wildlife photography award. what they want to do is spotlight conservation efforts and to tell us all about these pictures we have one of the creators of this awards, tom sullivan, "right this minute," via skype. welcome to the show. [ cheers and applause [ cheers and applause ] so tom, why an awards for this? >> in all honesty, often it's the animals who are portrayed as aggressive or being chased and we thought animals can make us laugh and if you laugh with the animal, you'll probably be a bit more conscious about the conservation of that animal and therefore quite possibly do a little bit more towards animal conservation. >> are people trying to get the photos or are they turning a fail into a win? >> i wouldn't want to spin it a fail into a win. you can't guess when an animal is going to be funny and so it's not a fail into a win. it's just right time, right place. >> do you know the story behind the giraffe that looks like it's eating i guess this is a cessna plane that's flying over? >> i think that shot was in

tanzan tanzania. lot of the airstrips into the wildlife parks are tiny, short airstrips and normally lined by animals. looks like they're waiting to welcome you, i think, i imagine the photographer is watching this giraffe and the plane came in and the timing then was what was important. >> is the competition just creating awareness for conservati conservation? >> initially it was just to raise awareness but we tied up with the born free foundation, which is an amazing charity and the money we raise through this competition a lot of it goes towards born free and they have a project designing specifically based on the money raised from comedy wildlife. >> do you have a favorite? >> i love the owl, the three owls with the one falling off the stick is to me that captures many, many moments of my own life. >> yes. well thank you so much for staying up where you are and talking to us. we really appreciate it, and next time, drink a little wine before. we won't know.

>> i did. >> bye tom, thank you. >> keep news mind next year when do you it again, okay? >> we will. thank you very much for having me. >> bye. >> thank you. panic and chaos in india. you can see a bunch of people on the bottom of this 20 foot well near a village. the story behind what's going on here, little 3-year-old nania was there with her mother, doing the laundry. she slipped and plummeted 20 feet into the well. mom raised the alarm and two local male villagers jumped into that well to help. >> how many people we got down there? >> the two guys and the young 3-year-old girl. they held her above the water until help could arrive. it arrived in the form of this rope with a bucket on the bottom. >> did they have to tread water that entire time? >> they did by the looks of it, and they've got this bucket, they place her inside the bucket and other villagers use that to pull her up to the top.

you've really got to give credit to the two guys without thinking about it, jumped into the well and did what needed to be done. the relief on mom's face by the looks of it is palpable. she doesn't look too bad, no worse for wear for her little adventure. >> what about the guys that jumped in to help, are they still down to it? >> as the video continues, i think this is one of the village heroes getting the credit he deserves from the people around him, but it takes a village to save a child and in this case that's what happened. credit to those two guys, heroes right there. >> oh yeah. a little family fun, frazier island. the sand dunes, baby, what could go wrong? let's surf? >> oh a mouthful -- >> oh, that's major, like a world record. it was incredible. >> he got sand in his brain now. >> it's fine. he can just knock it out his socks. ♪

>> stand by everybody for the "rtm" ipad mini give away. you may remember these two faces, we had them on the show recently, that is reina and her husband freddy, on a bus in puebla, mexico. she's about to have a very special moment. last year she was diagnosed with stage three going on four breast cancer. she had all kinds of rounds of chemotherapy and a number of surgeries, including one to remove her ovaries, she was high risk of developing ovarian cancer. this video actually was just posted, but it was filmed back in july. she is about to see her dad for the first time in more than 20 years. >> wow. >> i guess getting that kind of diagnosis makes you really think about the conversations you haven't been having. >> this woman had an emotional year. my goodness. >> her dad and mom separated many years ago. he decided to go back to mexico and that's why the relationship

hasn't been particularly present, but because of her diagnosis, he decided it was important to see her dad, give him a hug and share conversations. >> i'm going to cry. >> and it turns out her dad was also facing a huge medical issue. she is timely able to walk through those doors and give her dad that hug that's been so many years in the making. >> oh, wow, look at that hug. >> say something. somebody say something. >> it's interesting to see her face, too, because she's an adult but you can see she turns into a kid when she sees her dad again. >> the amount of emotion involved in this video is insane. >> this hug lasts for such a long time, there's a big old knot in my throat right now. >> and like i said in the last video, reina and her husband are going to be renewing their vows july of next year. they're exploring a

but bob and friedrich from exploring the unbeaten path youtube channel decided to go back to fukushima. they're exploring a supermarket that seems to have been completely untouched. >> why aren't they wearing protective gear in. >> they have geiger counters and going into places where they feel safe. lot of deterioration has set in. you can see what looks to be bird droppings all over the computers and cash registers. they're running into cobwebs. >> who put the stuff on the floor? you said everything was relatively untouched. did the rodents get frisky? >> this is a magnitude 9.0 earthquake. it shook fukushima, as did the tsunami, and yes, looks like the rodents got to every morsel of fresh food. all of the meat coolers cleaned out. >> did they talk about the smell or maybe it dissipated, it was six years ago.
