"action news" delaware valley's leading news program. with rick williams, sara bloomquist, and meteorologist, david murphy. ♪ ♪ santa and mrs. claus just arrived at the top of the steps at the philadelphia museum of art. their arrival marks the official beginning of the holiday season. good afternoon rick will be along in a moment and sara is off. i'm matt o'donnell and the big story is the 98th annual 6 abc dunkin donuts thanksgiving day parade. a ribbon cutting started things off at eakins oval. it was a thrill every second from large helium filled

balloons like clifford the big red dog. and big name singers like tye turndon. and we toe tapped into the season on the parkway. another successful parade is in the books with so many people making it happen. rick williams and cecily tynan are inching to join their thanksgiving feast but first they promised to hang around a few more moments to wrap up the big parade. once again rick and cecily you and your fine crew kicked it out of the park. >> it's a team effort but great. always great. >> happy thanksgiving. >> it was a beautiful morning and we had plenty of coffee. >> a lot of coffee. >> so many joining us and it started with the pennsbury band kicking off the parade. take a look -- ♪ ♪

just one of many marching bands that glided up the parkway this morning. in fronts of the art mousse each. there was so much entertainment and the weather was just right. should we give you credit cecily? >> i'm take the credit. we had a lot of special guests, mini and mickey mouse in a horse drawn carriage being treated like royalty. >> all the kids were happy to see them. why not coming from florida, mickey and minnie joining us. >> thing one and thing two, dr. seuss cab teres. see those pajamas i will be in them a half hour from now. >> the coffee is wearing off when had boy scouts walking the entire parkway important they were collecting cans for the 6 abc food drive. and it's really a good time to

remember our friends in need to make sure we get food to everyone across the region. for all that we have there are those that have less. we are thankful for the boy scouts and the 6 abc family float showing our colleagues as they arrived on the parkway this morning too. saw monica and her boys right there. brian taff and his twin sons. and also ali gorman. christie and nydia. nice to see everyone there. after 98 years, i think we got it right. >> we'll find out. >> we certainly had a great time and had wonderful guests in the booth. >> we have to mention lara spensioner and justin gareveny. and i had a crush on him. now a crush on you rick.

donuts thanksgiving day parade made its way up the parkway. >> one of our favorite days of the year. >> our third year together and talking about how it's a great tradition to be doing every year. >> singer, justin gareveny waived from his float and 17 marching bands and 18 balloons. the handlers running in circle to excite the crowd. >> it's festive and wonderful and everybody is in a good mood. i'm actually upset that i didn't do this sooner. >> crews were out in inflation station at 20th and market. filling balloons with cold air or helium. clifford the big red doing and the mouse. they were up and ready to go. they say it's worth it. >> our organization helps homeless dogs and cats in

it's t was a brisk and chilly start feeling like the holiday season. a live look at the commodore barry bridge. >> we are expecting sunny conditions the rest are of the way and a few clouds are starting to inch in philadelphia. and kind of receding toward the coast and right now temperatures are still chilly. we told you it could stay cool, still at 39 degrees at the airport in philadelphia and 38 in trenton and 38 in allentown and reading and lancaster. and 38 in millville. and 36 degrees in cape may new jersey. and not much wind and sun but need a coat. as we go through the ref of the afternoon. probably up to 45. i'm expecting a high at 46 degrees at 3:00. 44 by 4:00. sun goes down and we stay mainly clear tonight and the numbers do drop. by 8:00, 37 degrees and by 10:00, 35 degrees.

by starting their shopping. the action cam was at the kmart in may fair this morning. they begin the deals today the day before black friday and then head home for their turkey dinners. we'll hear more about this prethanksgiving meal shopping rush in a live report at 12:30. a live picture from dillworth park looking at the christmas village, the popular tradition opened at 9:00 this morning and plus you have the ice rink too. plenty of restaurants and shops and a merry go round and this is the 10th year for the traditional german market. and enjoying the holiday thousands of miles from home. we sit down for a traditional thanksgiving meal. and getting the head start burning off the carbs and calories. while the turkey bakes in the oven. david murphy talked about the

a life is tragically lost in philadelphia in a house fire. the fire was on the 5300 block of delancy street. firefighters contained the flames to inside of the home and

one person was killed in the fire. investigators continue to search for what caused a fire at a senior citizen community in chester county. they found the the final two bodies missing yesterday. it was found in the south wing where the two other fatal victims were located on tuesday. the five-alarm fire destroyed the facility one week ago. new claims of sexual misconduct are hitting capitol hill. congressman on both sides, joe barton of texas is facing accusations of inappropriate behavior. an unidentified woman said he would report her if she went to police. barton says the graphic pictures were sent to other women he pursued while separated from his

wife. >> and john conyers the longest serving member of the house is accused of sexual misconduct by two women. he reach aid settlement by a former employee. and president trump tweeted, happy thanksgiving your country is starting to do really well and mentioned the low unemployment rate and how the stock market continues to hit record highs and reiterated his hope to build a wall along the border with mexico and promised to take care of the nation's veterans. and troops serving in korea had a traditional meal with turkey and stuffing. and camp humphrey is 60 miles from north korea. coming up at noon, tracking where the turkey on your table came from. in our art of aging we'll take you to a local farm providing the thanksgiving center piece

the thinning out of the number of casinos in atlantic city seem to have led the profits for the remaining house. they went up 20% from last year. the figures from the new jersey gaming enforcement show that the seven casinos had a gross operating profit of $252 million. the borgata posted a loss but only less than half a percent. in health check researchers

old. >> my grandmother purchased five turkey for my dad and ducks for his sister and the ducks died but the turkeys survived. >> they went into business together and it's very much a family affair. >> my dad and mother had eight children and all involved in the operation. >> and david like his father started to raise turkeys when he was a boy. i went to work with my dad and i was 18 years old and a productive worker. >> and david's sister-in-law, nephew and his wife work on the farm. >> following in my grandfather's footsteps it was what i wanted to do. >> david father's fred put his birds up against the championship breeders in competitions in the 1950s. >> my dad won the grand champion each and every year. and the national turkey federation asked him to supply two turkeys to the white house.

rothman ice rink at dillworth park opened for business. they were probably at the parade and now enjoying ice skating and the christmas village that opened at 9:00 this morning. it was a chilly start. this is the 98th annual ms run in delaware. senator tom carpenter was among the 3 thousand people that took part in the 5-k run. raising money for multiple sclerosis. >> david murphy is joining us. feeling like november today. >> and still chilly tomorrow morning for early shoppers. for now though, stormtracker 6 live double scan showing us we are dry and as we look outside lots of sunshine pouring down out of center city.

a nice sunny morning and cool certainly and the sun certainly helps and you see how the camera is rock solid and not seeing wind and not expecting much wind as we go through the rest of the afternoon. the temperature currently is 39 degrees in philadelphia. slowly inching up to the low 40s in the region. winds out of the northwest and again not all that strong. only 8 miles per hour. temperatures across the region. 38 in allentown and reading and lancaster. 39 if philadelphia and lower 40s in wilmington and 39 in dover and 38 in millville and the airport in atlantic city. a slow climb but we are underway. cloud cover is sweeping down the coast but probably not staying there all that long or developing thickly. and this stuff off to the west looks like it will have a hard time getting of the mountains to the west. we are expecting mainly sunny skies. in the lehigh valley lots of sun

and not much wind. but chilly. a high of 44 degrees. down the shore a cool afternoon ahead. high only getting to 45. and mostly sunny skies and chilly actually a lot milder in the water than in the air. and in philadelphia lots of sun and chilly, 46 degrees and high clouds are possible as we go through the rest of the afternoon. generally staying bright overall. winds from the northwest averaging 6 to 12 miles per hour. and i think the 12 is the out lier, most of the time you have fairly light winds. and a few clouds developing overnight and stars are still out but cold but the winds continue to slacken. 34 is the overnight low in philadelphia and 29 in some suburbs and this is what to expect at dawn if you happen to be among those getting up early and trying to get the deals on black friday. high pressure is in control for black friday though, we are looking at sunny skies once again and once we get past that startup in the 30s the high and the warm front and cold front

combination it turns it's high to the south and bumps us up to 54 in the afternoon and 58 degrees and clouds increase through the day on saturday. and a chance of a late day or evening shower or sprinkle. tomorrow morning bring the coat especially if you are camping out for a while. not all that windy by 10:00, 34 and we bounce up faster. 53 by 1:00 and by 4:00, 53 that is coming down from the high of 54 even as late as 7:00. you hold on to the low 40s. your exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast today's high a chilly 46 lots of sun and not much wind and definitely cool enough for coats and that is at 3:00. we are back in the 30s this evening. friday starting out in the 30s and sunny and milder in the afternoon and high of 54. sun giving way to gathering clouds and late day or night

time sprinkle or shower and a front gets through and on sunday it's brisk and cooler and look for winds gusting up to 31 miles per hour. and the 1:00 eagles game is brisk and chilly. bundle up for that one. and a passing snow shower and flurry in the poconos but i think the rest of us are likely dry on sunday. monday night and bright getting up to 50 and the latest chill down is not that chilly and doesn't last that long as tuesday and wednesday we get close to 60 forever a high and i think the same thing is in store for thursday. >> nice and warm. >> mild. >> this year officially pardoned turkeys there on your screen they arrived at their new home. globleer's rest is the home for the turkeys. wish bone and drum stick join tater and tot from last year.
