hospital where the suspect was injured and drove himself. >> reporter: as you mentioned the whole thing started at a traffic stop at route 33 in plainfield township. a bit before 11:00 this morning. two state troopers were on the scene and after sobriety tests the troopers thought they had enough evidence to arrest the suspect on dui charges and police officials said at that point a violent struggle ensued. >> the trooper felt he had enough probable cause to arrest this subject for driving under the influence. he goes to place the subject under arrest and at this point he begins to violently resist arrest and the troopers were in a knock out drag down fight on the side of the road with vehicles speeding by them and it got very, very violent and i saw the confrontation on video tonight was a violent fight.

at some point the subject frees himself from the the troopers while they are wrestling down on the ground and goes to his vehicle and retrieves a gun and taking the weapon out and fires several shots at both of our troopers. one trooper was struck several times. our troopers were able to return fire on the subject striking him several times as well. even after being shot the subject was able to get back in the vehicle and drove himself away from the scene. >> as you heard there the suspect was hit repeatedly and still drove himself here to easton hospital after being treated for his wound withes at lehigh valley hospital in allentown. and one trooper was hit three times and air lifted to saint lukes hospital where he remains in the intensive square unity in critical condition that the hour. and the suspect is injured as well and to word on the extent of the injuries or the troopers

involved nor the names have been released. >> we continue with "action news" reporter, bob brooks, live in easton where the corporal is being treated as we speak. >> reporter: according to state police at a news conference the trooper is in icu condition is extremely critical but turned into a stable condition. this is good news. if we bring up video from the scene we know that the trooper was air-lifted here to saint lukes hospital in bethlehem. we know that each moment was critical and the cpr on the trooper was ministered and the trooper was shot multiple times, they think now three times but where he was wounded is unknown. just minutes ago the state police captain richard deam

to his own military chain of command. in the tiny town the focus is on the victims and their families. "action news's" sharrie williams is live at the scene in southerland springs. sharrie you are seeing a lot of help pouring into the small town? >> reporter: yes brian, we are learning in this grieving presense he is for some that means how can i help? what can i do? the church where this mass shooting happened is in southerland springs. in wilson county. they say that financial donations are coming in and we spoke to people in the houn coming here to bring food and cook for the families that need it and offering up hugs and their prayers. a hush sits over southerland springs, texas. hugs and prayers can be seen on every corner. and more details come to light how a gunman walked the church

we are following breaking news out of florida tonight of a plane crash possibly involving former phillies pitcher, roy halladay, a plane that went down in the gulf of mexico. is the same type that halladay recently purchased and talked about on social media. however the sheriff has not confirmed that halladay was on board. all they will say so far is there are no confirmed survivors. there say news conference going

on now we want to listen in to the sheriff. >> we are assisting with the investigation with ntsb. i can tell you sadly it has turned into a recovery, we recovered one body. a two passenger plane. i can confirm there was only one body involved and it's sad to say it's a friend of ours, it's roy halladay. many know roy as a cy young winner, future hall-of-famer. one of the best pitchers that ever pitched in the game of baseball. we know that roy is a person. a caring husband who loved his wife randy and loved his two boys tremendously and coached their baseball team. i can tell you e know you ray family of faith and our hearts

and prayers go out to you. because we know how much he means to you and i can tell you from the bottom of our hearts we know how much you all meant to him. roy, as i said meant a lot to the sheriff's office. i am not speaking on behalf of the family, i don't have the honor to do that. i definitely don't. they will have someone much better speak on their behalf but i can speak as someone that knew him, he was a part of our sheriff's office. his kids when to school with some of our kids and was there wherever we needed him. he was one of the most humble human beings you would ever meet. someone that won two cy youngs and one of the greatest pitchers in baseball he would walk in the room as if he was just anybody. it didn't matter who he met he was kind and generous and his family purchased a dog for us. k-9 doc. he is out there working and saving lives and making our

community safer. he was out there with us. we -- i saw him on friday we had a charity fishing event and sadly we were out in these waters here fishing for charity. and roy was out there with us. i can tell you that being a pilot and flying planes that was his passion, he would talk about it and refurbishing planes and family involved in flying and his dad. so roy, i can tell you he was one in a million. it is a true loss for us. i have no doubt he is looking down with god up in heaven. because his heart was a heart of gold. he was an unbelievable human being. i am blessed and our sheriff's office is blessed to have known him. we have calls from our members to get down here as quick as possible. he was a personal friend of our sheriff's office. and so right now we are going be

working with his family to provide any assistance we can. questions and updates will come from them. it's a sad day for us here. and sad day for tampa bay. and a sad day for anyone that loves major league baseball. and even sadder for the family. i ask that you respect his family. please do not go to his home. give them time to grieve and on behalf of the family please pray for them many his have afternoon discussing security plans for the week ahead and the

plane had gone down the tail number goes back to roy's plane. and that moment your heart sinks and you start praying and started to come become this way because we were praying for the best. it could be a search and rescue -- and we would be just taking him to the hospital and something happened. but the worst case scenario happened. it breaks our hearts. >> [ inaudible ]. >> we have some information. i don't want to put anything out there because i can't confirm it. that goes back to ntsb with the plane and flight patterns. i can tell you we speculated where it came from. the information people are telling us he came out of. if i give you that information it could be wrong. i don't want to provide false information. >> do you any reports of engine trouble or hear or see anything before the crash? >> there are witnesses that saw

something, but all of that information goes to ntsb. the sheriff's office is not involved if the crash investigation, i don't want to put anything out there that they would not want us to release. >> [ inaudible ]. >> i don't have any information on the 911 call. all i know is that we got a call that a plane crashed by the power plant. >> when it comes to the scene, can you describe what first responders saw when they arrived there? >> the maritime unit went out there. and they were out there and the plane was there and could see the tail number, there is debris and debris due to the tide has shifted a bit and that is why we are working with ntsb to get information. and our dive team went in as somebody as you can.

this is shallow water, this is the flight pattern where people are getting lower, i can imagine that deputies that first arrived out there. they were hoping that the plane was low enough that someone could have ditched it and got out. >> [ inaudible ]. >> the plane it's pretty much in -- condition however there is debris and pieces of the plane that floated away, and due to tide and shifts, we are working now to retrieve some of that for ntsb. >> that is pasco county sheriff's office talking about what he described as a brutally sad day in tampa florida, and sad day here in philadelphia. that roy halladay has died in a plane crash.

40 a pitcher bee loved in philadelphia as well as in toronto where he played. an ace pitcher and took delivery of this plane on october 17th, an icon a 5, he tweeted frequently about it in the days and weeks that followed. a plane he loved and passion he loved and dreamed of owning this plane. and now he has died as a result of fly that plane over the waters off the coast of tampa, florida. and the ntsb is investigating. we have learned that roy halladay a beloved pitcher here and beyond is dead today. >> our heart break goes time-out his family. our sympathies to them and the entire phillies organization. a sad horrible occurrence. >> lets talk about the accuweather forecast and what adam has for us. rain today and snow up in the poconos. as we head to the weather center

the gloomy sky and the sun is going to set in the next half hour. and also with the low clouds and the rain falling making it for a slow evening especially for our commuters. in fact, we look at the radar in the region, stormtracker 6 live double scan no matter where you live we are dealing with those rain drops, some of it heavy at times south of philadelphia. a washout no matter where you are. all of those major highways along the blue route 95, the new jersey turnpike. 422 north and west. it looks like the rain is heavier towards pottstown and up towards the lehigh valley and reading and what you are seeing here is bright banding on the radar, ice in the clouds blinding the radar beams and looking as if it is raining harder and light rain for the most part and bump up to the north lake harmony and mt. pocono and it is in the form of

snow. we have seen pictures sent into our social media pages and valerie sent me this picture from this afternoon in lake harmony where they want the snow early in the season and as you can see it's a wet snow weighing on some of the trees not so much accumulating on the roadways but giving a picture winter is knocking on our doorstep. to the north 32 that is it in the poconos. and allentown and lancaster raining in the 30s. the cold rain. 45 in philadelphia and millville and dover as well as cape may. chilly no matter where you are. a little low pressure area riding through bringing snow for interstate 80 and central parts of pennsylvania. drifting off the coast into the evening hours. 8:00 tonight raining across the area, snow confined to the high terrain up into the poconos and moves off the coast around the midnight hour, remaining cloudy overnight tonight and still a

lot of clouds wednesday morning and tomorrow morning's rush hour will start dry and in the afternoon tomorrow breaks of sun developing and temperatures staying well below average and topping off into the low 50s for highs in the afternoon and starting near 40 at 7:00 in the morning. the four day at 4:00 forecast, tomorrow a chilly day brighter with pops of sun and thursday brighter and not as cool and the pick of the week and strong arctic front blasts through early friday morning, a high of just 39 despite the sunshine and wind will whip and windchills own in the 20s for the most part here even in the afternoon and then continued cold on veterans day on saturday with the temperature of 41 degrees. whether you have a parade friday or saturday, you'll need to bundle up as if it was december around here. we'll talk about the warm up into next week in the next half hour guys. >> thank you. we have more to come on this

it's 4:30 and breaking news from northampton county. a pennsylvania state trooper is in critical condition after being shot several times. sara bloomquist is outside of saint lukes hospital where he is being treated right now. >> reporter: late this afternoon we got a briefing and we have more information about what exactly unfolded on route 33 near route 291 in plainfield township, northampton county. earlier this morning we foe that the trooper, a corporal is out of surgery but remains in extremely critical condition as he recovers, the suspect is in

surgery right now. >> this is the aftermath in plainfield after the violent confrontation between two troopers and a suspect. the troopers pulled over a man driving a blue pontiac at 10:15 a.m. for speeding and was told he was free to go. and he flagged down the troopers again and asked about paying the citation and the troopers thought he may be under the influence and tested him for dui. >> he began to violently resist arrest. they were in a knock down dragout fight along the side of the road. >> the man freed himself and allegedly grabbed a gun and fired several times at the trooper. >> one trooper was struck several times and the trooper was able to return fire striking him multiple times as well. even after being shot the

breaking news from florida. where former phillies star roy halladay has died in a plane crash. in the last 30 minutes police confirm that halladay was the only person on board his fall aircraft when it went down today in the gulf of mexico. halladay only recently bought the plane and talked about it a lot on social media. police are not releasing a lot of details but the ntsb is on route to the scene to begin the more formal investigation. >> the philadelphia phillies released this statement. it reads, we are numb over the tragic news of roy halladay's untimely death and there are no words to express the sadness over the loss of one the most respected human beings to ever play the game. we give our condolences to brandy ryan and braden. and the conk continues online at 6abc.com. and we'll post the latest on that as we learn more about this

most tragic incident today. >> fire investigators say that a man has died after the fire in wilmington two other victims were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. the flames broke out at 9:00 a.m. on norway avenue and firefighters pulled two people from the burning home and a third had already escaped. and hoarding conditions inside of the homemade it more difficult. >> difficult moments made searching a lot harder and made stretching the hand line a lot harder and makes our job so much more difficult. >> "action news" learned the two surviving victims have been transferred to the burn center. and delaware state police are trying to confirm if wet roads contributed to a deadly accident this afternoon at todd lane shortly before 2:30 today. officials have not released a lot of details but the crash

involved two vehicles and one person was killed. police in south philadelphia are asking the public to help them find three men accused of attacking three people last month. video from the 1100 block of ninth street shows the trio approaching the victims on october 15th. the attackers immediately started to throw punches as you can see. he returned with the other two to launch the attack. if you have information about the assault please contact south detectives. now to an "action news" exclusive, a dangerier job tracking down alleged criminals that went to great lengths to avoid capture much the task force is har at work in philadelphia every day getting the most wanted men and women off the streets. and annie mccormick takes us along for a day in the life. >> only "action news" was there

with the u.s. marshals task force as they hit the streets of philadelphia way handful of warrants. >> this morning we had five different warrants for fugitives with significant criminal history. >> they started at dawn and worked through the morning with a convoy through the city. when they arrived at the address of a potential lead the approach is swift. this group moves in and makes the address another group is waiting for the next target. on this block they are looking for a home invasion suspect. and they hope to get information to lead to his where abouts. >> they found three of the five fugitives on their list taking them into custody and a fourth later turns himself in. it comes from warrants and police and probation and parole and some from out of state.
