was already deeply rural. the people i find today talking to them even more reserved, even more solemn

after their lives were changed just over 30 hours ago. and for the first time today, we are hearing from the pastor and his wife who lead this small but impactful church. sharrie pomeroy tells us that she was in florida when she got heard her church was that under attack. >> our church was not comprised of members or parishioners, we are a very close family. >> reporter: sharrie pomeroy is very much center of the first baptist church family. she's the wife of the pastor and cares for all who enter the church doors. >> we ate together. we laughed together. we cried together. and we worshiped together. >> reporter: with 26 innocent people murdered in the massacre, much of their church is gone. among the lives stripped away is 14-year-old annabelle. she's the daughter of sharrie and pastor frank pomeroy. >> we don't want to overshadow the other lives lost yesterday. we lost more than belle yesterday. and one thing that gives me a

sliver of encouragement is the fact that belle was surrounded yesterday by her church family that she loved fiercely. >> lean on the lord rather than your own understanding. i don't understand. but i know my god does. >> reporter: and even in their darkest hour they are still relying on their faith. i spoke to a volunteer firefighter who works in this community. he mentioned to me of helping on that fateful morning that the shooting happened and was there to help the families. i spoke to another resident who simply just had nothing to say, holding back emotions. we've been on the ground a few hours still talking with people here, hearing more of the stories of how it all unfolded and i also had a chance to speak with a member of sheriff's department. they tell us there will be another update coming this evening, jim. we'll be here on the ground talking with the residents here to hear more of how they

are fairing after this horrific tragedy. we're live in sutherland springs, texas, sharrie williams, channel6 "action news." >> sharrie, thank you so much. let's switch live to "action news" reporter walter perez at the calvary chapel of central bucks county in chalfont. walter, there is no doubt the pastors and rabbis and imams are taking yet another look at how to secure their houses of worship from violent attack. >> reporter: jim, it's sad to say but, yes, security has become a major issue at houses of worship across the country and officials here at calvary chapel say they are ahead of the curve. the massacre at sutherland springs, texas, once again raises a disturbing and uniquely modern concern in america, security at churches, synagogues and mosques. there have been an estimated 92 violent acts at houses of worship across the u.s. this year alone. and calvary chapel of central bucks in chalfont is among the

growing numbers of churches taking this issue very seriously. >> i have somebody watching the month and tours at all time. i have positions out in the parking lot, positions here in the sanctuary and i have that people walking constantly. >> reporter: he's a former police officer and current chief of security at the church. he says his detail includes armed personnel. >> we have a select few of high caliber guys that are trained by the state of pennsylvania act 235 in the use of weapons. >> reporter: senior pastor john hessler says as a minister, he struggled with the idea of establishing a security team for his church. but that all changed five years ago. >> sandy hook 2012. that's when i sat down with dave outland and some of the other men and said, look, we need to upgrade whatever we're doing in terms of observation to some sort of security. >> reporter: pastor hessler says he accepts the fact that there is no realistic way of

delaware county. philip barr has resigned from the board of commissioners. officials in radnor are holding a news conference shortly to announce they have received ahr's resignation. ahr was arrested on child pornography charges last month. he's free on bail. police in west chester have a driver in custody tonight. they say he struck two west chester university students this morning. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live at the chester county d.a.'s office in west chester. vern, what do you have on this? >> reporter: good evening, jim. police do have their suspect well in hand tonight. she remains hospitalized as the d.a. decides just what to charges should be. it is apparently all the result of a mental health issue. university police and the chester county d.a. are investigating the hit-and-run event that left 11 chester university student hospitalized tonight. she's now listed in stable condition. the other victim was treated and released.

it happened around 9:00 this morning on new road as the two south campus students waited for a bus to drive them to the main campus less than 2 miles away. they were standing at this bus stop. the driver fled the scene. >> we are concerned about the safety and wellness of all of our students. as you know, the students were struck and we had an emt on scene as quickly as possible, transported the students to the hospital. >> reporter: the suspect police say was locked up on high street on the main campus moments later after they reportedly hit another university student. the suspect was taken to the hospital where she remains tonight after toxicology testing. it is now believed she was mentally impaired and off of her medicine. students who catch the bus here daily tell me that while today's accident is a random incident, the road is nevertheless dangerous. >> a lot of people don't stop there. >> reporter: cars. >> yeah, to let us cars, it's the benches. >> on north campus it's

tonight in south jersey. pedestrian has beene30 i struck by a ve killed. this happened right in the vicinity of the piston diner. there's nothing to indicate this is a hit-and-run but as you can see there are many emergency vehicles on the scene. one dead in the area of the piston diner on route 130 in deptford. they have been called unscrupulous renters illegal trespassers and criminals. today philadelphia city council took on a problem of squatters, different ways to crack downon people who illegally occupy homes they don't own. southeastern new jersey, this is the area that could get a pretty steady soaking about three-quarters of an inch of rain to an inch of rain. behind this system temperatures are really stepping down as we head through the week. so the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, again we have a couple hours of sunshine early. then the clouds roll in. it will be chilly. 20 degrees colder than today. so, you'll want to wear a jacket tomorrow. the high 50 degrees. that rain moving in in the afternoon and evening hours and again, most of the activity south of philadelphia. on wednesday still on the cool side. we'll see clouds breaking for some sunshine, a high of 53. thursday temperatures jump a little bit. 56 degrees ahead of our next cold front. it's partly sunny. that front will move through thursday night overnight and behind it we have a taste of winter. friday when the rothman ice rink opens up dress with your winter coat. look at that. the high 44 degrees. overnight low 27 degrees. that means that we had a hard
