career in 2013 with 213 wins. and the phillies issued a statement saying quote, we are numb over the tragic news and no words to describe the sadness that the entire phillies family is feeling. he will be on the hall-of-fame in 2019 and aside from his stuff on the field and in the clubhouse loved by everybody a gracious, gracious soul. >> the investigation continues into why his plane crashed. and the violent struggle between to pennsylvania state troopers and a suspect and a gun battle. they pulled the driver over for speeding and issued a ticket and he was told he could go and the driver refused to leave. we are live now where the suspect drove himself to the hospital.

walter how did it unfold initially. >> reporter: rick, one of those troopers a corporal choose name was not released. after a terrifying exchange that unfileded on the side of the highway in broad daylight in rural northampton county. a traffic stop turned into a violent confrontation ending in gun fire and at 10:30 this morning when the corporal made the stop and after sobriety tests the troopers decided they had enough evidence to arrest the suspect on dui charges but the suspect made it clear he was not going to cooperate. >> placed the subject under arrest and at this point he begins to violently resist arrest. and the troopers were in a knock down dragout fight on the side of the road with vehicles speeding by them and got violent and i saw the confrontation on

video and it was a violence sight. and the suspect was able to free himself and goes back to his vehicle and retrieves a gun and takes the weapon out and fires several shots at both of our troopers. >> despite his injuries the suspect drove himself here to easton hospital. here you see the suspect's blue pontiac being towed away. meanwhile one trooper was shot three times and was treated at the scene and transported to saint lukes hospital. >> they said if not for the care that the injured officer received he likely would not have survived. >> we should mention that the other trooper was not hit by gun fire in this case. meanwhile the suspect was transferred to lehigh hospital. neither his name or condition is

so the support, the resourced that are coming from the outside make a tremendous difference. >> southerland springs, texas, is deeply rural made up of families that are here for generations and many are farmers and rankers and 26 where killed in the violent gun fire inside of the church and those families are burdened with planning funerals. >> a hard healing process right now. a lot of uncertainty about what the future holds for a lot of them. thankfully support is pouring in from all over. >> whatever it is i want to do it. i want to help. >> people like tray are saddened by the massive loss of life and want to do something. he owned a custom casket company in south texas and a friend called with an idea. >> i will donate caskets to the families. he has met with families that lost loved ones and is prepared

we are live in southerland springs, texas, sharrie williams, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. and world news tonight with david muir has more on the investigation into the texas state shootings. all right on the weather front the a damp and dreary day and the rain is continuing through the night. cecily tynan has the latest with the accuweather forecast. >> right now only 44 degrees in philadelphia. normal high for this time of year is 59 but compared to yesterday. we hit 70 yesterday and we are 24 degrees colder and not only is it cold out there. it's also wet. double scan live radar showing a steady rain across our viewing area and did get snow in the poconos. you'll notice near allentown it's red and bright banding and pellets high in the atmosphere. and raining there all of that ice is melting once it gets

closer to the surface. the rain is ending at midnight and generally a healthy amount. heavy et south of philadelphia. and the poconos a slushy coating on the roads and temperatures overnight remaining nearly steady and we are not talking about icing overnight. temperatures fall over the weekend and friday we are talking about windchills in the 20s. i'll talk more about that in the seven-day forecast. be prepared to put on the lay s layers. >> time for a look at the traffic report on a tuesday. >> how are we looking tonight. dark and cold and rainy. not such a nice night for the ride home. and the vehicles don't want to run and two broken trucks on the schuylkill eastbound side of gulph mills and eastbound extra back you had up from 202 and the rain pouring down around gulph

mills and we say use the turnpike eastbound instead of the schuylkill but not this evening, there abroken down truck there as well 2 miles east of valley forge. you need to allow extra time in the king of prussia area. and bucks county bad crash along easton road by the exxon station, we see slowing there especially northbound north of doylestown and we are seeing slowing coming out of wilmington on the southbound side of 95 but at least our crash approaching 273 is now gone and stick with it because the detouring routes like 13 and kirkwood highway are jammed. over in sicklerville a crash by the texas road house by burlington cross keys road but the crash near pleasantville has cleared out. and everything is open as you head into a.c. we'll check it again in the next half hour. >> thank you matt. more ahead on "action news" tonight. stay with us.

philadelphia firefighters made quick work of a blaze in north philadelphia overnight. they were called to the home of the 1500 block of west glen avenue and the damage was not severe or reports of injuries.

holiday spirit? >> john is saying no. he posted this on my facebook page from emerald lakes and moss pond they have a slushy coating on the roads and snowing up there. here though just a cold rain and double scan live radar showing that rain is lasting for the next few hours. you can see no holes in the rain, we have a steady rain across the region and as we zoom into over the i-95 corridor the pockets of the heavy rain in the orange and yellow north and glassboro and one heading over norristown and gradually moving to the east-northeast and trenton also a heavier pocket of rain, as we zoom up farther to the north this is where we have the bright banning and pellets of ice in the higher elevations and we get the brighter colors and steadier rain all the way north of allentown and it will eventually move out of here by about midnight or so.

and the cold air will stick around and get colder for the end of the week currently in philadelphia 43 degrees and yesterday we hit 70 and cape may 45 and allentown and reading 45 degrees. you see the temperature at freezing in the poconos that is why they are getting the snow. satellite 6 along with action radar showing the wave of low pressure pushing to the east and still moisture out to the west it takes the evening hours before we get rid of this. a pretty steady rain across coastal new jersey, by about midnight it all begins to diminish. a few lingering showers the clouds are breaking for sunshine as we head through the day tomorrow. 8:00 in the morning it's dry and chilly and it will be brighter than today. a better day than today. temperatures though remain on the cool side breaks of sunshine and 7:0040 degrees and 3:00, 52. and normal high is 59 and

temperatures remain normal really for the next week. the five-day at 5:00 showing tomorrow clouds mixing with sunshine and 53 degrees a cool day but not as cool and not as wet as today. a dry day tomorrow. thursday temperatures move up a notch up to 57 degrees but that cold front moves through likely dry thursday night and then behind it not only do temperatures tumble but the winds pick up so friday the high 39 degrees feeling like the dead of winter. windchills though when you factor in the winds, gusting to 35 miles per hour. it will be in the 20s. so bundle up on friday and saturday for veterans day, cool but not as windy. 41 degrees and sunday it clouds up 52 degrees. tracking more rain and adam will talk about that is the seven-day forecast. windchills in the 20s on friday. >> i'm not ready.

"action news" continues with meteorologist, adam joseph, rick williams and monica malpass. >> we continue to follow breaking news out of florida today. former philadelphia pitcher, roy halladay has died in a plane crash in the gulf of mexico. according to the pasco county sheriff's office. he was the only person on the single inagain plane when it crashed in shallow water and that it was not a may day call before the crash. and it's not clear what went wrong and the ntsb is investigating and the sheriff's office is heart broken by the news. >> they said the plane had gone down and the tail number goes back to roy's plane and that

corporal remains in critical condition here at saint lukes after suffering three gunshot wounds and spent the afternoon in surgery and the suspect also in surgery getting treatment for his gunshot wounds. and this started as a routine traffic stop for speeding and ended in gun fire. chopper 6 hd as over route 33 and 291 shortly after a state police trooper was shot three times. the trooper and his partner pulled over a man driving a blue pontiac and cited him for speed and he was free to go and then the man flagged down the troopers and asked about paying the citation and the troopers determined he seemed to be under the influence and they arrested him for dui. >> and he begins to violently resist the arrest and the troopers with in a knock down

drag out fight on the side of the road. >> he freed himself and got to his car and got a gun and the trooper was hit. >> one of our troopers was hit several timesp the troopers were able to return fire striking him multiple times as well. after being shot the suspect was able to get back into his vehicle. >> he drove himself to easton hospital where chopper 6 hd spotted had he car near the money room and the back window shot out. he was taken into custody and the wounded corporal was taken to saint lukes and remained in surgery through the afternoon. >> our guy is up there now fighting for his life. he is a warrior. >> that trooper a corporal shot three times and remains in extremely critical condition and the suspect is undergoing surgery at lehigh valley cedar
