allegheny. one of the vehicles snapped a utility pole like a match stick. "action news" reporter bob brooks is live at temple university hospital. bob, the most important question here, how are the four police officers who were hurt? >> reporter: well, jim, happy to report those four officers are expected to be okay. but once you see this crash and the aftermath you realize we're lucky that we can report that tonight. now, also new tonight we spoke with an eyewitness who saw it all. let's take a listen. >> they crashed against each other and then it looked like "fast and the furious." the car kept spinning. >> reporter: that's sean a witness able to give a firsthand account to the violent crash between two philadelphia police suv's this morning. it happened just after 10 o'clock in kensington. >> i seen one cop car coming up the 2900 block of d street and one was coming up indiana avenue. >> reporter: a surveillance video from a corner store we see the moments just before the suv's leave frame and collide.

you can see the impact even shakes the surveillance camera. it shows both were traveling in the right direction. two officers were in each suv. they would all be rushed to temple university hospital. he says the officers clearly needed help. >> i saw the officer jump out the cop car, his face was all bloody and everything. >> reporter: here we get a closeup look at the damage. you can see that telephone pole again split, wires are down. that home has a hole in it for now and the family family from inside has brought out belongings. they can't be in there. it's not safe. the officers were responding to a shooting suspect in this red honda civic. according to detectives that driver got into an argument with another driver at a stop near kensington and allegheny. he pulled out a gun and fired a shot and then took off and from chopper6 we would watch as the suspect, a 20-year-old man was captured near allegheny and c streets. police say the person the suspect fired at was uninjured and again, jim, tonight the good news is those four

officers are expected to be okay. for now reporting live at temple university hospital, bob brooks channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, bob. just as accuweather promised, we've been experiencing winter-like weather today with temperatures in the 30's. wind chills in the 20's thanks to some fierce winds. meteorologist cecily tynan has been tracking our cold snap and has the latest information from accuweather. cecily. >> jim, today was definitely a day to bundle up and if you're stepping outside tonight you definitely need the winter coat, the layers, the gloves, the hat. philadelphia right now the wind chill is 22 degrees. binghamton the wind chill currently 4 degrees, feels like the middle of winter. part of the reason why it's so harsh, the wind gusts today, we had a peak wind gust philadelphia 38 miles per hour. reading 35. trenton 39. millville, atlantic city wind gusts above 40 miles per hour. now, the winds are diminishing tonight but satellite and radar showing we have clear skies out there, so there are no clouds to kind of trap in the heat of the earth with the

diminishing wind, the clear skies and arctic high pressure building in we have a very cold night. in fact freeze warnings have been posted for all of our area that hasn't had a killing freeze yet. we haven't even had a frost in philadelphia. temperatures, though, dropping very close to the record low. philadelphia the record low 21 set back in 1961. looks like we'll be about 2 degrees within that. so, very close but allentown likely a record low of 16. trenton a record low 20. wilmington a record low 21, atlantic city airport likely a new record as well with a low all the way down to 19 degrees. it's going to be another very cold day tomorrow. but i am tracking a rebound in temperatures. also tracking our next chance of rain. i'll have all the details on that in the accuweather 7-day forecast. jim. >> thank you, cecily. as temperatures plunge this weekend, check in at 6abc.com for the latest forecasts and an updated listing of code blue alerts posted for your area.

>> ♪ we now know the name of the two-year-old boy police say accidentally shot and killed himself. the incident happened at the boy's home on west godfrey avenue in olney yesterday. family members identified the toddler as ibn kareem lawson. philadelphia police recovered the 9-millimeter handgun and now say the web upon was stolen. they don't yet know how the boy got his hands on the weapon or to whom it belonged. it will be up to the district attorney to determine what, if any, charges will be filed. police in radnor township have arrested a man from michigan who they say has been stalking a local teenager who is something of a youtube celebrity. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live at radnor police tonight. chad, what are the details here? >> reporter: yeah, jim, james is what you would call a social media darling and with that sort of celebrity can come possible stalkers. police here in radnor say it's fortunate this situation wasn't more tragic and they

credit niece for alerting his parents. the knock at the berwyn road house immediately had the mother of the teenager concerned. police say 30-year-old michael lee was at the front door. >> the subject identified himself as michael dombrowski to the mother and asked -- said he was a friend of his son. at that point in time the mother was a little startled, closed the door and the subject ran away. >> reporter: radnor lease say lieb had been in contact with the alleged victim before the incident through social media and told the 18-year-old he wanted to "hook up. the high school senior told his parents. >> started receiving unwanted and disturbing text messages. >> reporter: the alleged victim is james niece. he's very popular on social media. he has 30,000 twitter followers, 140,000 followers on instagram. >> everyone. >> reporter: in his youtube channel has 19,000 subscribers. police say neese's digital

popularity caught the attention of leib who drove from michigan much police say the initial encounter at the home was october 25th. leib allegedly returned on november 7th. he had been in contact with the family. >> the family's personal accounts started receiving e-mails saying we are going to -- i am going to take your son quote/unquote. police say they took over the teen's phone and when leib allegedly returned to the radnor home police arrested him without incident. investigators are calling it yet another cautionary tale. >> the more popular you become you have to take safety steps. >> reporter: and radnor police say leib has some troubling posts on twitter. they are now working with michigan authorities as well as the internet crimes against children task force here in delaware county to investigate leib further. live in radnor chad pradelli channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, chad. a second arrest has been made in the murder of a beloved community activist

winnie harris. the u.s. marshals fugitive task force caught 31-year-old isaiah reels in southwest philadelphia earlier this week. police say reels and 39-year-old nelson giddings shot harris after breaking into her home in powelton this past february. giddings was arrested last month. both men face numerous charges including murder robbery and burglary. tomorrow is officially veterans day but many communities have already gun to honor the veterans in their hometowns. >> ♪ the 58th annual veterans day parade was held this morning in media, delaware county. current and former service members marched to the applause of many grateful fellow americans. some parade goers say it is important to remember what the vets sacrifice has given to the rest of us. >> well, the vets, thank you for your service. >> thank you. >> for everybody else, please remember that -- >> thank you, thank you.

freedom is not free and we owe it to our vets for our freedom. >> marching bands and floats big features of the parade. it is said to be the largest veterans day parade in the entire area. temple university honored new york times executive director -- executive editor dean baquet on campus. he's the 17th recipient in the lew klein excellence in the media award. rebecca campbell president of the abc owned television stations and bernie prazenica president and general manager of this television station 6abc were on hand for the honors. meanwhile rebecca campbell returned to channel6 this afternoon to say both hello and goodbye. rebecca who was both program director and general manager of channel6 and a native of lancaster is moving to london to be disney's president of its business in europe, the middle east and africa.

>> we are looking live at the rothman ice skating rink now opened for business in dillworth park outside philadelphia city hall. but it didn't happen today without all kinds of fun and festivities. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes was right there >> we came for the opening of the winter garden. >> reporter: what do you think about the weather. >> it is extremely cold. we weren't expecting this. >> reporter: that time of year again, the rothman institute ice rink once again officially ushered in the holiday season with a jam packed day full of activities. our own karen rogers emceed the 6abc sponsored event which kicked off at noon with a salute to veterans. dillworth park was brought to life with a celebration of

america's garden capitol, a holiday inspired garden. >> it's very important to us. we get to live here in a free society. sometimes we complain about it but it's the best society in the world. we're blessed we're born in and it's our veterans that made it possible. >> reporter: a world two inspired skating routine from south pacific. they like the philly pops braved the cold weather and gave a stunning performance though tuba player brian brown says even his decades of experience couldn't prepare him for mother nature's frigid act today. >> it's really cold and it's like -- like blowing on a big ice cube the whole time. playing the tuba and since it's so cold there's no chance of playing in tune. >> reporter: second lieutenant faith broad corp who sang america the beautiful already had a plan in place to combat the cold. >> i'm going to go inside and i'm going to warm up as much as i can and then when the ceremony comes i'll just do my best. >> reporter: jeanette reyes

during the 9:30 half hour of "action news." and boy do we have a big college football game here on 6abc tomorrow night at 8 o'clock. third ranked notre dame and seventh ranked miami going head to head. hurricanes have the longest winning streak in the country. eagles quarterback carson wentz named nfl clutch performer of the week for the second time that three weeks after throwing four touchdowns against denver. wentz and the eagles fight for home field advantage in the playoffs. how about seattle's best defensive player richard sherman tears his achilles. he'll miss the rest of the season. this what the eagles d will have to face in seattle in three weeks. russell wilson looks like a video game against the cardinals. this is unreal. wow. what a play. seattle won. they're six and three chasing the eagles in the nfc. check out some future nfl players on high school huddle tonight after "action news" at 11:00 the game of the week lasalle against anyone and zero saint joe's prep.

tomorrow is veterans day. thanks to all the vets out there and military families for their service and this night before veterans day it's certainly clear and it's cold. sky6 taking a look at the center city skyline. not a cloud in the sky. we still have a bit of a wind. we had a wind gust 35 to 40 miles per hour today. now the sustained winds are dropping, still breezy, though, 17 miles an hour in philadelphia, 16 in allentown, 12 in beach haven and notice the streamline those arrows coming from the northwest, that's pulling down that cool air so the current wind chill this friday night take a look at these temperatures before you step out. help you to decide what to wear. a big coat. feels like 22 in philadelphia, feels like 29 in millville, 64 24 in wilmington and wind chill is 16 degrees in allentown right now. today's official high, this is deceiving, usually we hit it in the afternoon we hit it right after midnight. the high 52 degrees and then that front blasted through. temperatures dropped very quickly. 43 by 7 o'clock.

11 o'clock 39. 3 o'clock 38 and now the current air temperature down to 33 degrees. and temperatures will continue dropping tonight. satellite and radar showing part of the reason why we don't have any clouds to insulate the earth so we get good asian -- radiational cooling. anywhere you see the asterisk that's a record low. trenton a record of 20, allentown 16, wilmington 21, reading 17 degrees. philadelphia 2 degrees above the record low, 23 degrees but this is very early to get a 23-degree temperature in philadelphia. the average over the past 30 years, december 11th so we're running about a month ahead of average. december 15th the last time last year when we hit 23 degrees and we had to wait until january 4th the year before that to hit temperatures as low as 23. tomorrow for your veterans day, bright sunshine like today, the high another cool
