detectives will be doing interviews into the night as they try to put together a better timeline and get a better idea of the circumstances that led up to the 2-year-old boy suffering a gunshot wound to the head. police say that it appears to be self-inflicted but they have more work to do. adding to the mystery they have not yet found the gun. >> distraught friends and family members rushed to the scene as word spread that a 2-year-old boy that lived in the home in west godfrey in olney died of a gunshot wound to the head. >> oh my god. oh god bless his soul. >> police say that the child was shot in the basement of the row home this afternoon and the boy was in the home with his mother and other family members. someone called 911 and another

call was made to the boy's father who came to the scene and picked the child up and drove him to einstein medical center. >> it appears to be, appears to be a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head and a case of an unsecured firearm in the house found by kids and then tragedy. >> 15 minutes later the boy was pronounced dead and the father's car was at einstein cordoned off by crime scene tape. the distraught mother was eventually taken to the hospital. >> still a lot of work to be done and interviews to be conducted to find out exactly what happened here. >> neighbors say they saw the boy and his parents and some said they didn't think the family lived here long and stunned by the violence and age of the victim. >> my son used to run and up downp block and play and try to take his toys and stuff and the

boy was a good kid and the parents were friendly as well. it's sad to hear this. >> a lot of questions surrounding this case still tonight homicide investigators are on the case. >> live in the olney section, i'm sara bloomquist, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a man is dead after being shot in the back of the head. the shooting happened at 9:30 this morning on the 4500 block of marion avenue in west philadelphia. the 31-year-old victim was taken to pen presbyterian where he later died and police have not made an arrest or recovered a weapon. philadelphians dressed for much cooler weather today but the fact is these were seasonable temperatures, the big chill is coming in overnight and tomorrow and will actually have windchills in the teens. forget about fall, it is going feel like winter, lets get the latest from cecily tynan and accuweather. 59 degrees the normal high for this time of year.

this is the air mass moving our way. the windchill in bismark north dakota. it's 8 and international falls, 5 degrees below zero and feeling more than 30 degrees colder tomorrow than today. satellite 6 along with action radar showing the leading edge of the air mass draped across the air mass. this will move through the overnight hours. and once that does it opens the door for the cold air to pour in and kicks up the winds. this is what to expect. this evening, it's not that cold but the arctic front arriving from the northwest to the southeast. between 1:00 in the morning and 5:00 in the morning. the here before dawn, that is when the winds kicking up 35 to 40 miles per hour. temperatures in the 30s at dawn. and that is where they are staying through the day tomorrow. we are looking at windchilled not just for the morning commute but through the day in the teens and 20s. you really have to bundle up. 8:00 tomorrow morning the

happened august 1st at norristown farm park. and investigators say that a 19-year-old was running before 11:00 a.m. and a man approached her and the man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt despite temperatures being nearly 90 degrees and district attorney kevin steele reveal that the attacker pulled out a gun with his right hand and sexually assaulted the girl and steele pinpointed the exact location of the crime. >> this happened on stoney creek road between upper and lower farm roads in the park. and that is a portion of the park where you know we see people exercising a lot. and anybody that came through that area. may have seen something or heard something. >> the citizens crime commission is offering a $10,000 reward for an arrest in this case. anyone with information is urged to call police.

renovations now underway at the finley recreation center in east mt. airy, officials broke ground on a $1.6 million project and crews will install a new playground and spray ground and tennis and basketball courts and new lighting and security cameras. and this display of nearly 7,000 small flags is on is the university of delaware campus. it is part of a school long, week long celebration of america's veterans each of the 6,940 flags represent a soldier sailor air man or marine killed in the line of duty since 9/11. and the city of philadelphia celebrated a big achievement for the third consecutive year the school district saw an increase in graduation rates and up 4% over 2016. superintendant william hite

a well deserved display of tradition for a retiring police officer. major dusty rhodes of the police department is retiring after 28 years and honored with what is known as a walkout ceremony today attended by fellow officers and of course members of his family. the veterans day this saturday, montgomery county is proud of the new shuttle service to transport veterans to the medical appointments and officials want to spread the word and so do we. here is the story. >> reporter: today veterans christopher whitman and clarence littlejohn did what they do several time as i month take the montgomery veteran shuttle to the va medical center for their appointments. we hopped on for the 45 minute
