"action news", delaware valley's leading news program, with meteorologist, melissa magee, jeff skversky and walter perez. saturday night i'm walter perez in the news a frosty night ahead accu weather forecast coming up. new push to stop one of philadelphia's most enduring mystery how local boy scout leading effort to determine the identity of the so-called boy in the box. but the big story on "action news" is developing news a huge crash at route 202 in chester county that ended with one person killed, and then even tire stretch of the highway shut down. it happened just after 12:30 this afternoon along southbound lanes near south matlock street, the crash involve eight cars and a tractor trailer. it was hauling frozen turkeys. mccormack is live near the scene with the very latest, annie. >> reporter: and walter i want you to take a look behind me you can see crew is still remain out here hours later, cleaning up the devastation, from this fatal crash. one person was killed, and at least two people were taken to the hospital. it was a fiery crash on busy route 202 just after 12:30 saturday afternoon, a tractor trailer, carrying frozen turkies collided with at lee one vehicle, in total police say at least nine vehicles were involved in the crash. bystanders stuck in traffic recorded the images of the tractor trailer on fire, and late this evening, the coroner arrived on the scene, authorities confirmed that one person was killed. west goshen police confirmed that several people suffered minor to moderate injuries. for most of the day both lanes north and southbound remained closed at intersection of the south matlock and 202, hazmat teams initially responded

cleaning up the tractor trailer's fuel off the roadway and the cause, remains under investigation. at this hour you can see behind me again they are still working to remove the tractor trailer, from this scene. there are several roadways, around this intersection that are also affected by this. we're told that they could still be out here for two more hours. reporting live in west goshen township annie mccormack for channel six "action news". walter back to you. >> thank you. moving to the accu weather forecast it was a chilly day making way for a very cold night. meteorologist melissa magee is here with the first check of the accu weather forecast, melissa. >> yeah walter it was a cold start early this morning when we had record lows across portions of the delaware and lehigh valleys. this morning in philadelphia we dipped down to 23. close to the record of 21 setback in 1961 but new record low temperatures in allentown, trenton, wilmington and also atlantic city. allentown came in at 18

degrees this morning. twenty-one in trenton. twenty in wilmington. at the coast in ac coming in at 21 degrees this morning. not much rebound today. this evening, across much of new england and the northeast, that cold air is really gripping, this area, so it is 29 degrees in bangor maine, 35 in new york city, 37 in philadelphia out to the west in pittsburgh we are coming in at 31 degrees. factor in the wind, wind chills it feels like 33 in the city, 31 degrees in pittsburgh lower 30's there in washington d.c. sat right six with action radar showing you high pressure is dominating our region pulling down that cold air from canada but tomorrow, this ridge of high pressure moves further to the south and e, we will tap into a return flow which means temperatures will go a little better as we close out our weekend on sunday. looking at the evening planner , most spots tonight are actually going to be in the lower 30's, it will stay partly cloudy and pretty cold, we have got more details with the full and exclusive accu weather forecast, walter. >> thanks, melissa.

police in burlington county are investigating an accident that end with a woman killed. it happened overnight on the pemberton bypass. investigators say the victim is janet luna of browns mills and got out, walked out into on coming cars. she was struck by several vehicles. one of the driver suffered minor injuries but expected to be okay. police in philadelphia shot and wounded a man in grays ferry earlier this morning. it happened just before 2:00 a.m. along 1200 block of south 29th street. police were called to the home on reports of the man becoming irate because his tv and internet were not working. things escalated and officers say that is when the man came at them with the knife. they repeatedly told him to drop it but he refused but instead they say he lunged at an officer who grabbed his gun and then fired at the suspect. that 57 year-old suspect remains in critical condition at this hour. it is one of the highest profile unsolved mysteries in philadelphia history. the body of a little boy found in the box in 1957.

youngster's reese mains have never been identified. tonight the investigation is back underway courtesy of a local boy scout. "action news" reporter bob brooks, explains. >> reporter: ceremony started with a prayer, to remember, and honor, little boy found six decade ago, dead in a box. left on a side of susquehanna road. still to this day no one knows hoe is or exactly what happened but now no one will ever be able to forget it. thanks to this historic marker made possible by eagle scout nicholas kirschbaum of troop 522 in wilmington. >> his life was taken, and, that is just, should not happen like that. >> reporter: kirschbaum needed an eagle scout service project he could have pick anything but became familiar with the case of is what now known as america's unknown child, through his father, a former philadelphia cop. >> he talk to me about the idea for this project. i considered it. i looked into it, reading about the by him self. >> reporter: it was back in 1957, two philadelphia police officers responded to a call

of a body in a box. the case was never solved. kirschbaum hopes that the marker will somehow bring new lead into the 60 year-old case >> the small, small possibility, somebody could be walking by and maybe just seeing the sign they could possibly, in the back of their mind, oh, i remember something >> reporter: funding were made by the bdock society group of forensic experts that try to solve other cold cases. founder is bill fleischer, he thinks this could make major progress in the future through dna. >> with comparing against many suspected relatives. >> reporter: he vows his group will never stop working to try to find out who could commit such a disturbing crime. >> in my view, it wasn't beaten to death he was abused and neglect to the point where just a little flame went out. >> reporter: right through can see on the mark they are case is still opened, 60 years later. as it stands right now this case is longest active open investigation in the philadelphia police department reporting from fox chase, bob

brooks, channel six "action news". well to day is veterans day and several local communities are paying tribute to the men and women who served our country. the action cam was there at haven united methodist church where a dance was performed, for church members, who were once members of the u.s. military. those veterans and guests were invited to take part in today 's celebration. city of philadelphia also paid tribute to our nation's military men and women today in center city. mayor jim kenney was among those on hand to honor veterans to day's ceremony took place at the tomb of the unknown solder right there in washington square. >> ♪ >> and, in the city's fishtown section neighbors lined laurel street to pay tribute to those who for the for our country as well. today's parade pass by a memorial bearing names of the several young men from our area who lost their lives in battle. today marks 50th anniversary

al wam a senate candidate roy moore is battling back tonight against decade old allegations of sexual misconduct and providing alcohol to minors. washington post reports claims from four women that moore tried to date teenage girls when he was in his 30's, gave others beer, wine and had sexual contact with a 14 year-old. protesters greeted moore as he arrived at his first public appearance since the story broke but moore called it all a charade, coordinated effort by democrats, establishment

republicans, and others, trying to discredit his campaign. >> i have not been guilty of sexual misconduct with anyone. these allegations came only four and a half weeks before a general election on december 12th. why now? >> meanwhile the governor of alabama said today that she has no plans to push back dates of an upcoming special election. president donald trump is defending vladamire putin saying russian leader denied any election meddling in the u.s. presidential election, and mr. trump seems to be taking putin at his word. the pair met up during a conference in vietnam, president also dismissed unified assessment of america 's intelligence community that russia was behind calling it a democratic hit job and work of political hacks. however, trump's only current cia director said the agency still stands by its original conclusion. now, to a brand new holiday attraction that makes us philly proud.

the now closed jc pen ate king of prussia mall has been transferred into an art exhibition, today was grand opening of the art of word store. it remained opened until the end of year, daniel duffy, the artist creates these drawings using nothing but letters and numbers. he got his start by selling his prints in philly parks. there are so many things that make us proud to call delaware veil our home to see what else makes us philly proud go to six abc.com/proud. thousands of runners, put on their best hoods and knee socks for the rocky run, a race that races up art museum steps at 7:00 a.m. those taking part could take part in a 5k or 10k, money raised benefits special olympics in philadelphia.

looking at the center city sky line, it is dry, quiet, it is all about the numbers as we press forward here. our high today in philadelphia 40 degrees, that is 18 degrees below our typical daytime high , right now we are coming in at 33 in the city. thirty-two in allentown. over in lancaster right now 30 cape may 35. down in dover we are in the lower 30's. 29 degrees in millville. as we get in the date tomorrow looking at the day planner 6:00 o'clock in the morning it will feel like numbers will be at the freezing mark or slightly below that but as we get in the lunchtime hour and beyond, temperatures will rebound into the middle 40's, so some recovery, on the way, but still below where we should be for the month of november, and in fact, it was a chilly start this morning as we look at the near record low temperatures, we had today, in the city, and we came in at 23 e record of 21 setback in 1961 but the earliest time we had temperatures reach 25 degrees, or below was 1976.

so this is pretty impressive cold that we are dealing with so early in the season. satellite six with action radar showing we have a partly cloudy sky in the region we are staying dry, quiet. high pressure has been dominating our area. we will get wind coming from the northwesterly direction for the majority of the day that was bringing in that chill, but good news we didn't have as much, win, by the afternoon as we had yesterday and even earlier this morning. now by tomorrow the original high pressure starts to move further south ande and weep tap in the return flow meaning temperatures will rebound in the second half of our weekend the call for rest of tonight partly cloudy, cold, especially north and west, we will drop down to 21 in allentown. twenty-two in reading. twenty-four in lancaster. overnight low in philadelphia drops down to 30. twenty-nine in dover. twenty-seven in toms river. cape may coming in at 29. atlantic city coming in at 28. upper 20's as well in millville. here's set up for our sunday that ridge of high pressure that was over us just today
