"action news" reporter john rawlins spoke to folks around town today about how they're dealing with this cold, but first let's head to the big board and meteorologist cecily tynan with more on the timing of this cold weather. >> hi rick. looking at least record lows likely to be broken tonight. today part of the reason why it was just so uncomfortable is the wind gusts. we have arctic high pressure building in so we have that that wind tunnel effect, philadelphia reporting a peak wind gust of 30 miles an hour, reading 35, trenton 39, millville 41 and atlantic city

the winds were howling, a peak wind gust of 43 miles per hour so you combine the winds with the current temperature, the wind chill in philadelphia 26 degrees, wind chills have been in the 20's all day long and the winds will be diminishing tonight but temperatures will be dropping very quickly. satellite and radar showing we don't have any cloud cover to trap in the heat of the earth, some very good radiational cooling tonight and temperatures dropping near record low levels and a freeze warning has been posted for essentially everywhere where we haven't had a freeze yet. this is the end of the growing season. actually in philadelphia we even haven't had a frost yet but tonight a freeze, temperatures dropping very close to the record low. philadelphia the record low 21 set back in 1961. probably within 2 degrees of that but allentown likely a new record low of 16. trenton a new record of 20, shattering the record low of 25. wilmington a new record of 21, atlantic city all the way down to a record low of 19 am i. tracking a rebound of

it felt a lot colder because of the wind chill and now the expected deep dive in the mercury overnight which has prompted the city to call its first code blue of the season. live in center city, john rawlins channel6 "action news." >> john thank you. as temperatures plunge this weekend check in at 6abc.com for the latest forecast information, also an updated listing of code blue alerts posted for your area. in other news tonight four philadelphia police officers are recovering following a crash in kensington early today. authorities say it happened when two sets of officers were both pursuing a red honda civic because the driver was wanted in connection with a shooting. then at c and allegheny, the police cruisers collided and one smashed into the side of a home. all four officers were rushed to temple hospital for treatment. all are expected to survive. >> a woman was stabbed and set on fire in west philadelphia this morning. somebody from her own family

is now facing criminal charges from it. it happened in a home in the 1300 block of north 53rd street about 8:00 a.m. officers went there after getting 911 calls about a person screaming. there they found the woman with a stab wound to the stomach and burns to the back of her body. she was rushed to the hospital and is listed in extremely critical condition right now. detectives say it was all touched off by a family argument. a man was violently beaten at a north philadelphia gas station and it was all caught on camera. the attack happened november 1st at the speed way in the 500 block of west lehigh avenue. that victim was attacked by two other men as you can see. now during the fight one of the suspects pulled a baseball bat and knocked the victim to the ground. he suffered injuries to the face and head. he was placed in a medically induced coma at temple university hospital. >> more fallout tonight after allegations of sexual misconduct against comedian louis c.k. and now a shocking turn, the comedian responded to the accusations directly

this afternoon. we get more now from abc's marci gonzalez from los angeles. >> reporter: comedian louis c.k. to you confirming the allegations of sexual misconduct against him are true. the star saying in a statement i have been remorseful of my actions and i've tried to learn from them and run from them. now i'm aware of the extent of the impact of my actions. the new york times broke the story reporting this comedy duo's account of meeting ck at a show in 2002, the women saying ck invited them to have a drink in his room. when they arrived he asked if he could expose himself in front of them. they said they thought it was a joke and laughed it ought. he proceeded to take it off get completely naked and touch himself. two other women sharing similar allegations a fifth alleging he engaged in a sexual act while on the phone with her. >> he was such a powerful figure and he loomed large and they felt shame around it. >> reporter: the comedian

if you have an infant younger than that, then you want to make sure that people around the baby are vaccinated. hand washing is also an additional way to prevent getting sick. also today a young boy in ohio has received a life changing gift. students and staff at a local college built him a mechanical hand. three-year-old cameron haas is full of energy. he was born without his right hand. it's called congenital amputation but it hasn't slowed him down or dampened his spirit. his grandmother is it is a studt at northwest state community college in ohio. she brought the idea of making a mechanical hand for cameron to the department of science technology engineering and mathematics. >> i still. kind of taken aback by it. it just seems like it's -- it doesn't -- it shouldn't be that easy but it is. >> it took about a month and several proto types to come up with the final version. then 18 hours on the 3-d

because it's getting even colder out there. let's head over to the "action news" weather center. how is this for timing? the coldest air mass of the season and the rothman ice rink is opening now, has opened, dillworth park. you got to bundle up if you're heading out there. if you look at the trees, you can see the trees kind of blowing a bit in the breeze. the winds are beginning to diminish. we have sustained winds today at about 20 miles an hour, gusts up to about 40 now sustained winds dropping generally about nine to 16 miles per hour. if you notice the streamline, the arrows out of the northwest, that's pulling down that cold air that used to be up in the arctic and this is the way it feels. the wind chill 26 in philadelphia, feels like 27 in pomona, 21 in lancaster and the wind chill currently in allentown all the way down to 20 degrees. so, satellite and radar showing that there are no clouds up ahead to kind of trap in the heat of the earth. so that what happens tonight, we get really good what's called radiational cooling. the heat 42 the sun that was

absorbed during the day, what little we got goes straight foot into the atmosphere. winds diminishing temperature dropping quickly. philadelphia 23 degrees, only 2 degrees shy of our record low. allentown likely a record low of 16. everywhere you see the asteric those are record lows. trenton 21, atlantic city airport 19, reading down to 17 and wilmington 21. philadelphia dropping town to 23. again it's not a record but it's very unusual to be this low this early in the season. the 30 year average for a 23-degree temperature is december 11th. last year we didn't drop this low until december 15th. two years ago, january 4th, so we're running about a month ahead of schedule. now, science geeks tomorrow morning, i know rick's listening to this, there's a rocket launch from wallops island the antaras.

in vietnam. >> there's new information about the fatal shooting of a toddler inside of a home in the city's olney section yesterday. investigators now say that little boy shot himself and police are revealing troubling details about the gun. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live at police headquarters with those details. vernon. >> reporter: good evening, rick. that child was killed with a handgun reported stolen in 2015 out in montgomery county. the question tonight, who brought it to his olney home? no one in that house is if he ising up, fessing up much less who left it in the basement where this poor doomed child could get to it. >> no one is coming forth with the truth. >> reporter: four adults were in and out of this olney home yesterday where 22-year-old kareem lawson shot himself to death. the mother, the father and uncle and a grandfather. but no one is telling police how a 9-millimeter handgun reported stolen in cheltenham

montgomery county in 2015 got there. >> at this point no one has come forward with the truth concerning that but investigators are working around the clock to ensure that truth is discovered. >> reporter: all signs the child found the gun in a basement closet and started handling it and then tragically struck. the child died of a bullet wound to the head. >> the two-year-old child soon to be three is gone and the adults who were responsible for that weapon being in the home are claiming no responsibility trying to avoid accountability for their actions. it's disheartening. >> reporter: police have recovered the weapon involved. it was missing for a time yesterday. but eventually the mother led them to a trash receptacle in backyard. >> not going to stop until the truth is discovered and found out. two heroes should not be able to assess deadly weapons. >> reporter: the police commissioner has a 10-year-old son, far older than ibn kareem

serious injuries. he was pronounced dead at the scene. a short time later the driver of the vehicle that struck him went to the police station to cooperate with the investigation. so far no charges have been filed. philadelphia police are searching to are three men who robbed a rite-aid pharmacy in south philadelphia. it was captured on the store's surveillance system. investigators say a man stood watch while the others forced an employee to open the door. the men then grabbed various medications and ran. if you have any information about the men, please call police. on capitol hill republicans are going full steam ahead with their sweeping tax reform legislation and today some of our local lawmakers weighed in. the house and senate have finalized their versions of the bill but they have just 16 days to get it passed. the centerpiece of both bills, tax cuts. but each chamber differs on how to get them done. below freezing right now and as we push forward into the friday evening hours, those feel-like temperatures stay in the 20's and it's really not until about 9, 10 o'clock that they start to pull back into the teens for center city and as you can see it kind of stays steady. 18, 19 degrees as we go through about 2 o'clock in the morning and that's because the wind will relax overtight tonight so not going to drive those wind chills into the single digits. however, you may start to feel your lips chap or your hands start to crack a little bit and it's all because of that bone dry air from canada, that arctic air has very little moisture in it so the atmosphere needs moisture and it starts to rob it from our bodies and that is because of those dewpoints being well into the single digits but again, we'll start to turn that around the second half of the weekend. satellite and radar some high clouds early on the day but as you note, those clouds basically fading offer of the satellite here so overnight tonight a lot of stars upstairs and with that that wind coming down, no harsh

wind chills late tonight but we'll see record low temperatures in allentown, possibly at 16, 17 reading, 20 in trenton, 21 in wilmington, 22 in dover. not a record for philadelphia but pretty close to it by about 2 degrees off, 23 is what we're expecting in the city. so, from the city in philadelphia, delaware county, all points down to the south there's a freeze warning overnight. why isn't there a freeze warning elsewhere, it's going to be just as cold. well, the growing season has already ended there, southern areas it hasn't been that low so far this year so by tomorrow morning everyone can say so long to that growing season. as we go through november 11th on veterans day a high temperature of 40 degrees, not as harsh because the winds will be lighter. temperatures still pretty chilly, upper 30's to around that 40-degrees so you still need to bundle up with high pressure nearby but again, at least we won't have that harsh wind near 40 miles an hour. then that high pulls to the east we're back to near 50 on sunday, morning sun giving way to increasing clouds in the

allegheny. one of the vehicles snapped a utility pole like a match stick. "action news" reporter bob brooks is live at temple university hospital. bob, the most important question here, how are the four police officers who were hurt? >> reporter: well, jim, happy to report those four officers are expected to be okay. but once you see this crash and the aftermath you realize we're lucky that we can report that tonight. now, also new tonight we spoke with an eyewitness who saw it all. let's take a listen. >> they crashed against each other and then it looked like "fast and the furious." the car kept spinning. >> reporter: that's sean a witness able to give a firsthand account to the violent crash between two philadelphia police suv's this morning. it happened just after 10 o'clock in kensington. >> i seen one cop car coming up the 2900 block of d street and one was coming up indiana avenue. >> reporter: a surveillance video from a corner store we see the moments just before the suv's
