saturday, for veteran's day, a cold morning. winds are light, 41-degrees. sunday, a cool day, but temperatures begin to cloud. 49-degrees. monday, a morning shower. wednesday, a few evening shower, 54. thursday, seasonal and a high of 58-degrees. that's the next seven days. here's what you expect this winter. over the past decades, we experienced wild seasons with five feet of snow to crippling ice storms. we have two of the warmest winters on record with 60s and 70s in the heart of winter. last year it was tough to build

a snowman. the fifth warmest winter five degrees above normal. february was the warmest on record with 15 inches of snow. everyone wants to know what will this year bring. you have to look at signals across the globe but the main driver is el nino. surface waterses in the tropical pacific are cooler than normal. that's expected to create pa weak el nino. there is a fair variability in snow fall totals, but a tendency to keep snow fall near or below average. we don't get a lot of snow during the weak el nina because of a jet stream pattern pushing air across the country and the core of the cold air is bottled

northern canada and southern plains. at the same time, there can be above normal precipitation but much is rain or rain mix. if we can get it to arrive with a cold shot, it results in phasing and that can produce a major winter storm. this happened two years ago, 22-inches of snow during late january 2016, during what otherwise was a virtually snowless winter. key points, slightly above normal and cooler than last winter with the lowest temperatures likely in january. an active season with clippers but without sustained cold air, many are rain events. i'm calling for normal to slightly below normal
