morning in a tiny texas town, his reactions prompting reactions of horror around the world. the big story is the newest information on the latest mass shooting. the community of southern springs continues to reel in the wake of the carnage. law enforcement has witnessed the scene and explained it this way. >> i can tell you the scene is hohorrific. there is no word to describe it. >> hundreds of shell casings, 30 round capacity magazines have been recovered. >> kelly had a history of abuse with his former wife and his mother-in-law is a member of the church. kelly was court martialed in 2012 because of the domestic

violence against his wife and 11 month old child and only because a clerical mistake failed to report that to the fbi was he able to purchase the guns he bought yesterday. >> sharrie williams is in sutherland springs. are we right that because the community is so small everybody knows some of the victims? >> that would be the case, jim. it's a sense of neighbors knowing their neighbors. so much so that the residents that live here are related or their family has been living here generations. this is a community made up of about 400 people so when 26 are murdered and 20 others are wounded, it's not a nameless, facesfaceless act. they know each other and it's painful. >> it's a community forever tie

today the lives taken inside this small church. >> knowing that it can happen at the blink of an eye makes me think how fast life can go by. >> joshua lost a friend in the gunfire unleashed in that sank wrairy. sanctuary. >> he's been riding around talking to others about the way he feels. >> johnny menendez shares that feeling. >> it's shocking. i have friends that didn't make it. i have a nephew that is being operated on as we speak. >> 16-year-old cameron jones shows up near the church bearing flow ter and balloons. her best friend was at church with her mother. >> walking down the school and your best friend isn't with you

and everyone is crying along with you. cameron's best friend is expected to live, but her mother, karen mcnolte didn't make it. >> i would be like her and not believe it. my mom is my best friend and her mom is hers. i couldn't imagine. >> we heard the residents say they have each other's back and will move forward together. for a sond night in a row, this small church is roped off and heavily guarded by authorities. sharrie williams, channel6, "action news." >> sharrie, thank you so much. we are hearing from the good samaritan that grabbed his own gun when he heard shots fired and got into a gun battle with the instructor. >> i was scared to death.

i was. i was scared for me. i was scared for every one of them. i was scared for my own family that lives less than a block away. police say willford wounded kelly hitting him twice and he took off in a pick up at speeds up to 100 miles per hour before taking his own life. he says he's not a hero and regrets not getting to the shooter faster. >> the former president of the rad nor township commissioners handed in his resignation to the board tonight. at the same time, we learned that his pornography is not limit today his home devices. in his badge and work ipad. he had more images on the pad that he tried to delete before turning it in. >> it was shocking to take a township issued ipad and find what we found on there today. >> the ipad has been turned over to county investigators that had no idea phillip arg had the device i after a raid in his ho. it's not clear if he continued looking at the images after his arrest, but he turned them in with his device. the 60-year-old apologized for
